And it came to pass after two full years that Pharao had a dream. He thought he stood upon the bank of the river.

¶It happened at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and behold, he stood by the river.

¶It happened at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and behold, he stood by the river.
2Gn 41:22καὶ ἰδοὺ ὥσπερ ἐκ τοῦ ποταμοῦ ἀνέβαινον ἑπτὰ βόες καλαὶ τῷ εἴδει καὶ ἐκλεκταὶ ταῖς σαρξὶν καὶ ἐβόσκοντο ἐν τῷ ἄχειGn 41:2
And lo, there came up as it were out of the river seven cows, fair in appearance, and choice of flesh, and they fed on the sedge.

Behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, sleek and fat, and they fed in the marsh grass.

Behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, sleek and fat, and they fed in the marsh grass.
3Gn 41:33ἄλλαι δὲ ἑπτὰ βόες ἀνέβαινον μετὰ ταύτας ἐκ τοῦ ποταμοῦ αἰσχραὶ τῷ εἴδει καὶ λεπταὶ ταῖς σαρξὶν καὶ ἐνέμοντο παρὰ τὰς βόας παρὰ τὸ χεῖλος τοῦ ποταμοῦGn 41:3
And other seven cows came up after these out of the river, ill-favoured and lean-fleshed, and fed by the other cows on the bank of the river.

Behold, seven other cattle came up after them out of the river, ugly and thin, and stood by the other cattle on the brink of the river.

Behold, seven other cattle came up after them out of the river, ugly and thin, and stood by the other cattle on the brink of the river.
4Gn 41:44καὶ κατέφαγον αἱ ἑπτὰ βόες αἱ αἰσχραὶ καὶ λεπταὶ ταῖς σαρξὶν τὰς ἑπτὰ βόας τὰς καλὰς τῷ εἴδει καὶ τὰς ἐκλεκτάς ἠγέρθη δὲ ΦαραωGn 41:4
And the seven ill-favoured and lean cows devoured the seven well-favoured and choice-fleshed cows; and Pharao awoke.

The ugly and thin cattle ate up the seven sleek and fat cattle. So Pharaoh awoke.

The ugly and thin cattle ate up the seven sleek and fat cattle. So Pharaoh awoke.
5Gn 41:55καὶ ἐνυπνιάσθη τὸ δεύτερον καὶ ἰδοὺ ἑπτὰ στάχυες ἀνέβαινον ἐν πυθμένι ἑνὶ ἐκλεκτοὶ καὶ καλοίGn 41:5
And he dreamed again. And, behold, seven ears came up on one stalk, choice and good.

He slept and dreamed a second time: and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, healthy and good.

He slept and dreamed a second time: and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, healthy and good.
6Gn 41:66ἄλλοι δὲ ἑπτὰ στάχυες λεπτοὶ καὶ ἀνεμόφθοροι ἀνεφύοντο μετ’ αὐτούςGn 41:6
And, behold, seven ears thin and blasted with the wind, grew up after them.

Behold, seven heads of grain, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.

Behold, seven heads of grain, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.
7Gn 41:77καὶ κατέπιον οἱ ἑπτὰ στάχυες οἱ λεπτοὶ καὶ ἀνεμόφθοροι τοὺς ἑπτὰ στάχυας τοὺς ἐκλεκτοὺς καὶ τοὺς πλήρεις ἠγέρθη δὲ Φαραω καὶ ἦν ἐνύπνιονGn 41:7
And the seven thin ears and blasted with the wind devoured the seven choice and full ears; and Pharao awoke, and it was a dream.

The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy and full ears. Pharaoh awoke, and behold, it was a dream.
8Gn 41:88ἐγένετο δὲ πρωὶ καὶ ἐταράχθη ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀποστείλας ἐκάλεσεν πάντας τοὺς ἐξηγητὰς Αἰγύπτου καὶ πάντας τοὺς σοφοὺς αὐτῆς καὶ διηγήσατο αὐτοῖς Φαραω τὸ ἐνύπνιον καὶ οὐκ ἦν ὁ ἀπαγγέλλων αὐτὸ τῷ ΦαραωGn 41:8
And it was morning, and his soul was troubled; and he sent and called all the interpreters of Egypt, and all her wise men; and Pharao related to them his dream, and there was no one to interpret it to Pharao.

It happened in the morning that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all of Egypt’s magicians and wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them to Pharaoh.

It happened in the morning that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all of Egypt’s magicians and wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them to Pharaoh.
9Gn 41:99καὶ ἐλάλησεν ὁ ἀρχιοινοχόος πρὸς Φαραω λέγων τὴν ἁμαρτίαν μου ἀναμιμνῄσκω σήμερονGn 41:9
And the chief cupbearer spoke to Pharao, saying, I this day remember my fault:

¶Then the chief cupbearer spoke to Pharaoh, saying, “I remember my faults today.
10Gn 41:1010Φαραω ὠργίσθη τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔθετο ἡμᾶς ἐν φυλακῇ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ ἀρχιμαγείρου ἐμέ τε καὶ τὸν ἀρχισιτοποιόνGn 41:10
Pharao was angry with his servants, and put us in prison in the house of the captain of the guard, both me and the chief baker.

11Gn 41:1111καὶ εἴδομεν ἐνύπνιον ἐν νυκτὶ μιᾷ ἐγώ τε καὶ αὐτός ἕκαστος κατὰ τὸ αὑτοῦ ἐνύπνιον εἴδομενGn 41:11
And we had a dream both in one night, I and he; we saw, each according to his dream.

We dreamed a dream in one night, I and he. We dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.
Gn 41:11Gn 41:11וַנַּֽחַלְמָ֥ה חֲל֛וֹם בְּלַ֥יְלָה אֶחָ֖ד אֲנִ֣י וָה֑וּא אִ֛ישׁ כְּפִתְר֥וֹן חֲלֹמ֖וֹ חָלָֽמְנוּ׃Gn 41:11
We dreamed a dream in one night, I and he. We dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.
12Gn 41:1212ἦν δὲ ἐκεῖ μεθ’ ἡμῶν νεανίσκος παῖς Εβραῖος τοῦ ἀρχιμαγείρου καὶ διηγησάμεθα αὐτῷ καὶ συνέκρινεν ἡμῖνGn 41:12
And there was there with us a young man, a Hebrew servant of the captain of the guard; and we related to him our dreams, and he interpreted them to us.

There was with us there a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams. To each man according to his dream he interpreted.

There was with us there a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams. To each man according to his dream he interpreted.
13Gn 41:1313ἐγενήθη δὲ καθὼς συνέκρινεν ἡμῖν οὕτως καὶ συνέβη ἐμέ τε ἀποκατασταθῆναι ἐπὶ τὴν ἀρχήν μου ἐκεῖνον δὲ κρεμασθῆναιGn 41:13
And it came to pass, as he interpreted them to us, so also it happened, both that I was restored to my office, and that he was hanged.

It happened, as he interpreted to us, so it was: he restored me to my office, and he hanged him.”
14Gn 41:1414ἀποστείλας δὲ Φαραω ἐκάλεσεν τὸν Ιωσηφ καὶ ἐξήγαγον αὐτὸν ἐκ τοῦ ὀχυρώματος καὶ ἐξύρησαν αὐτὸν καὶ ἤλλαξαν τὴν στολὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἦλθεν πρὸς ΦαραωGn 41:14
And Pharao having sent, called Joseph; and they brought him out from the prison, and shaved him, and changed his dress, and he came to Pharao.

¶Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. He shaved himself, changed his clothing, and came in to Pharaoh.
Gn 41:14Gn 41:14וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח פַּרְעֹה֙ וַיִּקְרָ֣א אֶת־יוֹסֵ֔ף וַיְרִיצֻ֖הוּ מִן־הַבּ֑וֹר וַיְגַלַּח֙ וַיְחַלֵּ֣ף שִׂמְלֹתָ֔יו וַיָּבֹ֖א אֶל־פַּרְעֹֽה׃Gn 41:14
¶Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. He shaved himself, changed his clothing, and came in to Pharaoh.
15Gn 41:1515εἶπεν δὲ Φαραω τῷ Ιωσηφ ἐνύπνιον ἑώρακα καὶ ὁ συγκρίνων οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτό ἐγὼ δὲ ἀκήκοα περὶ σοῦ λεγόντων ἀκούσαντά σε ἐνύπνια συγκρῖναι αὐτάGn 41:15
And Pharao said to Joseph, I have seen a vision, and there is no one to interpret it; but I have heard say concerning thee that thou didst hear dreams and interpret them.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”
16Gn 41:1616ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Ιωσηφ τῷ Φαραω εἶπεν ἄνευ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐκ ἀποκριθήσεται τὸ σωτήριον ΦαραωGn 41:16
And Joseph answered Pharao and said, Without God an answer of safety shall not be given to Pharao.

¶Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It isn’t in me. God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”
Gn 41:16Gn 41:16וַיַּ֨עַן יוֹסֵ֧ף אֶת־פַּרְעֹ֛ה לֵאמֹ֖ר בִּלְעָדָ֑י אֱלֹהִ֕ים יַעֲנֶ֖ה אֶת־שְׁל֥וֹם פַּרְעֹֽה׃Gn 41:16
¶Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It isn’t in me. God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”
17Gn 41:1717ἐλάλησεν δὲ Φαραω τῷ Ιωσηφ λέγων ἐν τῷ ὕπνῳ μου ᾤμην ἑστάναι παρὰ τὸ χεῖλος τοῦ ποταμοῦGn 41:17
And Pharao spoke to Joseph, saying, In my dream methought I stood by the bank of the river;

¶Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, “In my dream, behold, I stood on the brink of the river:
Gn 41:17Gn 41:17וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר פַּרְעֹ֖ה אֶל־יוֹסֵ֑ף בַּחֲלֹמִ֕י הִנְנִ֥י עֹמֵ֖ד עַל־שְׂפַ֥ת הַיְאֹֽר׃Gn 41:17
¶Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, “In my dream, behold, I stood on the brink of the river:
18Gn 41:1818καὶ ὥσπερ ἐκ τοῦ ποταμοῦ ἀνέβαινον ἑπτὰ βόες καλαὶ τῷ εἴδει καὶ ἐκλεκταὶ ταῖς σαρξὶν καὶ ἐνέμοντο ἐν τῷ ἄχειGn 41:18
and there came up as it were out of the river, seven cows well-favoured and choice-fleshed, and they fed on the sedge.

and behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, fat and sleek. They fed in the marsh grass,
19Gn 41:1919καὶ ἰδοὺ ἑπτὰ βόες ἕτεραι ἀνέβαινον ὀπίσω αὐτῶν ἐκ τοῦ ποταμοῦ πονηραὶ καὶ αἰσχραὶ τῷ εἴδει καὶ λεπταὶ ταῖς σαρξίν οἵας οὐκ εἶδον τοιαύτας ἐν ὅλῃ γῇ Αἰγύπτῳ αἰσχροτέραςGn 41:19
And behold seven other cows came up after them out of the river, evil and ill-favoured and lean-fleshed, such that I never saw worse in all the land of Egypt.

and behold, seven other cattle came up after them, poor and very ugly and thin, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for ugliness.
Gn 41:19Gn 41:19וְהִנֵּ֞ה שֶֽׁבַע־פָּר֤וֹת אֲחֵרוֹת֙ עֹל֣וֹת אַחֲרֵיהֶ֔ן דַּלּ֨וֹת וְרָע֥וֹת תֹּ֛אַר מְאֹ֖ד וְרַקּ֣וֹת בָּשָׂ֑ר לֹֽא־רָאִ֧יתִי כָהֵ֛נָּה בְּכָל־אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם לָרֹֽעַ׃Gn 41:19
and behold, seven other cattle came up after them, poor and very ugly and thin, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for ugliness.
20Gn 41:2020καὶ κατέφαγον αἱ ἑπτὰ βόες αἱ αἰσχραὶ καὶ λεπταὶ τὰς ἑπτὰ βόας τὰς πρώτας τὰς καλὰς καὶ ἐκλεκτάςGn 41:20
And the seven ill-favoured and thin cows ate up the seven first good and choice cows.

The thin and ugly cattle ate up the first seven fat cattle,
Gn 41:20Gn 41:20וַתֹּאכַ֙לְנָה֙ הַפָּר֔וֹת הָרַקּ֖וֹת וְהָרָע֑וֹת אֵ֣ת שֶׁ֧בַע הַפָּר֛וֹת הָרִאשֹׁנ֖וֹת הַבְּרִיאֹֽת׃Gn 41:20
The thin and ugly cattle ate up the first seven fat cattle,
21Gn 41:2121καὶ εἰσῆλθον εἰς τὰς κοιλίας αὐτῶν καὶ οὐ διάδηλοι ἐγένοντο ὅτι εἰσῆλθον εἰς τὰς κοιλίας αὐτῶν καὶ αἱ ὄψεις αὐτῶν αἰσχραὶ καθὰ καὶ τὴν ἀρχήν ἐξεγερθεὶς δὲ ἐκοιμήθηνGn 41:21
And they went into their bellies; and it was not perceptible that they had gone into their bellies, and their appearance was ill-favoured, as also at the beginning; and after I awoke I slept,

and when they had eaten them up, it couldn’t be known that they had eaten them, but they were still ugly, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
Gn 41:21Gn 41:21וַתָּבֹ֣אנָה אֶל־קִרְבֶּ֗נָה וְלֹ֤א נוֹדַע֙ כִּי־בָ֣אוּ אֶל־קִרְבֶּ֔נָה וּמַרְאֵיהֶ֣ן רַ֔ע כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר בַּתְּחִלָּ֑ה וָאִיקָֽץ׃Gn 41:21
and when they had eaten them up, it couldn’t be known that they had eaten them, but they were still ugly, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
22Gn 41:2222καὶ εἶδον πάλιν ἐν τῷ ὕπνῳ μου καὶ ὥσπερ ἑπτὰ στάχυες ἀνέβαινον ἐν πυθμένι ἑνὶ πλήρεις καὶ καλοίGn 41:22
and saw again in my sleep, and as it were seven ears came up on one stem, full and good.

I saw in my dream, and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, full and good:
Gn 41:22Gn 41:22וָאֵ֖רֶא בַּחֲלֹמִ֑י וְהִנֵּ֣ה ׀ שֶׁ֣בַע שִׁבֳּלִ֗ים עֹלֹ֛ת בְּקָנֶ֥ה אֶחָ֖ד מְלֵאֹ֥ת וְטֹבֽוֹת׃Gn 41:22
I saw in my dream, and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, full and good:
23Gn 41:2323ἄλλοι δὲ ἑπτὰ στάχυες λεπτοὶ καὶ ἀνεμόφθοροι ἀνεφύοντο ἐχόμενοι αὐτῶνGn 41:23
And other seven ears, thin and blasted with the wind, sprang up close to them.

and behold, seven heads of grain, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.
Gn 41:23Gn 41:23וְהִנֵּה֙ שֶׁ֣בַע שִׁבֳּלִ֔ים צְנֻמ֥וֹת דַּקּ֖וֹת שְׁדֻפ֣וֹת קָדִ֑ים צֹמְח֖וֹת אַחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃Gn 41:23

And concerning the repetition of the dream to Pharao twice, it is because the saying which is from God shall be true, and God will hasten to accomplish it.

¶Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
47Gn 41:4747καὶ ἐποίησεν ἡ γῆ ἐν τοῖς ἑπτὰ ἔτεσιν τῆς εὐθηνίας δράγματαGn 41:47
And the land produced, in the seven years of plenty, whole handfuls of corn.

And he gathered all the food of the seven years, in which was the plenty in the land of Egypt; and he laid up the food in the cities; the food of the fields of a city round about it he laid up in it.

He gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was around every city, he laid up in the same.
49Gn 41:4949καὶ συνήγαγεν Ιωσηφ σῖτον ὡσεὶ τὴν ἄμμον τῆς θαλάσσης πολὺν σφόδρα ἕως οὐκ ἠδύναντο ἀριθμῆσαι οὐ γὰρ ἦν ἀριθμόςGn 41:49
And Joseph gathered very much corn as the sand of the sea, until it could not be numbered, for there was no number of it.

And to Joseph were born two sons, before the seven years of famine came, which Aseneth, the daughter of Petephres, priest of Heliopolis, bore to him.

And Joseph called the name of the first-born, Manasse; for God, said he, has made me forget all my toils, and all my father's house.

And he called the name of the second, Ephraim; for God, said he, has increased me in the land of my humiliation.

And all the land of Egypt was hungry; and the people cried to Pharao for bread. And Pharao said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph, and do whatsoever he shall tell you.

When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph. What he says to you, do.”

When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph. What he says to you, do.”
56Gn 41:5656καὶ ὁ λιμὸς ἦν ἐπὶ προσώπου πάσης τῆς γῆς ἀνέῳξεν δὲ Ιωσηφ πάντας τοὺς σιτοβολῶνας καὶ ἐπώλει πᾶσι τοῖς ΑἰγυπτίοιςGn 41:56
And the famine was on the face of all the earth; and Joseph opened all the granaries, and sold to all the Egyptians.

57Gn 41:5757καὶ πᾶσαι αἱ χῶραι ἦλθον εἰς Αἴγυπτον ἀγοράζειν πρὸς Ιωσηφ ἐπεκράτησεν γὰρ ὁ λιμὸς ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῇGn 41:57
And all countries came to Egypt to buy of Joseph, for the famine prevailed in all the earth.
