Jb 18:1Jb 18:1וַ֭יַּעַן בִּלְדַּ֥ד הַשֻּׁחִ֗י וַיֹּאמַֽר׃Jb 18:1
¶Then Bildad the Shuhite answered,
2Jb 18:22μέχρι τίνος οὐ παύσῃ ἐπίσχες ἵνα καὶ αὐτοὶ λαλήσωμενJb 18:2
How long wilt thou continue? forbear, that we also may speak.

“How long will you hunt for words?
Consider, and afterwards we will speak.
Jb 18:2Jb 18:2עַד־אָ֤נָה ׀ תְּשִׂימ֣וּן קִנְצֵ֣י לְמִלִּ֑ין תָּ֝בִ֗ינוּ וְאַחַ֥ר נְדַבֵּֽר׃Jb 18:2
“How long will you hunt for words?
Consider, and afterwards we will speak.
3Jb 18:33διὰ τί ὥσπερ τετράποδα σεσιωπήκαμεν ἐναντίον σουJb 18:3
For wherefore have we been silent before thee like brutes?

Why are we counted as animals,
which have become unclean in your sight?
Jb 18:3Jb 18:3מַ֭דּוּעַ נֶחְשַׁ֣בְנוּ כַבְּהֵמָ֑ה נִ֝טְמִ֗ינוּ בְּעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃Jb 18:3
Why are we counted as animals,

4Jb 18:44κέχρηταί σοι ὀργή τί γάρ ἐὰν σὺ ἀποθάνῃς ἀοίκητος ἡ ὑπ’ οὐρανόν ἢ καταστραφήσεται ὄρη ἐκ θεμελίωνJb 18:4
Anger has possessed thee: for what if thou shouldest die; would the earth under heaven be desolate? or shall the mountains be overthrown from their foundations?
Jb 18:4
You who tear yourself in your anger,
shall the earth be forsaken for you?
Or shall the rock be removed out of its place?
Jb 18:4Jb 18:4טֹֽרֵ֥ף נַפְשׁ֗וֹ בְּאַ֫פּ֥וֹ הַ֭לְמַעַנְךָ תֵּעָ֣זַב אָ֑רֶץ וְיֶעְתַּק־צ֝֗וּר מִמְּקֹמֽוֹ׃Jb 18:4
You who tear yourself in your anger,
shall the earth be forsaken for you?
Or shall the rock be removed out of its place?
5Jb 18:55καὶ φῶς ἀσεβῶν σβεσθήσεται καὶ οὐκ ἀποβήσεται αὐτῶν ἡ φλόξJb 18:5
But the light of the ungodly shall be quenched, and their flame shall not go up.

“Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out,
The spark of his fire shall not shine.
Jb 18:5Jb 18:5גַּ֤ם א֣וֹר רְשָׁעִ֣ים יִדְעָ֑ךְ וְלֹֽא־יִ֝גַּ֗הּ שְׁבִ֣יב אִשּֽׁוֹ׃Jb 18:5
“Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out,
The spark of his fire shall not shine.
6Jb 18:66τὸ φῶς αὐτοῦ σκότος ἐν διαίτῃ ὁ δὲ λύχνος ἐπ’ αὐτῷ σβεσθήσεταιJb 18:6
His light shall be darkness in his habitation, and his lamp shall be put out with him.

The light shall be dark in his tent.
His lamp above him shall be put out.
Jb 18:6Jb 18:6א֭וֹר חָשַׁ֣ךְ בְּאָהֳל֑וֹ וְ֝נֵר֗וֹ עָלָ֥יו יִדְעָֽךְ׃Jb 18:6
The light shall be dark in his tent.
His lamp above him shall be put out.
7Jb 18:77θηρεύσαισαν ἐλάχιστοι τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτοῦ σφάλαι δὲ αὐτοῦ ἡ βουλήJb 18:7
Let the meanest of men spoil his goods, and let his counsel deceive him.

The steps of his strength shall be shortened.
His own counsel shall cast him down.
Jb 18:7Jb 18:7יֵֽ֭צְרוּ צַעֲדֵ֣י אוֹנ֑וֹ וְֽתַשְׁלִיכֵ֥הוּ עֲצָתֽוֹ׃Jb 18:7
The steps of his strength shall be shortened.
His own counsel shall cast him down.
8Jb 18:88ἐμβέβληται δὲ ὁ ποὺς αὐτοῦ ἐν παγίδι ἐν δικτύῳ ἑλιχθείηJb 18:8
His foot also has been caught in a snare, and let it be entangled in a net.

For he is cast into a net by his own feet,
and he wanders into its mesh.
Jb 18:8Jb 18:8כִּֽי־שֻׁלַּ֣ח בְּרֶ֣שֶׁת בְּרַגְלָ֑יו וְעַל־שְׂ֝בָכָ֗ה יִתְהַלָּֽךְ׃Jb 18:8
For he is cast into a net by his own feet,
and he wanders into its mesh.
9Jb 18:99ἔλθοισαν δὲ ἐπ’ αὐτὸν παγίδες κατισχύσει ἐπ’ αὐτὸν διψῶνταςJb 18:9
And let snares come upon him: he shall strengthen those that thirst for his destruction.

A trap will catch him.

10Jb 18:1010κέκρυπται ἐν τῇ γῇ σχοινίον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ σύλλημψις αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τρίβωνJb 18:10
His snare is hid in the earth, and that which shall take him is by the path.

a trap for him in the way.
Jb 18:10Jb 18:10טָמ֣וּן בָּאָ֣רֶץ חַבְל֑וֹ וּ֝מַלְכֻּדְתּ֗וֹ עֲלֵ֣י נָתִֽיב׃Jb 18:10

Let pains destroy him round about, and let many enemies come about him,

Terrors shall make him afraid on every side,
and shall chase him at his heels.

vex him with distressing hunger: and a signal destruction has been prepared for him.

Jb 18:12Jb 18:12יְהִי־רָעֵ֥ב אֹנ֑וֹ וְ֝אֵ֗יד נָכ֥וֹן לְצַלְעֽוֹ׃Jb 18:12

13Jb 18:1313βρωθείησαν αὐτοῦ κλῶνες ποδῶν κατέδεται δὲ τὰ ὡραῖα αὐτοῦ θάνατοςJb 18:13
Let the soles of his feet be devoured: and death shall consume his beauty.

The members of his body shall be devoured.
The firstborn of death shall devour his members.
Jb 18:13Jb 18:13יֹ֭אכַל בַּדֵּ֣י עוֹר֑וֹ יֹאכַ֥ל בַּ֝דָּ֗יו בְּכ֣וֹר מָֽוֶת׃Jb 18:13

14Jb 18:1414ἐκραγείη δὲ ἐκ διαίτης αὐτοῦ ἴασις σχοίη δὲ αὐτὸν ἀνάγκη αἰτίᾳ βασιλικῇJb 18:14
And let health be utterly banished from his tabernacle, and let distress seize upon him with a charge from the king.

He shall be rooted out of his tent where he trusts.
He shall be brought to the king of terrors.

15Jb 18:1515κατασκηνώσει ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ αὐτοῦ ἐν νυκτὶ αὐτοῦ κατασπαρήσονται τὰ εὐπρεπῆ αὐτοῦ θείῳJb 18:15
It shall dwell in his tabernacle in his night: his excellency shall be sown with brimstone.

17Jb 18:1717τὸ μνημόσυνον αὐτοῦ ἀπόλοιτο ἐκ γῆς καὶ ὑπάρχει ὄνομα αὐτῷ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἐξωτέρωJb 18:17
Let his memorial perish out of the earth, and his name shall be publicly cast out.
Jb 18:17
His memory shall perish from the earth.
He shall have no name in the street.
Jb 18:17Jb 18:17זִֽכְרוֹ־אָ֭בַד מִנִּי־אָ֑רֶץ וְלֹא־שֵׁ֥ם ל֝֗וֹ עַל־פְּנֵי־חֽוּץ׃Jb 18:17

He shall have no name in the street.
18Jb 18:1818ἀπώσειεν αὐτὸν ἐκ φωτὸς εἰς σκότοςJb 18:18
Let one drive him from light into darkness.
Jb 18:18
He shall be driven from light into darkness,
and chased out of the world.
Jb 18:18Jb 18:18יֶ֭הְדְּפֻהוּ מֵא֣וֹר אֶל־חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וּֽמִתֵּבֵ֥ל יְנִדֻּֽהוּ׃Jb 18:18

19Jb 18:1919οὐκ ἔσται ἐπίγνωστος ἐν λαῷ αὐτοῦ οὐδὲ σεσῳσμένος ἐν τῇ ὑπ’ οὐρανὸν ὁ οἶκος αὐτοῦ ἀλλ’ ἐν τοῖς αὐτοῦ ζήσονται ἕτεροιJb 18:19
He shall not be known among his people, nor his house preserved on the earth.

He shall have neither son nor grandson among his people,
nor any remaining where he lived.

He shall have neither son nor grandson among his people,
nor any remaining where he lived.
20Jb 18:2020ἐπ’ αὐτῷ ἐστέναξαν ἔσχατοι πρώτους δὲ ἔσχεν θαῦμαJb 18:20
But strangers shall dwell in his possessions: the last groaned for him, and wonder seized the first.

Those who come after shall be astonished at his day,
as those who went before were frightened.
Jb 18:20Jb 18:20עַל־י֭וֹמוֹ נָשַׁ֣מּוּ אַחֲרֹנִ֑ים וְ֝קַדְמֹנִ֗ים אָ֣חֲזוּ שָֽׂעַר׃Jb 18:20
Those who come after shall be astonished at his day,

21Jb 18:2121οὗτοί εἰσιν οἶκοι ἀδίκων οὗτος δὲ ὁ τόπος τῶν μὴ εἰδότων τὸν κύριονJb 18:21
These are the houses of the unrighteous, and this is the place of them that know not the Lord.
Jb 18:21
Surely such are the dwellings of the unrighteous.
This is the place of him who doesn’t know God.”
