He that feareth the Lord will do good, and he that hath the knowledge of the law shall obtain her.
Sir 15:1
He who fears the Lord will do this. He who has possession of the law will obtain her.
2Sir 15:22καὶ ὑπαντήσεται αὐτῷ ὡς μήτηρ καὶ ὡς γυνὴ παρθενίας προσδέξεται αὐτόνSir 15:2
And as a mother shall she meet him, and receive him as a wife married of a virgin.
Sir 15:2
She will meet him like a mother, and receive him like a wife married in her virginity.
3Sir 15:33ψωμιεῖ αὐτὸν ἄρτον συνέσεως καὶ ὕδωρ σοφίας ποτίσει αὐτόνSir 15:3
With the bread of understanding shall she feed him, and give him the water of wisdom to drink.

4Sir 15:44στηριχθήσεται ἐπ’ αὐτὴν καὶ οὐ μὴ κλιθῇ καὶ ἐπ’ αὐτῆς ἐφέξει καὶ οὐ μὴ καταισχυνθῇSir 15:4
He shall be stayed upon her, and shall not be moved; and shall rely upon her, and shall not be confounded.

He will be stayed upon her, and will not be moved. He will rely upon her, and will not be confounded.
5Sir 15:55καὶ ὑψώσει αὐτὸν παρὰ τοὺς πλησίον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν μέσῳ ἐκκλησίας ἀνοίξει τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦSir 15:5
She shall exalt him above his neighbours, and in the midst of the congregation shall she open his mouth.

6Sir 15:66εὐφροσύνην καὶ στέφανον ἀγαλλιάματος εὑρήσει καὶ ὄνομα αἰῶνος κατακληρονομήσειSir 15:6
He shall find joy and a crown of gladness, and she shall cause him to inherit an everlasting name.
Sir 15:6
He will inherit joy, a crown of gladness, and an everlasting name.
7Sir 15:77οὐ μὴ καταλήμψονται αὐτὴν ἄνθρωποι ἀσύνετοι καὶ ἄνδρες ἁμαρτωλοὶ οὐ μὴ ἴδωσιν αὐτήνSir 15:7
But foolish men shall not attain unto her, and sinners shall not see her.

8Sir 15:88μακράν ἐστιν ὑπερηφανίας καὶ ἄνδρες ψεῦσται οὐ μὴ μνησθήσονται αὐτῆςSir 15:8
For she is far from pride, and men that are liars cannot remember her.

9Sir 15:99οὐχ ὡραῖος αἶνος ἐν στόματι ἁμαρτωλοῦ ὅτι οὐ παρὰ κυρίου ἀπεστάληSir 15:9
Praise is not seemly in the mouth of a sinner, for it was not sent him of the Lord.

10Sir 15:1010ἐν γὰρ σοφίᾳ ῥηθήσεται αἶνος καὶ ὁ κύριος εὐοδώσει αὐτόνSir 15:10
For praise shall be uttered in wisdom, and the Lord will prosper it.

11Sir 15:1111μὴ εἴπῃς ὅτι διὰ κύριον ἀπέστην ἃ γὰρ ἐμίσησεν οὐ ποιήσειSir 15:11
Say not thou, It is through the Lord that I fell away: for thou oughtest not to do the things that he hateth.
Sir 15:11
Don’t say, “It is through the Lord that I fell away;” for you shall not do the things that he hates.
12Sir 15:1212μὴ εἴπῃς ὅτι αὐτός με ἐπλάνησεν οὐ γὰρ χρείαν ἔχει ἀνδρὸς ἁμαρτωλοῦSir 15:12
Say not thou, He hath caused me to err: for he hath no need of the sinful man.
Sir 15:12
Don’t say, “It is he that caused me to err;” for he has no need of a sinful man.
13Sir 15:1313πᾶν βδέλυγμα ἐμίσησεν ὁ κύριος καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἀγαπητὸν τοῖς φοβουμένοις αὐτόνSir 15:13
The Lord hateth all abomination; and they that fear God love it not.
Sir 15:13
The Lord hates every abomination; and those who fear him don’t love them.
14Sir 15:1414αὐτὸς ἐξ ἀρχῆς ἐποίησεν ἄνθρωπον καὶ ἀφῆκεν αὐτὸν ἐν χειρὶ διαβουλίου αὐτοῦSir 15:14
He himself made man from the beginning, and left him in the hand of his counsel;

15Sir 15:1515ἐὰν θέλῃς συντηρήσεις ἐντολὰς καὶ πίστιν ποιῆσαι εὐδοκίαςSir 15:15
If thou wilt, to keep the commandments, and to perform acceptable faithfulness.

If you choose, you can keep the commandments. To be faithful is a matter of your choice.
16Sir 15:1616παρέθηκέν σοι πῦρ καὶ ὕδωρ οὗ ἐὰν θέλῃς ἐκτενεῖς τὴν χεῖρά σουSir 15:16
He hath set fire and water before thee: stretch forth thy hand unto whether thou wilt.
Sir 15:16
He has set fire and water before you. You will stretch forth your hand to whichever you desire.
17Sir 15:1717ἔναντι ἀνθρώπων ἡ ζωὴ καὶ ὁ θάνατος καὶ ὃ ἐὰν εὐδοκήσῃ δοθήσεται αὐτῷSir 15:17
Before man is life and death; and whether him liketh shall be given him.
Sir 15:17
Before man is life and death. Whichever he likes, it will be given to him.
18Sir 15:1818ὅτι πολλὴ ἡ σοφία τοῦ κυρίου ἰσχυρὸς ἐν δυναστείᾳ καὶ βλέπων τὰ πάνταSir 15:18
For the wisdom of the Lord is great, and he is mighty in power, and beholdeth all things:

19Sir 15:1919καὶ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τοὺς φοβουμένους αὐτόν καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπιγνώσεται πᾶν ἔργον ἀνθρώπουSir 15:19
And his eyes are upon them that fear him, and he knoweth every work of man.
Sir 15:19
His eyes are upon those who fear him. He knows every act of man.
20Sir 15:2020οὐκ ἐνετείλατο οὐδενὶ ἀσεβεῖν καὶ οὐκ ἔδωκεν ἄνεσιν οὐδενὶ ἁμαρτάνεινSir 15:20
He hath commanded no man to do wickedly, neither hath he given any man licence to sin.
Sir 15:20
He has not commanded any man to be ungodly. He has not given any man license to sin.
