Behold, mine eye has seen these things, and mine ear has heard them.

“Behold, my eye has seen all this.
My ear has heard and understood it.
Jb 13:1Jb 13:1הֶן־כֹּ֭ל רָאֲתָ֣ה עֵינִ֑י שָֽׁמְעָ֥ה אָ֝זְנִ֗י וַתָּ֥בֶן לָֽהּ׃Jb 13:1
“Behold, my eye has seen all this.
My ear has heard and understood it.
2Jb 13:22καὶ οἶδα ὅσα καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐπίστασθε καὶ οὐκ ἀσυνετώτερός εἰμι ὑμῶνJb 13:2
And I know all that ye too know; and I have not less understanding than you.

What you know, I know also.
I am not inferior to you.
Jb 13:2Jb 13:2כְּֽ֭דַעְתְּכֶם יָדַ֣עְתִּי גַם־אָ֑נִי לֹא־נֹפֵ֖ל אָנֹכִ֣י מִכֶּֽם׃Jb 13:2
What you know, I know also.
I am not inferior to you.
3Jb 13:33οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλ’ ἐγὼ πρὸς κύριον λαλήσω ἐλέγξω δὲ ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ ἐὰν βούληταιJb 13:3
Nevertheless I will speak to the Lord, and I will reason before him, if he will.

“Surely I would speak to the Almighty.
I desire to reason with God.
Jb 13:3Jb 13:3אוּלָ֗ם אֲ֭נִי אֶל־שַׁדַּ֣י אֲדַבֵּ֑ר וְהוֹכֵ֖חַ אֶל־אֵ֣ל אֶחְפָּֽץ׃Jb 13:3
“Surely I would speak to the Almighty.
I desire to reason with God.
4Jb 13:44ὑμεῖς δέ ἐστε ἰατροὶ ἄδικοι καὶ ἰαταὶ κακῶν πάντεςJb 13:4
But ye are all bad physicians, and healers of diseases.
Jb 13:4
But you are forgers of lies.
You are all physicians of no value.
Jb 13:4Jb 13:4וְֽאוּלָ֗ם אַתֶּ֥ם טֹֽפְלֵי־שָׁ֑קֶר רֹפְאֵ֖י אֱלִ֣ל כֻּלְּכֶֽם׃Jb 13:4
But you are forgers of lies.
You are all physicians of no value.
5Jb 13:55εἴη δὲ ὑμῖν κωφεῦσαι καὶ ἀποβήσεται ὑμῖν εἰς σοφίανJb 13:5
But would that ye were silent, and it would be wisdom to you in the end.
Jb 13:5
Oh that you would be completely silent!
Then you would be wise.
Jb 13:5Jb 13:5מִֽי־יִ֭תֵּן הַחֲרֵ֣שׁ תַּחֲרִישׁ֑וּן וּתְהִ֖י לָכֶ֣ם לְחָכְמָֽה׃Jb 13:5
Oh that you would be completely silent!
Then you would be wise.
6Jb 13:66ἀκούσατε ἔλεγχον στόματός μου κρίσιν δὲ χειλέων μου προσέχετεJb 13:6
But hear ye the reasoning of my mouth, and attend to the judgment of my lips.
Jb 13:6
Hear now my reasoning.
Listen to the pleadings of my lips.
Jb 13:6Jb 13:6שִׁמְעוּ־נָ֥א תוֹכַחְתִּ֑י וְרִב֖וֹת שְׂפָתַ֣י הַקְשִֽׁיבוּ׃Jb 13:6
Hear now my reasoning.
Listen to the pleadings of my lips.
7Jb 13:77πότερον οὐκ ἔναντι κυρίου λαλεῖτε ἔναντι δὲ αὐτοῦ φθέγγεσθε δόλονJb 13:7
Do ye not speak before the Lord, and utter deceit before him?
Jb 13:7
Will you speak unrighteously for God,
and talk deceitfully for him?
Jb 13:7Jb 13:7הַ֭לְאֵל תְּדַבְּר֣וּ עַוְלָ֑ה וְ֝ל֗וֹ תְּֽדַבְּר֥וּ רְמִיָּֽה׃Jb 13:7
Will you speak unrighteously for God,
and talk deceitfully for him?
8Jb 13:88ἦ ὑποστελεῖσθε ὑμεῖς δὲ αὐτοὶ κριταὶ γένεσθεJb 13:8
Or will ye draw back? nay do, ye yourselves be judges.
Jb 13:8
Will you show partiality to him?
Will you contend for God?
Jb 13:8Jb 13:8הֲפָנָ֥יו תִּשָּׂא֑וּן אִם־לָאֵ֥ל תְּרִיבֽוּן׃Jb 13:8

9Jb 13:99καλόν γε ἐὰν ἐξιχνιάσῃ ὑμᾶς εἰ γὰρ τὰ πάντα ποιοῦντες προστεθήσεσθε αὐτῷJb 13:9
For it were well if he would thoroughly search you: for though doing all things in your power ye should attach yourselves to him,

Is it good that he should search you out?
Or as one deceives a man, will you deceive him?
Jb 13:9Jb 13:9הֲ֭טוֹב כִּֽי־יַחְקֹ֣ר אֶתְכֶ֑ם אִם־כְּהָתֵ֥ל בֶּ֝אֱנ֗וֹשׁ תְּהָתֵ֥לּוּ בֽוֹ׃Jb 13:9
Is it good that he should search you out?
Or as one deceives a man, will you deceive him?
10Jb 13:1010οὐθὲν ἧττον ἐλέγξει ὑμᾶς εἰ δὲ καὶ κρυφῇ πρόσωπα θαυμάσετεJb 13:10
he will not reprove you at all the less: but if moreover ye should secretly respect persons,

He will surely reprove you
if you secretly show partiality.
Jb 13:10Jb 13:10הוֹכֵ֣חַ יוֹכִ֣יחַ אֶתְכֶ֑ם אִם־בַּ֝סֵּ֗תֶר פָּנִ֥ים תִּשָּׂאֽוּן׃Jb 13:10
He will surely reprove you
if you secretly show partiality.
11Jb 13:1111πότερον οὐχὶ δεινὰ αὐτοῦ στροβήσει ὑμᾶς φόβος δὲ παρ’ αὐτοῦ ἐπιπεσεῖται ὑμῖνJb 13:11
shall not his whirlpool sweep you round, and terror from him fall upon you?
Jb 13:11
Shall not his majesty make you afraid,
And his dread fall on you?
Jb 13:11Jb 13:11הֲלֹ֣א שְׂ֭אֵתוֹ תְּבַעֵ֣ת אֶתְכֶ֑ם וּ֝פַחְדּ֗וֹ יִפֹּ֥ל עֲלֵיכֶֽם׃Jb 13:11
Shall not his majesty make you afraid,
And his dread fall on you?
12Jb 13:1212ἀποβήσεται δὲ ὑμῶν τὸ ἀγαυρίαμα ἴσα σποδῷ τὸ δὲ σῶμα πήλινονJb 13:12
And your glorying shall prove in the end to you like ashes, and your body like a body of clay.

13Jb 13:1313κωφεύσατε ἵνα λαλήσω καὶ ἀναπαύσωμαι θυμοῦJb 13:13
Be silent, that I may speak, and cease from mine anger,

Let come on me what will.

while I may take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand.

and put my life in my hand?
Jb 13:14Jb 13:14עַל־מָ֤ה ׀ אֶשָּׂ֣א בְשָׂרִ֣י בְשִׁנָּ֑י וְ֝נַפְשִׁ֗י אָשִׂ֥ים בְּכַפִּֽי׃Jb 13:14
Why should I take my flesh in my teeth,
and put my life in my hand?
15Jb 13:1515ἐάν με χειρώσηται ὁ δυνάστης ἐπεὶ καὶ ἦρκται ἦ μὴν λαλήσω καὶ ἐλέγξω ἐναντίον αὐτοῦJb 13:15
Though the Mighty One should lay hand upon me, forasmuch as he has begun, verily I will speak, and plead before him.

Behold, he will kill me.
I have no hope.
Nevertheless, I will maintain my ways before him.
Jb 13:15Jb 13:15הֵ֣ן יִ֭קְטְלֵנִי ‏{ לא ל֣וֹ }‏ אֲיַחֵ֑ל אַךְ־דְּ֝רָכַ֗י אֶל־פָּנָ֥יו אוֹכִֽיחַ׃

Jb 13:15
Behold, he will kill me.
I have no hope.
Nevertheless, I will maintain my ways before him.
16Jb 13:1616καὶ τοῦτό μοι ἀποβήσεται εἰς σωτηρίαν οὐ γὰρ ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ δόλος εἰσελεύσεταιJb 13:16
And this shall turn to me for salvation; for fraud shall have no entrance before him.
Jb 13:16
This also shall be my salvation,
that a godless man shall not come before him.
Jb 13:16Jb 13:16גַּם־הוּא־לִ֥י לִֽישׁוּעָ֑ה כִּי־לֹ֥א לְ֝פָנָ֗יו חָנֵ֥ף יָבֽוֹא׃Jb 13:16
This also shall be my salvation,
that a godless man shall not come before him.
17Jb 13:1717ἀκούσατε ἀκούσατε τὰ ῥήματά μου ἀναγγελῶ γὰρ ὑμῶν ἀκουόντωνJb 13:17
Hear, hear ye my words, for I will declare in your hearing.
Jb 13:17
Hear diligently my speech.
Let my declaration be in your ears.
Jb 13:17Jb 13:17שִׁמְע֣וּ שָׁ֭מוֹעַ מִלָּתִ֑י וְ֝אַֽחֲוָתִ֗י בְּאָזְנֵיכֶֽם׃Jb 13:17
Hear diligently my speech.
Let my declaration be in your ears.
18Jb 13:1818ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐγγύς εἰμι τοῦ κρίματός μου οἶδα ἐγὼ ὅτι δίκαιος ἀναφανοῦμαιJb 13:18
Behold, I am near my judgment: I know that I shall appear evidently just.
Jb 13:18
See now, I have set my cause in order.
I know that I am righteous.
Jb 13:18Jb 13:18הִנֵּה־נָ֭א עָרַ֣כְתִּי מִשְׁפָּ֑ט יָ֝דַ֗עְתִּי כִּֽי־אֲנִ֥י אֶצְדָּֽק׃Jb 13:18
See now, I have set my cause in order.
I know that I am righteous.
19Jb 13:1919τίς γάρ ἐστιν ὁ κριθησόμενός μοι ὅτι νῦν κωφεύσω καὶ ἐκλείψωJb 13:19
For who is he that shall plead with me, that I should now be silent, and expire?
Jb 13:19
Who is he who will contend with me?
For then would I hold my peace and give up the spirit.
Jb 13:19Jb 13:19מִי־ה֭וּא יָרִ֣יב עִמָּדִ֑י כִּֽי־עַתָּ֖ה אַחֲרִ֣ישׁ וְאֶגְוָֽע׃Jb 13:19
Who is he who will contend with me?
For then would I hold my peace and give up the spirit.
20Jb 13:2020δυεῖν δέ μοι χρήσῃ τότε ἀπὸ τοῦ προσώπου σου οὐ κρυβήσομαιJb 13:20
But grant me two things: then I will not hide myself from thy face.

then I will I not hide myself from your face:

“Only don’t do two things to me;
then I will not hide myself from your face:
21Jb 13:2121τὴν χεῖρα ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ ἀπέχου καὶ ὁ φόβος σου μή με καταπλησσέτωJb 13:21
Withhold thine hand from me: and let not thy fear terrify me.

withdraw your hand far from me;
and don’t let your terror make me afraid.

22Jb 13:2222εἶτα καλέσεις ἐγὼ δέ σοι ὑπακούσομαι ἢ λαλήσεις ἐγὼ δέ σοι δώσω ἀνταπόκρισινJb 13:22
Then shalt thou call, and I will hearken to thee: or thou shalt speak, and I will give thee an answer.

Then call, and I will answer;

23Jb 13:2323πόσαι εἰσὶν αἱ ἁμαρτίαι μου καὶ αἱ ἀνομίαι μου δίδαξόν με τίνες εἰσίνJb 13:23
How many are my sins and my transgressions? teach me what they are.

How many are my iniquities and sins?
Make me know my disobedience and my sin.

Wherefore hidest thou thyself from me, and deemest me thine enemy?

Wilt thou be startled at me, as at a leaf shaken by the wind? or wilt thou set thyself against me as against grass borne upon the breeze?

Will you harass a driven leaf?

for thou hast written evil things against me, and thou hast compassed me with the sins of my youth.

For you write bitter things against me,
and make me inherit the iniquities of my youth:

And thou hast placed my foot in the stocks; and thou hast watched all my works, and hast penetrated my heels.

You also put my feet in the stocks,
and mark all my paths.
You set a bound to the soles of my feet,

You also put my feet in the stocks,
and mark all my paths.
You set a bound to the soles of my feet,
28Jb 13:2828ὃ παλαιοῦται ἴσα ἀσκῷ ἢ ὥσπερ ἱμάτιον σητόβρωτονJb 13:28
I am as that which waxes old like a bottle, or like a moth-eaten garment.

though I am decaying like a rotten thing,
like a garment that is moth-eaten.
Jb 13:28Jb 13:28וְ֭הוּא כְּרָקָ֣ב יִבְלֶ֑ה כְּ֝בֶ֗גֶד אֲכָ֣לוֹ עָֽשׁ׃Jb 13:28
though I am decaying like a rotten thing,
like a garment that is moth-eaten.
