¶Then Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam sang on that day, saying,
2Jgs 5:22ἐν τῷ ἄρξασθαι ἀρχηγοὺς ἐν Ισραηλ ἐν προαιρέσει λαοῦ εὐλογεῖτε τὸν κύριονJgs 5:2
A revelation was made in Israel when the people were made willing: Praise ye the Lord.

“Because the leaders took the lead in Israel,
because the people offered themselves willingly,
be blessed, Yahweh!

“Because the leaders took the lead in Israel,

3Jgs 5:33ἀκούσατε βασιλεῖς ἐνωτίζεσθε σατράπαι δυνατοί ἐγὼ τῷ κυρίῳ ᾄσομαι ψαλῶ τῷ θεῷ ΙσραηλJgs 5:3
Hear, ye kings, and hearken, rulers: I will sing, it is I who will sing to the Lord, it is I, I will sing a psalm to the Lord the god of Israel.

“Hear, you kings!
Give ear, you princes!
I, even I, will sing to Yahweh.
I will sing praise to Yahweh, the God of Israel.
4Jgs 5:44κύριε ἐν τῇ ἐξόδῳ σου ἐκ Σηιρ ἐν τῷ ἀπαίρειν σε ἐξ ἀγροῦ Εδωμ γῆ ἐσείσθη καὶ ὁ οὐρανὸς ἐξεστάθη καὶ αἱ νεφέλαι ἔσταξαν ὕδωρJgs 5:4
O Lord, in thy going forth on Seir, when thou wentest forth out of the land of Edom, the earth quaked and the heaven dropped dews, and the clouds dropped water.

“Yahweh, when you went forth out of Seir,
when you marched out of the field of Edom,
the earth trembled, the sky also dropped.
Yes, the clouds dropped water.

6Jgs 5:66ἐν ἡμέραις Σαμεγαρ υἱοῦ Αναθ ἐν ἡμέραις Ιαηλ ἐξέλιπον βασιλεῖς καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν τρίβους ἐπορεύθησαν ὁδοὺς διεστραμμέναςJgs 5:6
In the days of Samegar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, they deserted the ways, and went in by-ways; they went in crooked paths.

9Jgs 5:99ἡ καρδία μου ἐπὶ τὰ διατεταγμένα τῷ Ισραηλ οἱ δυνάσται τοῦ λαοῦ εὐλογεῖτε τὸν κύριονJgs 5:9
My heart inclines to the orders given in Israel; ye that are willing among the people, bless the Lord.

Ye that mount a she-ass at noon-day, ye that sit on the judgment-seat, and walk by the roads of them that sit in judgment by the way; declare

“Tell of it, you who ride on white donkeys,
you who sit on rich carpets,
and you who walk by the way.

“Tell of it, you who ride on white donkeys,

11Jgs 5:1111φθέγξασθε φωνὴν ἀνακρουομένων ἀνὰ μέσον εὐφραινομένων ἐκεῖ δώσουσιν δικαιοσύνην κυρίῳ δίκαιοι ἐνίσχυσαν ἐν τῷ Ισραηλ τότε κατέβη εἰς τὰς πόλεις αὐτοῦ ὁ λαὸς κυρίουJgs 5:11
ye that are delivered from the noise of disturbers among the drawers of water; there shall they relate righteous acts: O Lord, increase righteous acts in Israel: then the people of the Lord went down to the cities.

Far from the noise of archers, in the places of drawing water,
there they will rehearse the righteous acts of Yahweh,
Even the righteous acts of his rule in Israel.
“Then the people of Yahweh went down to the gates.
Jgs 5:11Jgs 5:11מִקּ֣וֹל מְחַֽצְצִ֗ים בֵּ֚ין מַשְׁאַבִּ֔ים שָׁ֤ם יְתַנּוּ֙ צִדְק֣וֹת יְהוָ֔ה צִדְקֹ֥ת פִּרְזֹנ֖וֹ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אָ֛ז יָרְד֥וּ לַשְּׁעָרִ֖ים עַם־יְהוָֽה׃Jgs 5:11
Far from the noise of archers, in the places of drawing water,

Awake, awake, Debbora; awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barac, and lead thy captivity captive, son of Abineem.

Arise, Barak, and lead away your captives, you son of Abinoam.’

‘Awake, awake, Deborah!
Awake, awake, utter a song!
Arise, Barak, and lead away your captives, you son of Abinoam.’
13Jgs 5:1313πότε ἐμεγαλύνθη ἡ ἰσχὺς αὐτοῦ κύριε ταπείνωσόν μοι τοὺς ἰσχυροτέρους μουJgs 5:13
Then went down the remnant to the strong, the people of the Lord went down for him among the mighty ones from me.

“Then a remnant of the nobles and the people came down.
Yahweh came down for me against the mighty.

14Jgs 5:1414λαὸς Εφραιμ ἐτιμωρήσατο αὐτοὺς ἐν κοιλάδι ἀδελφοῦ σου Βενιαμιν ἐν λαοῖς σου ἐξ ἐμοῦ Μαχιρ κατέβησαν ἐξερευνῶντες καὶ ἐκ Ζαβουλων κύριος ἐπολέμει μοι ἐν δυνατοῖς ἐκεῖθεν ἐν σκήπτρῳ ἐνισχύοντος ἡγήσεωςJgs 5:14
Ephraim rooted them out in Amalec, behind thee was Benjamin among thy people: the inhabitants of Machir came down with me searching out the enemy, and from Zabulon came they that draw with the scribe's pen of record.

Those whose root is in Amalek came out of Ephraim,
after you, Benjamin, among your peoples.
Governors come down out of Machir.
Those who handle the marshal’s staff came out of Zebulun.
Jgs 5:14Jgs 5:14מִנִּ֣י אֶפְרַ֗יִם שָׁרְשָׁם֙ בַּעֲמָלֵ֔ק אַחֲרֶ֥יךָ בִנְיָמִ֖ין בַּֽעֲמָמֶ֑יךָ מִנִּ֣י מָכִ֗יר יָֽרְדוּ֙ מְחֹ֣קְקִ֔ים וּמִ֨זְּבוּלֻ֔ן מֹשְׁכִ֖ים בְּשֵׁ֥בֶט סֹפֵֽר׃Jgs 5:14
Those whose root is in Amalek came out of Ephraim,

15Jgs 5:1515ἐν Ισσαχαρ μετὰ Δεββωρας ἐξαπέστειλεν πεζοὺς αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν κοιλάδα ἵνα τί σὺ κατοικεῖς ἐν μέσῳ χειλέων ἐξέτεινεν ἐν τοῖς ποσὶν αὐτοῦ ἐν διαιρέσεσιν Ρουβην μεγάλοι ἀκριβασμοὶ καρδίαςJgs 5:15
And princess in Issachar were with Debbora and Barac, thus she sent Barac on his feet in the valleys into the portions of Ruben; great pangs reached to the heart.

there were great resolves of heart.

16Jgs 5:1616ἵνα τί μοι κάθησαι ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν μοσφαθαιμ τοῦ εἰσακούειν συρισμοὺς ἐξεγειρόντων τοῦ διελθεῖν εἰς τὰ τοῦ Ρουβην μεγάλοι ἐξιχνιασμοὶ καρδίαςJgs 5:16

17Jgs 5:1717Γαλααδ ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ Ιορδάνου κατεσκήνωσεν καὶ Δαν ἵνα τί παροικεῖ πλοίοις Ασηρ παρῴκησεν παρ’ αἰγιαλὸν θαλασσῶν καὶ ἐπὶ τὰς διακοπὰς αὐτοῦ κατεσκήνωσενJgs 5:17
Galaad is on the other side of Jordan where he pitched his tents; and why does Dan remain in ships? Aser sat down on the sea-coasts, and he will tabernacle at his ports.

18Jgs 5:1818Ζαβουλων λαὸς ὀνειδίσας ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ εἰς θάνατον καὶ Νεφθαλιμ ἐπὶ ὕψη ἀγροῦJgs 5:18
The people Zabulon exposed their soul to death, and Nephthali came to the high places of their land.

Zebulun was a people that jeopardized their lives to the deaths;
Naphtali also, on the high places of the field.

Zebulun was a people that jeopardized their lives to the deaths;
Naphtali also, on the high places of the field.
19Jgs 5:1919ἦλθον βασιλεῖς καὶ παρετάξαντο τότε ἐπολέμησαν βασιλεῖς Χανααν ἐν Θενναχ ἐπὶ ὕδατος Μαγεδδω πλεονεξίαν ἀργυρίου οὐκ ἔλαβονJgs 5:19
Kings set themselves in array, then the kings of Chanaan fought in Thanaach at the water of Mageddo; they took no gift of money.

“The kings came and fought,
then the kings of Canaan fought at Taanach by the waters of Megiddo.
They took no plunder of silver.
Jgs 5:19Jgs 5:19בָּ֤אוּ מְלָכִים֙ נִלְחָ֔מוּ אָ֤ז נִלְחֲמוּ֙ מַלְכֵ֣י כְנַ֔עַן בְּתַעְנַ֖ךְ עַל־מֵ֣י מְגִדּ֑וֹ בֶּ֥צַע כֶּ֖סֶף לֹ֥א לָקָֽחוּ׃Jgs 5:19
“The kings came and fought,
then the kings of Canaan fought at Taanach by the waters of Megiddo.
They took no plunder of silver.
20Jgs 5:2020ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἐπολέμησαν ἀστέρες ἐκ τῆς τάξεως αὐτῶν ἐπολέμησαν μετὰ ΣισαραJgs 5:20
The stars from heaven set themselves in array, they set themselves to fight with Sisara out of their paths.

From the sky the stars fought.
From their courses, they fought against Sisera.
21Jgs 5:2121χειμάρρους Κισων ἐξέβαλεν αὐτούς χειμάρρους καδημιμ χειμάρρους Κισων καταπατήσει αὐτοὺς ψυχή μου δυνατήJgs 5:21
The brook of Kison swept them away, the ancient brook, the brook Kison: my mighty soul will trample him down.

22Jgs 5:2222τότε ἀπεκόπησαν πτέρναι ἵππου αμαδαρωθ δυνατῶν αὐτοῦJgs 5:22
When the hoofs of the horse were entangled, his mighty ones earnestly hasted

Then the horse hoofs stamped because of the prancings,
the prancings of their strong ones.

Then the horse hoofs stamped because of the prancings,

23Jgs 5:2323καταράσασθε Μαρωζ εἶπεν ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου καταράσει καταράσασθε τοὺς ἐνοίκους αὐτῆς ὅτι οὐκ ἤλθοσαν εἰς τὴν βοήθειαν κυρίου βοηθὸς ἡμῶν κύριος ἐν μαχηταῖς δυνατόςJgs 5:23
to curse Meroz: Curse ye it, said the angel of the Lord; cursed is every one that dwells in it, because they came not to the help of the Lord, to his help among the mighty.

‘Curse Meroz,’ said the angel of Yahweh.
‘Curse bitterly its inhabitants,
because they didn’t come to help Yahweh,
to help Yahweh against the mighty.’

‘Curse Meroz,’ said the angel of Yahweh.
‘Curse bitterly its inhabitants,
because they didn’t come to help Yahweh,
to help Yahweh against the mighty.’

Blessed among women be Jael wife of Chaber the Kenite; let her be blessed above women in tents.

“Jael shall be blessed above women,
the wife of Heber the Kenite;
blessed shall she be above women in the tent.

25Jgs 5:2525ὕδωρ ᾔτησεν αὐτήν καὶ γάλα ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ ἐν λακάνῃ ἰσχυρῶν προσήγγισεν βούτυρονJgs 5:25
He asked for water, she gave him milk in a dish; she brought butter of princes.

26Jgs 5:2626τὴν χεῖρα αὐτῆς τὴν ἀριστερὰν εἰς πάσσαλον ἐξέτεινεν τὴν δεξιὰν αὐτῆς εἰς ἀποτομὰς κατακόπων καὶ ἀπέτεμεν Σισαρα ἀπέτριψεν τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ συνέθλασεν καὶ διήλασεν τὴν γνάθον αὐτοῦJgs 5:26
She stretched forth her left hand to the nail, and her right to the hand workman's hammer, and she smote Sisara with it, she nailed through his head and smote him; she nailed through his temples.

He rolled down between her feet; he fell and lay between her feet; he bowed and fell: where he bowed, there he fell dead.

The mother of Sisara looked down through the window out of the loophole, saying, Why was his chariot ashamed? why did the wheels of his chariots tarry?

“Through the window she looked out, and cried:
Sisera’s mother looked through the lattice.
‘Why is his chariot so long in coming?
Why do the wheels of his chariots wait?’

“Through the window she looked out, and cried:
Sisera’s mother looked through the lattice.

29Jgs 5:2929σοφαὶ ἀρχουσῶν αὐτῆς ἀνταπεκρίναντο πρὸς αὐτήν καὶ αὐτὴ ἀπεκρίνατο ἐν ῥήμασιν αὐτῆςJgs 5:29
Her wise ladies answered her, and she returned answers to herself, saying,

Her wise ladies answered her,
Yes, she returned answer to herself,
30Jgs 5:3030οὐχὶ εὑρήσουσιν αὐτὸν διαμερίζοντα σκῦλα φιλιάζων φίλοις εἰς κεφαλὴν δυνατοῦ σκῦλα βαμμάτων Σισαρα σκῦλα βαμμάτων ποικιλίας βαφὴ ποικίλων περὶ τράχηλον αὐτοῦ σκῦλονJgs 5:30
Will they not find him dividing the spoil? he will surely be gracious to every man: there are spoils of dyed garments for Sisara, spoils of various dyed garments, dyed embroidered garments, they are the spoils for his neck.

‘Have they not found, have they not divided the spoil?
A lady, two ladies to every man;
to Sisera a spoil of dyed garments,
a spoil of dyed garments embroidered,
of dyed garments embroidered on both sides, on the necks of the spoil?’

‘Have they not found, have they not divided the spoil?
A lady, two ladies to every man;
to Sisera a spoil of dyed garments,
a spoil of dyed garments embroidered,
of dyed garments embroidered on both sides, on the necks of the spoil?’
31Jgs 5:3131οὕτως ἀπόλοιντο πάντες οἱ ἐχθροί σου κύριε καὶ οἱ ἀγαπῶντες αὐτὸν καθὼς ἡ ἀνατολὴ τοῦ ἡλίου ἐν δυναστείαις αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡσύχασεν ἡ γῆ τεσσαράκοντα ἔτηJgs 5:31
Thus let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: and they that love him shall be as the going forth of the sun in his strength.
Jgs 5:31
“So let all your enemies perish, Yahweh,
but let those who love him be as the sun when it rises forth in its strength.”
¶Then the land had rest forty years.
