“Why aren’t times laid up by the Almighty?
Why don’t those who know him see his days?

“Why aren’t times laid up by the Almighty?
Why don’t those who know him see his days?
2Jb 24:22ἀσεβεῖς δὲ ὅριον ὑπερέβησαν ποίμνιον σὺν ποιμένι ἁρπάσαντεςJb 24:2
while the ungodly have passed over the bound, carrying off the flock with the shepherd?

They violently take away flocks, and feed them.

3Jb 24:33ὑποζύγιον ὀρφανῶν ἀπήγαγον καὶ βοῦν χήρας ἠνεχύρασανJb 24:3
They have led away, the ass of the fatherless, and taken the widow's ox for a pledge.

4Jb 24:44ἐξέκλιναν ἀδυνάτους ἐξ ὁδοῦ δικαίας ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἐκρύβησαν πραεῖς γῆςJb 24:4
They have turned aside the weak from the right way: and the meek of the earth have hidden themselves together.

5Jb 24:55ἀπέβησαν δὲ ὥσπερ ὄνοι ἐν ἀγρῷ ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ ἐξελθόντες τὴν ἑαυτῶν πρᾶξιν ἡδύνθη αὐτῷ ἄρτος εἰς νεωτέρουςJb 24:5
And they have departed like asses in the field, having gone forth on my account according to their own order: his bread is sweet to his little ones.

Behold, as wild donkeys in the desert,

Behold, as wild donkeys in the desert,

6Jb 24:66ἀγρὸν πρὸ ὥρας οὐκ αὐτῶν ὄντα ἐθέρισαν ἀδύνατοι δὲ ἀμπελῶνας ἀσεβῶν ἀμισθὶ καὶ ἀσιτὶ ἠργάσαντοJb 24:6
They have reaped a field that was not their own before the time: the poor have laboured in the vineyards of the ungodly without pay and without food.

They cut their provender in the field.
They glean the vineyard of the wicked.

Jb 24:6
They cut their provender in the field.
They glean the vineyard of the wicked.
7Jb 24:77γυμνοὺς πολλοὺς ἐκοίμισαν ἄνευ ἱματίων ἀμφίασιν δὲ ψυχῆς αὐτῶν ἀφείλαντοJb 24:7
They have caused many naked to sleep without clothes, and they have taken away the covering of their body.

They lie all night naked without clothing,
and have no covering in the cold.
Jb 24:7Jb 24:7עָר֣וֹם יָ֭לִינוּ מִבְּלִ֣י לְב֑וּשׁ וְאֵ֥ין כְּ֝ס֗וּת בַּקָּרָֽה׃Jb 24:7
They lie all night naked without clothing,
and have no covering in the cold.
8Jb 24:88ἀπὸ ψεκάδων ὀρέων ὑγραίνονται παρὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν αὐτοὺς σκέπην πέτραν περιεβάλοντοJb 24:8
They are wet with the drops of the mountains: they have embraced the rock, because they had no shelter.

They are wet with the showers of the mountains,
and embrace the rock for lack of a shelter.
Jb 24:8Jb 24:8מִזֶּ֣רֶם הָרִ֣ים יִרְטָ֑בוּ וּֽמִבְּלִ֥י מַ֝חְסֶ֗ה חִבְּקוּ־צֽוּר׃Jb 24:8
They are wet with the showers of the mountains,
and embrace the rock for lack of a shelter.
9Jb 24:99ἥρπασαν ὀρφανὸν ἀπὸ μαστοῦ ἐκπεπτωκότα δὲ ἐταπείνωσανJb 24:9
They have snatched the fatherless from the breast, and have afflicted the outcast.

There are those who pluck the fatherless from the breast,
and take a pledge of the poor,

There are those who pluck the fatherless from the breast,

10Jb 24:1010γυμνοὺς δὲ ἐκοίμισαν ἀδίκως πεινώντων δὲ τὸν ψωμὸν ἀφείλαντοJb 24:10
And they have wrongfully caused others to sleep without clothing, and taken away the morsel of the hungry.

They have unrighteously laid wait in narrow places, and have not known the righteous way.

They tread wine presses, and suffer thirst.

12Jb 24:1212οἳ ἐκ πόλεως καὶ οἴκων ἰδίων ἐξεβάλλοντο ψυχὴ δὲ νηπίων ἐστέναξεν μέγα αὐτὸς δὲ διὰ τί τούτων ἐπισκοπὴν οὐ πεποίηταιJb 24:12
Who have cast forth the poor from the city and their own houses, and the soul of the children has groaned aloud.
Jb 24:12
From out of the populous city, men groan.
The soul of the wounded cries out,
yet God doesn’t regard the folly.
Jb 24:12Jb 24:12מֵ֘עִ֤יר מְתִ֨ים ׀ יִנְאָ֗קוּ וְנֶֽפֶשׁ־חֲלָלִ֥ים תְּשַׁוֵּ֑עַ וֶ֝אֱל֗וֹהַּ לֹא־יָשִׂ֥ים תִּפְלָֽה׃Jb 24:12
From out of the populous city, men groan.
The soul of the wounded cries out,
yet God doesn’t regard the folly.
13Jb 24:1313ἐπὶ γῆς ὄντων αὐτῶν καὶ οὐκ ἐπέγνωσαν ὁδὸν δὲ δικαιοσύνης οὐκ ᾔδεισαν οὐδὲ ἀτραποὺς αὐτῆς ἐπορεύθησανJb 24:13
Why then has he not visited these? forasmuch as they were upon the earth, and took no notice, and they knew not the way of righteousness, neither have they walked in their appointed paths?

“These are of those who rebel against the light.
They don’t know its ways,
nor stay in its paths.
Jb 24:13Jb 24:13הֵ֤מָּה ׀ הָיוּ֮ בְּֽמֹרְדֵ֫י־א֥וֹר לֹֽא־הִכִּ֥ירוּ דְרָכָ֑יו וְלֹ֥א יָ֝שְׁב֗וּ בִּנְתִיבֹתָֽיו׃Jb 24:13
“These are of those who rebel against the light.
They don’t know its ways,
nor stay in its paths.
14Jb 24:1414γνοὺς δὲ αὐτῶν τὰ ἔργα παρέδωκεν αὐτοὺς εἰς σκότος καὶ νυκτὸς ἔσται ὡς κλέπτηςJb 24:14
But having known their works, he delivered them into darkness: and in the night one will be as a thief:

The murderer rises with the light.

In the night he is like a thief.

The murderer rises with the light.

15Jb 24:1515καὶ ὀφθαλμὸς μοιχοῦ ἐφύλαξεν σκότος λέγων οὐ προσνοήσει με ὀφθαλμός καὶ ἀποκρυβὴν προσώπου ἔθετοJb 24:15
and the eye of the adulterer has watched for the darkness, saying, Eye shall not perceive me, and he puts a covering on his face.

The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight,
saying, ‘No eye shall see me.’
He disguises his face.
Jb 24:15Jb 24:15וְעֵ֤ין נֹאֵ֨ף ׀ שָׁ֤מְרָֽה נֶ֣שֶׁף לֵ֭אמֹר לֹא־תְשׁוּרֵ֣נִי עָ֑יִן וְסֵ֖תֶר פָּנִ֣ים יָשִֽׂים׃Jb 24:15
The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight,
saying, ‘No eye shall see me.’
He disguises his face.
16Jb 24:1616διώρυξεν ἐν σκότει οἰκίας ἡμέρας ἐσφράγισαν ἑαυτούς οὐκ ἐπέγνωσαν φῶςJb 24:16
In darkness he digs through houses: by day they conceal themselves securely: they know not the light.

In the dark they dig through houses.
They shut themselves up in the daytime.
They don’t know the light.
Jb 24:16Jb 24:16חָתַ֥ר בַּחֹ֗שֶׁךְ בָּ֫תִּ֥ים יוֹמָ֥ם חִתְּמוּ־לָ֗מוֹ לֹא־יָ֥דְעוּ אֽוֹר׃Jb 24:16
In the dark they dig through houses.

17Jb 24:1717ὅτι ὁμοθυμαδὸν τὸ πρωὶ αὐτοῖς σκιὰ θανάτου ὅτι ἐπιγνώσεται ταραχὰς σκιᾶς θανάτουJb 24:17
For the morning is to them all as the shadow of death, for each will be conscious of the terror of the shadow of death.
Jb 24:17
For the morning is to all of them like thick darkness,
for they know the terrors of the thick darkness.
Jb 24:17Jb 24:17כִּ֤י יַחְדָּ֨ו ׀ בֹּ֣קֶר לָ֣מוֹ צַלְמָ֑וֶת כִּֽי־יַ֝כִּ֗יר בַּלְה֥וֹת צַלְמָֽוֶת׃Jb 24:17
For the morning is to all of them like thick darkness,
for they know the terrors of the thick darkness.
18Jb 24:1818ἐλαφρός ἐστιν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ὕδατος καταραθείη ἡ μερὶς αὐτῶν ἐπὶ γῆςJb 24:18
He is swift on the face of the water: let his portion be cursed on the earth; and let their plants be laid bare.
Jb 24:18
“They are foam on the surface of the waters.
Their portion is cursed in the earth.
They don’t turn into the way of the vineyards.
Jb 24:18Jb 24:18קַֽל־ה֤וּא ׀ עַל־פְּנֵי־מַ֗יִם תְּקֻלַּ֣ל חֶלְקָתָ֣ם בָּאָ֑רֶץ לֹֽא־יִ֝פְנֶה דֶּ֣רֶךְ כְּרָמִֽים׃Jb 24:18
“They are foam on the surface of the waters.
Their portion is cursed in the earth.
They don’t turn into the way of the vineyards.
19Jb 24:1919ἀναφανείη δὲ τὰ φυτὰ αὐτῶν ἐπὶ γῆς ξηρά ἀγκαλίδα γὰρ ὀρφανῶν ἥρπασανJb 24:19
Let them be withered upon the earth; for they have plundered the sheaves of the fatherless.

Drought and heat consume the snow waters,
so does Sheol those who have sinned.
Jb 24:19Jb 24:19צִיָּ֤ה גַם־חֹ֗ם יִגְזְל֥וּ מֵֽימֵי־שֶׁ֗לֶג שְׁא֣וֹל חָטָֽאוּ׃Jb 24:19
Drought and heat consume the snow waters,

20Jb 24:2020εἶτ’ ἀνεμνήσθη αὐτοῦ ἡ ἁμαρτία ὥσπερ δὲ ὁμίχλη δρόσου ἀφανὴς ἐγένετο ἀποδοθείη δὲ αὐτῷ ἃ ἔπραξεν συντριβείη δὲ πᾶς ἄδικος ἴσα ξύλῳ ἀνιάτῳJb 24:20
Then is his sin brought to remembrance, and he vanishes like a vapour of dew: but let what he has done be recompensed to him, and let every unrighteous one be crushed like rotten wood.

The womb shall forget him.
The worm shall feed sweetly on him.
He shall be no more remembered.
Unrighteousness shall be broken as a tree.

And in wrath he has overthrown the helpless: therefore when he has arisen, a man will not feel secure of his own life.

Yet God preserves the mighty by his power.
He rises up who has no assurance of life.
Jb 24:22Jb 24:22וּמָשַׁ֣ךְ אַבִּירִ֣ים בְּכֹח֑וֹ יָ֝ק֗וּם וְֽלֹא־יַאֲמִ֥ין בַּֽחַיִּֽין׃Jb 24:22
Yet God preserves the mighty by his power.
He rises up who has no assurance of life.
23Jb 24:2323μαλακισθεὶς μὴ ἐλπιζέτω ὑγιασθῆναι ἀλλὰ πεσεῖται νόσῳJb 24:23
When he has fallen sick, let him not hope to recover: but let him perish by disease.
Jb 24:23
God gives them security, and they rest in it.
His eyes are on their ways.
Jb 24:23Jb 24:23יִתֶּן־ל֣וֹ לָ֭בֶטַח וְיִשָּׁעֵ֑ן וְ֝עֵינֵ֗יהוּ עַל־דַּרְכֵיהֶֽם׃Jb 24:23

24Jb 24:2424πολλοὺς γὰρ ἐκάκωσεν τὸ ὕψωμα αὐτοῦ ἐμαράνθη δὲ ὥσπερ μολόχη ἐν καύματι ἢ ὥσπερ στάχυς ἀπὸ καλάμης αὐτόματος ἀποπεσώνJb 24:24
For his exaltation has hurt many; but he has withered as mallows in the heat, or as an ear of corn falling off of itself from the stalk.
Jb 24:24
They are exalted; yet a little while, and they are gone.
Yes, they are brought low, they are taken out of the way as all others,
and are cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.
Jb 24:24Jb 24:24ר֤וֹמּוּ מְּעַ֨ט ׀ וְֽאֵינֶ֗נּוּ וְֽהֻמְּכ֗וּ כַּכֹּ֥ל יִקָּפְצ֑וּן וּכְרֹ֖אשׁ שִׁבֹּ֣לֶת יִמָּֽלוּ׃Jb 24:24
They are exalted; yet a little while, and they are gone.
Yes, they are brought low, they are taken out of the way as all others,
and are cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.
25Jb 24:2525εἰ δὲ μή τίς ἐστιν ὁ φάμενος ψευδῆ με λέγειν καὶ θήσει εἰς οὐδὲν τὰ ῥήματά μουJb 24:25
But if not, who is he that says I speak falsely, and will make my words of no account?
Jb 24:25
If it isn’t so now, who will prove me a liar,
and make my speech worth nothing?”
Jb 24:25Jb 24:25וְאִם־לֹ֣א אֵ֭פוֹ מִ֣י יַכְזִיבֵ֑נִי וְיָשֵׂ֥ם לְ֝אַ֗ל מִלָּתִֽי׃ ס Jb 24:25
If it isn’t so now, who will prove me a liar,
and make my speech worth nothing?”
