And his three friends also ceased any longer to answer Job: for Job was righteous before them.

¶So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
Jb 32:1Jb 32:1וַֽיִּשְׁבְּת֡וּ שְׁלֹ֤שֶׁת הָאֲנָשִׁ֣ים הָ֭אֵלֶּה מֵעֲנ֣וֹת אֶת־אִיּ֑וֹב כִּ֤י ה֖וּא צַדִּ֣יק בְּעֵינָֽיו׃ פ Jb 32:1
¶So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
2Jb 32:22ὠργίσθη δὲ Ελιους ὁ τοῦ Βαραχιηλ ὁ Βουζίτης ἐκ τῆς συγγενείας Ραμ τῆς Αυσίτιδος χώρας ὠργίσθη δὲ τῷ Ιωβ σφόδρα διότι ἀπέφηνεν ἑαυτὸν δίκαιον ἐναντίον κυρίουJb 32:2
Then Elius the son of Barachiel, the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, of the country of Ausis, was angered: and he was very angry with Job, because he justified himself before the Lord.

Then the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel, the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled against Job. His wrath was kindled because he justified himself rather than God.
Jb 32:2Jb 32:2וַיִּ֤חַר אַ֨ף ׀ אֱלִיה֣וּא בֶן־בַּרַכְאֵ֣ל הַבּוּזִי֮ מִמִּשְׁפַּ֪חַ֫ת רָ֥ם בְּ֭אִיּוֹב חָרָ֣ה אַפּ֑וֹ עַֽל־צַדְּק֥וֹ נַ֝פְשׁ֗וֹ מֵאֱלֹהִֽים׃Jb 32:2
Then the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel, the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled against Job. His wrath was kindled because he justified himself rather than God.
3Jb 32:33καὶ κατὰ τῶν τριῶν δὲ φίλων ὠργίσθη σφόδρα διότι οὐκ ἠδυνήθησαν ἀποκριθῆναι ἀντίθετα Ιωβ καὶ ἔθεντο αὐτὸν εἶναι ἀσεβῆJb 32:3
And he was also very angry with his three friends, because they were not able to return answers to Job, yet set him down for an ungodly man.

Also his wrath was kindled against his three friends, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
Jb 32:3Jb 32:3וּבִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת רֵעָיו֮ חָרָ֪ה אַ֫פּ֥וֹ עַ֤ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־מָצְא֣וּ מַעֲנֶ֑ה וַ֝יַּרְשִׁ֗יעוּ אֶת־אִיּֽוֹב׃Jb 32:3
Also his wrath was kindled against his three friends, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
4Jb 32:44Ελιους δὲ ὑπέμεινεν δοῦναι ἀπόκρισιν Ιωβ ὅτι πρεσβύτεροι αὐτοῦ εἰσιν ἡμέραιςJb 32:4
But Elius had forborne to give an answer to Job, because they were older than he.

Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job, because they were elder than he.
Jb 32:4Jb 32:4וֶֽאֱלִיה֗וּ חִכָּ֣ה אֶת־אִ֭יּוֹב בִּדְבָרִ֑ים כִּ֤י זְֽקֵנִים־הֵ֖מָּה מִמֶּ֣נּוּ לְיָמִֽים׃Jb 32:4
Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job, because they were elder than he.
5Jb 32:55καὶ εἶδεν Ελιους ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἀπόκρισις ἐν στόματι τῶν τριῶν ἀνδρῶν καὶ ἐθυμώθη ὀργὴ αὐτοῦJb 32:5
And Elius saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men; and he was angered in his wrath.

When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was kindled.

When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was kindled.
6Jb 32:66ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ελιους ὁ τοῦ Βαραχιηλ ὁ Βουζίτης εἶπεν νεώτερος μέν εἰμι τῷ χρόνῳ ὑμεῖς δέ ἐστε πρεσβύτεροι διὸ ἡσύχασα φοβηθεὶς τοῦ ὑμῖν ἀναγγεῖλαι τὴν ἐμαυτοῦ ἐπιστήμηνJb 32:6
And Elius the Buzite the son of Barachiel answered and said, I am younger in age, and ye are elder, wherefore I kept silence, fearing to declare to you my own knowledge.

¶Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered,
“I am young, and you are very old;
Therefore I held back, and didn’t dare show you my opinion.
Jb 32:6Jb 32:6וַיַּ֤עַן ׀ אֱלִיה֖וּא בֶן־בַּֽרַכְאֵ֥ל הַבּוּזִ֗י וַיֹּ֫אמַ֥ר צָ֘עִ֤יר אֲנִ֣י לְ֭יָמִים וְאַתֶּ֣ם יְשִׁישִׁ֑ים עַל־כֵּ֖ן זָחַ֥לְתִּי וָֽאִירָ֓א ׀ מֵחַוֹּ֖ת דֵּעִ֣י אֶתְכֶֽם׃Jb 32:6
¶Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered,
“I am young, and you are very old;
Therefore I held back, and didn’t dare show you my opinion.
7Jb 32:77εἶπα δὲ ὅτι ὁ χρόνος ἐστὶν ὁ λαλῶν ἐν πολλοῖς δὲ ἔτεσιν οἴδασιν σοφίανJb 32:7
And I said, It is not time that speaks, though in many years men know wisdom:
Jb 32:7
I said, ‘Days should speak,
and multitude of years should teach wisdom.’
Jb 32:7Jb 32:7אָ֭מַרְתִּי יָמִ֣ים יְדַבֵּ֑רוּ וְרֹ֥ב שָׁ֝נִ֗ים יֹדִ֥יעוּ חָכְמָֽה׃Jb 32:7
I said, ‘Days should speak,
and multitude of years should teach wisdom.’
8Jb 32:88ἀλλὰ πνεῦμά ἐστιν ἐν βροτοῖς πνοὴ δὲ παντοκράτορός ἐστιν ἡ διδάσκουσαJb 32:8
but there is a spirit in mortals; and the inspiration of the Almighty is that which teaches.
Jb 32:8
But there is a spirit in man,
and the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.
Jb 32:8Jb 32:8אָ֭כֵן רֽוּחַ־הִ֣יא בֶאֱנ֑וֹשׁ וְנִשְׁמַ֖ת שַׁדַּ֣י תְּבִינֵֽם׃Jb 32:8
But there is a spirit in man,
and the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.
9Jb 32:99οὐχ οἱ πολυχρόνιοί εἰσιν σοφοί οὐδ’ οἱ γέροντες οἴδασιν κρίμαJb 32:9
The long-lived are not wise as such; neither do the aged know judgment.
Jb 32:9
It is not the great who are wise,
nor the aged who understand justice.
Jb 32:9Jb 32:9לֹֽא־רַבִּ֥ים יֶחְכָּ֑מוּ וּ֝זְקֵנִ֗ים יָבִ֥ינוּ מִשְׁפָּֽט׃Jb 32:9
It is not the great who are wise,
nor the aged who understand justice.
10Jb 32:1010διὸ εἶπα ἀκούσατέ μου καὶ ἀναγγελῶ ὑμῖν ἃ οἶδαJb 32:10
Wherefore I said, Hear me, and I will tell you what I know.

Therefore I said, ‘Listen to me;
I also will show my opinion.’
Jb 32:10Jb 32:10לָכֵ֣ן אָ֭מַרְתִּי שִׁמְעָה־לִּ֑י אֲחַוֶּ֖ה דֵּעִ֣י אַף־אָֽנִי׃Jb 32:10
Therefore I said, ‘Listen to me;
I also will show my opinion.’
11Jb 32:1111ἐνωτίζεσθέ μου τὰ ῥήματα ἐρῶ γὰρ ὑμῶν ἀκουόντων ἄχρι οὗ ἐτάσητε λόγουςJb 32:11
Hearken to my words; for I will speak in your hearing, until ye shall have tried the matter with words:

“Behold, I waited for your words,
and I listened for your reasoning,
while you searched out what to say.
Jb 32:11Jb 32:11הֵ֤ן הוֹחַ֨לְתִּי לְֽדִבְרֵיכֶ֗ם אָ֭זִין עַד־תְּב֥וּנֹֽתֵיכֶ֑ם עַֽד־תַּחְקְר֥וּן מִלִּֽין׃Jb 32:11
“Behold, I waited for your words,
and I listened for your reasoning,
while you searched out what to say.
12Jb 32:1212καὶ μέχρι ὑμῶν συνήσω καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐκ ἦν τῷ Ιωβ ἐλέγχων ἀνταποκρινόμενος ῥήματα αὐτοῦ ἐξ ὑμῶνJb 32:12
and I shall understand as far as you; and, behold, there was no one of you that answered Job his words in argument,
Jb 32:12
Yes, I gave you my full attention,
but there was no one who convinced Job,
or who answered his words, among you.
Jb 32:12Jb 32:12וְעָֽדֵיכֶ֗ם אֶתְבּ֫וֹנָ֥ן וְהִנֵּ֤ה אֵ֣ין לְאִיּ֣וֹב מוֹכִ֑יחַ עוֹנֶ֖ה אֲמָרָ֣יו מִכֶּֽם׃Jb 32:12
Yes, I gave you my full attention,
but there was no one who convinced Job,
or who answered his words, among you.
13Jb 32:1313ἵνα μὴ εἴπητε εὕρομεν σοφίαν κυρίῳ προσθέμενοιJb 32:13
lest ye should say, We have found that we have added wisdom to the Lord.

Beware lest you say, ‘We have found wisdom,
God may refute him, not man;’
Jb 32:13Jb 32:13פֶּן־תֹּ֣֭אמְרוּ מָצָ֣אנוּ חָכְמָ֑ה אֵ֖ל יִדְּפֶ֣נּוּ לֹא־אִֽישׁ׃Jb 32:13
Beware lest you say, ‘We have found wisdom,
God may refute him, not man;’
14Jb 32:1414ἀνθρώπῳ δὲ ἐπετρέψατε λαλῆσαι τοιαῦτα ῥήματαJb 32:14
And ye have commissioned a man to speak such words.
Jb 32:14
for he has not directed his words against me;
neither will I answer him with your speeches.
Jb 32:14Jb 32:14וְלֹא־עָרַ֣ךְ אֵלַ֣י מִלִּ֑ין וּ֝בְאִמְרֵיכֶ֗ם לֹ֣א אֲשִׁיבֶֽנּוּ׃Jb 32:14
for he has not directed his words against me;
neither will I answer him with your speeches.
15Jb 32:1515ἐπτοήθησαν οὐκ ἀπεκρίθησαν ἔτι ἐπαλαίωσαν ἐξ αὐτῶν λόγουςJb 32:15
They were afraid, they answered no longer; they gave up their speaking.

“They are amazed. They answer no more.
They don’t have a word to say.

I waited, (for I had not spoken,)because they stood still, they answered not.

Shall I wait, because they don’t speak,
because they stand still, and answer no more?
Jb 32:16Jb 32:16וְ֭הוֹחַלְתִּי כִּי־לֹ֣א יְדַבֵּ֑רוּ כִּ֥י עָ֝מְד֗וּ לֹא־עָ֥נוּ עֽוֹד׃Jb 32:16
Shall I wait, because they don’t speak,
because they stand still, and answer no more?
17Jb 32:1717ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ελιους λέγειJb 32:17
And Elius continued, and said, I will again speak,

I also will answer my part,
and I also will show my opinion.

18Jb 32:1818πάλιν λαλήσω πλήρης γάρ εἰμι ῥημάτων ὀλέκει γάρ με τὸ πνεῦμα τῆς γαστρόςJb 32:18
for I am full of words, for the spirit of my belly destroys me.

19Jb 32:1919ἡ δὲ γαστήρ μου ὥσπερ ἀσκὸς γλεύκους ζέων δεδεμένος ἢ ὥσπερ φυσητὴρ χαλκέως ἐρρηγώςJb 32:19
And my belly is as a skin of sweet wine, bound up and ready to burst; or as a brazier's labouring bellows.
Jb 32:19
Behold, my breast is as wine which has no vent;
like new wineskins it is ready to burst.

like new wineskins it is ready to burst.

I will speak, that I may open my lips and relieve myself.

I will speak, that I may be refreshed.
I will open my lips and answer.
21Jb 32:2121ἄνθρωπον γὰρ οὐ μὴ αἰσχυνθῶ ἀλλὰ μὴν οὐδὲ βροτὸν οὐ μὴ ἐντραπῶJb 32:21
For truly I will not be awed because of man, nor indeed will I be confounded before a mortal.

Please don’t let me respect any man’s person,
neither will I give flattering titles to any man.
