¶The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:
2Prv 1:22γνῶναι σοφίαν καὶ παιδείαν νοῆσαί τε λόγους φρονήσεωςPrv 1:2
to know wisdom and instruction, and to perceive words of understanding;

to receive instruction in wise dealing,
in righteousness, justice, and equity;

that he might give subtlety to the simple, and to the young man discernment and understanding.

to give prudence to the simple,
knowledge and discretion to the young man:
5Prv 1:55τῶνδε γὰρ ἀκούσας σοφὸς σοφώτερος ἔσται ὁ δὲ νοήμων κυβέρνησιν κτήσεταιPrv 1:5
For by the hearing of these a wise man will be wiser, and man of understanding will gain direction;

that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning;
that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel:for, upon hearing these things, the wise will be wiser and the intelligent will acquire governanceª (self-determination)

to understand a proverb, and parables,
the words and riddles of the wise.
7Prv 1:77ἀρχὴ σοφίας φόβος θεοῦ σύνεσις δὲ ἀγαθὴ πᾶσι τοῖς ποιοῦσιν αὐτήν εὐσέβεια δὲ εἰς θεὸν ἀρχὴ αἰσθήσεως σοφίαν δὲ καὶ παιδείαν ἀσεβεῖς ἐξουθενήσουσινPrv 1:7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and there is good understanding to all that practise it: and piety toward God is the beginning of discernment; but the ungodly will set at nought wisdom and instruction.

If they should exhort thee, saying, Come with us, partake in blood, and let us unjustly hide the just man in the earth:

If they say, “Come with us,
Let’s lay in wait for blood;
let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;"Come with us! Share in blood.

If they say, “Come with us,

let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol,
and whole, like those who go down into the pit.

but do thou cast in thy lot with us, and let us all provide a common purse, and let us have one pouch:

15Prv 1:1515μὴ πορευθῇς ἐν ὁδῷ μετ’ αὐτῶν ἔκκλινον δὲ τὸν πόδα σου ἐκ τῶν τρίβων αὐτῶνPrv 1:15
go not in the way with them, but turn aside thy foot from their paths:

My son, don’t walk in the way with them.
Keep your foot from their path,

for nets are not without cause spread for birds.

For in vain is the net spread in the sight of any bird:

For in vain is the net spread in the sight of any bird:
18Prv 1:1818αὐτοὶ γὰρ οἱ φόνου μετέχοντες θησαυρίζουσιν ἑαυτοῖς κακά ἡ δὲ καταστροφὴ ἀνδρῶν παρανόμων κακήPrv 1:18
For they that are concerned in murder store up evils for themselves; and the overthrow of transgressors is evil.
Prv 1:18
but these lay wait for their own blood.
They lurk secretly for their own lives.
Prv 1:18Prv 1:18וְ֭הֵם לְדָמָ֣ם יֶאֱרֹ֑בוּ יִ֝צְפְּנ֗וּ לְנַפְשֹׁתָֽם׃Prv 1:18
but these lay wait for their own blood.
They lurk secretly for their own lives.
19Prv 1:1919αὗται αἱ ὁδοί εἰσιν πάντων τῶν συντελούντων τὰ ἄνομα τῇ γὰρ ἀσεβείᾳ τὴν ἑαυτῶν ψυχὴν ἀφαιροῦνταιPrv 1:19
These are the ways of all that perform lawless deeds; for by ungodliness they destroy their own life.

So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain.
It takes away the life of its owners.
Prv 1:19Prv 1:19כֵּ֗ן אָ֭רְחוֹת כָּל־בֹּ֣צֵֽעַ בָּ֑צַע אֶת־נֶ֖פֶשׁ בְּעָלָ֣יו יִקָּֽח׃ פ Prv 1:19

She utters her voice in the public squares.
Prv 1:20Prv 1:20חָ֭כְמוֹת בַּח֣וּץ תָּרֹ֑נָּה בָּ֝רְחֹב֗וֹת תִּתֵּ֥ן קוֹלָֽהּ׃Prv 1:20

21Prv 1:2121ἐπ’ ἄκρων δὲ τειχέων κηρύσσεται ἐπὶ δὲ πύλαις δυναστῶν παρεδρεύει ἐπὶ δὲ πύλαις πόλεως θαρροῦσα λέγειPrv 1:21
And she makes proclamation on the top of the walls, and sits by the gates of princes; and at the gates of the city boldly says,

She calls at the head of noisy places.
At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:
22Prv 1:2222ὅσον ἂν χρόνον ἄκακοι ἔχωνται τῆς δικαιοσύνης οὐκ αἰσχυνθήσονται οἱ δὲ ἄφρονες τῆς ὕβρεως ὄντες ἐπιθυμηταί ἀσεβεῖς γενόμενοι ἐμίσησαν αἴσθησινPrv 1:22
So long as the simple cleave to justice, they shall not be ashamed: but the foolish being lovers of haughtiness, having become ungodly have hated knowledge, and are become subject to reproofs.
Prv 1:22
“How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity?
How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery,
and fools hate knowledge?For as long as the innocent should be having a hold of righteousness, they will not be put to shame, but the unthinking, while lusting of hubris, upon becoming ungodly, hated discretion.

Behold, I will bring forth to you the utterance of my breath, and I will instruct you in my speech.

Turn at my reproof.
Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you.
I will make known my words to you.and they became liable to give an accountᶜ to reproofs. Behold, I will send forthª to you the saying of my breathᵇ, moreover I will teach you my word

Turn at my reproof.
Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you.
I will make known my words to you.

yea when dismay suddenly comes upon you, and your overthrow shall arrive like a tempest; and when tribulation and distress shall come upon you, or when ruin shall come upon you.

when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind;
when distress and anguish come on you.

when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind;
when distress and anguish come on you.
28Prv 1:2828ἔσται γὰρ ὅταν ἐπικαλέσησθέ με ἐγὼ δὲ οὐκ εἰσακούσομαι ὑμῶν ζητήσουσίν με κακοὶ καὶ οὐχ εὑρήσουσινPrv 1:28
For it shall be that when ye call upon me, I will not hearken to you: wicked men shall seek me, but shall not find me.

Then will they call on me, but I will not answer.
They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;

29Prv 1:2929ἐμίσησαν γὰρ σοφίαν τὸν δὲ φόβον τοῦ κυρίου οὐ προείλαντοPrv 1:29
For they hated wisdom, and did not choose the word of the Lord:

because they hated knowledge,
and didn’t choose the fear of Yahweh.

Therefore shall they eat the fruits of their own way, and shall be filled with their own ungodliness.

33Prv 1:3333ὁ δὲ ἐμοῦ ἀκούων κατασκηνώσει ἐπ’ ἐλπίδι καὶ ἡσυχάσει ἀφόβως ἀπὸ παντὸς κακοῦPrv 1:33
But he that hearkens to me shall dwell in confidence, and shall rest securely from all evil.

and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”
