Yahweh is the maker of them all.

An intelligent man seeing a bad man severely punished is himself instructed, but fools pass by and are punished.

is wealth, honor, and life.

The fear of the Lord is the offspring of wisdom, and wealth, and glory, and life.

5Prv 22:55צִנִּ֣ים פַּ֭חִים בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ עִקֵּ֑שׁ שׁוֹמֵ֥ר נַ֝פְשׁ֗וֹ יִרְחַ֥ק מֵהֶֽם׃Prv 22:5
Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked:
whoever guards his soul stays from them.

Thistles and snares are in perverse ways; but he that keeps his soul will refrain from them.

The rich will rule over the poor, and servants will lend to their own masters.

Prv 22:8
He who sows wickedness reaps trouble,
and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.
Prv 22:8Prv 22:8ὁ σπείρων φαῦλα θερίσει κακά πληγὴν δὲ ἔργων αὐτοῦ συντελέσειPrv 22:8
He that sows wickedness shall reap troubles; and shall fully receive the punishment of his deeds. God loves a cheerful and liberal man; but a man shall fully prove the folly of his works.

9Prv 22:99טֽוֹב־עַ֭יִן ה֣וּא יְבֹרָ֑ךְ כִּֽי־נָתַ֖ן מִלַּחְמ֣וֹ לַדָּֽל׃Prv 22:9
He who has a generous eye will be blessed;
for he shares his food with the poor.

He that has pity on the poor shall himself be maintained; for he has given of his own bread to the poor. He that gives liberally secures victory an honour; but he takes away the life of them that posses them.

Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out;
yes, quarrels and insults will stop.

Prv 22:11
He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully
is the king’s friend.

The Lord loves holy hearts, and all blameless persons are acceptable with him: a king rules with his lips.

but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.

But the eyes of the Lord preserve discretion; but the transgressor despises wise words.

13Prv 22:1313אָמַ֣ר עָ֭צֵל אֲרִ֣י בַח֑וּץ בְּת֥וֹךְ רְ֝חֹב֗וֹת אֵֽרָצֵֽחַ׃Prv 22:13
The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside!
I will be killed in the streets!”
Prv 22:13Prv 22:13προφασίζεται καὶ λέγει ὀκνηρός λέων ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς ἐν δὲ ταῖς πλατείαις φονευταίPrv 22:13
The sluggard makes excuses, and says, There is a lion in the ways, and murderers in the streets.

The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside!
I will be killed in the streets!”
14Prv 22:1414שׁוּחָ֣ה עֲ֭מֻקָּה פִּ֣י זָר֑וֹת זְע֥וּם יְ֝הוָ֗ה ‏{ יפול־ יִפָּל־ }‏ שָֽׁם׃

Prv 22:14
The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit:
he who is under Yahweh’s wrath will fall into it.
Prv 22:14Prv 22:14βόθρος βαθὺς στόμα παρανόμου ὁ δὲ μισηθεὶς ὑπὸ κυρίου ἐμπεσεῖται εἰς αὐτόνPrv 22:14
The mouth of a transgressor is a deep pit; and he that is hated of the Lord shall fall into it. Evil ways are before a man, and he does not like to turn away from them; but it is needful to turn aside from a perverse and bad way.

15Prv 22:1515אִ֭וֶּלֶת קְשׁוּרָ֣ה בְלֶב־נָ֑עַר שֵׁ֥בֶט מ֝וּסָ֗ר יַרְחִיקֶ֥נָּה מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃Prv 22:15
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child:
the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

Folly is attached to the heart of a child, but the rod and instruction are then far from him.

16Prv 22:1616עֹ֣שֵֽׁק דָּ֭ל לְהַרְבּ֣וֹת ל֑וֹ נֹתֵ֥ן לְ֝עָשִׁ֗יר אַךְ־לְמַחְסֽוֹר׃Prv 22:16
Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich,
both come to poverty.

He that oppresses the poor, increases his own substance, yet gives to the rich so as to make it less.

Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich,
both come to poverty.
17Prv 22:1717הַ֥ט אָזְנְךָ֗ וּ֭שְׁמַע דִּבְרֵ֣י חֲכָמִ֑ים וְ֝לִבְּךָ֗ תָּשִׁ֥ית לְדַעְתִּֽי׃Prv 22:17
Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise.
Apply your heart to my teaching.

Incline thine ear to the words of wise men: hear also my word, and apply thine heart,
Prv 22:17
Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise.
Apply your heart to my teaching.
18Prv 22:1818כִּֽי־נָ֭עִים כִּֽי־תִשְׁמְרֵ֣ם בְּבִטְנֶ֑ךָ יִכֹּ֥נוּ יַ֝חְדָּ֗ו עַל־שְׂפָתֶֽיךָ׃Prv 22:18
For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you,
if all of them are ready on your lips.

that thou mayest know that they are good: and if thou lay them to heart, they shall also gladden thee on thy lips.

For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you,

19Prv 22:1919לִהְי֣וֹת בַּ֭יהוָה מִבְטַחֶ֑ךָ הוֹדַעְתִּ֖יךָ הַיּ֣וֹם אַף־אָֽתָּה׃Prv 22:19
That your trust may be in Yahweh,
I teach you today, even you.
Prv 22:19Prv 22:19ἵνα σου γένηται ἐπὶ κύριον ἡ ἐλπὶς καὶ γνωρίσῃ σοι τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτοῦPrv 22:19
That thy hope may be in the Lord, and he may make thy way known to thee.

That your trust may be in Yahweh,
I teach you today, even you.
20Prv 22:2020הֲלֹ֤א כָתַ֣בְתִּי לְ֭ךָ ‏{ שלשום שָׁלִישִׁ֑ים }‏ בְּמ֖וֹעֵצֹ֣ת וָדָֽעַת׃

Prv 22:20
Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things
of counsel and knowledge,
Prv 22:20Prv 22:20καὶ σὺ δὲ ἀπόγραψαι αὐτὰ σεαυτῷ τρισσῶς εἰς βουλὴν καὶ γνῶσιν ἐπὶ τὸ πλάτος τῆς καρδίας σουPrv 22:20
And do thou too repeatedly record them for thyself on the table of thine heart, for counsel and knowledge.

To teach you truth, reliable words,
to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
Prv 22:21Prv 22:21διδάσκω οὖν σε ἀληθῆ λόγον καὶ γνῶσιν ἀγαθὴν ὑπακούειν τοῦ ἀποκρίνεσθαι λόγους ἀληθείας τοῖς προβαλλομένοις σοιPrv 22:21
I therefore teach thee truth, and knowledge good to hear; that thou mayest answer words of truth to them that question thee.

To teach you truth, reliable words,

22Prv 22:2222אַֽל־תִּגְזָל־דָּ֭ל כִּ֣י דַל־ה֑וּא וְאַל־תְּדַכֵּ֖א עָנִ֣י בַשָּֽׁעַר׃Prv 22:22
Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor;
and don’t crush the needy in court;

Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man,
and don’t associate with one who harbors anger:

Be not companion to a furious man; neither lodge with a passionate man:

25Prv 22:2525פֶּן־תֶּאֱלַ֥ף ‏{ ארחתו אֹֽרְחֹתָ֑יו }‏ וְלָקַחְתָּ֖ מוֹקֵ֣שׁ לְנַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃

Prv 22:25
lest you learn his ways,
and ensnare your soul.

lest thou learn of his ways, and get snares to thy soul.

26Prv 22:2626אַל־תְּהִ֥י בְתֹֽקְעֵי־כָ֑ף בַּ֝עֹרְבִ֗ים מַשָּׁאֽוֹת׃Prv 22:26
Don’t you be one of those who strike hands,
of those who are collateral for debts.

Become not surety from respect of a man's person.

27Prv 22:2727אִם־אֵֽין־לְךָ֥ לְשַׁלֵּ֑ם לָ֥מָּה יִקַּ֥ח מִ֝שְׁכָּבְךָ֗ מִתַּחְתֶּֽיךָ׃Prv 22:27
If you don’t have means to pay,
why should he take away your bed from under you?
Prv 22:27Prv 22:27ἐὰν γὰρ μὴ ἔχῃς πόθεν ἀποτείσῃς λήμψονται τὸ στρῶμα τὸ ὑπὸ τὰς πλευράς σουPrv 22:27
For if those have not whence to give compensation, they will take the bed that is under thee.

28Prv 22:2828אַל־תַּ֭סֵּג גְּב֣וּל עוֹלָ֑ם אֲשֶׁ֖ר עָשׂ֣וּ אֲבוֹתֶֽיךָ׃Prv 22:28
Don’t move the ancient boundary stone,
which your fathers have set up.
Prv 22:28Prv 22:28μὴ μέταιρε ὅρια αἰώνια ἃ ἔθεντο οἱ πατέρες σουPrv 22:28
Remove not the old landmarks, which thy fathers placed.
Prv 22:28
Don’t move the ancient boundary stone,
which your fathers have set up.
29Prv 22:2929חָזִ֡יתָ אִ֤ישׁ ׀ מָ֘הִ֤יר בִּמְלַאכְתּ֗וֹ לִֽפְנֵֽי־מְלָכִ֥ים יִתְיַצָּ֑ב בַּל־יִ֝תְיַצֵּב לִפְנֵ֥י חֲשֻׁכִּֽים׃ פ Prv 22:29
Do you see a man skilled in his work?
He will serve kings.
He won’t serve obscure men.
Prv 22:29Prv 22:29ὁρατικὸν ἄνδρα καὶ ὀξὺν ἐν τοῖς ἔργοις αὐτοῦ βασιλεῦσι δεῖ παρεστάναι καὶ μὴ παρεστάναι ἀνδράσι νωθροῖςPrv 22:29
It is fit that an observant man and one diligent in his business should attend on kings, and not attend on slothful men.

Do you see a man skilled in his work?
He will serve kings.
