2Jb 29:22τίς ἄν με θείη κατὰ μῆνα ἔμπροσθεν ἡμερῶν ὧν με ὁ θεὸς ἐφύλαξενJb 29:2
Oh that I were as in months past, wherein God preserved me!

“Oh that I were as in the months of old,
as in the days when God watched over me;

“Oh that I were as in the months of old,

3Jb 29:33ὡς ὅτε ηὔγει ὁ λύχνος αὐτοῦ ὑπὲρ κεφαλῆς μου ὅτε τῷ φωτὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπορευόμην ἐν σκότειJb 29:3
As when his lamp shone over my head; when by his light I walked through darkness.

As when I steadfastly pursued my ways, when God took care of my house.

when the friendship of God was in my tent,

as I was in the ripeness of my days,
when the friendship of God was in my tent,
5Jb 29:55ὅτε ἤμην ὑλώδης λίαν κύκλῳ δέ μου οἱ παῖδεςJb 29:5
When I was very fruitful, and my children were about me;

when the Almighty was yet with me,
and my children were around me,

6Jb 29:66ὅτε ἐχέοντό μου αἱ ὁδοὶ βουτύρῳ τὰ δὲ ὄρη μου ἐχέοντο γάλακτιJb 29:6
when my ways were moistened with butter, and the mountains flowed for me with milk.

7Jb 29:77ὅτε ἐξεπορευόμην ὄρθριος ἐν πόλει ἐν δὲ πλατείαις ἐτίθετό μου ὁ δίφροςJb 29:7
When I went forth early in the city, and the seat was placed for me in the streets.

8Jb 29:88ἰδόντες με νεανίσκοι ἐκρύβησαν πρεσβῦται δὲ πάντες ἔστησανJb 29:8
The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and all the old men stood up.

And the great men ceased speaking, and laid their finger on their mouth.

10Jb 29:1010οἱ δὲ ἀκούσαντες ἐμακάρισάν με καὶ γλῶσσα αὐτῶν τῷ λάρυγγι αὐτῶν ἐκολλήθηJb 29:10
And they that heard me blessed me, and their tongue clave to their throat.

The voice of the nobles was hushed,
and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.
Jb 29:10Jb 29:10קוֹל־נְגִידִ֥ים נֶחְבָּ֑אוּ וּ֝לְשׁוֹנָ֗ם לְחִכָּ֥ם דָּבֵֽקָה׃Jb 29:10

12Jb 29:1212διέσωσα γὰρ πτωχὸν ἐκ χειρὸς δυνάστου καὶ ὀρφανῷ ᾧ οὐκ ἦν βοηθός ἐβοήθησαJb 29:12
For I saved the poor out of the hand of the oppressor, and helped the fatherless who had no helper.

Because I delivered the poor who cried,
and the fatherless also, who had none to help him,

13Jb 29:1313εὐλογία ἀπολλυμένου ἐπ’ ἐμὲ ἔλθοι στόμα δὲ χήρας με εὐλόγησενJb 29:13
Let the blessing of the perishing one come upon me; yea, the mouth of the widow has blessed me.

Also I put on righteousness, and clothed myself with judgment like a mantle.

I was the eye of the blind, and the foot of the lame.

16Jb 29:1616ἐγὼ ἤμην πατὴρ ἀδυνάτων δίκην δέ ἣν οὐκ ᾔδειν ἐξιχνίασαJb 29:16
I was the father of the helpless; and I searched out the cause which I knew not.

I was a father to the needy.
The cause of him who I didn’t know, I searched out.

17Jb 29:1717συνέτριψα δὲ μύλας ἀδίκων ἐκ δὲ μέσου τῶν ὀδόντων αὐτῶν ἅρπαγμα ἐξέσπασαJb 29:17
And I broke the jaw-teeth of the unrighteous; I plucked the spoil out of the midst of their teeth.

18Jb 29:1818εἶπα δέ ἡ ἡλικία μου γηράσει ὥσπερ στέλεχος φοίνικος πολὺν χρόνον βιώσωJb 29:18
And I said, My age shall continue as the stem of a palm-tree; I shall live a long while.

Then I said, ‘I shall die in my own house,
I shall number my days as the sand.
Jb 29:18Jb 29:18וָ֭אֹמַר עִם־קִנִּ֣י אֶגְוָ֑ע וְ֝כַח֗וֹל אַרְבֶּ֥ה יָמִֽים׃Jb 29:18
Then I said, ‘I shall die in my own house,
I shall number my days as the sand.
19Jb 29:1919ἡ ῥίζα μου διήνοικται ἐπὶ ὕδατος καὶ δρόσος αὐλισθήσεται ἐν τῷ θερισμῷ μουJb 29:19
My root was spread out by the water, and the dew would lodge on my crop.
Jb 29:19
My root is spread out to the waters.
The dew lies all night on my branch.
Jb 29:19Jb 29:19שָׁרְשִׁ֣י פָת֣וּחַ אֱלֵי־מָ֑יִם וְ֝טַ֗ל יָלִ֥ין בִּקְצִירִֽי׃Jb 29:19
My root is spread out to the waters.
The dew lies all night on my branch.
20Jb 29:2020ἡ δόξα μου καινὴ μετ’ ἐμοῦ καὶ τὸ τόξον μου ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ πορεύσεταιJb 29:20
My glory was fresh in me, and by bow prospered in his hand.

Men heard me, and gave heed, and they were silent at my counsel.

and kept silence for my counsel.

At my word they spoke not again, and they were very gland whenever I spoke to them.

As the thirsty earth expecting the rain, so they waited for my speech.

Their mouths drank as with the spring rain.

Were I to laugh on them, they would not believe it; and the light of my face has not failed.

I smiled on them when they had no confidence.

I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the midst of warriors, as one comforting mourners.
