A reprover is better than a stiff-necked man: for when the latter is suddenly set on fire, there shall be no remedy.
Prv 29:1

When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;
but when the wicked rule, the people groan.

Whoever loves wisdom brings joy to his father;
but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.

Whoever loves wisdom brings joy to his father;

The king by justice makes the land stable,

A righteous king establishes a country: but a transgressor destroys it.

5Prv 29:55גֶּ֭בֶר מַחֲלִ֣יק עַל־רֵעֵ֑הוּ רֶ֝֗שֶׁת פּוֹרֵ֥שׂ עַל־פְּעָמָֽיו׃Prv 29:5
A man who flatters his neighbor
spreads a net for his feet.
Prv 29:5Prv 29:5ὃς παρασκευάζεται ἐπὶ πρόσωπον τοῦ ἑαυτοῦ φίλου δίκτυον περιβάλλει αὐτὸ τοῖς ἑαυτοῦ ποσίνPrv 29:5
He that prepares a net in the way of his own friend, entangles his own feet in it.
Prv 29:5
A man who flatters his neighbor

6Prv 29:66בְּפֶ֤שַֽׁע אִ֣ישׁ רָ֣ע מוֹקֵ֑שׁ וְ֝צַדִּ֗יק יָר֥וּן וְשָׂמֵֽחַ׃Prv 29:6

but the righteous can sing and be glad.

The wicked aren’t concerned about knowledge.
Prv 29:7Prv 29:7ἐπίσταται δίκαιος κρίνειν πενιχροῖς ὁ δὲ ἀσεβὴς οὐ συνήσει γνῶσιν καὶ πτωχῷ οὐχ ὑπάρχει νοῦς ἐπιγνώμωνPrv 29:7
A righteous man knows how to judge for the poor: but the ungodly understands not knowledge; and the poor man has not an understanding mind.
Prv 29:7
The righteous care about justice for the poor.

9Prv 29:99אִֽישׁ־חָכָ֗ם נִ֭שְׁפָּט אֶת־אִ֣ישׁ אֱוִ֑יל וְרָגַ֥ז וְ֝שָׂחַ֗ק וְאֵ֣ין נָֽחַת׃Prv 29:9
If a wise man goes to court with a foolish man,
the fool rages or scoffs, and there is no peace.
Prv 29:9Prv 29:9ἀνὴρ σοφὸς κρίνει ἔθνη ἀνὴρ δὲ φαῦλος ὀργιζόμενος καταγελᾶται καὶ οὐ καταπτήσσειPrv 29:9
A wise man shall judge nations: but a worthless man being angry laughs and fears not.
Prv 29:9

The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity;
and they seek the life of the upright.

Bloody men hate a holy person, but the upright will seek his soul.
Prv 29:10
The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity;
and they seek the life of the upright.
11Prv 29:1111כָּל־ר֭וּחוֹ יוֹצִ֣יא כְסִ֑יל וְ֝חָכָ֗ם בְּאָח֥וֹר יְשַׁבְּחֶֽנָּה׃Prv 29:11
A fool vents all of his anger,
but a wise man brings himself under control.
Prv 29:11Prv 29:11ὅλον τὸν θυμὸν αὐτοῦ ἐκφέρει ἄφρων σοφὸς δὲ ταμιεύεται κατὰ μέροςPrv 29:11
A fool utters all is mind: but the wise reserves his in part.
Prv 29:11
A fool vents all of his anger,
but a wise man brings himself under control.
12Prv 29:1212מֹ֭שֵׁל מַקְשִׁ֣יב עַל־דְּבַר־שָׁ֑קֶר כָּֽל־מְשָׁרְתָ֥יו רְשָׁעִֽים׃Prv 29:12
If a ruler listens to lies,
all of his officials are wicked.
Prv 29:12Prv 29:12βασιλέως ὑπακούοντος λόγον ἄδικον πάντες οἱ ὑπ’ αὐτὸν παράνομοιPrv 29:12
When a king hearkens to unjust language, all his subjects are transgressors.
Prv 29:12
If a ruler listens to lies,

13Prv 29:1313רָ֤שׁ וְאִ֣ישׁ תְּכָכִ֣ים נִפְגָּ֑שׁוּ מֵ֤אִיר־עֵינֵ֖י שְׁנֵיהֶ֣ם יְהוָֽה׃Prv 29:13
The poor man and the oppressor have this in common:
Yahweh gives sight to the eyes of both.
Prv 29:13Prv 29:13δανιστοῦ καὶ χρεοφειλέτου ἀλλήλοις συνελθόντων ἐπισκοπὴν ποιεῖται ἀμφοτέρων ὁ κύριοςPrv 29:13
When the creditor and debtor meet together, the Lord oversees them both.
Prv 29:13
The poor man and the oppressor have this in common:

14Prv 29:1414מֶ֤לֶךְ שׁוֹפֵ֣ט בֶּֽאֱמֶ֣ת דַּלִּ֑ים כִּ֝סְא֗וֹ לָעַ֥ד יִכּֽוֹן׃Prv 29:14
The king who fairly judges the poor,
his throne shall be established forever.
Prv 29:14Prv 29:14βασιλέως ἐν ἀληθείᾳ κρίνοντος πτωχοὺς ὁ θρόνος αὐτοῦ εἰς μαρτύριον κατασταθήσεταιPrv 29:14
When a king judges the poor in truth, his throne shall be established for a testimony.
Prv 29:14
The king who fairly judges the poor,
his throne shall be established forever.
15Prv 29:1515שֵׁ֣בֶט וְ֭תוֹכַחַת יִתֵּ֣ן חָכְמָ֑ה וְנַ֥עַר מְ֝שֻׁלָּ֗ח מֵבִ֥ישׁ אִמּֽוֹ׃Prv 29:15
The rod of correction gives wisdom,
but a child left to himself causes shame to his mother.
Prv 29:15Prv 29:15πληγαὶ καὶ ἔλεγχοι διδόασιν σοφίαν παῖς δὲ πλανώμενος αἰσχύνει γονεῖς αὐτοῦPrv 29:15
Stripes and reproofs give wisdom: but an erring child disgraces his parents.
Prv 29:15

When the ungodly abound, sins abound: but when they fall, the righteous are warned.
Prv 29:16
When the wicked increase, sin increases;
but the righteous will see their downfall.
17Prv 29:1717יַסֵּ֣ר בִּ֭נְךָ וִֽינִיחֶ֑ךָ וְיִתֵּ֖ן מַעֲדַנִּ֣ים לְנַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃ פ Prv 29:17
Correct your son, and he will give you peace;
yes, he will bring delight to your soul.
Prv 29:17Prv 29:17παίδευε υἱόν σου καὶ ἀναπαύσει σε καὶ δώσει κόσμον τῇ ψυχῇ σουPrv 29:17
Chasten thy son, and he shall give thee rest; and he shall give honour to thy soul.
Prv 29:17
Correct your son, and he will give you peace;
yes, he will bring delight to your soul.
18Prv 29:1818בְּאֵ֣ין חָ֭זוֹן יִפָּ֣רַֽע עָ֑ם וְשֹׁמֵ֖ר תּוֹרָ֣ה אַשְׁרֵֽהוּ׃Prv 29:18
Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint;
but one who keeps the law is blessed.
Prv 29:18Prv 29:18οὐ μὴ ὑπάρξῃ ἐξηγητὴς ἔθνει παρανόμῳ ὁ δὲ φυλάσσων τὸν νόμον μακαριστόςPrv 29:18
There shall be no interpreter to a sinful nation: but he that observes the law is blessed.
Prv 29:18
Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint;
but one who keeps the law is blessed.By no means shall there be a leader to a lawless nation, but the one guarding the law is blessed.

A servant can’t be corrected by words.
Though he understands, yet he will not respond.

A stubborn servant will not be reproved by words: for even if he understands, still he will not obey.
Prv 29:19
A servant can’t be corrected by words.
Though he understands, yet he will not respond.
20Prv 29:2020חָזִ֗יתָ אִ֭ישׁ אָ֣ץ בִּדְבָרָ֑יו תִּקְוָ֖ה לִכְסִ֣יל מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃Prv 29:20
Do you see a man who is hasty in his words?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.
Prv 29:20Prv 29:20ἐὰν ἴδῃς ἄνδρα ταχὺν ἐν λόγοις γίνωσκε ὅτι ἐλπίδα ἔχει μᾶλλον ἄφρων αὐτοῦPrv 29:20
If thou see a man hasty in his words, know that the fool has hope rather than he.
Prv 29:20
Do you see a man who is hasty in his words?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.
21Prv 29:2121מְפַנֵּ֣ק מִנֹּ֣עַר עַבְדּ֑וֹ וְ֝אַחֲרִית֗וֹ יִהְיֶ֥ה מָנֽוֹן׃Prv 29:21
He who pampers his servant from youth
will have him become a son in the end.
Prv 29:21Prv 29:21ὃς κατασπαταλᾷ ἐκ παιδός οἰκέτης ἔσται ἔσχατον δὲ ὀδυνηθήσεται ἐφ’ ἑαυτῷPrv 29:21
He that lives wantonly from a child, shall be a servant, and in the end shall grieve over himself.
Prv 29:21
He who pampers his servant from youth

22Prv 29:2222אִֽישׁ־אַ֭ף יְגָרֶ֣ה מָד֑וֹן וּבַ֖עַל חֵמָ֣ה רַב־פָּֽשַׁע׃Prv 29:22

and a wrathful man abounds in sin.
Prv 29:22Prv 29:22ἀνὴρ θυμώδης ὀρύσσει νεῖκος ἀνὴρ δὲ ὀργίλος ἐξώρυξεν ἁμαρτίαςPrv 29:22
A furious man stirs up strife, and a passionate man digs up sin.
Prv 29:22
An angry man stirs up strife,
and a wrathful man abounds in sin.
23Prv 29:2323גַּאֲוַ֣ת אָ֭דָם תַּשְׁפִּילֶ֑נּוּ וּשְׁפַל־ר֝֗וּחַ יִתְמֹ֥ךְ כָּבֽוֹד׃Prv 29:23
A man’s pride brings him low,
but one of lowly spirit gains honor.
Prv 29:23Prv 29:23ὕβρις ἄνδρα ταπεινοῖ τοὺς δὲ ταπεινόφρονας ἐρείδει δόξῃ κύριοςPrv 29:23
Pride brings a man low, but the Lord upholds the humble-minded with honour.
Prv 29:23
A man’s pride brings him low,
but one of lowly spirit gains honor.
24Prv 29:2424חוֹלֵ֣ק עִם־גַּ֭נָּב שׂוֹנֵ֣א נַפְשׁ֑וֹ אָלָ֥ה יִ֝שְׁמַ֗ע וְלֹ֣א יַגִּֽיד׃Prv 29:24
Whoever is an accomplice of a thief is an enemy of his own soul.
He takes an oath, but dares not testify.
Prv 29:24Prv 29:24ὃς μερίζεται κλέπτῃ μισεῖ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ψυχήν ἐὰν δὲ ὅρκου προτεθέντος ἀκούσαντες μὴ ἀναγγείλωσινPrv 29:24
He that shares with a thief, hates his own soul: and if any having heard an oath uttered tell not of it,

25Prv 29:2525חֶרְדַּ֣ת אָ֭דָם יִתֵּ֣ן מוֹקֵ֑שׁ וּבוֹטֵ֖חַ בַּיהוָ֣ה יְשֻׂגָּֽב׃Prv 29:25
The fear of man proves to be a snare,
but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe.
Prv 29:25Prv 29:25φοβηθέντες καὶ αἰσχυνθέντες ἀνθρώπους ὑπεσκελίσθησαν ὁ δὲ πεποιθὼς ἐπὶ κύριον εὐφρανθήσεται ἀσέβεια ἀνδρὶ δίδωσιν σφάλμα ὃς δὲ πέποιθεν ἐπὶ τῷ δεσπότῃ σωθήσεταιPrv 29:25
they fearing and reverencing men unreasonably have been overthrown, but he that trusts in the Lord shall rejoice. Ungodliness causes a man to stumble: but he that trusts in his master shall be safe.

The fear of man proves to be a snare,
