My son, pay attention to my wisdom.
Turn your ear to my understanding:

My son, attend to my wisdom, and apply thine ear to my words;

My son, pay attention to my wisdom.

2Prv 5:22לִשְׁמֹ֥ר מְזִמּ֑וֹת וְ֝דַ֗עַת שְׂפָתֶ֥יךָ יִנְצֹֽרוּ׃Prv 5:2
that you may maintain discretion,
that your lips may preserve knowledge.
Prv 5:2Prv 5:2ἵνα φυλάξῃς ἔννοιαν ἀγαθήν αἴσθησιν δὲ ἐμῶν χειλέων ἐντέλλομαί σοιPrv 5:2
that thou mayest keep good understanding, and the discretion of my lips gives thee a charge. Give no heed to a worthless woman;

that you may maintain discretion,

3Prv 5:33כִּ֤י נֹ֣פֶת תִּ֭טֹּפְנָה שִׂפְתֵ֣י זָרָ֑ה וְחָלָ֖ק מִשֶּׁ֣מֶן חִכָּֽהּ׃Prv 5:3
For the lips of an adulteress drip honey.
Her mouth is smoother than oil,
Prv 5:3Prv 5:3μὴ πρόσεχε φαύλῃ γυναικί μέλι γὰρ ἀποστάζει ἀπὸ χειλέων γυναικὸς πόρνης ἣ πρὸς καιρὸν λιπαίνει σὸν φάρυγγαPrv 5:3
for honey drops from the lips of a harlot, who for a season pleases thy palate:
Prv 5:3
For the lips of an adulteress drip honey.
Her mouth is smoother than oil,
4Prv 5:44וְֽ֭אַחֲרִיתָהּ מָרָ֣ה כַֽלַּעֲנָ֑ה חַ֝דָּ֗ה כְּחֶ֣רֶב פִּיּֽוֹת׃Prv 5:4
But in the end she is as bitter as wormwood,
and as sharp as a two-edged sword.
Prv 5:4Prv 5:4ὕστερον μέντοι πικρότερον χολῆς εὑρήσεις καὶ ἠκονημένον μᾶλλον μαχαίρας διστόμουPrv 5:4
but afterwards thou wilt find her more bitter than gall, and sharper than a two-edged sword.
Prv 5:4
But in the end she is as bitter as wormwood,
and as sharp as a two-edged sword.
5Prv 5:55רַ֭גְלֶיהָ יֹרְד֣וֹת מָ֑וֶת שְׁ֝א֗וֹל צְעָדֶ֥יהָ יִתְמֹֽכוּ׃Prv 5:5
Her feet go down to death.
Her steps lead straight to Sheol.
Prv 5:5Prv 5:5τῆς γὰρ ἀφροσύνης οἱ πόδες κατάγουσιν τοὺς χρωμένους αὐτῇ μετὰ θανάτου εἰς τὸν ᾅδην τὰ δὲ ἴχνη αὐτῆς οὐκ ἐρείδεταιPrv 5:5
For the feet of folly lead those who deal with her down to the grave with death; and her steps are not established.
Prv 5:5
Her feet go down to death.
Her steps lead straight to Sheol.
6Prv 5:66אֹ֣רַח חַ֭יִּים פֶּן־תְּפַלֵּ֑ס נָע֥וּ מַ֝עְגְּלֹתֶ֗יהָ לֹ֣א תֵדָֽע׃ פ Prv 5:6
She gives no thought to the way of life.
Her ways are crooked, and she doesn’t know it.
Prv 5:6Prv 5:6ὁδοὺς γὰρ ζωῆς οὐκ ἐπέρχεται σφαλεραὶ δὲ αἱ τροχιαὶ αὐτῆς καὶ οὐκ εὔγνωστοιPrv 5:6
For she goes not upon the paths of life; but her ways are slippery, and not easily known.
Prv 5:6
She gives no thought to the way of life.

7Prv 5:77וְעַתָּ֣ה בָ֭נִים שִׁמְעוּ־לִ֑י וְאַל־תָּ֝ס֗וּרוּ מֵאִמְרֵי־פִֽי׃Prv 5:7

Don’t depart from the words of my mouth.

Now then, my son, hear me, and make not my words of none effect.

Now therefore, my sons, listen to me.

8Prv 5:88הַרְחֵ֣ק מֵעָלֶ֣יהָ דַרְכֶּ֑ךָ וְאַל־תִּ֝קְרַ֗ב אֶל־פֶּ֥תַח בֵּיתָֽהּ׃Prv 5:8
Remove your way far from her.
Don’t come near the door of her house,
Prv 5:8Prv 5:8μακρὰν ποίησον ἀπ’ αὐτῆς σὴν ὁδόν μὴ ἐγγίσῃς πρὸς θύραις οἴκων αὐτῆςPrv 5:8
Remove thy way far from her; draw not near to the doors of her house:
Prv 5:8
Remove your way far from her.
Don’t come near the door of her house,
9Prv 5:99פֶּן־תִּתֵּ֣ן לַאֲחֵרִ֣ים הוֹדֶ֑ךָ וּ֝שְׁנֹתֶ֗יךָ לְאַכְזָרִֽי׃Prv 5:9
lest you give your honor to others,
and your years to the cruel one;
Prv 5:9Prv 5:9ἵνα μὴ πρόῃ ἄλλοις ζωήν σου καὶ σὸν βίον ἀνελεήμοσινPrv 5:9
lest thou give away thy life to others, and thy substance to the merciless:
Prv 5:9
lest you give your honor to others,
and your years to the cruel one;
10Prv 5:1010פֶּֽן־יִשְׂבְּע֣וּ זָרִ֣ים כֹּחֶ֑ךָ וַ֝עֲצָבֶ֗יךָ בְּבֵ֣ית נָכְרִֽי׃Prv 5:10
lest strangers feast on your wealth,
and your labors enrich another man’s house.
Prv 5:10Prv 5:10ἵνα μὴ πλησθῶσιν ἀλλότριοι σῆς ἰσχύος οἱ δὲ σοὶ πόνοι εἰς οἴκους ἀλλοτρίων εἰσέλθωσινPrv 5:10
lest strangers be filled with thy strength, and thy labours come into the houses of strangers;
Prv 5:10
lest strangers feast on your wealth,
and your labors enrich another man’s house.
11Prv 5:1111וְנָהַמְתָּ֥ בְאַחֲרִיתֶ֑ךָ בִּכְל֥וֹת בְּ֝שָׂרְךָ֗ וּשְׁאֵרֶֽךָ׃Prv 5:11
You will groan at your latter end,
when your flesh and your body are consumed,
Prv 5:11Prv 5:11καὶ μεταμεληθήσῃ ἐπ’ ἐσχάτων ἡνίκα ἂν κατατριβῶσιν σάρκες σώματός σουPrv 5:11
And thou repent at last, when the flesh of thy body is consumed,
Prv 5:11
You will groan at your latter end,
when your flesh and your body are consumed,
12Prv 5:1212וְֽאָמַרְתָּ֗ אֵ֭יךְ שָׂנֵ֣אתִי מוּסָ֑ר וְ֝תוֹכַ֗חַת נָאַ֥ץ לִבִּֽי׃Prv 5:12
and say, “How I have hated instruction,
and my heart despised reproof;
Prv 5:12Prv 5:12καὶ ἐρεῖς πῶς ἐμίσησα παιδείαν καὶ ἐλέγχους ἐξέκλινεν ἡ καρδία μουPrv 5:12
and thou shalt say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart avoided reproofs!
Prv 5:12
and say, “How I have hated instruction,
and my heart despised reproof;
13Prv 5:1313וְֽלֹא־שָׁ֭מַעְתִּי בְּק֣וֹל מוֹרָ֑י וְ֝לִֽמְלַמְּדַ֗י לֹא־הִטִּ֥יתִי אָזְנִֽי׃Prv 5:13
neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers,
nor turned my ear to those who instructed me!
Prv 5:13Prv 5:13οὐκ ἤκουον φωνὴν παιδεύοντός με καὶ διδάσκοντός με οὐδὲ παρέβαλλον τὸ οὖς μουPrv 5:13
I heard not the voice of him that instructed me, and taught me, neither did I apply mine ear.
Prv 5:13
neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers,
nor turned my ear to those who instructed me!
14Prv 5:1414כִּ֭מְעַט הָיִ֣יתִי בְכָל־רָ֑ע בְּת֖וֹךְ קָהָ֣ל וְעֵדָֽה׃Prv 5:14
I have come to the brink of utter ruin,
in the midst of the gathered assembly.”
Prv 5:14Prv 5:14παρ’ ὀλίγον ἐγενόμην ἐν παντὶ κακῷ ἐν μέσῳ ἐκκλησίας καὶ συναγωγῆςPrv 5:14
I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
Prv 5:14
I have come to the brink of utter ruin,
in the midst of the gathered assembly.”
15Prv 5:1515שְׁתֵה־מַ֥יִם מִבּוֹרֶ֑ךָ וְ֝נֹזְלִ֗ים מִתּ֥וֹךְ בְּאֵרֶֽךָ׃Prv 5:15
Drink water out of your own cistern,
running water out of your own well.
Prv 5:15Prv 5:15πῖνε ὕδατα ἀπὸ σῶν ἀγγείων καὶ ἀπὸ σῶν φρεάτων πηγῆςPrv 5:15
Drink waters out of thine own vessels, and out of thine own springing wells.
Prv 5:15
Drink water out of your own cistern,
running water out of your own well.
16Prv 5:1616יָפ֣וּצוּ מַעְיְנֹתֶ֣יךָ ח֑וּצָה בָּ֝רְחֹב֗וֹת פַּלְגֵי־מָֽיִם׃Prv 5:16
Should your springs overflow in the streets,
streams of water in the public squares?
Prv 5:16Prv 5:16μὴ ὑπερεκχείσθω σοι τὰ ὕδατα ἐκ τῆς σῆς πηγῆς εἰς δὲ σὰς πλατείας διαπορευέσθω τὰ σὰ ὕδαταPrv 5:16
Let not waters out of thy fountain be spilt by thee, but let thy waters go into thy streets.
Prv 5:16
Should your springs overflow in the streets,
streams of water in the public squares?
17Prv 5:1717יִֽהְיוּ־לְךָ֥ לְבַדֶּ֑ךָ וְאֵ֖ין לְזָרִ֣ים אִתָּֽךְ׃Prv 5:17
Let them be for yourself alone,
not for strangers with you.
Prv 5:17Prv 5:17ἔστω σοι μόνῳ ὑπάρχοντα καὶ μηδεὶς ἀλλότριος μετασχέτω σοιPrv 5:17
Let them be only thine own, and let no stranger partake with thee.

Let them be for yourself alone,
not for strangers with you.
18Prv 5:1818יְהִֽי־מְקוֹרְךָ֥ בָר֑וּךְ וּ֝שְׂמַ֗ח מֵאֵ֥שֶׁת נְעוּרֶֽךָ׃Prv 5:18
Let your spring be blessed.
Rejoice in the wife of your youth.
Prv 5:18Prv 5:18ἡ πηγή σου τοῦ ὕδατος ἔστω σοι ἰδία καὶ συνευφραίνου μετὰ γυναικὸς τῆς ἐκ νεότητός σουPrv 5:18
Let thy fountain of water be truly thine own; and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
Prv 5:18
Let your spring be blessed.
Rejoice in the wife of your youth.
19Prv 5:1919אַיֶּ֥לֶת אֲהָבִ֗ים וְֽיַעֲלַ֫ת־חֵ֥ן דַּ֭דֶּיהָ יְרַוֻּ֣ךָ בְכָל־עֵ֑ת בְּ֝אַהֲבָתָ֗הּ תִּשְׁגֶּ֥ה תָמִֽיד׃Prv 5:19
A loving doe and a graceful deer—
let her breasts satisfy you at all times.
Be captivated always with her love.
Prv 5:19Prv 5:19ἔλαφος φιλίας καὶ πῶλος σῶν χαρίτων ὁμιλείτω σοι ἡ δὲ ἰδία ἡγείσθω σου καὶ συνέστω σοι ἐν παντὶ καιρῷ ἐν γὰρ τῇ ταύτης φιλίᾳ συμπεριφερόμενος πολλοστὸς ἔσῃPrv 5:19
Let thy loving hart and thy graceful colt company with thee, and let her be considered thine own, and be with thee at all times; for ravished with her love thou shalt be greatly increased.
Prv 5:19

20Prv 5:2020וְלָ֤מָּה תִשְׁגֶּ֣ה בְנִ֣י בְזָרָ֑ה וּ֝תְחַבֵּ֗ק חֵ֣ק נָכְרִיָּֽה׃Prv 5:20
For why should you, my son, be captivated with an adulteress?
Why embrace the bosom of another?
Prv 5:20Prv 5:20μὴ πολὺς ἴσθι πρὸς ἀλλοτρίαν μηδὲ συνέχου ἀγκάλαις τῆς μὴ ἰδίαςPrv 5:20
Be not intimate with a strange woman, neither fold thyself in the arms of a woman not thine own.

For why should you, my son, be captivated with an adulteress?
Why embrace the bosom of another?
21Prv 5:2121כִּ֤י נֹ֨כַח ׀ עֵינֵ֣י יְ֭הוָה דַּרְכֵי־אִ֑ישׁ וְֽכָל־מַעְגְּלֹתָ֥יו מְפַלֵּֽס׃Prv 5:21
For the ways of man are before the eyes of Yahweh.
He examines all his paths.
Prv 5:21Prv 5:21ἐνώπιον γάρ εἰσιν τῶν τοῦ θεοῦ ὀφθαλμῶν ὁδοὶ ἀνδρός εἰς δὲ πάσας τὰς τροχιὰς αὐτοῦ σκοπεύειPrv 5:21
For the ways of a man are before the eyes of God, and he looks on all his paths.
Prv 5:21
For the ways of man are before the eyes of Yahweh.
He examines all his paths.
22Prv 5:2222עַֽווֹנוֹתָ֗יו יִלְכְּדֻנ֥וֹ אֶת־הָרָשָׁ֑ע וּבְחַבְלֵ֥י חַ֝טָּאת֗וֹ יִתָּמֵֽךְ׃Prv 5:22
The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him.
The cords of his sin hold him firmly.
Prv 5:22Prv 5:22παρανομίαι ἄνδρα ἀγρεύουσιν σειραῖς δὲ τῶν ἑαυτοῦ ἁμαρτιῶν ἕκαστος σφίγγεταιPrv 5:22
Iniquities ensnare a man, and every one is bound in the chains of his own sins.
Prv 5:22
The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him.
The cords entanglements of his sin hold him firmly.

He will die for lack of instruction.
In the greatness of his folly, he will go astray.
Prv 5:23Prv 5:23οὗτος τελευτᾷ μετὰ ἀπαιδεύτων ἐκ δὲ πλήθους τῆς ἑαυτοῦ βιότητος ἐξερρίφη καὶ ἀπώλετο δι’ ἀφροσύνηνPrv 5:23
Such a man dies with the uninstructed; and he is cast forth from the abundance of his own substance, and has perished through folly.
Prv 5:23
He will die for lack of instruction.
In the greatness of his folly, he will go astray.
