He who keeps the law multiplies offerings. He who heeds the commandments sacrifices a peace offering.
22θυσιάζωνSir 35:2He that requiteth a good turn offereth fine flour; and he that giveth alms sacrificeth praise.Sir 35:2
He who returns a kindness offers fine flour. He who gives alms sacrifices a thank offering.
33ἐξιλασμὸςSir 35:3To depart from wickedness is a thing pleasing to the Lord; and to forsake unrighteousness is a propitiation.Sir 35:3
To depart from wickedness pleases the Lord. To depart from unrighteousness is an atoning sacrifice.
44Sir 35:4Thou shalt not appear empty before the Lord.Sir 35:4
See that you don’t appear in the presence of the Lord empty.
55Sir 35:5For all these things are to be done because of the commandment.Sir 35:5
For all these things are done because of the commandment.
66Sir 35:6The offering of the righteous maketh the altar fat, and the sweet savour thereof is before the most High.Sir 35:6
The offering of the righteous enriches the altar. The sweet fragrance of it is before the Most High.
77σμικρύνῃςSir 35:7The sacrifice of a just man is acceptable. and the memorial thereof shall never be forgotten.Sir 35:7
The sacrifice of a righteous man is acceptable. It won’t be forgotten.
88ἱλάρωσονSir 35:8Give the Lord his honour with a good eye, and diminish not the firstfruits of thine hands.Sir 35:8
Glorify the Lord with generosity. Don’t reduce the first fruits of your hands.
99εὕρεμαSir 35:9In all thy gifts shew a cheerful countenance, and dedicate thy tithes with gladness.Sir 35:9
In every gift show a cheerful countenance, And dedicate your tithe with gladness.
1010Sir 35:10Give unto the most High according as he hath enriched thee; and as thou hast gotten, give with a cheerful eye.Sir 35:10
Give to the Most High according as he has given. As your hand has found, give generously.
1111δωροκόπειSir 35:11For the Lord recompenseth, and will give thee seven times as much.Sir 35:11
For the Lord repays, and he will repay you sevenfold.
1212Sir 35:12Do not think to corrupt with gifts; for such he will not receive: and trust not to unrighteous sacrifices; for the Lord is judge, and with him is no respect of persons.Sir 35:12
Don’t plan to bribe him with gifts, for he will not receive them. Don’t set your mind on an unrighteous sacrifice, For the Lord is the judge, and with him is no respect of persons.
1313Sir 35:13He will not accept any person against a poor man, but will hear the prayer of the oppressed.Sir 35:13
He won’t accept any person against a poor man. He will listen to the prayer of him who is wronged.
1414ἱκετείανSir 35:14He will not despise the supplication of the fatherless; nor the widow, when she poureth out her complaint.Sir 35:14
He will in no way despise the supplication of the fatherless or the widow, when she pours out her tale.
1515καταβόησιςSir 35:15Do not the tears run down the widow's cheeks? and is not her cry against him that causeth them to fall?Sir 35:15
Don’t the tears of the widow run down her cheek? Isn’t her cry against him who has caused them to fall?
1616συνάψειSir 35:16He that serveth the Lord shall be accepted with favour, and his prayer shall reach unto the clouds.Sir 35:16
He who serves God according to his good pleasure will be accepted. His supplication will reach to the clouds.
1717συνεγγίσῃSir 35:17The prayer of the humble pierceth the clouds: and till it come nigh, he will not be comforted; and will not depart, till the most High shall behold to judge righteously, and execute judgment.Sir 35:17
The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds. until it comes near, he will not be comforted. He won’t depart until the Most High visits and he judges righteously and executes judgment.
1818Sir 35:18For the Lord will not be slack, neither will the Mighty be patient toward them, till he have smitten in sunder the loins of the unmerciful, and repayed vengeance to the heathen; till he have taken away the multitude of the proud, and broken the sceptre of the unrighteous;Sir 35:18
And the Lord will not be slack, neither will he be patient toward them, until he has crushed the loins of the unmerciful. He will repay vengeance to the heathen until he has taken away the multitude of the arrogant and broken in pieces the sceptres of the unrighteous,
1919Sir 35:19Till he have rendered to every man according to his deeds, and to the works of men according to their devices; till he have judged the cause of his people, and made them to rejoice in his mercy.Sir 35:19
