And the Lord yet again answered and spoke to Job out of the cloud, saying,

2Jb 40:22μὴ κρίσιν μετὰ ἱκανοῦ ἐκκλινεῖ ἐλέγχων θεὸν ἀποκριθήσεται αὐτήνJb 40:2
Nay, gird up now thy loins like a man; and I will ask thee, and do thou answer me.

“Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty?
He who argues with God, let him answer it.”

“Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty?
He who argues with God, let him answer it.”
3Jb 40:33ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ιωβ λέγει τῷ κυρίῳJb 40:3
Do not set aside my judgment: and dost thou think that I have dealt with thee in any other way, than that thou mightest appear to be righteous?

¶Then Job answered Yahweh,
Jb 40:3Jb 40:3וַיַּ֖עַן אִיּ֥וֹב אֶת־יְהוָ֗ה וַיֹּאמַֽר׃Jb 40:3
¶Then Job answered Yahweh,
4Jb 40:44τί ἔτι ἐγὼ κρίνομαι νουθετούμενος καὶ ἐλέγχων κύριον ἀκούων τοιαῦτα οὐθὲν ὤν ἐγὼ δὲ τίνα ἀπόκρισιν δῶ πρὸς ταῦτα χεῖρα θήσω ἐπὶ στόματί μουJb 40:4
Hast thou an arm like the Lord's? or dost thou thunder with a voice like his?
Jb 40:4
“Behold, I am of small account. What shall I answer you?
I lay my hand on my mouth.
Jb 40:4Jb 40:4הֵ֣ן קַ֭לֹּתִי מָ֣ה אֲשִׁיבֶ֑ךָּ יָ֝דִ֗י שַׂ֣מְתִּי לְמוֹ־פִֽי׃Jb 40:4
“Behold, I am of small account. What shall I answer you?
I lay my hand on my mouth.
5Jb 40:55ἅπαξ λελάληκα ἐπὶ δὲ τῷ δευτέρῳ οὐ προσθήσωJb 40:5
Assume now a lofty bearing and power; and clothe thyself with glory and honour.
Jb 40:5
I have spoken once, and I will not answer;
Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.”

I have spoken once, and I will not answer;
Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.”
6Jb 40:66ἔτι δὲ ὑπολαβὼν ὁ κύριος εἶπεν τῷ Ιωβ ἐκ τοῦ νέφουςJb 40:6
And send forth messengers with wrath; and lay low every haughty one.

¶Then Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind,
Jb 40:6Jb 40:6וַיַּֽעַן־יְהוָ֣ה אֶת־אִ֭יּוֹב ‏{ מן סערה מִ֥ן ׀ סְעָרָ֗ה }‏ וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

Jb 40:6
¶Then Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind,
7Jb 40:77μή ἀλλὰ ζῶσαι ὥσπερ ἀνὴρ τὴν ὀσφύν σου ἐρωτήσω δέ σε σὺ δέ μοι ἀποκρίθητιJb 40:7
Bring down also the proud man; and consume at once the ungodly.

“Now brace yourself like a man.
I will question you, and you will answer me.
Jb 40:7Jb 40:7אֱזָר־נָ֣א כְגֶ֣בֶר חֲלָצֶ֑יךָ אֶ֝שְׁאָלְךָ֗ וְהוֹדִיעֵֽנִי׃Jb 40:7
“Now brace yourself like a man.
I will question you, and you will answer me.
8Jb 40:88μὴ ἀποποιοῦ μου τὸ κρίμα οἴει δέ με ἄλλως σοι κεχρηματικέναι ἢ ἵνα ἀναφανῇς δίκαιοςJb 40:8
And hide them together in the earth; and fill their faces with shame.

Will you even annul my judgment?
Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?
Jb 40:8Jb 40:8הַ֭אַף תָּפֵ֣ר מִשְׁפָּטִ֑י תַּ֝רְשִׁיעֵ֗נִי לְמַ֣עַן תִּצְדָּֽק׃Jb 40:8

9Jb 40:99ἦ βραχίων σοί ἐστιν κατὰ τοῦ κυρίου ἢ φωνῇ κατ’ αὐτὸν βροντᾷςJb 40:9
Then will I confess that thy right hand can save thee.

Or do you have an arm like God?

10Jb 40:1010ἀνάλαβε δὴ ὕψος καὶ δύναμιν δόξαν δὲ καὶ τιμὴν ἀμφίεσαιJb 40:10
But now look at the wild beasts with thee; they eat grass like oxen.

“Now deck yourself with excellency and dignity.
Array yourself with honor and majesty.
Jb 40:10Jb 40:10עֲדֵ֥ה נָ֣א גָֽא֣וֹן וָגֹ֑בַהּ וְה֖וֹד וְהָדָ֣ר תִּלְבָּֽשׁ׃Jb 40:10
“Now deck yourself with excellency and dignity.
Array yourself with honor and majesty.
11Jb 40:1111ἀπόστειλον δὲ ἀγγέλους ὀργῇ πᾶν δὲ ὑβριστὴν ταπείνωσονJb 40:11
Behold now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.

Pour out the fury of your anger.
Look at everyone who is proud, and bring him low.
Jb 40:11Jb 40:11הָ֭פֵץ עֶבְר֣וֹת אַפֶּ֑ךָ וּרְאֵ֥ה כָל־גֵּ֝אֶ֗ה וְהַשְׁפִּילֵֽהוּ׃Jb 40:11
Pour out the fury of your anger.
Look at everyone who is proud, and bring him low.
12Jb 40:1212ὑπερήφανον δὲ σβέσον σῆψον δὲ ἀσεβεῖς παραχρῆμαJb 40:12
He sets up his tail like a cypress; and his nerves are wrapped together.

Look at everyone who is proud, and humble him.
Crush the wicked in their place.
Jb 40:12Jb 40:12רְאֵ֣ה כָל־גֵּ֭אֶה הַכְנִיעֵ֑הוּ וַהֲדֹ֖ךְ רְשָׁעִ֣ים תַּחְתָּֽם׃Jb 40:12
Look at everyone who is proud, and humble him.
Crush the wicked in their place.
13Jb 40:1313κρύψον δὲ εἰς γῆν ἔξω ὁμοθυμαδόν τὰ δὲ πρόσωπα αὐτῶν ἀτιμίας ἔμπλησονJb 40:13
His sides are sides of brass; and his backbone is as cast iron.
Jb 40:13
Hide them in the dust together.
Bind their faces in the hidden place.
Jb 40:13Jb 40:13טָמְנֵ֣ם בֶּעָפָ֣ר יָ֑חַד פְּ֝נֵיהֶ֗ם חֲבֹ֣שׁ בַּטָּמֽוּן׃Jb 40:13
Hide them in the dust together.
Bind their faces in the hidden place.
14Jb 40:1414ὁμολογήσω ἄρα ὅτι δύναται ἡ δεξιά σου σῶσαιJb 40:14
This is the chief of the creation of the Lord; made to be played with by his angels.

Then I will also admit to you
that your own right hand can save you.
Jb 40:14Jb 40:14וְגַם־אֲנִ֥י אוֹדֶ֑ךָּ כִּֽי־תוֹשִׁ֖עַ לְךָ֣ יְמִינֶֽךָ׃Jb 40:14
Then I will also admit to you

15Jb 40:1515ἀλλὰ δὴ ἰδοὺ θηρία παρὰ σοί χόρτον ἴσα βουσὶν ἐσθίειJb 40:15
And when he has gone up to a steep mountain, he causes joy to the quadrupeds in the deep.

“See now, behemoth, which I made as well as you.

“See now, behemoth, which I made as well as you.
He eats grass as an ox.
16Jb 40:1616ἰδοὺ δὴ ἰσχὺς αὐτοῦ ἐπ’ ὀσφύι ἡ δὲ δύναμις ἐπ’ ὀμφαλοῦ γαστρόςJb 40:16
He lies under trees of every kind, by the papyrus, and reed, and bulrush.

17Jb 40:1717ἔστησεν οὐρὰν ὡς κυπάρισσον τὰ δὲ νεῦρα αὐτοῦ συμπέπλεκταιJb 40:17
And the great trees make a shadow over him with their branches, and so do the bushes of the field.

He moves his tail like a cedar.
The sinews of his thighs are knit together.
Jb 40:17Jb 40:17יַחְפֹּ֣ץ זְנָב֣וֹ כְמוֹ־אָ֑רֶז גִּידֵ֖י ‏{ פחדו פַחֲדָ֣יו }‏ יְשֹׂרָֽגוּ׃

Jb 40:17
He moves his tail like a cedar.
The sinews of his thighs are knit together.
18Jb 40:1818αἱ πλευραὶ αὐτοῦ πλευραὶ χάλκειαι ἡ δὲ ῥάχις αὐτοῦ σίδηρος χυτόςJb 40:18
If there should be a flood, he will not perceive it; he trust that Jordan will rush up into his mouth.

His bones are like tubes of brass.
His limbs are like bars of iron.
Jb 40:18Jb 40:18עֲ֭צָמָיו אֲפִיקֵ֣י נְחוּשָׁ֑ה גְּ֝רָמָ֗יו כִּמְטִ֥יל בַּרְזֶֽל׃Jb 40:18

19Jb 40:1919τοῦτ’ ἔστιν ἀρχὴ πλάσματος κυρίου πεποιημένον ἐγκαταπαίζεσθαι ὑπὸ τῶν ἀγγέλων αὐτοῦJb 40:19
Yet one shall take him in his sight; one shall catch him with a cord, and pierce his nose.

He is the chief of the ways of God.

Jb 40:19Jb 40:19ה֭וּא רֵאשִׁ֣ית דַּרְכֵי־אֵ֑ל הָ֝עֹשׂוֹ יַגֵּ֥שׁ חַרְבּֽוֹ׃Jb 40:19

Surely the mountains produce food for him,
where all the animals of the field play.
Jb 40:20Jb 40:20כִּֽי־ב֭וּל הָרִ֣ים יִשְׂאוּ־ל֑וֹ וְֽכָל־חַיַּ֥ת הַ֝שָּׂדֶ֗ה יְשַֽׂחֲקוּ־שָֽׁם׃Jb 40:20

21Jb 40:2121ὑπὸ παντοδαπὰ δένδρα κοιμᾶται παρὰ πάπυρον καὶ κάλαμον καὶ βούτομονJb 40:21
Or wilt thou fasten a ring in his nostril, and bore his lip with a clasp?

in the covert of the reed, and the marsh.

22Jb 40:2222σκιάζονται δὲ ἐν αὐτῷ δένδρα μεγάλα σὺν ῥαδάμνοις καὶ κλῶνες ἄγνουJb 40:22
Will he address thee with a petition? softly, with the voice of a suppliant?

Jb 40:22Jb 40:22יְסֻכֻּ֣הוּ צֶאֱלִ֣ים צִֽלֲל֑וֹ יְ֝סֻבּ֗וּהוּ עַרְבֵי־נָֽחַל׃Jb 40:22

Hast thou not seen him? and hast thou not wondered at the things said of him? Dost thou not fear because preparation has been made by me? for who is there that resists me?

26Jb 41:226εἰ δήσεις κρίκον ἐν τῷ μυκτῆρι αὐτοῦ ψελίῳ δὲ τρυπήσεις τὸ χεῖλος αὐτοῦJb 41:2
Or who will resist me, and abide, since the whole world under heaven is mine?

Can you put a rope into his nose,
or pierce his jaw through with a hook?
Jb 40:26Jb 40:26הֲתָשִׂ֣ים אַגְמ֣וֹן בְּאַפּ֑וֹ וּ֝בְח֗וֹחַ תִּקּ֥וֹב לֶֽחֱיוֹ׃Jb 41:2

27Jb 41:327λαλήσει δέ σοι δεήσει ἱκετηρίᾳ μαλακῶςJb 41:3
I will not be silent because of him: though because of his power one shall pity his antagonist.

or will he speak soft words to you?
28Jb 41:428θήσεται δὲ διαθήκην μετὰ σοῦ λήμψῃ δὲ αὐτὸν δοῦλον αἰώνιονJb 41:4
Who will open the face of his garment? and who can enter within the fold of his breastplate?
Jb 41:4
Will he make a covenant with you,
that you should take him for a servant forever?
Jb 40:28Jb 40:28הֲיִכְרֹ֣ת בְּרִ֣ית עִמָּ֑ךְ תִּ֝קָּחֶ֗נּוּ לְעֶ֣בֶד עוֹלָֽם׃Jb 41:4
Will he make a covenant with you,
that you should take him for a servant forever?
29Jb 41:529παίξῃ δὲ ἐν αὐτῷ ὥσπερ ὀρνέῳ ἢ δήσεις αὐτὸν ὥσπερ στρουθίον παιδίῳJb 41:5
Who will open the doors of his face? terror is round about his teeth.

Will you play with him as with a bird?
Or will you bind him for your girls?
Jb 40:29Jb 40:29הַֽתְשַׂחֶק־בּ֭וֹ כַּצִּפּ֑וֹר וְ֝תִקְשְׁרֶ֗נּוּ לְנַעֲרוֹתֶֽיךָ׃Jb 41:5
Will you play with him as with a bird?
Or will you bind him for your girls?
30Jb 41:630ἐνσιτοῦνται δὲ ἐν αὐτῷ ἔθνη μεριτεύονται δὲ αὐτὸν φοινίκων γένηJb 41:6
His inwards are as brazen plates, and the texture of his skin as a smyrite stone.

Will traders barter for him?
Will they part him among the merchants?
Jb 40:30Jb 40:30יִכְר֣וּ עָ֭לָיו חַבָּרִ֑ים יֶ֝חֱצ֗וּהוּ בֵּ֣ין כְּֽנַעֲנִֽים׃Jb 41:6

31Jb 41:731πᾶν δὲ πλωτὸν συνελθὸν οὐ μὴ ἐνέγκωσιν βύρσαν μίαν οὐρᾶς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν πλοίοις ἁλιέων κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦJb 41:7
One part cleaves fast to another, and the air cannot come between them.
Jb 41:7
Can you fill his skin with barbed irons,
or his head with fish spears?
Jb 40:31Jb 40:31הַֽתְמַלֵּ֣א בְשֻׂכּ֣וֹת עוֹר֑וֹ וּבְצִלְצַ֖ל דָּגִ֣ים רֹאשֽׁוֹ׃Jb 41:7
Can you fill his skin with barbed irons,
or his head with fish spears?
32Jb 41:832ἐπιθήσεις δὲ αὐτῷ χεῖρα μνησθεὶς πόλεμον τὸν γινόμενον ἐν σώματι αὐτοῦ καὶ μηκέτι γινέσθωJb 41:8
They will remain united each to the other: they are closely joined, and cannot be separated.
Jb 41:8
Lay your hand on him.
Remember the battle, and do so no more.
Jb 40:32Jb 40:32שִׂים־עָלָ֥יו כַּפֶּ֑ךָ זְכֹ֥ר מִ֝לְחָמָ֗ה אַל־תּוֹסַֽף׃Jb 41:8
