ψαλμὸς τῷ Δαυιδ εἰς ἀνάμνησιν περὶ σαββάτου
Ps 38:1
A Psalm of David for remembrance concerning the Sabbath-day. O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath, neither chasten me in thine anger.

2Ps 38:12κύριε μὴ τῷ θυμῷ σου ἐλέγξῃς με μηδὲ τῇ ὀργῇ σου παιδεύσῃς με2
Ps 38:1
Yahweh, don’t rebuke me in your wrath,
neither chasten me in your hot displeasure.
Ps 38:2Ps 38:2יְֽהוָ֗ה אַל־בְּקֶצְפְּךָ֥ תוֹכִיחֵ֑נִי וּֽבַחֲמָתְךָ֥ תְיַסְּרֵֽנִי׃Ps 38:1
Yahweh, don’t rebuke me in your wrath,
neither chasten me in your hot displeasure.
3Ps 38:23ὅτι τὰ βέλη σου ἐνεπάγησάν μοι καὶ ἐπεστήρισας ἐπ’ ἐμὲ τὴν χεῖρά σουPs 38:2
For thy weapons are fixed in me, and thou hast pressed thy hand heavily upon me.
Ps 38:2
For your arrows have pierced me,
your hand presses hard on me.
Ps 38:3Ps 38:3כִּֽי־חִ֭צֶּיךָ נִ֣חֲתוּ בִ֑י וַתִּנְחַ֖ת עָלַ֣י יָדֶֽךָ׃Ps 38:2
For your arrows have pierced me,
your hand presses hard on me.
4Ps 38:34οὐκ ἔστιν ἴασις ἐν τῇ σαρκί μου ἀπὸ προσώπου τῆς ὀργῆς σου οὐκ ἔστιν εἰρήνη τοῖς ὀστέοις μου ἀπὸ προσώπου τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν μουPs 38:3
For there is no health in my flesh because of thine anger; there is no peace to my bones because of my sins.
Ps 38:3
There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation,
neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin.
Ps 38:4Ps 38:4אֵין־מְתֹ֣ם בִּ֭בְשָׂרִי מִפְּנֵ֣י זַעְמֶ֑ךָ אֵין־שָׁל֥וֹם בַּ֝עֲצָמַ֗י מִפְּנֵ֥י חַטָּאתִֽי׃Ps 38:3
There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation,
neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin.
5Ps 38:45ὅτι αἱ ἀνομίαι μου ὑπερῆραν τὴν κεφαλήν μου ὡσεὶ φορτίον βαρὺ ἐβαρύνθησαν ἐπ’ ἐμέPs 38:4
For my transgressions have gone over mine head: they have pressed heavily upon me like a weighty burden.
Ps 38:4
For my iniquities have gone over my head.
As a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.
Ps 38:5Ps 38:5כִּ֣י עֲ֭וֹנֹתַי עָבְר֣וּ רֹאשִׁ֑י כְּמַשָּׂ֥א כָ֝בֵ֗ד יִכְבְּד֥וּ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃Ps 38:4
For my iniquities have gone over my head.
As a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.
6Ps 38:56προσώζεσαν καὶ ἐσάπησαν οἱ μώλωπές μου ἀπὸ προσώπου τῆς ἀφροσύνης μουPs 38:5
My bruises have become noisome and corrupt, because of my foolishness.
Ps 38:5
My wounds are loathsome and corrupt,
because of my foolishness.
Ps 38:6Ps 38:6הִבְאִ֣ישׁוּ נָ֭מַקּוּ חַבּוּרֹתָ֑י מִ֝פְּנֵ֗י אִוַּלְתִּֽי׃Ps 38:5
My wounds are loathsome and corrupt,
because of my foolishness.
7Ps 38:67ἐταλαιπώρησα καὶ κατεκάμφθην ἕως τέλους ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν σκυθρωπάζων ἐπορευόμηνPs 38:6
I have been wretched and bowed down continually: I went with a mourning countenance all the day.
Ps 38:6
I am pained and bowed down greatly.
I go mourning all day long.
Ps 38:7Ps 38:7נַעֲוֵ֣יתִי שַׁחֹ֣תִי עַד־מְאֹ֑ד כָּל־הַ֝יּ֗וֹם קֹדֵ֥ר הִלָּֽכְתִּי׃Ps 38:6
I am pained and bowed down greatly.
I go mourning all day long.
8Ps 38:78ὅτι αἱ ψύαι μου ἐπλήσθησαν ἐμπαιγμῶν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἴασις ἐν τῇ σαρκί μουPs 38:7
For my soul is filled with mockings; and there is no health in my flesh.
Ps 38:7
For my waist is filled with burning.
There is no soundness in my flesh.
Ps 38:8Ps 38:8כִּֽי־כְ֭סָלַי מָלְא֣וּ נִקְלֶ֑ה וְאֵ֥ין מְ֝תֹ֗ם בִּבְשָׂרִֽי׃Ps 38:7
For my waist is filled with burning.
There is no soundness in my flesh.
9Ps 38:89ἐκακώθην καὶ ἐταπεινώθην ἕως σφόδρα ὠρυόμην ἀπὸ στεναγμοῦ τῆς καρδίας μουPs 38:8
I have been afflicted and brought down exceedingly: I have roared for the groaning of my heart.
Ps 38:8
I am faint and severely bruised.
I have groaned by reason of the anguish of my heart.
Ps 38:9Ps 38:9נְפוּג֣וֹתִי וְנִדְכֵּ֣יתִי עַד־מְאֹ֑ד שָׁ֝אַ֗גְתִּי מִֽנַּהֲמַ֥ת לִבִּֽי׃Ps 38:8
I am faint and severely bruised.
I have groaned by reason of the anguish of my heart.
10Ps 38:910κύριε ἐναντίον σου πᾶσα ἡ ἐπιθυμία μου καὶ ὁ στεναγμός μου ἀπὸ σοῦ οὐκ ἐκρύβηPs 38:9
But all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hidden from thee.
Ps 38:9
Lord, all my desire is before you.
My groaning is not hidden from you.
Ps 38:10Ps 38:10אֲ‍ֽדֹנָי נֶגְדְּךָ֥ כָל־תַּאֲוָתִ֑י וְ֝אַנְחָתִ֗י מִמְּךָ֥ לֹא־נִסְתָּֽרָה׃Ps 38:9
Lord, all my desire is before you.
My groaning is not hidden from you.
11Ps 38:1011ἡ καρδία μου ἐταράχθη ἐγκατέλιπέν με ἡ ἰσχύς μου καὶ τὸ φῶς τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν μου καὶ αὐτὸ οὐκ ἔστιν μετ’ ἐμοῦPs 38:10
My heart is troubled, my strength has failed me; and the light of mine eyes is not with me.
Ps 38:10
My heart throbs.
My strength fails me.
As for the light of my eyes, it has also left me.
Ps 38:11Ps 38:11לִבִּ֣י סְ֭חַרְחַר עֲזָבַ֣נִי כֹחִ֑י וְֽאוֹר־עֵינַ֥י גַּם־הֵ֝֗ם אֵ֣ין אִתִּֽי׃Ps 38:10
My heart throbs.
My strength fails me.
As for the light of my eyes, it has also left me.
12Ps 38:1112οἱ φίλοι μου καὶ οἱ πλησίον μου ἐξ ἐναντίας μου ἤγγισαν καὶ ἔστησαν καὶ οἱ ἔγγιστά μου ἀπὸ μακρόθεν ἔστησανPs 38:11
My friends and my neighbours drew near before me, and stood still; and my nearest of kin stood afar off.
Ps 38:11
My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague.
My kinsmen stand far away.
Ps 38:12Ps 38:12אֹֽהֲבַ֨י ׀ וְרֵעַ֗י מִנֶּ֣גֶד נִגְעִ֣י יַעֲמֹ֑דוּ וּ֝קְרוֹבַ֗י מֵרָחֹ֥ק עָמָֽדוּ׃Ps 38:11
My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague.
My kinsmen stand far away.
13Ps 38:1213καὶ ἐξεβιάσαντο οἱ ζητοῦντες τὴν ψυχήν μου καὶ οἱ ζητοῦντες τὰ κακά μοι ἐλάλησαν ματαιότητας καὶ δολιότητας ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν ἐμελέτησανPs 38:12
While they pressed hard upon me that sought my soul: and they that sought my hurt spoke vanities, and devised deceits all the day.
Ps 38:12
They also who seek after my life lay snares.
Those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things,
and meditate deceits all day long.
Ps 38:13Ps 38:13וַיְנַקְשׁ֤וּ ׀ מְבַקְשֵׁ֬י נַפְשִׁ֗י וְדֹרְשֵׁ֣י רָ֭עָתִי דִּבְּר֣וּ הַוּ֑וֹת וּ֝מִרְמ֗וֹת כָּל־הַיּ֥וֹם יֶהְגּֽוּ׃Ps 38:12
They also who seek after my life lay snares.

and meditate deceits all day long.
14Ps 38:1314ἐγὼ δὲ ὡσεὶ κωφὸς οὐκ ἤκουον καὶ ὡσεὶ ἄλαλος οὐκ ἀνοίγων τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦPs 38:13
But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and was as a dumb man not opening his mouth.
Ps 38:13
But I, as a deaf man, don’t hear.
I am as a mute man who doesn’t open his mouth.
Ps 38:14Ps 38:14וַאֲנִ֣י כְ֭חֵרֵשׁ לֹ֣א אֶשְׁמָ֑ע וּ֝כְאִלֵּ֗ם לֹ֣א יִפְתַּח־פִּֽיו׃Ps 38:13
But I, as a deaf man, don’t hear.
I am as a mute man who doesn’t open his mouth.
15Ps 38:1415καὶ ἐγενόμην ὡσεὶ ἄνθρωπος οὐκ ἀκούων καὶ οὐκ ἔχων ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτοῦ ἐλεγμούςPs 38:14
And I was as a man that hears not, and who has no reproofs in his mouth.
Ps 38:14
Yes, I am as a man who doesn’t hear,
in whose mouth are no reproofs.
Ps 38:15Ps 38:15וָאֱהִ֗י כְּ֭אִישׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־שֹׁמֵ֑עַ וְאֵ֥ין בְּ֝פִ֗יו תּוֹכָחֽוֹת׃Ps 38:14
Yes, I am as a man who doesn’t hear,
in whose mouth are no reproofs.
16Ps 38:1516ὅτι ἐπὶ σοί κύριε ἤλπισα σὺ εἰσακούσῃ κύριε ὁ θεός μουPs 38:15
For I hoped in thee, O Lord: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

For in you, Yahweh, do I hope.
You will answer, Lord my God.
Ps 38:16Ps 38:16כִּֽי־לְךָ֣ יְהוָ֣ה הוֹחָ֑לְתִּי אַתָּ֥ה תַ֝עֲנֶ֗ה אֲדֹנָ֥י אֱלֹהָֽי׃Ps 38:15
For in you, Yahweh, do I hope.
You will answer, Lord my God.
17Ps 38:1617ὅτι εἶπα μήποτε ἐπιχαρῶσίν μοι οἱ ἐχθροί μου καὶ ἐν τῷ σαλευθῆναι πόδας μου ἐπ’ ἐμὲ ἐμεγαλορρημόνησανPs 38:16
For I said, Lest mine enemies rejoice against me: for when my feet were moved, they spoke boastingly against me.
Ps 38:16
For I said, “Don’t let them gloat over me,
or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips.”
Ps 38:17Ps 38:17כִּֽי־אָ֭מַרְתִּי פֶּן־יִשְׂמְחוּ־לִ֑י בְּמ֥וֹט רַ֝גְלִ֗י עָלַ֥י הִגְדִּֽילוּ׃Ps 38:16
For I said, “Don’t let them gloat over me,
or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips.”
18Ps 38:1718ὅτι ἐγὼ εἰς μάστιγας ἕτοιμος καὶ ἡ ἀλγηδών μου ἐνώπιόν μου διὰ παντόςPs 38:17
For I am ready for plagues, and my grief is continually before me.
Ps 38:17
For I am ready to fall.
My pain is continually before me.
Ps 38:18Ps 38:18כִּֽי־אֲ֭נִי לְצֶ֣לַע נָכ֑וֹן וּמַכְאוֹבִ֖י נֶגְדִּ֣י תָמִֽיד׃Ps 38:17
For I am ready to fall.
My pain is continually before me.
19Ps 38:1819ὅτι τὴν ἀνομίαν μου ἐγὼ ἀναγγελῶ καὶ μεριμνήσω ὑπὲρ τῆς ἁμαρτίας μουPs 38:18
For I will declare mine iniquity, and be distressed for my sin.
Ps 38:18
For I will declare my iniquity.

Ps 38:19Ps 38:19כִּֽי־עֲוֹנִ֥י אַגִּ֑יד אֶ֝דְאַ֗ג מֵֽחַטָּאתִֽי׃Ps 38:18

20Ps 38:1920οἱ δὲ ἐχθροί μου ζῶσιν καὶ κεκραταίωνται ὑπὲρ ἐμέ καὶ ἐπληθύνθησαν οἱ μισοῦντές με ἀδίκωςPs 38:19
But mine enemies live, and are mightier than I: and they that hate me unjustly are multiplied.
Ps 38:19
But my enemies are vigorous and many.
Those who hate me without reason are numerous.
Ps 38:20Ps 38:20וְֽ֭אֹיְבַי חַיִּ֣ים עָצֵ֑מוּ וְרַבּ֖וּ שֹׂנְאַ֣י שָֽׁקֶר׃Ps 38:19
But my enemies are vigorous and many.

21Ps 38:2021οἱ ἀνταποδιδόντες κακὰ ἀντὶ ἀγαθῶν ἐνδιέβαλλόν με ἐπεὶ κατεδίωκον δικαιοσύνην καὶ ἀπέρριψάν με τὸν ἀγαπητὸν ὡσεὶ νεκρὸν ἐβδελυγμένονPs 38:20
They that reward evil for good slandered me; because I followed righteousness.
Ps 38:20
They who also render evil for good are adversaries to me,
because I follow what is good.
Ps 38:21Ps 38:21וּמְשַׁלְּמֵ֣י רָ֭עָה תַּ֣חַת טוֹבָ֑ה יִ֝שְׂטְנ֗וּנִי תַּ֣חַת ‏{ רדופי־ רָֽדְפִי־ }‏ טֽוֹב׃

Forsake me not, O Lord my God: depart not from me.

Draw nigh to my help, O Lord of my salvation.
