2Sg 1:22φιλησάτω με ἀπὸ φιλημάτων στόματος αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἀγαθοὶ μαστοί σου ὑπὲρ οἶνονSg 1:2
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy breasts are better than wine.

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth;
for your love is better than wine.
3Sg 1:33καὶ ὀσμὴ μύρων σου ὑπὲρ πάντα τὰ ἀρώματα μύρον ἐκκενωθὲν ὄνομά σου διὰ τοῦτο νεάνιδες ἠγάπησάν σεSg 1:3
And the smell of thine ointments is better than all spices: thy name is ointment poured forth; therefore do the young maidens love thee.

Your oils have a pleasing fragrance.

Your oils have a pleasing fragrance.
Your name is oil poured forth,
therefore the virgins love you.
4Sg 1:44εἵλκυσάν σε ὀπίσω σου εἰς ὀσμὴν μύρων σου δραμοῦμεν εἰσήνεγκέν με ὁ βασιλεὺς εἰς τὸ ταμίειον αὐτοῦ ἀγαλλιασώμεθα καὶ εὐφρανθῶμεν ἐν σοί ἀγαπήσομεν μαστούς σου ὑπὲρ οἶνον εὐθύτης ἠγάπησέν σεSg 1:4
They have drawn thee: we will run after thee, for the smell of thine ointments: the king has brought me into closet: let us rejoice and be glad in thee; we will love thy breasts more than wine: righteousness loves thee.

Take me away with you.
Let us hurry.
The king has brought me into his rooms.

Take me away with you.
Let us hurry.
The king has brought me into his rooms.

5Sg 1:55μέλαινά εἰμι καὶ καλή θυγατέρες Ιερουσαλημ ὡς σκηνώματα Κηδαρ ὡς δέρρεις ΣαλωμωνSg 1:5
I am black, but beautiful, ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.

I am dark, but lovely,
you daughters of Jerusalem,
like Kedar’s tents,
like Solomon’s curtains.

I am dark, but lovely,
you daughters of Jerusalem,
like Kedar’s tents,
like Solomon’s curtains.
6Sg 1:66μὴ βλέψητέ με ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι μεμελανωμένη ὅτι παρέβλεψέν με ὁ ἥλιος υἱοὶ μητρός μου ἐμαχέσαντο ἐν ἐμοί ἔθεντό με φυλάκισσαν ἐν ἀμπελῶσιν ἀμπελῶνα ἐμὸν οὐκ ἐφύλαξαSg 1:6
Look not upon me, because I am dark, because the sun has looked unfavourably upon me: my mother's sons strove with me; they made me keeper in the vineyards; I have not kept my own vineyard.

Don’t stare at me because I am dark,
because the sun has scorched me.
My mother’s sons were angry with me.
They made me keeper of the vineyards.
I haven’t kept my own vineyard.
Sg 1:6Sg 1:6אַל־תִּרְא֙וּנִי֙ שֶׁאֲנִ֣י שְׁחַרְחֹ֔רֶת שֶׁשֱּׁזָפַ֖תְנִי הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ בְּנֵ֧י אִמִּ֣י נִֽחֲרוּ־בִ֗י שָׂמֻ֙נִי֙ נֹטֵרָ֣ה אֶת־הַכְּרָמִ֔ים כַּרְמִ֥י שֶׁלִּ֖י לֹ֥א נָטָֽרְתִּי׃Sg 1:6
Don’t stare at me because I am dark,
because the sun has scorched me.
My mother’s sons were angry with me.
They made me keeper of the vineyards.
I haven’t kept my own vineyard.
7Sg 1:77ἀπάγγειλόν μοι ὃν ἠγάπησεν ἡ ψυχή μου ποῦ ποιμαίνεις ποῦ κοιτάζεις ἐν μεσημβρίᾳ μήποτε γένωμαι ὡς περιβαλλομένη ἐπ’ ἀγέλαις ἑταίρων σουSg 1:7
Tell me, thou whom my soul loves, where thou tendest thy flock, where thou causest them to rest at noon, lest I become as one that is veiled by the flocks of thy companions.
Sg 1:7
Tell me, you whom my soul loves,
where you graze your flock,
where you rest them at noon;
For why should I be as one who is veiled
beside the flocks of your companions?

If thou know not thyself, thou fair one among women, go thou forth by the footsteps of the flocks, and feed thy kids by the shepherd's tents.
Sg 1:8
If you don’t know, most beautiful among women,
follow the tracks of the sheep.
Graze your young goats beside the shepherds’ tents.

If you don’t know, most beautiful among women,
follow the tracks of the sheep.

9Sg 1:99τῇ ἵππῳ μου ἐν ἅρμασιν Φαραω ὡμοίωσά σε ἡ πλησίον μουSg 1:9
I have likened thee, my companion, to my horses in the chariots of Pharao.

to a steed in Pharaoh’s chariots.

How are thy cheeks beautiful as those of a dove, thy neck as chains!

So long as the king was at table, my spikenard gave forth its smell.

My kinsman is to me a bundle of myrrh; he shall lie between my breasts.

My kinsman is to me a cluster of camphor in the vineyards of Engaddi.
