And if the thief be found in the breach made by himself and be smitten and die, there shall not be blood shed for him.

If the thief is found breaking in, and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt of bloodshed for him.
Ex 22:1Ex 22:1אִם־בַּמַּחְתֶּ֛רֶת יִמָּצֵ֥א הַגַּנָּ֖ב וְהֻכָּ֣ה וָמֵ֑ת אֵ֥ין ל֖וֹ דָּמִֽים׃Ex 22:2

2Ex 22:32ἐὰν δὲ ἀνατείλῃ ὁ ἥλιος ἐπ’ αὐτῷ ἔνοχός ἐστιν ἀνταποθανεῖται ἐὰν δὲ μὴ ὑπάρχῃ αὐτῷ πραθήτω ἀντὶ τοῦ κλέμματοςEx 22:3
But if the sun be risen upon him, he is guilty, he shall die instead; and if a thief have nothing, let him be sold in compensation for what he has stolen.
Ex 22:3
If the sun has risen on him, guilt of bloodshed shall be for him; he shall make restitution. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

And if the thing stolen be left and be in his hand alive, whether ox or sheep, he shall restore them two-fold.

4Ex 22:54ἐὰν δὲ καταβοσκήσῃ τις ἀγρὸν ἢ ἀμπελῶνα καὶ ἀφῇ τὸ κτῆνος αὐτοῦ καταβοσκῆσαι ἀγρὸν ἕτερον ἀποτείσει ἐκ τοῦ ἀγροῦ αὐτοῦ κατὰ τὸ γένημα αὐτοῦ ἐὰν δὲ πάντα τὸν ἀγρὸν καταβοσκήσῃ τὰ βέλτιστα τοῦ ἀγροῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ βέλτιστα τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος αὐτοῦ ἀποτείσειEx 22:5
And if any one should feed down a field or a vineyard, and should send in his beast to feed down another field, he shall make compensation of his own field according to his produce; and if he shall have fed down the whole field, he shall pay for compensation the best of his own field and the best of his vineyard.

Ex 22:5
¶“If a man causes a field or vineyard to be eaten, and lets his animal loose, and it grazes in another man’s field, he shall make restitution from the best of his own field, and from the best of his own vineyard.
5Ex 22:65ἐὰν δὲ ἐξελθὸν πῦρ εὕρῃ ἀκάνθας καὶ προσεμπρήσῃ ἅλωνα ἢ στάχυς ἢ πεδίον ἀποτείσει ὁ τὸ πῦρ ἐκκαύσαςEx 22:6
And if fire have gone forth and caught thorns, and should also set on fire threshing-floors or ears of corn or a field, he that kindled the fire shall make compensation.

¶“If fire breaks out, and catches in thorns so that the shocks of grain, or the standing grain, or the field are consumed; he who kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.
Ex 22:5Ex 22:5כִּֽי־תֵצֵ֨א אֵ֜שׁ וּמָצְאָ֤ה קֹצִים֙ וְנֶאֱכַ֣ל גָּדִ֔ישׁ א֥וֹ הַקָּמָ֖ה א֣וֹ הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה שַׁלֵּ֣ם יְשַׁלֵּ֔ם הַמַּבְעִ֖ר אֶת־הַבְּעֵרָֽה׃ ס Ex 22:6
¶“If fire breaks out, and catches in thorns so that the shocks of grain, or the standing grain, or the field are consumed; he who kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.
6Ex 22:76ἐὰν δέ τις δῷ τῷ πλησίον ἀργύριον ἢ σκεύη φυλάξαι καὶ κλαπῇ ἐκ τῆς οἰκίας τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐὰν εὑρεθῇ ὁ κλέψας ἀποτείσει διπλοῦνEx 22:7
And if any one give to his neighbour money or goods to keep, and they be stolen out of the man's house, if the thief be found he shall repay double.

¶“If a man delivers to his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it is stolen out of the man’s house; if the thief is found, he shall pay double.
7Ex 22:87ἐὰν δὲ μὴ εὑρεθῇ ὁ κλέψας προσελεύσεται ὁ κύριος τῆς οἰκίας ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ὀμεῖται ἦ μὴν μὴ αὐτὸς πεπονηρεῦσθαι ἐφ’ ὅλης τῆς παρακαταθήκης τοῦ πλησίονEx 22:8
But if the thief be not found, the master of the house shall come forward before God, and shall swear that surely he has not wrought wickedly in regard of any part of his neighbour's deposit,
Ex 22:8
If the thief isn’t found, then the master of the house shall come near to God, to find out if he hasn’t put his hand to his neighbor’s goods.
Ex 22:7Ex 22:7אִם־לֹ֤א יִמָּצֵא֙ הַגַּנָּ֔ב וְנִקְרַ֥ב בַּֽעַל־הַבַּ֖יִת אֶל־הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים אִם־לֹ֥א שָׁלַ֛ח יָד֖וֹ בִּמְלֶ֥אכֶת רֵעֵֽהוּ׃Ex 22:8
If the thief isn’t found, then the master of the house shall come near to God, to find out if he hasn’t put his hand to his neighbor’s goods.
8Ex 22:98κατὰ πᾶν ῥητὸν ἀδίκημα περί τε μόσχου καὶ ὑποζυγίου καὶ προβάτου καὶ ἱματίου καὶ πάσης ἀπωλείας τῆς ἐγκαλουμένης ὅ τι οὖν ἂν ᾖ ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ ἐλεύσεται ἡ κρίσις ἀμφοτέρων καὶ ὁ ἁλοὺς διὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ἀποτείσει διπλοῦν τῷ πλησίονEx 22:9
according to every injury alleged, both concerning a calf, and an ass, and a sheep, and a garment, and every alleged loss, whatsoever in fact it may be, —the judgment of both shall proceed before God, and he that is convicted by God shall repay to his neighbour double.

For every matter of trespass, whether it be for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for clothing, or for any kind of lost thing, about which one says, ‘This is mine,’ the cause of both parties shall come before God. He whom God condemns shall pay double to his neighbor.

And if any one give to his neighbour to keep a calf or sheep or any beast, and it be wounded or die or be taken, and no one know,

Ex 22:9Ex 22:9כִּֽי־יִתֵּן֩ אִ֨ישׁ אֶל־רֵעֵ֜הוּ חֲמ֨וֹר אוֹ־שׁ֥וֹר אוֹ־שֶׂ֛ה וְכָל־בְּהֵמָ֖ה לִשְׁמֹ֑ר וּמֵ֛ת אוֹ־נִשְׁבַּ֥ר אוֹ־נִשְׁבָּ֖ה אֵ֥ין רֹאֶֽה׃Ex 22:10
¶“If a man delivers to his neighbor a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any animal to keep, and it dies or is injured, or driven away, no man seeing it;
10Ex 22:1110ὅρκος ἔσται τοῦ θεοῦ ἀνὰ μέσον ἀμφοτέρων ἦ μὴν μὴ αὐτὸν πεπονηρεῦσθαι καθ’ ὅλης τῆς παρακαταθήκης τοῦ πλησίον καὶ οὕτως προσδέξεται ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐκ ἀποτείσειEx 22:11
an oath of God shall be between both, each swearing that he has surely not at all been guilty in the matter of his neighbour's deposit; and so his master shall hold him guiltless, and he shall not make compensation.

the oath of Yahweh shall be between them both, whether he hasn’t put his hand to his neighbor’s goods; and its owner shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution.
Ex 22:10Ex 22:10שְׁבֻעַ֣ת יְהוָ֗ה תִּהְיֶה֙ בֵּ֣ין שְׁנֵיהֶ֔ם אִם־לֹ֥א שָׁלַ֛ח יָד֖וֹ בִּמְלֶ֣אכֶת רֵעֵ֑הוּ וְלָקַ֥ח בְּעָלָ֖יו וְלֹ֥א יְשַׁלֵּֽם׃Ex 22:11
the oath of Yahweh shall be between them both, whether he hasn’t put his hand to his neighbor’s goods; and its owner shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution.

And if it be stolen from him, he shall make compensation to the owner.

And if it be seized of beasts, he shall bring him to witness the prey, and he shall not make compensation.
Ex 22:13
If it is torn in pieces, let him bring it for evidence. He shall not make good that which was torn.
Ex 22:12Ex 22:12אִם־טָרֹ֥ף יִטָּרֵ֖ף יְבִאֵ֣הוּ עֵ֑ד הַטְּרֵפָ֖ה לֹ֥א יְשַׁלֵּֽם׃ פ Ex 22:13
If it is torn in pieces, let him bring it for evidence. He shall not make good that which was torn.
13Ex 22:1413ἐὰν δὲ αἰτήσῃ τις παρὰ τοῦ πλησίον καὶ συντριβῇ ἢ ἀποθάνῃ ἢ αἰχμάλωτον γένηται ὁ δὲ κύριος μὴ ᾖ μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἀποτείσειEx 22:14
And if any one borrow ought of his neighbour, and it be wounded or die or be carried away, and the owner of it be not with it, he shall make compensation.

¶“If a man borrows anything of his neighbor’s, and it is injured, or dies, its owner not being with it, he shall surely make restitution.
Ex 22:13Ex 22:13וְכִֽי־יִשְׁאַ֥ל אִ֛ישׁ מֵעִ֥ם רֵעֵ֖הוּ וְנִשְׁבַּ֣ר אוֹ־מֵ֑ת בְּעָלָ֥יו אֵין־עִמּ֖וֹ שַׁלֵּ֥ם יְשַׁלֵּֽם׃Ex 22:14
¶“If a man borrows anything of his neighbor’s, and it is injured, or dies, its owner not being with it, he shall surely make restitution.
14Ex 22:1514ἐὰν δὲ ὁ κύριος ᾖ μετ’ αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἀποτείσει ἐὰν δὲ μισθωτὸς ᾖ ἔσται αὐτῷ ἀντὶ τοῦ μισθοῦ αὐτοῦEx 22:15
But if the owner be with it, he shall not make compensation: but if it be a hired thing, there shall be a compensation to him instead of his hire.

If its owner is with it, he shall not make it good. If it is a leased thing, it came for its lease.
Ex 22:14Ex 22:14אִם־בְּעָלָ֥יו עִמּ֖וֹ לֹ֣א יְשַׁלֵּ֑ם אִם־שָׂכִ֣יר ה֔וּא בָּ֖א בִּשְׂכָרֽוֹ׃ ס Ex 22:15
If its owner is with it, he shall not make it good. If it is a leased thing, it came for its lease.
15Ex 22:1615ἐὰν δὲ ἀπατήσῃ τις παρθένον ἀμνήστευτον καὶ κοιμηθῇ μετ’ αὐτῆς φερνῇ φερνιεῖ αὐτὴν αὐτῷ γυναῖκαEx 22:16
And if any one deceive a virgin that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her for a wife to himself.
Ex 22:16
¶“If a man entices a virgin who isn’t pledged to be married, and lies with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to be his wife.
Ex 22:15Ex 22:15וְכִֽי־יְפַתֶּ֣ה אִ֗ישׁ בְּתוּלָ֛ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־אֹרָ֖שָׂה וְשָׁכַ֣ב עִמָּ֑הּ מָהֹ֛ר יִמְהָרֶ֥נָּה לּ֖וֹ לְאִשָּֽׁה׃Ex 22:16
¶“If a man entices a virgin who isn’t pledged to be married, and lies with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to be his wife.
16Ex 22:1716ἐὰν δὲ ἀνανεύων ἀνανεύσῃ καὶ μὴ βούληται ὁ πατὴρ αὐτῆς δοῦναι αὐτὴν αὐτῷ γυναῖκα ἀργύριον ἀποτείσει τῷ πατρὶ καθ’ ὅσον ἐστὶν ἡ φερνὴ τῶν παρθένωνEx 22:17
And if her father positively refuse, and will not consent to give her to him for a wife, he shall pay compensation to her father according to the amount of the dowry of virgins.
Ex 22:17
If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.
Ex 22:16Ex 22:16אִם־מָאֵ֧ן יְמָאֵ֛ן אָבִ֖יהָ לְתִתָּ֣הּ ל֑וֹ כֶּ֣סֶף יִשְׁקֹ֔ל כְּמֹ֖הַר הַבְּתוּלֹֽת׃ ס Ex 22:17
If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

Ye shall not save the lives of sorcerers.

18Ex 22:1918πᾶν κοιμώμενον μετὰ κτήνους θανάτῳ ἀποκτενεῖτε αὐτούςEx 22:19
Every one that lies with a beast ye shall surely put to death.
Ex 22:19
¶“Whoever has sex with an animal shall surely be put to death.
Ex 22:18Ex 22:18כָּל־שֹׁכֵ֥ב עִם־בְּהֵמָ֖ה מ֥וֹת יוּמָֽת׃ ס Ex 22:19
¶“Whoever has sex with an animal shall surely be put to death.
19Ex 22:2019ὁ θυσιάζων θεοῖς θανάτῳ ὀλεθρευθήσεται πλὴν κυρίῳ μόνῳEx 22:20
He that sacrifices to any gods but to the Lord alone, shall be destroyed by death.
Ex 22:20
¶“He who sacrifices to any god, except to Yahweh only, shall be utterly destroyed.
Ex 22:19Ex 22:19זֹבֵ֥חַ לָאֱלֹהִ֖ים יָֽחֳרָ֑ם בִּלְתִּ֥י לַיהוָ֖ה לְבַדּֽוֹ׃Ex 22:20
¶“He who sacrifices to any god, except to Yahweh only, shall be utterly destroyed.
20Ex 22:2120καὶ προσήλυτον οὐ κακώσετε οὐδὲ μὴ θλίψητε αὐτόν ἦτε γὰρ προσήλυτοι ἐν γῇ ΑἰγύπτῳEx 22:21
And ye shall not hurt a stranger, nor afflict him; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Ex 22:21
¶“You shall not wrong an alien, neither shall you oppress him, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.
Ex 22:20Ex 22:20וְגֵ֥ר לֹא־תוֹנֶ֖ה וְלֹ֣א תִלְחָצֶ֑נּוּ כִּֽי־גֵרִ֥ים הֱיִיתֶ֖ם בְּאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃Ex 22:21
¶“You shall not wrong an alien, neither shall you oppress him, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.
21Ex 22:2221πᾶσαν χήραν καὶ ὀρφανὸν οὐ κακώσετεEx 22:22
Ye shall hurt no widow or orphan.

¶“You shall not take advantage of any widow or fatherless child.

¶“You shall not take advantage of any widow or fatherless child.
22Ex 22:2322ἐὰν δὲ κακίᾳ κακώσητε αὐτοὺς καὶ κεκράξαντες καταβοήσωσι πρός με ἀκοῇ εἰσακούσομαι τῆς φωνῆς αὐτῶνEx 22:23
And if ye should afflict them by ill-treatment, and they should cry aloud to me, I will surely hear their voice.

If you take advantage of them at all, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry;
Ex 22:22Ex 22:22אִם־עַנֵּ֥ה תְעַנֶּ֖ה אֹת֑וֹ כִּ֣י אִם־צָעֹ֤ק יִצְעַק֙ אֵלַ֔י שָׁמֹ֥עַ אֶשְׁמַ֖ע צַעֲקָתֽוֹ׃Ex 22:23
If you take advantage of them at all, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry;
23Ex 22:2423καὶ ὀργισθήσομαι θυμῷ καὶ ἀποκτενῶ ὑμᾶς μαχαίρᾳ καὶ ἔσονται αἱ γυναῖκες ὑμῶν χῆραι καὶ τὰ παιδία ὑμῶν ὀρφανάEx 22:24
And I will be very angry, and will slay you with the sword, and your wives shall be widows and your children orphans.
Ex 22:24
and my wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
Ex 22:23Ex 22:23וְחָרָ֣ה אַפִּ֔י וְהָרַגְתִּ֥י אֶתְכֶ֖ם בֶּחָ֑רֶב וְהָי֤וּ נְשֵׁיכֶם֙ אַלְמָנ֔וֹת וּבְנֵיכֶ֖ם יְתֹמִֽים׃ פ Ex 22:24
and my wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
24Ex 22:2524ἐὰν δὲ ἀργύριον ἐκδανείσῃς τῷ ἀδελφῷ τῷ πενιχρῷ παρὰ σοί οὐκ ἔσῃ αὐτὸν κατεπείγων οὐκ ἐπιθήσεις αὐτῷ τόκονEx 22:25
And if thou shouldest lend money to thy poor brother who is by thee, thou shalt not be hard upon him thou shalt not exact usury of him.

¶“If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor; neither shall you charge him interest.
Ex 22:24Ex 22:24אִם־כֶּ֣סֶף ׀ תַּלְוֶ֣ה אֶת־עַמִּ֗י אֶת־הֶֽעָנִי֙ עִמָּ֔ךְ לֹא־תִהְיֶ֥ה ל֖וֹ כְּנֹשֶׁ֑ה לֹֽא־תְשִׂימ֥וּן עָלָ֖יו נֶֽשֶׁךְ׃Ex 22:25
¶“If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor; neither shall you charge him interest.

And if thou take thy neighbour's garment for a pledge, thou shalt restore it to him before sunset.

For this is his clothing, this is the only covering of his nakedness; wherein shall he sleep? If then he shall cry to me, I will hearken to him, for I am merciful.

for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What would he sleep in? It will happen, when he cries to me, that I will hear, for I am gracious.
