Then Baldad the Sauchite answered, and said,

2Jb 8:22עַד־אָ֥ן תְּמַלֶּל־אֵ֑לֶּה וְר֥וּחַ כַּ֝בִּיר אִמְרֵי־פִֽיךָ׃Jb 8:2
“How long will you speak these things?
Shall the words of your mouth be a mighty wind?
Jb 8:2Jb 8:2μέχρι τίνος λαλήσεις ταῦτα πνεῦμα πολυρῆμον τοῦ στόματός σουJb 8:2
How long wilt thou speak these things, how long shall the breath of thy mouth be abundant in words?
Jb 8:2
“How long will you speak these things?
Shall the words of your mouth be a mighty wind?
3Jb 8:33הַ֭אֵל יְעַוֵּ֣ת מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וְאִם־שַׁ֝דַּ֗י יְעַוֵּֽת־צֶֽדֶק׃Jb 8:3
Does God pervert justice?
Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness?
Jb 8:3Jb 8:3μὴ ὁ κύριος ἀδικήσει κρίνων ἢ ὁ τὰ πάντα ποιήσας ταράξει τὸ δίκαιονJb 8:3
Will the Lord be unjust when he judges; or will he that has made all things pervert justice?
Jb 8:3
Does God pervert justice?
Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness?
4Jb 8:44אִם־בָּנֶ֥יךָ חָֽטְאוּ־ל֑וֹ וַֽ֝יְשַׁלְּחֵ֗ם בְּיַד־פִּשְׁעָֽם׃Jb 8:4
If your children have sinned against him,
He has delivered them into the hand of their disobedience.
Jb 8:4Jb 8:4εἰ οἱ υἱοί σου ἥμαρτον ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ ἀπέστειλεν ἐν χειρὶ ἀνομίας αὐτῶνJb 8:4
If thy sons have sinned before him, he has cast them away because of their transgression.
Jb 8:4
If your children have sinned against him,
He has delivered them into the hand of their disobedience.
5Jb 8:55אִם־אַ֭תָּה תְּשַׁחֵ֣ר אֶל־אֵ֑ל וְאֶל־שַׁ֝דַּ֗י תִּתְחַנָּֽן׃Jb 8:5
If you want to seek God diligently,
make your supplication to the Almighty.
Jb 8:5Jb 8:5σὺ δὲ ὄρθριζε πρὸς κύριον παντοκράτορα δεόμενοςJb 8:5
But be thou early in prayer to the Lord Almighty.

6Jb 8:66אִם־זַ֥ךְ וְיָשָׁ֗ר אָ֥תָּה כִּי־עַ֭תָּה יָעִ֣יר עָלֶ֑יךָ וְ֝שִׁלַּ֗ם נְוַ֣ת צִדְקֶֽךָ׃Jb 8:6
If you were pure and upright,
surely now he would awaken for you,
and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous.
Jb 8:6Jb 8:6εἰ καθαρὸς εἶ καὶ ἀληθινός δεήσεως ἐπακούσεταί σου ἀποκαταστήσει δέ σοι δίαιταν δικαιοσύνηςJb 8:6
If thou art pure and true, he will hearken to thy supplication, and will restore to thee the habitation of righteousness.
Jb 8:6
If you were pure and upright,
surely now he would awaken for you,
and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous.
7Jb 8:77וְהָיָ֣ה רֵאשִׁיתְךָ֣ מִצְעָ֑ר וְ֝אַחֲרִיתְךָ֗ יִשְׂגֶּ֥ה מְאֹֽד׃Jb 8:7
Though your beginning was small,
yet your latter end would greatly increase.
Jb 8:7Jb 8:7ἔσται οὖν τὰ μὲν πρῶτά σου ὀλίγα τὰ δὲ ἔσχατά σου ἀμύθηταJb 8:7
Though then thy beginning should be small, yet thy end should be unspeakably great.
Jb 8:7
Though your beginning was small,
yet your latter end would greatly increase.
8Jb 8:88כִּֽי־שְׁאַל־נָ֭א לְדֹ֣ר רִישׁ֑וֹן וְ֝כוֹנֵ֗ן לְחֵ֣קֶר אֲבוֹתָֽם׃Jb 8:8
“Please inquire of past generations.
Find out about the learning of their fathers.
Jb 8:8Jb 8:8ἐπερώτησον γὰρ γενεὰν πρώτην ἐξιχνίασον δὲ κατὰ γένος πατέρωνJb 8:8
For ask of the former generation, and search diligently among the race of our fathers:

“Please inquire of past generations.

9Jb 8:99כִּֽי־תְמ֣וֹל אֲ֭נַחְנוּ וְלֹ֣א נֵדָ֑ע כִּ֤י צֵ֖ל יָמֵ֣ינוּ עֲלֵי־אָֽרֶץ׃Jb 8:9
(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing,
because our days on earth are a shadow.)
Jb 8:9Jb 8:9χθιζοὶ γάρ ἐσμεν καὶ οὐκ οἴδαμεν σκιὰ γάρ ἐστιν ἡμῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ὁ βίοςJb 8:9
(for we are of yesterday, and know nothing; for our life upon the earth is a shadow:)
Jb 8:9
(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing,
because our days on earth are a shadow.)
10Jb 8:1010הֲלֹא־הֵ֣ם י֭וֹרוּךָ יֹ֣אמְרוּ לָ֑ךְ וּ֝מִלִּבָּ֗ם יוֹצִ֥אוּ מִלִּֽים׃Jb 8:10
Shall they not teach you, tell you,
and utter words out of their heart?
Jb 8:10Jb 8:10ἦ οὐχ οὗτοί σε διδάξουσιν καὶ ἀναγγελοῦσιν καὶ ἐκ καρδίας ἐξάξουσιν ῥήματαJb 8:10
shall not these teach thee, and report to thee, and bring out words from their heart?
Jb 8:10
Shall they not teach you, tell you,
and utter words out of their heart?
11Jb 8:1111הֲיִֽגְאֶה־גֹּ֭מֶא בְּלֹ֣א בִצָּ֑ה יִשְׂגֶּה־אָ֥חוּ בְלִי־מָֽיִם׃Jb 8:11
“Can the papyrus grow up without mire?
Can the rushes grow without water?
Jb 8:11Jb 8:11μὴ θάλλει πάπυρος ἄνευ ὕδατος ἢ ὑψωθήσεται βούτομον ἄνευ πότουJb 8:11
Does the rush flourish without water, or shall the flag grow up without moisture?
Jb 8:11
“Can the papyrus grow up without mire?
Can the rushes grow without water?
12Jb 8:1212עֹדֶ֣נּוּ בְ֭אִבּוֹ לֹ֣א יִקָּטֵ֑ף וְלִפְנֵ֖י כָל־חָצִ֣יר יִיבָֽשׁ׃Jb 8:12
While it is yet in its greenness, not cut down,
it withers before any other reed.
Jb 8:12Jb 8:12ἔτι ὂν ἐπὶ ῥίζης καὶ οὐ μὴ θερισθῇ πρὸ τοῦ πιεῖν πᾶσα βοτάνη οὐχὶ ξηραίνεταιJb 8:12
When it is yet on the root, and though it has not been cut down, does not any herb wither before it has received moisture?
Jb 8:12
While it is yet in its greenness, not cut down,
it withers before any other reed.
13Jb 8:1313כֵּ֗ן אָ֭רְחוֹת כָּל־שֹׁ֣כְחֵי אֵ֑ל וְתִקְוַ֖ת חָנֵ֣ף תֹּאבֵֽד׃Jb 8:13
So are the paths of all who forget God.
The hope of the godless man shall perish,
Jb 8:13Jb 8:13οὕτως τοίνυν ἔσται τὰ ἔσχατα πάντων τῶν ἐπιλανθανομένων τοῦ κυρίου ἐλπὶς γὰρ ἀσεβοῦς ἀπολεῖταιJb 8:13
Thus then shall be the end of all that forget the Lord: for the hope of the ungodly shall perish.
Jb 8:13
So are the paths of all who forget God.
The hope of the godless man shall perish,
14Jb 8:1414אֲשֶׁר־יָק֥וֹט כִּסְל֑וֹ וּבֵ֥ית עַ֝כָּבִ֗ישׁ מִבְטַחֽוֹ׃Jb 8:14
Whose confidence shall break apart,
Whose trust is a spider’s web.
Jb 8:14Jb 8:14ἀοίκητος γὰρ αὐτοῦ ἔσται ὁ οἶκος ἀράχνη δὲ αὐτοῦ ἀποβήσεται ἡ σκηνήJb 8:14
For his house shall be without inhabitants, and his tent shall prove a spider's web.
Jb 8:14
Whose confidence shall break apart,
Whose trust is a spider’s web.
15Jb 8:1515יִשָּׁעֵ֣ן עַל־בֵּ֭יתוֹ וְלֹ֣א יַעֲמֹ֑ד יַחֲזִ֥יק בּ֝֗וֹ וְלֹ֣א יָקֽוּם׃Jb 8:15
He shall lean on his house, but it shall not stand.
He shall cling to it, but it shall not endure.
Jb 8:15Jb 8:15ἐὰν ὑπερείσῃ τὴν οἰκίαν αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ στῇ ἐπιλαβομένου δὲ αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ ὑπομείνῃJb 8:15
If he should prop up his house, it shall not stand: and when he has taken hold of it, it shall not remain.
Jb 8:15
He shall lean on his house, but it shall not stand.
He shall cling to it, but it shall not endure.
16Jb 8:1616רָטֹ֣ב ה֭וּא לִפְנֵי־שָׁ֑מֶשׁ וְעַ֥ל גַּ֝נָּת֗וֹ יֹֽנַקְתּ֥וֹ תֵצֵֽא׃Jb 8:16
He is green before the sun.
His shoots go forth over his garden.
Jb 8:16Jb 8:16ὑγρὸς γάρ ἐστιν ὑπὸ ἡλίου καὶ ἐκ σαπρίας αὐτοῦ ὁ ῥάδαμνος αὐτοῦ ἐξελεύσεταιJb 8:16
For it is moist under the sun, and his branch shall come forth out of his dung-heap.
Jb 8:16
He is green before the sun.
His shoots go forth over his garden.
17Jb 8:1717עַל־גַּ֭ל שָֽׁרָשָׁ֣יו יְסֻבָּ֑כוּ בֵּ֖ית אֲבָנִ֣ים יֶחֱזֶֽה׃Jb 8:17
His roots are wrapped around the rock pile.
He sees the place of stones.
Jb 8:17Jb 8:17ἐπὶ συναγωγὴν λίθων κοιμᾶται ἐν δὲ μέσῳ χαλίκων ζήσεταιJb 8:17
He lies down upon a gathering of stones, and shall live in the mist of flints.
Jb 8:17
His roots are wrapped around the rock pile.
He sees the place of stones.
18Jb 8:1818אִם־יְבַלְּעֶ֥נּוּ מִמְּקוֹמ֑וֹ וְכִ֥חֶשׁ בּ֝֗וֹ לֹ֣א רְאִיתִֽיךָ׃Jb 8:18
If he is destroyed from his place,
then it shall deny him, saying, ‘I have not seen you.’
Jb 8:18Jb 8:18ἐὰν καταπίῃ ὁ τόπος ψεύσεται αὐτόν οὐχ ἑόρακας τοιαῦταJb 8:18
If God should destroy him, his place shall deny him. Hast thou not seen such things,
Jb 8:18
If he is destroyed from his place,
then it shall deny him, saying, ‘I have not seen you.’
19Jb 8:1919הֶן־ה֭וּא מְשׂ֣וֹשׂ דַּרְכּ֑וֹ וּ֝מֵעָפָ֗ר אַחֵ֥ר יִצְמָֽחוּ׃Jb 8:19
Behold, this is the joy of his way:
out of the earth, others shall spring.
Jb 8:19Jb 8:19ὅτι καταστροφὴ ἀσεβοῦς τοιαύτη ἐκ δὲ γῆς ἄλλον ἀναβλαστήσειJb 8:19
that such is the overthrow of the ungodly? and out of the earth another shall grow.
Jb 8:19
Behold, this is the joy of his way:
out of the earth, others shall spring.
20Jb 8:2020הֶן־אֵ֭ל לֹ֣א יִמְאַס־תָּ֑ם וְלֹֽא־יַ֝חֲזִ֗יק בְּיַד־מְרֵעִֽים׃Jb 8:20
“Behold, God will not cast away a blameless man,
neither will he uphold the evildoers.
Jb 8:20Jb 8:20ὁ γὰρ κύριος οὐ μὴ ἀποποιήσηται τὸν ἄκακον πᾶν δὲ δῶρον ἀσεβοῦς οὐ δέξεταιJb 8:20
For the Lord will by no means reject the harmless man; but he will not receive any gift of the ungodly.
Jb 8:20
“Behold, God will not cast away a blameless man,
neither will he uphold the evildoers.
21Jb 8:2121עַד־יְמַלֵּ֣ה שְׂח֣וֹק פִּ֑יךָ וּשְׂפָתֶ֥יךָ תְרוּעָֽה׃Jb 8:21
He will still fill your mouth with laughter,
your lips with shouting.
Jb 8:21Jb 8:21ἀληθινῶν δὲ στόμα ἐμπλήσει γέλωτος τὰ δὲ χείλη αὐτῶν ἐξομολογήσεωςJb 8:21
But he will fill with laughter the mouth of the sincere, and their lips with thanksgiving.
Jb 8:21
He will still fill your mouth with laughter,
your lips with shouting.
22Jb 8:2222שֹׂנְאֶ֥יךָ יִלְבְּשׁוּ־בֹ֑שֶׁת וְאֹ֖הֶל רְשָׁעִ֣ים אֵינֶֽנּוּ׃ פ Jb 8:22
Those who hate you shall be clothed with shame.
The tent of the wicked shall be no more.”
Jb 8:22Jb 8:22οἱ δὲ ἐχθροὶ αὐτῶν ἐνδύσονται αἰσχύνην δίαιτα δὲ ἀσεβοῦς οὐκ ἔσταιJb 8:22
But their adversaries shall clothe themselves with shame; and the habitation of the ungodly shall perish.
Jb 8:22
Those who hate you shall be clothed with shame.
The tent of the wicked shall be no more.”
