Wise women build houses: but a foolish one digs hers down with her hands.

2Prv 14:22הוֹלֵ֣ךְ בְּ֭יָשְׁרוֹ יְרֵ֣א יְהוָ֑ה וּנְל֖וֹז דְּרָכָ֣יו בּוֹזֵֽהוּ׃Prv 14:2
He who walks in his uprightness fears Yahweh,
but he who is perverse in his ways despises him.

3Prv 14:33בְּֽפִי־אֱ֭וִיל חֹ֣טֶר גַּאֲוָ֑ה וְשִׂפְתֵ֥י חֲ֝כָמִ֗ים תִּשְׁמוּרֵֽם׃Prv 14:3
The fool’s talk brings a rod to his back,
but the lips of the wise protect them.

Out of the mouth of fools comes a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise preserve them.

4Prv 14:44בְּאֵ֣ין אֲ֭לָפִים אֵב֣וּס בָּ֑ר וְרָב־תְּ֝בוּא֗וֹת בְּכֹ֣חַ שֽׁוֹר׃Prv 14:4
Where no oxen are, the crib is clean,
but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

A truthful witness will not lie,
but a false witness pours out lies.

A faithful witness does not lie; but an unjust witness kindles falsehoods.

6Prv 14:66בִּקֶּשׁ־לֵ֣ץ חָכְמָ֣ה וָאָ֑יִן וְדַ֖עַת לְנָב֣וֹן נָקָֽל׃Prv 14:6
A scoffer seeks wisdom, and doesn’t find it,
but knowledge comes easily to a discerning person.
Prv 14:6Prv 14:6ζητήσεις σοφίαν παρὰ κακοῖς καὶ οὐχ εὑρήσεις αἴσθησις δὲ παρὰ φρονίμοις εὐχερήςPrv 14:6
Thou shalt seek wisdom with bad men, and shalt not find it; but discretion is easily available with the prudent.

A scoffer seeks wisdom, and doesn’t find it,
but knowledge comes easily to a discerning person.
7Prv 14:77לֵ֣ךְ מִ֭נֶּגֶד לְאִ֣ישׁ כְּסִ֑יל וּבַל־יָ֝דַ֗עְתָּ שִׂפְתֵי־דָֽעַת׃Prv 14:7
Stay away from a foolish man,
for you won’t find knowledge on his lips.

All things are adverse to a foolish man; but wise lips are the weapons of discretion.

8Prv 14:88חָכְמַ֣ת עָ֭רוּם הָבִ֣ין דַּרְכּ֑וֹ וְאִוֶּ֖לֶת כְּסִילִ֣ים מִרְמָֽה׃Prv 14:8
The wisdom of the prudent is to think about his way,
but the folly of fools is deceit.

The wisdom of the prudent will understand their ways; but the folly of fools leads astray.

9Prv 14:99אֱ֭וִלִים יָלִ֣יץ אָשָׁ֑ם וּבֵ֖ין יְשָׁרִ֣ים רָצֽוֹן׃Prv 14:9
Fools mock at making atonement for sins,
but among the upright there is good will.

The houses of transgressors will need purification; but the houses of the just are acceptable.

The heart knows its own bitterness and joy;
he will not share these with a stranger.

There is a way which seems right to a man,
but in the end it leads to death.

13Prv 14:1313גַּם־בִּשְׂח֥וֹק יִכְאַב־לֵ֑ב וְאַחֲרִיתָ֖הּ שִׂמְחָ֣ה תוּגָֽה׃Prv 14:13
Even in laughter the heart may be sorrowful,
and mirth may end in heaviness.

but the prudent man carefully considers his ways.

The simple believes every word: but the prudent man betakes himself to after-thought.

16Prv 14:1616חָכָ֣ם יָ֭רֵא וְסָ֣ר מֵרָ֑ע וּ֝כְסִ֗יל מִתְעַבֵּ֥ר וּבוֹטֵֽחַ׃Prv 14:16
A wise man fears, and shuns evil,
but the fool is hotheaded and reckless.
Prv 14:16Prv 14:16σοφὸς φοβηθεὶς ἐξέκλινεν ἀπὸ κακοῦ ὁ δὲ ἄφρων ἑαυτῷ πεποιθὼς μείγνυται ἀνόμῳPrv 14:16
A wise man fears, and departs from evil; but the fool trusts in himself, and joins himself with the transgressor.

A wise man fears, and shuns evil,
but the fool is hotheaded and reckless.
17Prv 14:1717קְֽצַר־אַ֭פַּיִם יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה אִוֶּ֑לֶת וְאִ֥ישׁ מְ֝זִמּ֗וֹת יִשָּׂנֵֽא׃Prv 14:17
He who is quick to become angry will commit folly,
and a crafty man is hated.
Prv 14:17Prv 14:17ὀξύθυμος πράσσει μετὰ ἀβουλίας ἀνὴρ δὲ φρόνιμος πολλὰ ὑποφέρειPrv 14:17
A passionate man acts inconsiderately; but a sensible man bears up under many things.

He who is quick to become angry will commit folly,

18Prv 14:1818נָחֲל֣וּ פְתָאיִ֣ם אִוֶּ֑לֶת וַֽ֝עֲרוּמִ֗ים יַכְתִּ֥רוּ דָֽעַת׃Prv 14:18

19Prv 14:1919שַׁח֣וּ רָ֭עִים לִפְנֵ֣י טוֹבִ֑ים וּ֝רְשָׁעִ֗ים עַֽל־שַׁעֲרֵ֥י צַדִּֽיק׃Prv 14:19
The evil bow down before the good,
and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
Prv 14:19Prv 14:19ὀλισθήσουσιν κακοὶ ἔναντι ἀγαθῶν καὶ ἀσεβεῖς θεραπεύσουσιν θύρας δικαίωνPrv 14:19
Evil men shall fall before the good; and the ungodly shall attend at the gates of the righteous.

The evil bow down before the good,
and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
20Prv 14:2020גַּם־לְ֭רֵעֵהוּ יִשָּׂ֣נֵא רָ֑שׁ וְאֹהֲבֵ֖י עָשִׁ֣יר רַבִּֽים׃Prv 14:20
The poor person is shunned even by his own neighbor,
but the rich person has many friends.
Prv 14:20Prv 14:20φίλοι μισήσουσιν φίλους πτωχούς φίλοι δὲ πλουσίων πολλοίPrv 14:20
Friends will hate poor friends; but the friends of the rich are many.

Prv 14:21
He who despises his neighbor sins,
but blessed is he who has pity on the poor.
Prv 14:21Prv 14:21ὁ ἀτιμάζων πένητας ἁμαρτάνει ἐλεῶν δὲ πτωχοὺς μακαριστόςPrv 14:21
He that dishonours the needy sins: but he that has pity on the poor is most blessed.

He who despises his neighbor sins,
but blessed is he who has pity on the poor.
22Prv 14:2222הֲ‍ֽלוֹא־יִ֭תְעוּ חֹ֣רְשֵׁי רָ֑ע וְחֶ֥סֶד וֶ֝אֱמֶ֗ת חֹ֣רְשֵׁי טֽוֹב׃Prv 14:22
Don’t they go astray who plot evil?
But love and faithfulness belong to those who plan good.
Prv 14:22Prv 14:22πλανώμενοι τεκταίνουσι κακά ἔλεον δὲ καὶ ἀλήθειαν τεκταίνουσιν ἀγαθοί οὐκ ἐπίστανται ἔλεον καὶ πίστιν τέκτονες κακῶν ἐλεημοσύναι δὲ καὶ πίστεις παρὰ τέκτοσιν ἀγαθοῖςPrv 14:22
They that go astray devise evils: but the good devise mercy and truth. The framers of evil do not understand mercy and truth: but compassion and faithfulness are with the framers of good.

Don’t they go astray who plot evil?
But love and faithfulness belong to those who plan good.
23Prv 14:2323בְּכָל־עֶ֭צֶב יִהְיֶ֣ה מוֹתָ֑ר וּדְבַר־שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם אַךְ־לְמַחְסֽוֹר׃Prv 14:23
In all hard work there is profit,
but the talk of the lips leads only to poverty.
Prv 14:23Prv 14:23ἐν παντὶ μεριμνῶντι ἔνεστιν περισσόν ὁ δὲ ἡδὺς καὶ ἀνάλγητος ἐν ἐνδείᾳ ἔσταιPrv 14:23
With every one who is careful there is abundance: but the pleasure-taking and indolent shall be in want.

In the fear of Yahweh is a secure fortress,
and he will be a refuge for his children.
Prv 14:26Prv 14:26ἐν φόβῳ κυρίου ἐλπὶς ἰσχύος τοῖς δὲ τέκνοις αὐτοῦ καταλείπει ἔρεισμαPrv 14:26
In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and he leaves his children a support.
Prv 14:26
In the fear of Yahweh is a secure fortress,
and he will be a refuge for his children.
27Prv 14:2727יִרְאַ֣ת יְ֭הוָה מְק֣וֹר חַיִּ֑ים לָ֝ס֗וּר מִמֹּ֥קְשֵׁי מָֽוֶת׃Prv 14:27
The fear of Yahweh is a fountain of life,
turning people from the snares of death.
Prv 14:27Prv 14:27πρόσταγμα κυρίου πηγὴ ζωῆς ποιεῖ δὲ ἐκκλίνειν ἐκ παγίδος θανάτουPrv 14:27
The commandment of the Lord is a fountain of life; and it causes men to turn aside from the snare of death.

The fear of Yahweh is a fountain of life,
turning people from the snares of death.
28Prv 14:2828בְּרָב־עָ֥ם הַדְרַת־מֶ֑לֶךְ וּבְאֶ֥פֶס לְ֝אֹ֗ם מְחִתַּ֥ת רָזֽוֹן׃Prv 14:28
In the multitude of people is the king’s glory,
but in the lack of people is the destruction of the prince.
Prv 14:28Prv 14:28ἐν πολλῷ ἔθνει δόξα βασιλέως ἐν δὲ ἐκλείψει λαοῦ συντριβὴ δυνάστουPrv 14:28
In a populous nation is the glory of a king: but in the failure of people is the ruin of a prince.

but in the lack of people is the destruction of the prince.
29Prv 14:2929אֶ֣רֶךְ אַ֭פַּיִם רַב־תְּבוּנָ֑ה וּקְצַר־ר֝֗וּחַ מֵרִ֥ים אִוֶּֽלֶת׃Prv 14:29
He who is slow to anger has great understanding,
but he who has a quick temper displays folly.
Prv 14:29Prv 14:29μακρόθυμος ἀνὴρ πολὺς ἐν φρονήσει ὁ δὲ ὀλιγόψυχος ἰσχυρῶς ἄφρωνPrv 14:29
A man slow to wrath abounds in wisdom: but a man of impatient spirit is very foolish.

The life of the body is a heart at peace,
but envy rots the bones.
Prv 14:30Prv 14:30πραΰθυμος ἀνὴρ καρδίας ἰατρός σὴς δὲ ὀστέων καρδία αἰσθητικήPrv 14:30
A meek-spirited man is a healer of the heart: but a sensitive heart is a corruption of the bones.
Prv 14:30
The life of the body is a heart at peace,
but envy rots the bones.The gentle mind of a man is the healer of the heart but the senual heart the moth to the bones.

31Prv 14:3131עֹ֣שֵֽׁק־דָּ֭ל חֵרֵ֣ף עֹשֵׂ֑הוּ וּ֝מְכַבְּד֗וֹ חֹנֵ֥ן אֶבְיֽוֹן׃Prv 14:31
He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker,
but he who is kind to the needy honors him.
Prv 14:31Prv 14:31ὁ συκοφαντῶν πένητα παροξύνει τὸν ποιήσαντα αὐτόν ὁ δὲ τιμῶν αὐτὸν ἐλεᾷ πτωχόνPrv 14:31
He that oppresses the needy provokes his Maker: but he that honours him has pity upon the poor.

32Prv 14:3232בְּֽ֭רָעָתוֹ יִדָּחֶ֣ה רָשָׁ֑ע וְחֹסֶ֖ה בְמוֹת֣וֹ צַדִּֽיק׃Prv 14:32

but in death, the righteous has a refuge.

35Prv 14:3535רְֽצוֹן־מֶ֭לֶךְ לְעֶ֣בֶד מַשְׂכִּ֑יל וְ֝עֶבְרָת֗וֹ תִּהְיֶ֥ה מֵבִֽישׁ׃Prv 14:35
The king’s favor is toward a servant who deals wisely,
but his wrath is toward one who causes shame.
