Then said Solomon, The Lord said that he would dwell in thick darkness.

¶Then Solomon said, “Yahweh has said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
2Chr 6:12Chr 6:1אָ֖ז אָמַ֣ר שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה יְהוָ֣ה אָמַ֔ר לִשְׁכּ֖וֹן בָּעֲרָפֶֽל׃2Chr 6:1
¶Then Solomon said, “Yahweh has said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
22Chr 6:22καὶ ἐγὼ ᾠκοδόμηκα οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἅγιόν σοι καὶ ἕτοιμον τοῦ κατασκηνῶσαι εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας2Chr 6:2
But I have built a house to thy name, holy to thee, and prepared for thee to dwell in for ever.
2Chr 6:2
But I have built you a house of habitation, and a place for you to dwell in forever.”
2Chr 6:22Chr 6:2וַֽאֲנִ֛י בָּנִ֥יתִי בֵית־זְבֻ֖ל לָ֑ךְ וּמָכ֥וֹן לְשִׁבְתְּךָ֖ עוֹלָמִֽים׃2Chr 6:2
But I have built you a house of habitation, and a place for you to dwell in forever.”
32Chr 6:33καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ εὐλόγησεν τὴν πᾶσαν ἐκκλησίαν Ισραηλ καὶ πᾶσα ἐκκλησία Ισραηλ παρειστήκει2Chr 6:3
And the king turned his face, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood by.

2Chr 6:32Chr 6:3וַיַּסֵּ֤ב הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ אֶת־פָּנָ֔יו וַיְבָ֕רֶךְ אֵ֖ת כָּל־קְהַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְכָל־קְהַ֥ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עוֹמֵֽד׃2Chr 6:3
¶The king turned his face, and blessed all the assembly of Israel: and all the assembly of Israel stood.
42Chr 6:44καὶ εἶπεν εὐλογητὸς κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ ὃς ἐλάλησεν ἐν στόματι αὐτοῦ πρὸς Δαυιδ τὸν πατέρα μου καὶ ἐν χερσὶν αὐτοῦ ἐπλήρωσεν λέγων2Chr 6:4
And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel: he has even fulfilled with his hands as he spoke with his mouth to my father David, saying,

He said, “Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David my father, and has with his hands fulfilled it, saying,
2Chr 6:42Chr 6:4וַיֹּ֗אמֶר בָּר֤וּךְ יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁר֙ דִּבֶּ֣ר בְּפִ֔יו אֵ֖ת דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֑י וּבְיָדָ֥יו מִלֵּ֖א לֵאמֹֽר׃2Chr 6:4
He said, “Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David my father, and has with his hands fulfilled it, saying,
52Chr 6:55ἀπὸ τῆς ἡμέρας ἧς ἀνήγαγον τὸν λαόν μου ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου οὐκ ἐξελεξάμην ἐν πόλει ἀπὸ πασῶν φυλῶν Ισραηλ τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι οἶκον τοῦ εἶναι ὄνομά μου ἐκεῖ καὶ οὐκ ἐξελεξάμην ἐν ἀνδρὶ τοῦ εἶναι εἰς ἡγούμενον ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν μου Ισραηλ2Chr 6:5
From the day when I brought up my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city of all the tribes of Israel, to build a house that my name should be there; neither did I choose a man to be a leader over my people Israel.

‘Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be prince over my people Israel:
2Chr 6:52Chr 6:5מִן־הַיּ֗וֹם אֲשֶׁ֨ר הוֹצֵ֣אתִי אֶת־עַמִּי֮ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַיִם֒ לֹא־בָחַ֣רְתִּֽי בְעִ֗יר מִכֹּל֙ שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֔יִת לִהְי֥וֹת שְׁמִ֖י שָׁ֑ם וְלֹא־בָחַ֣רְתִּֽי בְאִ֔ישׁ לִהְי֥וֹת נָגִ֖יד עַל־עַמִּ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃2Chr 6:5
‘Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be prince over my people Israel:
62Chr 6:66καὶ ἐξελεξάμην ἐν Ιερουσαλημ γενέσθαι τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐκεῖ καὶ ἐξελεξάμην ἐν Δαυιδ ὥστε εἶναι ἐπάνω τοῦ λαοῦ μου Ισραηλ2Chr 6:6
But I chose Jerusalem that my name should be there; and I chose David to be over my people Israel.

And it came into the heart of David my father, to build a house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.
2Chr 6:72Chr 6:7וַיְהִ֕י עִם־לְבַ֖ב דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֑י לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֔יִת לְשֵׁ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃2Chr 6:7
Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.
82Chr 6:88καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Δαυιδ πατέρα μου διότι ἐγένετο ἐπὶ καρδίαν σου τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματί μου καλῶς ἐποίησας ὅτι ἐγένετο ἐπὶ καρδίαν σου2Chr 6:8
But the Lord said to my father David, Whereas it came into thy heart to build a house for my name, thou didst well that it came into thy heart.

But Yahweh said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart:
2Chr 6:82Chr 6:8וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֔י יַ֗עַן אֲשֶׁ֤ר הָיָה֙ עִם־לְבָ֣בְךָ֔ לִבְנ֥וֹת בַּ֖יִת לִשְׁמִ֑י הֱ‍ֽטִיב֔וֹתָ כִּ֥י הָיָ֖ה עִם־לְבָבֶֽךָ׃2Chr 6:8
But Yahweh said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart:
92Chr 6:99πλὴν σὺ οὐκ οἰκοδομήσεις τὸν οἶκον ὅτι ὁ υἱός σου ὃς ἐξελεύσεται ἐκ τῆς ὀσφύος σου οὗτος οἰκοδομήσει τὸν οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματί μου2Chr 6:9
Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; for thy son who shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.

nevertheless you shall not build the house; but your son who shall come forth out of your body, he shall build the house for my name.’
2Chr 6:92Chr 6:9רַ֣ק אַתָּ֔ה לֹ֥א תִבְנֶ֖ה הַבָּ֑יִת כִּ֤י בִנְךָ֙ הַיּוֹצֵ֣א מֵֽחֲלָצֶ֔יךָ הֽוּא־יִבְנֶ֥ה הַבַּ֖יִת לִשְׁמִֽי׃2Chr 6:9
nevertheless you shall not build the house; but your son who shall come forth out of your body, he shall build the house for my name.’
102Chr 6:1010καὶ ἀνέστησεν κύριος τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ ὃν ἐλάλησεν καὶ ἐγενήθην ἀντὶ Δαυιδ πατρός μου καὶ ἐκάθισα ἐπὶ τὸν θρόνον Ισραηλ καθὼς ἐλάλησεν κύριος καὶ ᾠκοδόμησα τὸν οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματι κυρίου θεοῦ Ισραηλ2Chr 6:10
And the Lord has confirmed this word, which he spoke; and I am raised up in the room of my father David, and I sit upon the throne of Israel as the Lord said, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord God of Israel:

¶“Yahweh has performed his word that he spoke; for I have risen up in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised, and have built the house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.
2Chr 6:102Chr 6:10וַיָּ֣קֶם יְהוָ֔ה אֶת־דְּבָר֖וֹ אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֵּ֑ר וָאָק֡וּם תַּחַת֩ דָּוִ֨יד אָבִ֜י וָאֵשֵׁ֣ב ׀ עַל־כִּסֵּ֣א יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כַּאֲשֶׁר֙ דִּבֶּ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה וָאֶבְנֶ֣ה הַבַּ֔יִת לְשֵׁ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃2Chr 6:10
¶“Yahweh has performed his word that he spoke; for I have risen up in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised, and have built the house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.
112Chr 6:1111καὶ ἔθηκα ἐκεῖ τὴν κιβωτόν ἐν ᾗ ἐκεῖ διαθήκη κυρίου ἣν διέθετο τῷ Ισραηλ2Chr 6:11
and I have set there the ark in which is the covenant of the Lord, which he made with Israel.

There I have set the ark, in which is the covenant of Yahweh, which he made with the children of Israel.”
2Chr 6:112Chr 6:11וָאָשִׂ֥ים שָׁם֙ אֶת־הָ֣אָר֔וֹן אֲשֶׁר־שָׁ֖ם בְּרִ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר כָּרַ֖ת עִם־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃2Chr 6:11
There I have set the ark, in which is the covenant of Yahweh, which he made with the children of Israel.”
122Chr 6:1212καὶ ἔστη κατέναντι τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου κυρίου ἔναντι πάσης ἐκκλησίας Ισραηλ καὶ διεπέτασεν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ2Chr 6:12
And he stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread out his hands.

¶He stood before the altar of Yahweh in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands
132Chr 6:1313ὅτι ἐποίησεν Σαλωμων βάσιν χαλκῆν καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὴν ἐν μέσῳ τῆς αὐλῆς τοῦ ἱεροῦ πέντε πηχῶν τὸ μῆκος αὐτῆς καὶ πέντε πήχεων τὸ εὖρος αὐτῆς καὶ τριῶν πήχεων τὸ ὕψος αὐτῆς καὶ ἔστη ἐπ’ αὐτῆς καὶ ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ τὰ γόνατα ἔναντι πάσης ἐκκλησίας Ισραηλ καὶ διεπέτασεν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν2Chr 6:13
For Solomon had made a brazen scaffold, and set it in the midst of the court of the sanctuary; the length of it was five cubits, and the breadth of it five cubits, and the height of it three cubits: and he stood upon it, and fell upon his knees before the whole congregation of Israel, and spread abroad his hands to heaven,

(for Solomon had made a bronze scaffold, five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and on it he stood, and kneeled down on his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven;)

142Chr 6:1414καὶ εἶπεν κύριε ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ οὐκ ἔστιν ὅμοιός σοι θεὸς ἐν οὐρανῷ καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς φυλάσσων τὴν διαθήκην καὶ τὸ ἔλεος τοῖς παισίν σου τοῖς πορευομένοις ἐναντίον σου ἐν ὅλῃ καρδίᾳ2Chr 6:14
and said, Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in heaven, or on the earth; keeping covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with their whole heart.

and he said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven, or on earth; you who keep covenant and loving kindness with your servants, who walk before you with all their heart;
2Chr 6:142Chr 6:14וַיֹּאמַ֗ר יְהוָ֞ה אֱלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֵין־כָּמ֣וֹךָ אֱלֹהִ֔ים בַּשָּׁמַ֖יִם וּבָאָ֑רֶץ שֹׁמֵ֤ר הַבְּרִית֙ וְֽהַחֶ֔סֶד לַעֲבָדֶ֕יךָ הַהֹלְכִ֥ים לְפָנֶ֖יךָ בְּכָל־לִבָּֽם׃2Chr 6:14
and he said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven, or on earth; you who keep covenant and loving kindness with your servants, who walk before you with all their heart;
152Chr 6:1515ἃ ἐφύλαξας τῷ παιδί σου Δαυιδ τῷ πατρί μου ἃ ἐλάλησας αὐτῷ λέγων καὶ ἐλάλησας ἐν στόματί σου καὶ ἐν χερσίν σου ἐπλήρωσας ὡς ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη2Chr 6:15
Even as thou hast kept them with thy servant David my father, as thou hast spoken to him in words:—thou hast both spoken with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thy hands, as it is this day.

who have kept with your servant David my father that which you promised him: yes, you spoke with your mouth, and have fulfilled it with your hand, as it is this day.

162Chr 6:1616καὶ νῦν κύριε ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ φύλαξον τῷ παιδί σου τῷ Δαυιδ τῷ πατρί μου ἃ ἐλάλησας αὐτῷ λέγων οὐκ ἐκλείψει σοι ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ προσώπου μου καθήμενος ἐπὶ θρόνου Ισραηλ πλὴν ἐὰν φυλάξωσιν οἱ υἱοί σου τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτῶν τοῦ πορεύεσθαι ἐν τῷ νόμῳ μου ὡς ἐπορεύθης ἐναντίον μου2Chr 6:16
and now, Lord God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father the things which thou spokest to him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man before me sitting on the throne of Israel, if only thy sons will take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou didst walk before me.

¶“Now therefore, Yahweh, the God of Israel, keep with your servant David my father that which you have promised him, saying, ‘There shall not fail you a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your children take heed to their way, to walk in my law as you have walked before me.’
2Chr 6:162Chr 6:16וְעַתָּ֞ה יְהוָ֣ה ׀ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל שְׁ֠מֹר לְעַבְדְּךָ֨ דָוִ֤יד אָבִי֙ אֵת֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבַּ֤רְתָּ לּוֹ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לֹא־יִכָּרֵ֨ת לְךָ֥ אִישׁ֙ מִלְּפָנַ֔י יוֹשֵׁ֖ב עַל־כִּסֵּ֣א יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל רַ֠ק אִם־יִשְׁמְר֨וּ בָנֶ֜יךָ אֶת־דַּרְכָּ֗ם לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ בְּת֣וֹרָתִ֔י כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר הָלַ֖כְתָּ לְפָנָֽי׃2Chr 6:16
¶“Now therefore, Yahweh, the God of Israel, keep with your servant David my father that which you have promised him, saying, ‘There shall not fail you a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your children take heed to their way, to walk in my law as you have walked before me.’
172Chr 6:1717καὶ νῦν κύριε ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ πιστωθήτω δὴ τὸ ῥῆμά σου ὃ ἐλάλησας τῷ παιδί σου τῷ Δαυιδ2Chr 6:17
And now, Lord God of Israel, let, I pray thee, thy word be confirmed, which thou hast spoken to thy servant David.

Now therefore, Yahweh, the God of Israel, let your word be verified, which you spoke to your servant David.
2Chr 6:172Chr 6:17וְעַתָּ֕ה יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל יֵֽאָמֵן֙ דְּבָ֣רְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ לְעַבְדְּךָ֥ לְדָוִֽיד׃2Chr 6:17
Now therefore, Yahweh, the God of Israel, let your word be verified, which you spoke to your servant David.
182Chr 6:1818ὅτι εἰ ἀληθῶς κατοικήσει θεὸς μετὰ ἀνθρώπων ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς εἰ ὁ οὐρανὸς καὶ ὁ οὐρανὸς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ οὐκ ἀρκέσουσίν σοι καὶ τίς ὁ οἶκος οὗτος ὃν ᾠκοδόμησα2Chr 6:18
For will God indeed dwell with men upon the earth? if the heaven and the heaven of heavens will not suffice thee, what then is this house which I have built?

¶“But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house which I have built!
2Chr 6:182Chr 6:18כִּ֚י הַֽאֻמְנָ֔ם יֵשֵׁ֧ב אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶת־הָאָדָ֖ם עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ הִ֠נֵּה שָׁמַ֜יִם וּשְׁמֵ֤י הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ לֹ֣א יְכַלְכְּל֔וּךָ אַ֕ף כִּֽי־הַבַּ֥יִת הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּנִֽיתִי׃2Chr 6:18
¶“But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house which I have built!
192Chr 6:1919καὶ ἐπιβλέψῃ ἐπὶ τὴν προσευχὴν παιδός σου καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν δέησίν μου κύριε ὁ θεός τοῦ ἐπακοῦσαι τῆς δεήσεως καὶ τῆς προσευχῆς ἧς ὁ παῖς σου προσεύχεται ἐναντίον σου σήμερον2Chr 6:19
Yet thou shalt have respect to the prayer of thy servant, and to my petition, O Lord God, so as to hearken to the petition and the prayer which thy servant prays before thee this day:

Yet have respect for the prayer of your servant, and to his supplication, Yahweh my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which your servant prays before you;
2Chr 6:192Chr 6:19וּפָנִ֜יתָ אֶל־תְּפִלַּ֧ת עַבְדְּךָ֛ וְאֶל־תְּחִנָּת֖וֹ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֑י לִשְׁמֹ֤עַ אֶל־הָרִנָּה֙ וְאֶל־הַתְּפִלָּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַבְדְּךָ֖ מִתְפַּלֵּ֥ל לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃2Chr 6:19
Yet have respect for the prayer of your servant, and to his supplication, Yahweh my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which your servant prays before you;

then shalt thou hearken out of heaven, out of thy prepared dwelling-place, and shalt do according to all that the stranger shall call upon thee for; that all the nations of the earth may know thy name, and that they may fear thee, as thy people Israel do, and that they may know that thy name is called upon this house which I have built.

then hear from heaven, even from your dwelling place, and do according to all that the foreigner calls to you for; that all the peoples of the earth may know your name, and fear you, as does your people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by your name.
