¶Then Job answered,
Jb 12:1Jb 12:1וַיַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃Jb 12:1
¶Then Job answered,
2Jb 12:22εἶτα ὑμεῖς ἐστε ἄνθρωποι ἦ μεθ’ ὑμῶν τελευτήσει σοφίαJb 12:2
So then ye alone are men, and wisdom shall die with you?
Jb 12:2
“No doubt, but you are the people,
and wisdom shall die with you.
Jb 12:2Jb 12:2אָ֭מְנָם כִּ֣י אַתֶּם־עָ֑ם וְ֝עִמָּכֶ֗ם תָּמ֥וּת חָכְמָֽה׃Jb 12:2
“No doubt, but you are the people,
and wisdom shall die with you.
3Jb 12:33κἀμοὶ μὲν καρδία καθ’ ὑμᾶς ἐστινJb 12:3
But I also have a heart as well as you.

But I have understanding as well as you;
I am not inferior to you.
Yes, who doesn’t know such things as these?
Jb 12:3Jb 12:3גַּם־לִ֤י לֵבָ֨ב ׀ כְּֽמוֹכֶ֗ם לֹא־נֹפֵ֣ל אָנֹכִ֣י מִכֶּ֑ם וְאֶת־מִי־אֵ֥ין כְּמוֹ־אֵֽלֶּה׃Jb 12:3
But I have understanding as well as you;
I am not inferior to you.
Yes, who doesn’t know such things as these?
4Jb 12:44δίκαιος γὰρ ἀνὴρ καὶ ἄμεμπτος ἐγενήθη εἰς χλεύασμαJb 12:4
For a righteous and blameless man has become a subject for mockery.
Jb 12:4
I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor,
I, who called on God, and he answered.
The just, the blameless man is a joke.

5Jb 12:55εἰς χρόνον γὰρ τακτὸν ἡτοίμαστο πεσεῖν ὑπὸ ἄλλους οἴκους τε αὐτοῦ ἐκπορθεῖσθαι ὑπὸ ἀνόμωνJb 12:5
For it had been ordained that he should fall under others at the appointed time, and that his houses should be spoiled by transgressors: let not however any one trust that, being evil, he shall be held guiltless,

6Jb 12:66οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ μηδεὶς πεποιθέτω πονηρὸς ὢν ἀθῷος ἔσεσθαι ὅσοι παροργίζουσιν τὸν κύριον ὡς οὐχὶ καὶ ἔτασις αὐτῶν ἔσταιJb 12:6
even as many as provoke the Lord, as if there were indeed to be no inquisition made of them.

The tents of robbers prosper.
Those who provoke God are secure,
who carry their God in their hands.
Jb 12:6Jb 12:6יִשְׁלָ֤יוּ אֹֽהָלִ֨ים ׀ לְשֹׁ֥דְדִ֗ים וּֽ֭בַטֻּחוֹת לְמַרְגִּ֣יזֵי אֵ֑ל לַאֲשֶׁ֤ר הֵבִ֖יא אֱל֣וֹהַּ בְּיָדֽוֹ׃Jb 12:6

7Jb 12:77ἀλλὰ δὴ ἐπερώτησον τετράποδα ἐάν σοι εἴπωσιν πετεινὰ δὲ οὐρανοῦ ἐάν σοι ἀπαγγείλωσινJb 12:7
But ask now the beasts, if they may speak to thee; and the birds of the air, if they may declare to thee.

“But ask the animals, now, and they shall teach you;
the birds of the sky, and they shall tell you.
Jb 12:7Jb 12:7וְֽאוּלָ֗ם שְׁאַל־נָ֣א בְהֵמ֣וֹת וְתֹרֶ֑ךָּ וְע֥וֹף הַ֝שָּׁמַ֗יִם וְיַגֶּד־לָֽךְ׃Jb 12:7
“But ask the animals, now, and they shall teach you;
the birds of the sky, and they shall tell you.
8Jb 12:88ἐκδιήγησαι δὲ γῇ ἐάν σοι φράσῃ καὶ ἐξηγήσονταί σοι οἱ ἰχθύες τῆς θαλάσσηςJb 12:8
Tell the earth, if it may speak to thee: and the fishes of the sea shall explain to thee.
Jb 12:8
Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you.
The fish of the sea shall declare to you.

9Jb 12:99τίς οὐκ ἔγνω ἐν πᾶσι τούτοις ὅτι χεὶρ κυρίου ἐποίησεν ταῦταJb 12:9
Who then has not known in all these things, that the hand of the Lord has made them?

Who doesn’t know that in all these,
the hand of Yahweh has done this,
Jb 12:9Jb 12:9מִ֭י לֹא־יָדַ֣ע בְּכָל־אֵ֑לֶּה כִּ֥י יַד־יְ֝הוָה עָ֣שְׂתָה זֹּֽאת׃Jb 12:9
Who doesn’t know that in all these,
the hand of Yahweh has done this,
10Jb 12:1010εἰ μὴ ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ ψυχὴ πάντων τῶν ζώντων καὶ πνεῦμα παντὸς ἀνθρώπουJb 12:10
Whereas the life of all living things is in his hand, and the breath of every man.

in whose hand is the life of every living thing,
and the breath of all mankind?
Jb 12:10Jb 12:10אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּ֭יָדוֹ נֶ֣פֶשׁ כָּל־חָ֑י וְ֝ר֗וּחַ כָּל־בְּשַׂר־אִֽישׁ׃Jb 12:10
in whose hand is the life of every living thing,
and the breath of all mankind?
11Jb 12:1111οὖς μὲν γὰρ ῥήματα διακρίνει λάρυγξ δὲ σῖτα γεύεταιJb 12:11
For the ear tries words, and the palate tastes meats.

Doesn’t the ear try words,
even as the palate tastes its food?

12Jb 12:1212ἐν πολλῷ χρόνῳ σοφία ἐν δὲ πολλῷ βίῳ ἐπιστήμηJb 12:12
In length of time is wisdom, and in long life knowledge.

With aged men is wisdom,
in length of days understanding.

13Jb 12:1313παρ’ αὐτῷ σοφία καὶ δύναμις αὐτῷ βουλὴ καὶ σύνεσιςJb 12:13
With him are wisdom and power, with him counsel and understanding.

14Jb 12:1414ἐὰν καταβάλῃ τίς οἰκοδομήσει ἐὰν κλείσῃ κατὰ ἀνθρώπων τίς ἀνοίξειJb 12:14
If he should cast down, who will build up? if he should shut up against man, who shall open?

Behold, he breaks down, and it can’t be built again.
He imprisons a man, and there can be no release.
Jb 12:14Jb 12:14הֵ֣ן יַ֭הֲרוֹס וְלֹ֣א יִבָּנֶ֑ה יִסְגֹּ֥ר עַל־אִ֝֗ישׁ וְלֹ֣א יִפָּתֵֽחַ׃Jb 12:14

15Jb 12:1515ἐὰν κωλύσῃ τὸ ὥδωρ ξηρανεῖ τὴν γῆν ἐὰν δὲ ἐπαφῇ ἀπώλεσεν αὐτὴν καταστρέψαςJb 12:15
If he should withhold the water, he will dry the earth: and if he should let it loose, he overthrows and destroys it.

Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up.
Again, he sends them out, and they overturn the earth.
Jb 12:15Jb 12:15הֵ֤ן יַעְצֹ֣ר בַּמַּ֣יִם וְיִבָ֑שׁוּ וִֽ֝ישַׁלְּחֵ֗ם וְיַ֖הַפְכוּ אָֽרֶץ׃Jb 12:15
Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up.
Again, he sends them out, and they overturn the earth.
16Jb 12:1616παρ’ αὐτῷ κράτος καὶ ἰσχύς αὐτῷ ἐπιστήμη καὶ σύνεσιςJb 12:16
With him are strength and power: he has knowledge and understanding.

With him is strength and wisdom.
The deceived and the deceiver are his.
Jb 12:16Jb 12:16עִ֭מּוֹ עֹ֣ז וְתֽוּשִׁיָּ֑ה ל֝֗וֹ שֹׁגֵ֥ג וּמַשְׁגֶּֽה׃Jb 12:16
With him is strength and wisdom.
The deceived and the deceiver are his.
17Jb 12:1717διάγων βουλευτὰς αἰχμαλώτους κριτὰς δὲ γῆς ἐξέστησενJb 12:17
He leads counsellors away captive, and maddens the judges of the earth.

18Jb 12:1818καθιζάνων βασιλεῖς ἐπὶ θρόνους καὶ περιέδησεν ζώνῃ ὀσφύας αὐτῶνJb 12:18
He seats kings upon thrones, and girds their loins with a girdle.

He binds their waist with a belt.

He loosens the bond of kings.
He binds their waist with a belt.
19Jb 12:1919ἐξαποστέλλων ἱερεῖς αἰχμαλώτους δυνάστας δὲ γῆς κατέστρεψενJb 12:19
He sends away priests into captivity, and overthrows the mighty ones of the earth.

He pours dishonour upon princes, and heals the lowly.

and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.
