Listen, sons, to a father’s instruction.
Pay attention and know understanding;

Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

2Prv 4:22כִּ֤י לֶ֣קַח ט֭וֹב נָתַ֣תִּי לָכֶ֑ם תּֽ֝וֹרָתִ֗י אַֽל־תַּעֲזֹֽבוּ׃Prv 4:2
for I give you sound learning.
Don’t forsake my law.

For I give you a good gift; forsake ye not my law.

3Prv 4:33כִּי־בֵ֭ן הָיִ֣יתִי לְאָבִ֑י רַ֥ךְ וְ֝יָחִ֗יד לִפְנֵ֥י אִמִּֽי׃Prv 4:3
For I was a son to my father,
tender and an only child in the sight of my mother.

For I also was a son obedient to my father, and loved in the sight of my mother:

tender and an only child in the sight of my mother.
4Prv 4:44וַיֹּרֵ֗נִי וַיֹּ֥אמֶר לִ֗י יִֽתְמָךְ־דְּבָרַ֥י לִבֶּ֑ךָ שְׁמֹ֖ר מִצְוֹתַ֣י וֶֽחְיֵֽה׃Prv 4:4
He taught me, and said to me:
“Let your heart retain my words.
Keep my commandments, and live.
Prv 4:4Prv 4:4οἳ ἔλεγον καὶ ἐδίδασκόν με ἐρειδέτω ὁ ἡμέτερος λόγος εἰς σὴν καρδίανPrv 4:4
who spoke and instructed me, saying, Let our speech be fixed in thine heart, keep our commandments, forget them not:

He taught me, and said to me:
“Let your heart retain my words.
Keep my commandments, and live.
5Prv 4:55קְנֵ֣ה חָ֭כְמָה קְנֵ֣ה בִינָ֑ה אַל־תִּשְׁכַּ֥ח וְאַל־תֵּ֝֗ט מֵֽאִמְרֵי־פִֽי׃Prv 4:5
Get wisdom.
Get understanding.
Don’t forget, neither swerve from the words of my mouth.

6Prv 4:66אַל־תַּעַזְבֶ֥הָ וְתִשְׁמְרֶ֑ךָּ אֱהָבֶ֥הָ וְתִצְּרֶֽךָּ׃Prv 4:6
Don’t forsake her, and she will preserve you.
Love her, and she will keep you.
Prv 4:6Prv 4:6μηδὲ ἐγκαταλίπῃς αὐτήν καὶ ἀνθέξεταί σου ἐράσθητι αὐτῆς καὶ τηρήσει σεPrv 4:6

8Prv 4:88סַלְסְלֶ֥הָ וּֽתְרוֹמְמֶ֑ךָּ תְּ֝כַבֵּ֗דְךָ כִּ֣י תְחַבְּקֶֽנָּה׃Prv 4:8
Esteem her, and she will exalt you.
She will bring you to honor, when you embrace her.
Prv 4:8Prv 4:8περιχαράκωσον αὐτήν καὶ ὑψώσει σε τίμησον αὐτήν ἵνα σε περιλάβῃPrv 4:8
Secure it, and it shall exalt thee: honour it, that it may embrace thee;
Prv 4:8
Esteem her, and she will exalt you.
She will bring you to honor, when you embrace her.
9Prv 4:99תִּתֵּ֣ן לְ֭רֹאשְׁךָ לִוְיַת־חֵ֑ן עֲטֶ֖רֶת תִּפְאֶ֣רֶת תְּמַגְּנֶֽךָּ׃Prv 4:9
She will give to your head a garland of grace.
She will deliver a crown of splendor to you.”

Listen, my son, and receive my sayings.
The years of your life will be many.
Prv 4:10Prv 4:10ἄκουε υἱέ καὶ δέξαι ἐμοὺς λόγους καὶ πληθυνθήσεται ἔτη ζωῆς σου ἵνα σοι γένωνται πολλαὶ ὁδοὶ βίουPrv 4:10
Hear, my son, and receive my words; and the years of thy life shall be increased, that the resources of thy life may be many.

The years of your life will be many.
11Prv 4:1111בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ חָ֭כְמָה הֹרֵתִ֑יךָ הִ֝דְרַכְתִּ֗יךָ בְּמַעְגְּלֵי־יֹֽשֶׁר׃Prv 4:11
I have taught you in the way of wisdom.
I have led you in straight paths.
Prv 4:11Prv 4:11ὁδοὺς γὰρ σοφίας διδάσκω σε ἐμβιβάζω δέ σε τροχιαῖς ὀρθαῖςPrv 4:11
For I teach thee the ways of wisdom; and I cause thee to go in right paths.

I have taught you in the way of wisdom.
I have led you in straight paths.
12Prv 4:1212בְּֽ֭לֶכְתְּךָ לֹא־יֵצַ֣ר צַעֲדֶ֑ךָ וְאִם־תָּ֝ר֗וּץ לֹ֣א תִכָּשֵֽׁל׃Prv 4:12
When you go, your steps will not be hampered.
When you run, you will not stumble.
Prv 4:12Prv 4:12ἐὰν γὰρ πορεύῃ οὐ συγκλεισθήσεταί σου τὰ διαβήματα ἐὰν δὲ τρέχῃς οὐ κοπιάσειςPrv 4:12
For when thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not be distressed.
Prv 4:12
When you go, your steps will not be hampered.
When you run, you will not stumble.
13Prv 4:1313הַחֲזֵ֣ק בַּמּוּסָ֣ר אַל־תֶּ֑רֶף נִ֝צְּרֶ֗הָ כִּי־הִ֥יא חַיֶּֽיךָ׃Prv 4:13
Take firm hold of instruction.
Don’t let her go.
Keep her, for she is your life.
Prv 4:13Prv 4:13ἐπιλαβοῦ ἐμῆς παιδείας μὴ ἀφῇς ἀλλὰ φύλαξον αὐτὴν σεαυτῷ εἰς ζωήν σουPrv 4:13
Take hold of my instruction; let it not go, —but keep it for thyself for thy life.
Prv 4:13
Take firm hold of instruction.
Don’t let her go.
Keep her, for she is your life.
14Prv 4:1414בְּאֹ֣רַח רְ֭שָׁעִים אַל־תָּבֹ֑א וְאַל־תְּ֝אַשֵּׁ֗ר בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ רָעִֽים׃Prv 4:14
Don’t enter into the path of the wicked.
Don’t walk in the way of evil men.
Prv 4:14Prv 4:14ὁδοὺς ἀσεβῶν μὴ ἐπέλθῃς μηδὲ ζηλώσῃς ὁδοὺς παρανόμωνPrv 4:14
Go not in the ways of the ungodly, neither covet the ways of transgressors.

15Prv 4:1515פְּרָעֵ֥הוּ אַל־תַּעֲבָר־בּ֑וֹ שְׂטֵ֖ה מֵעָלָ֣יו וַעֲבֽוֹר׃Prv 4:15
Avoid it, and don’t pass by it.
Turn from it, and pass on.
Prv 4:15Prv 4:15ἐν ᾧ ἂν τόπῳ στρατοπεδεύσωσιν μὴ ἐπέλθῃς ἐκεῖ ἔκκλινον δὲ ἀπ’ αὐτῶν καὶ παράλλαξονPrv 4:15
In whatever place they shall pitch their camp, go not thither; but turn from them, and pass away.
Prv 4:15
Avoid it, and don’t pass by it.
Turn from it, and pass on.
16Prv 4:1616כִּ֤י לֹ֣א יִֽ֭שְׁנוּ אִם־לֹ֣א יָרֵ֑עוּ וְֽנִגְזְלָ֥ה שְׁ֝נָתָ֗ם אִם־לֹ֥א ‏{ יכשולו יַכְשִֽׁילוּ׃ }‏

Prv 4:16
For they don’t sleep, unless they do evil.
Their sleep is taken away, unless they make someone fall.
Prv 4:16Prv 4:16οὐ γὰρ μὴ ὑπνώσωσιν ἐὰν μὴ κακοποιήσωσιν ἀφῄρηται ὁ ὕπνος αὐτῶν καὶ οὐ κοιμῶνταιPrv 4:16
For they cannot sleep, unless they have done evil: their sleep is taken away, and they rest not.

17Prv 4:1717כִּ֣י לָ֭חֲמוּ לֶ֣חֶם רֶ֑שַׁע וְיֵ֖ין חֲמָסִ֣ים יִשְׁתּֽוּ׃Prv 4:17
For they eat the bread of wickedness,
and drink the wine of violence.
Prv 4:17Prv 4:17οἵδε γὰρ σιτοῦνται σῖτα ἀσεβείας οἴνῳ δὲ παρανόμῳ μεθύσκονταιPrv 4:17
For these live upon the bread of ungodliness, and are drunken with wine of transgression.
Prv 4:17
For they eat the bread of wickedness,
and drink the wine of violence.
18Prv 4:1818וְאֹ֣רַח צַ֭דִּיקִים כְּא֣וֹר נֹ֑גַהּ הוֹלֵ֥ךְ וָ֝א֗וֹר עַד־נְכ֥וֹן הַיּֽוֹם׃Prv 4:18
But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light,
that shines more and more until the perfect day.
Prv 4:18Prv 4:18αἱ δὲ ὁδοὶ τῶν δικαίων ὁμοίως φωτὶ λάμπουσιν προπορεύονται καὶ φωτίζουσιν ἕως κατορθώσῃ ἡ ἡμέραPrv 4:18
But the ways of the righteous shine like light; they go on and shine, until the day be fully come.
Prv 4:18
But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light,
that shines more and more until the perfect day.but the ways of the righteous are radiating like a light, they go before illuminating until the day is fully dawned.

Let them not depart from your eyes.
Keep them in the midst of your heart.

that thy fountains may not fail thee; keep them in thine heart.

Keep your heart with all diligence,
for out of it is the wellspring of life.

Keep thine heart with the utmost care; for out of these are the issues of life.

Put away from yourself a perverse mouth.
Put corrupt lips far from you.
Prv 4:24Prv 4:24περίελε σεαυτοῦ σκολιὸν στόμα καὶ ἄδικα χείλη μακρὰν ἀπὸ σοῦ ἄπωσαιPrv 4:24
Remove from thee a froward mouth, and put far away from thee unjust lips.

25Prv 4:2525עֵ֭ינֶיךָ לְנֹ֣כַח יַבִּ֑יטוּ וְ֝עַפְעַפֶּ֗יךָ יַיְשִׁ֥רוּ נֶגְדֶּֽךָ׃Prv 4:25
Let your eyes look straight ahead.
Fix your gaze directly before you.

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids assent to just things.

Let all of your ways be established.

Make straight paths for thy feet, and order thy ways aright.

27Prv 4:2727אַֽל־תֵּט־יָמִ֥ין וּשְׂמֹ֑אול הָסֵ֖ר רַגְלְךָ֣ מֵרָֽע׃Prv 4:27
Don’t turn to the right hand nor to the left.
Remove your foot from evil.
Prv 4:27Prv 4:27μὴ ἐκκλίνῃς εἰς τὰ δεξιὰ μηδὲ εἰς τὰ ἀριστερά ἀπόστρεψον δὲ σὸν πόδα ἀπὸ ὁδοῦ κακῆςPrv 4:27
Turn not aside to the right hand nor to the left, but turn away thy foot from an evil way: for God knows the ways on the right hand, but those on the left are crooked: and he will make thy ways straight, and will guide thy steps in peace.
Prv 4:27
Don’t turn to the right hand nor to the left.
Remove your foot from evil.
