“Call now; is there any who will answer you?
To which of the holy ones will you turn?

“Call now; is there any who will answer you?

2Jb 5:22καὶ γὰρ ἄφρονα ἀναιρεῖ ὀργή πεπλανημένον δὲ θανατοῖ ζῆλοςJb 5:2
For wrath destroys the foolish one, and envy slays him that has gone astray.

For resentment kills the foolish man,

3Jb 5:33ἐγὼ δὲ ἑώρακα ἄφρονας ῥίζαν βάλλοντας ἀλλ’ εὐθέως ἐβρώθη αὐτῶν ἡ δίαιταJb 5:3
And I have seen foolish ones taking root: but suddenly their habitation was devoured.

I have seen the foolish taking root,
but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
4Jb 5:44πόρρω γένοιντο οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτῶν ἀπὸ σωτηρίας κολαβρισθείησαν δὲ ἐπὶ θύραις ἡσσόνων καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ ἐξαιρούμενοςJb 5:4
Let their children be far from safety, and let them be crushed at the doors of vile men, and let there be no deliverer.
Jb 5:4
His children are far from safety.
They are crushed in the gate.
Neither is there any to deliver them,
Jb 5:4Jb 5:4יִרְחֲק֣וּ בָנָ֣יו מִיֶּ֑שַׁע וְיִֽדַּכְּא֥וּ בַ֝שַּׁ֗עַר וְאֵ֣ין מַצִּֽיל׃Jb 5:4
His children are far from safety.
They are crushed in the gate.
Neither is there any to deliver them,
5Jb 5:55ἃ γὰρ ἐκεῖνοι συνήγαγον δίκαιοι ἔδονται αὐτοὶ δὲ ἐκ κακῶν οὐκ ἐξαίρετοι ἔσονται ἐκσιφωνισθείη αὐτῶν ἡ ἰσχύςJb 5:5
For what they have collected, the just shall eat; but they shall not be delivered out of calamities: let their strength be utterly exhausted.
Jb 5:5
whose harvest the hungry eats up,
and take it even out of the thorns.
The snare gapes for their substance.
Jb 5:5Jb 5:5אֲשֶׁ֤ר קְצִיר֨וֹ ׀ רָ֘עֵ֤ב יֹאכֵ֗ל וְאֶֽל־מִצִּנִּ֥ים יִקָּחֵ֑הוּ וְשָׁאַ֖ף צַמִּ֣ים חֵילָֽם׃Jb 5:5
whose harvest the hungry eats up,
and take it even out of the thorns.
The snare gapes for their substance.
6Jb 5:66οὐ γὰρ μὴ ἐξέλθῃ ἐκ τῆς γῆς κόπος οὐδὲ ἐξ ὀρέων ἀναβλαστήσει πόνοςJb 5:6
For labour cannot by any means come out of the earth, nor shall trouble spring out of the mountains:

For affliction doesn’t come forth from the dust,
neither does trouble spring out of the ground;

neither does trouble spring out of the ground;
7Jb 5:77ἀλλὰ ἄνθρωπος γεννᾶται κόπῳ νεοσσοὶ δὲ γυπὸς τὰ ὑψηλὰ πέτονταιJb 5:7
yet man is born to labour, and even so the vulture's young seek the high places.
Jb 5:7
but man is born to trouble,
as the sparks fly upward.
Jb 5:7Jb 5:7כִּֽי־אָ֭דָם לְעָמָ֣ל יוּלָּ֑ד וּבְנֵי־רֶ֝֗שֶׁף יַגְבִּ֥יהוּ עֽוּף׃Jb 5:7
but man is born to trouble,
as the sparks fly upward.
8Jb 5:88οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ ἐγὼ δεηθήσομαι κυρίου κύριον δὲ τὸν πάντων δεσπότην ἐπικαλέσομαιJb 5:8
Nevertheless I will beseech the Lord, and will call upon the Lord, the sovereign of all;

“But as for me, I would seek God.
I would commit my cause to God,
Jb 5:8Jb 5:8אוּלָ֗ם אֲ֭נִי אֶדְרֹ֣שׁ אֶל־אֵ֑ל וְאֶל־אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים אָשִׂ֥ים דִּבְרָתִֽי׃Jb 5:8
“But as for me, I would seek God.
I would commit my cause to God,
9Jb 5:99τὸν ποιοῦντα μεγάλα καὶ ἀνεξιχνίαστα ἔνδοξά τε καὶ ἐξαίσια ὧν οὐκ ἔστιν ἀριθμόςJb 5:9
who does great things and untraceable, glorious things also, and marvellous, of which there is no number:

who does great things that can’t be fathomed,
marvelous things without number;
Jb 5:9Jb 5:9עֹשֶׂ֣ה גְ֭דֹלוֹת וְאֵ֣ין חֵ֑קֶר נִ֝פְלָא֗וֹת עַד־אֵ֥ין מִסְפָּֽר׃Jb 5:9
who does great things that can’t be fathomed,
marvelous things without number;
10Jb 5:1010τὸν διδόντα ὑετὸν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ἀποστέλλοντα ὕδωρ ἐπὶ τὴν ὑπ’ οὐρανόνJb 5:10
who gives rain upon the earth, sending water on the earth:

and sends waters on the fields;
Jb 5:10Jb 5:10הַנֹּתֵ֣ן מָ֭טָר עַל־פְּנֵי־אָ֑רֶץ וְשֹׁ֥לֵֽחַ מַ֝יִם עַל־פְּנֵ֥י חוּצֽוֹת׃Jb 5:10
who gives rain on the earth,
and sends waters on the fields;
11Jb 5:1111τὸν ποιοῦντα ταπεινοὺς εἰς ὕψος καὶ ἀπολωλότας ἐξεγείρονταJb 5:11
who exalts the lowly, and raises up them that are lost:
Jb 5:11
so that he sets up on high those who are low,
those who mourn are exalted to safety.
Jb 5:11Jb 5:11לָשׂ֣וּם שְׁפָלִ֣ים לְמָר֑וֹם וְ֝קֹדְרִ֗ים שָׂ֣גְבוּ יֶֽשַׁע׃Jb 5:11

12Jb 5:1212διαλλάσσοντα βουλὰς πανούργων καὶ οὐ μὴ ποιήσουσιν αἱ χεῖρες αὐτῶν ἀληθέςJb 5:12

So that their hands can’t perform their enterprise.

He frustrates the devices of the crafty,
So that their hands can’t perform their enterprise.
13Jb 5:1313ὁ καταλαμβάνων σοφοὺς ἐν τῇ φρονήσει βουλὴν δὲ πολυπλόκων ἐξέστησενJb 5:13
who takes the wise in their wisdom, and subverts the counsel of the crafty
Jb 5:13
He takes the wise in their own craftiness;
the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.
Jb 5:13Jb 5:13לֹכֵ֣ד חֲכָמִ֣ים בְּעָרְמָ֑ם וַעֲצַ֖ת נִפְתָּלִ֣ים נִמְהָֽרָה׃Jb 5:13
He takes the wise in their own craftiness;

14Jb 5:1414ἡμέρας συναντήσεται αὐτοῖς σκότος τὸ δὲ μεσημβρινὸν ψηλαφήσαισαν ἴσα νυκτίJb 5:14
In the day darkness shall come upon them, and let them grope in the noon-day even as in the night:

They meet with darkness in the day time,
and grope at noonday as in the night.
Jb 5:14Jb 5:14יוֹמָ֥ם יְפַגְּשׁוּ־חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וְ֝כַלַּ֗יְלָה יְֽמַשְׁשׁ֥וּ בַֽצָּהֳרָֽיִם׃Jb 5:14
They meet with darkness in the day time,
and grope at noonday as in the night.
15Jb 5:1515ἀπόλοιντο δὲ ἐν πολέμῳ ἀδύνατος δὲ ἐξέλθοι ἐκ χειρὸς δυνάστουJb 5:15
and let them perish in war, and let the weak escape from the hand of the mighty.
Jb 5:15
But he saves from the sword of their mouth,
even the needy from the hand of the mighty.
Jb 5:15Jb 5:15וַיֹּ֣שַׁע מֵ֭חֶרֶב מִפִּיהֶ֑ם וּמִיַּ֖ד חָזָ֣ק אֶבְיֽוֹן׃Jb 5:15
But he saves from the sword of their mouth,
even the needy from the hand of the mighty.
16Jb 5:1616εἴη δὲ ἀδυνάτῳ ἐλπίς ἀδίκου δὲ στόμα ἐμφραχθείηJb 5:16
And let the weak have hope, but the mouth of the unjust be stopped.

So the poor has hope,
and injustice shuts her mouth.

17Jb 5:1717μακάριος δὲ ἄνθρωπος ὃν ἤλεγξεν ὁ κύριος νουθέτημα δὲ παντοκράτορος μὴ ἀπαναίνουJb 5:17
But blessed is the man whom the Lord has reproved; and reject not thou the chastening of the Almighty.
Jb 5:17
“Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects.
Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
Jb 5:17Jb 5:17הִנֵּ֤ה אַשְׁרֵ֣י אֱ֭נוֹשׁ יוֹכִחֶ֣נּֽוּ אֱל֑וֹהַּ וּמוּסַ֥ר שַׁ֝דַּ֗י אַל־תִּמְאָֽס׃Jb 5:17
“Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects.
Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
18Jb 5:1818αὐτὸς γὰρ ἀλγεῖν ποιεῖ καὶ πάλιν ἀποκαθίστησιν ἔπαισεν καὶ αἱ χεῖρες αὐτοῦ ἰάσαντοJb 5:18
for he causes a man to be in pain, and restores him again: he smites, and his hands heal.

For he wounds, and binds up.

19Jb 5:1919ἑξάκις ἐξ ἀναγκῶν σε ἐξελεῖται ἐν δὲ τῷ ἑβδόμῳ οὐ μὴ ἅψηταί σου κακόνJb 5:19
Six time he shall deliver thee out of distresses: and in the seventh harm shall not touch thee.
Jb 5:19
He will deliver you in six troubles;
yes, in seven no evil shall touch you.
Jb 5:19Jb 5:19בְּשֵׁ֣שׁ צָ֭רוֹת יַצִּילֶ֑ךָּ וּבְשֶׁ֓בַע ׀ לֹא־יִגַּ֖ע בְּךָ֣ רָֽע׃Jb 5:19
He will deliver you in six troubles;
yes, in seven no evil shall touch you.
20Jb 5:2020ἐν λιμῷ ῥύσεταί σε ἐκ θανάτου ἐν πολέμῳ δὲ ἐκ χειρὸς σιδήρου λύσει σεJb 5:20
In famine he shall deliver thee from death: and in war he shall free thee from the power of the sword.
Jb 5:20
In famine he will redeem you from death;
in war, from the power of the sword.
Jb 5:20Jb 5:20בְּ֭רָעָב פָּֽדְךָ֣ מִמָּ֑וֶת וּ֝בְמִלְחָמָ֗ה מִ֣ידֵי חָֽרֶב׃Jb 5:20
In famine he will redeem you from death;
in war, from the power of the sword.
21Jb 5:2121ἀπὸ μάστιγος γλώσσης σε κρύψει καὶ οὐ μὴ φοβηθῇς ἀπὸ κακῶν ἐρχομένωνJb 5:21
He shall hide thee from the scourge of the tongue: and thou shalt not be afraid of coming evils.
Jb 5:21
You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue,
neither shall you be afraid of destruction when it comes.
Jb 5:21Jb 5:21בְּשׁ֣וֹט לָ֭שׁוֹן תֵּחָבֵ֑א וְֽלֹא־תִירָ֥א מִ֝שֹּׁ֗ד כִּ֣י יָבֽוֹא׃Jb 5:21
You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue,
neither shall you be afraid of destruction when it comes.

Thou shalt laugh at the unrighteous and the lawless: and thou shalt not be afraid of wild beasts.

At destruction and famine you shall laugh,
neither shall you be afraid of the animals of the earth.

Then shalt thou know that thy house shall be at peace, and the provision for thy tabernacle shall not fail.

You shall know that your tent is in peace.
You shall visit your fold, and shall miss nothing.
Jb 5:24Jb 5:24וְֽ֭יָדַעְתָּ כִּי־שָׁל֣וֹם אָהֳלֶ֑ךָ וּֽפָקַדְתָּ֥ נָ֝וְךָ וְלֹ֣א תֶחֱטָֽא׃Jb 5:24
You shall know that your tent is in peace.
You shall visit your fold, and shall miss nothing.
25Jb 5:2525γνώσῃ δὲ ὅτι πολὺ τὸ σπέρμα σου τὰ δὲ τέκνα σου ἔσται ὥσπερ τὸ παμβότανον τοῦ ἀγροῦJb 5:25
And thou shalt know that thy seed shall be abundant; and thy children shall be like the herbage of the field.

You shall know also that your seed shall be great,
Your offspring as the grass of the earth.
Jb 5:25Jb 5:25וְֽ֭יָדַעְתָּ כִּי־רַ֣ב זַרְעֶ֑ךָ וְ֝צֶאֱצָאֶ֗יךָ כְּעֵ֣שֶׂב הָאָֽרֶץ׃Jb 5:25
You shall know also that your seed shall be great,
Your offspring as the grass of the earth.
26Jb 5:2626ἐλεύσῃ δὲ ἐν τάφῳ ὥσπερ σῖτος ὥριμος κατὰ καιρὸν θεριζόμενος ἢ ὥσπερ θιμωνιὰ ἅλωνος καθ’ ὥραν συγκομισθεῖσαJb 5:26
And thou shalt come to the grave like ripe corn reaped in its season, or as a heap of the corn-flour collected in proper time.
Jb 5:26
You shall come to your grave in a full age,
like a shock of grain comes in its season.
Jb 5:26Jb 5:26תָּב֣וֹא בְכֶ֣לַח אֱלֵי־קָ֑בֶר כַּעֲל֖וֹת גָּדִ֣ישׁ בְּעִתּֽוֹ׃Jb 5:26
You shall come to your grave in a full age,
like a shock of grain comes in its season.
27Jb 5:2727ἰδοὺ ταῦτα οὕτως ἐξιχνιάσαμεν ταῦτά ἐστιν ἃ ἀκηκόαμεν σὺ δὲ γνῶθι σεαυτῷ εἴ τι ἔπραξαςJb 5:27
Behold, we have thus sought out these matters; these are what we have heard: but do thou reflect with thyself, if thou hast done anything wrong.

Look this, we have searched it, so it is.
Hear it, and know it for your good.”
