Jb 7:1
“Isn’t a man forced to labor on earth?
Aren’t his days like the days of a hired hand?
Jb 7:1Jb 7:1πότερον οὐχὶ πειρατήριόν ἐστιν ὁ βίος ἀνθρώπου ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ ὥσπερ μισθίου αὐθημερινοῦ ἡ ζωὴ αὐτοῦJb 7:1
Is not the life of man upon earth a state of trial? and his existence as that of a hireling by the day?
Jb 7:1
“Isn’t a man forced to labor on earth?

2Jb 7:22כְּעֶ֥בֶד יִשְׁאַף־צֵ֑ל וּ֝כְשָׂכִ֗יר יְקַוֶּ֥ה פָעֳלֽוֹ׃Jb 7:2
As a servant who earnestly desires the shadow,
as a hireling who looks for his wages,
Jb 7:2Jb 7:2ἢ ὥσπερ θεράπων δεδοικὼς τὸν κύριον αὐτοῦ καὶ τετευχὼς σκιᾶς ἢ ὥσπερ μισθωτὸς ἀναμένων τὸν μισθὸν αὐτοῦJb 7:2
Or as a servant that fears his master, and one who has grasped a shadow? or as a hireling waiting for his pay?
Jb 7:2
As a servant who earnestly desires the shadow,
as a hireling who looks for his wages,
3Jb 7:33כֵּ֤ן הָנְחַ֣לְתִּי לִ֭י יַרְחֵי־שָׁ֑וְא וְלֵיל֥וֹת עָ֝מָ֗ל מִנּוּ־לִֽי׃Jb 7:3
so am I made to possess months of misery,
wearisome nights are appointed to me.
Jb 7:3Jb 7:3οὕτως κἀγὼ ὑπέμεινα μῆνας κενούς νύκτες δὲ ὀδυνῶν δεδομέναι μοί εἰσινJb 7:3
So have I also endured months of vanity, and nights of pain have been appointed me.
Jb 7:3
so am I made to possess months of misery,
wearisome nights are appointed to me.
4Jb 7:44אִם־שָׁכַ֗בְתִּי וְאָמַ֗רְתִּי מָתַ֣י אָ֭קוּם וּמִדַּד־עָ֑רֶב וְשָׂבַ֖עְתִּי נְדֻדִ֣ים עֲדֵי־נָֽשֶׁף׃Jb 7:4
When I lie down, I say,
‘When shall I arise, and the night be gone?’
I toss and turn until the dawning of the day.
Jb 7:4Jb 7:4ἐὰν κοιμηθῶ λέγω πότε ἡμέρα ὡς δ’ ἂν ἀναστῶ πάλιν πότε ἑσπέρα πλήρης δὲ γίνομαι ὀδυνῶν ἀπὸ ἑσπέρας ἕως πρωίJb 7:4
Whenever I lie down, I say, When will it be day? and whenever I rise up, again I say when will it be evening? and I am full of pains from evening to morning.
Jb 7:4
When I lie down, I say,
‘When shall I arise, and the night be gone?’
I toss and turn until the dawning of the day.
5Jb 7:55לָ֘בַ֤שׁ בְּשָׂרִ֣י רִ֭מָּה ‏{ וגיש וְג֣וּשׁ }‏ עָפָ֑ר עוֹרִ֥י רָ֝גַ֗ע וַיִּמָּאֵֽס׃

Jb 7:5
My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust.
My skin closes up, and breaks out afresh.
Jb 7:5Jb 7:5φύρεται δέ μου τὸ σῶμα ἐν σαπρίᾳ σκωλήκων τήκω δὲ βώλακας γῆς ἀπὸ ἰχῶρος ξύωνJb 7:5
And my body is covered with loathsome worms; and I waste away, scraping off clods of dust from my eruption.
Jb 7:5
My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust.

6Jb 7:66יָמַ֣י קַ֭לּוּ מִנִּי־אָ֑רֶג וַ֝יִּכְל֗וּ בְּאֶ֣פֶס תִּקְוָֽה׃Jb 7:6
My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle,
and are spent without hope.
Jb 7:6Jb 7:6ὁ δὲ βίος μού ἐστιν ἐλαφρότερος λαλιᾶς ἀπόλωλεν δὲ ἐν κενῇ ἐλπίδιJb 7:6
And my life is lighter than a word, and has perished in vain hope.
Jb 7:6
My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle,
and are spent without hope.
7Jb 7:77זְ֭כֹר כִּי־ר֣וּחַ חַיָּ֑י לֹא־תָשׁ֥וּב עֵ֝ינִ֗י לִרְא֥וֹת טֽוֹב׃Jb 7:7
Oh remember that my life is a breath.
My eye shall no more see good.
Jb 7:7Jb 7:7μνήσθητι οὖν ὅτι πνεῦμά μου ἡ ζωὴ καὶ οὐκέτι ἐπανελεύσεται ὁ ὀφθαλμός μου ἰδεῖν ἀγαθόνJb 7:7
Remember then that my life is breath, and mine eye shalt not yet again see good.
Jb 7:7
Oh remember that my life is a breath.
My eye shall no more see good.
8Jb 7:88לֹֽא־תְ֭שׁוּרֵנִי עֵ֣ין רֹ֑אִי עֵינֶ֖יךָ בִּ֣י וְאֵינֶֽנִּי׃Jb 7:8
The eye of him who sees me shall see me no more.
Your eyes shall be on me, but I shall not be.
Jb 7:8Jb 7:8οὐ περιβλέψεταί με ὀφθαλμὸς ὁρῶντός με οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου ἐν ἐμοί καὶ οὐκέτι εἰμὶJb 7:8
The eye of him that sees me shall not see me again: thine eyes are upon me, and I am no more.
Jb 7:8
The eye of him who sees me shall see me no more.
Your eyes shall be on me, but I shall not be.
9Jb 7:99כָּלָ֣ה עָ֭נָן וַיֵּלַ֑ךְ כֵּ֥ן יוֹרֵ֥ד שְׁ֝א֗וֹל לֹ֣א יַעֲלֶֽה׃Jb 7:9
As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away,
so he who goes down to Sheol shall come up no more.
Jb 7:9Jb 7:9ὥσπερ νέφος ἀποκαθαρθὲν ἀπ’ οὐρανοῦ ἐὰν γὰρ ἄνθρωπος καταβῇ εἰς ᾅδην οὐκέτι μὴ ἀναβῇJb 7:9
I am as a cloud that is cleared away from the sky: for if a man go down to the grave, he shall not come up again:
Jb 7:9
As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away,
so he who goes down to Sheol shall come up no more.
10Jb 7:1010לֹא־יָשׁ֣וּב ע֣וֹד לְבֵית֑וֹ וְלֹא־יַכִּירֶ֖נּוּ ע֣וֹד מְקֹמֽוֹ׃Jb 7:10
He shall return no more to his house,
neither shall his place know him any more.
Jb 7:10Jb 7:10οὐδ’ οὐ μὴ ἐπιστρέψῃ ἔτι εἰς τὸν ἴδιον οἶκον οὐδὲ μὴ ἐπιγνῷ αὐτὸν ἔτι ὁ τόπος αὐτοῦJb 7:10
and he shall surely not return to his own house, neither shall his place know him any more.
Jb 7:10
He shall return no more to his house,
neither shall his place know him any more.
11Jb 7:1111גַּם־אֲנִי֮ לֹ֤א אֶחֱשָׂ֫ךְ פִּ֥י אֲ‍ֽ֭דַבְּרָה בְּצַ֣ר רוּחִ֑י אָ֝שִׂ֗יחָה בְּמַ֣ר נַפְשִֽׁי׃Jb 7:11
“Therefore I will not keep silent.
I will speak in the anguish of my spirit.
I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
Jb 7:11Jb 7:11ἀτὰρ οὖν οὐδὲ ἐγὼ φείσομαι τῷ στόματί μου λαλήσω ἐν ἀνάγκῃ ὤν ἀνοίξω πικρίαν ψυχῆς μου συνεχόμενοςJb 7:11
Then neither will I refrain my mouth: I will speak being in distress; being in anguish I will disclose the bitterness of my soul.
Jb 7:11
“Therefore I will not keep silent.
I will speak in the anguish of my spirit.
I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
12Jb 7:1212הֲ‍ֽיָם־אָ֭נִי אִם־תַּנִּ֑ין כִּֽי־תָשִׂ֖ים עָלַ֣י מִשְׁמָֽר׃Jb 7:12
Am I a sea, or a sea monster,
that you put a guard over me?
Jb 7:12Jb 7:12πότερον θάλασσά εἰμι ἢ δράκων ὅτι κατέταξας ἐπ’ ἐμὲ φυλακήνJb 7:12
Am I a sea, or a serpent, that thou hast set a watch over me?
Jb 7:12
Am I a sea, or a sea monster,
that you put a guard over me?
13Jb 7:1313כִּֽי־אָ֭מַרְתִּי תְּנַחֲמֵ֣נִי עַרְשִׂ֑י יִשָּׂ֥א בְ֝שִׂיחִ֗י מִשְׁכָּבִֽי׃Jb 7:13
When I say, ‘My bed shall comfort me.
My couch shall ease my complaint;’
Jb 7:13Jb 7:13εἶπα ὅτι παρακαλέσει με ἡ κλίνη μου ἀνοίσω δὲ πρὸς ἐμαυτὸν ἰδίᾳ λόγον τῇ κοίτῃ μουJb 7:13
I said that my bed should comfort me, and I would privately counsel with myself on my couch.
Jb 7:13
When I say, ‘My bed shall comfort me.
My couch shall ease my complaint;’
14Jb 7:1414וְחִתַּתַּ֥נִי בַחֲלֹמ֑וֹת וּֽמֵחֶזְיֹנ֥וֹת תְּבַעֲתַֽנִּי׃Jb 7:14
then you scare me with dreams,
and terrify me through visions:
Jb 7:14Jb 7:14ἐκφοβεῖς με ἐνυπνίοις καὶ ἐν ὁράμασίν με καταπλήσσειςJb 7:14
Thou scarest me with dreams, and dost terrify me with visions.
Jb 7:14
then you scare me with dreams,
and terrify me through visions:
15Jb 7:1515וַתִּבְחַ֣ר מַחֲנָ֣ק נַפְשִׁ֑י מָ֝֗וֶת מֵֽעַצְמוֹתָֽי׃Jb 7:15
so that my soul chooses strangling,
death rather than my bones.
Jb 7:15Jb 7:15ἀπαλλάξεις ἀπὸ πνεύματός μου τὴν ψυχήν μου ἀπὸ δὲ θανάτου τὰ ὀστᾶ μουJb 7:15
Thou wilt separate life from my spirit; and yet keep my bones from death.
Jb 7:15
so that my soul chooses strangling,
death rather than my bones.
16Jb 7:1616מָ֭אַסְתִּי לֹא־לְעֹלָ֣ם אֶֽחְיֶ֑ה חֲדַ֥ל מִ֝מֶּ֗נִּי כִּי־הֶ֥בֶל יָמָֽי׃Jb 7:16
I loathe my life.
I don’t want to live forever.
Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.
Jb 7:16Jb 7:16οὐ γὰρ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ζήσομαι ἵνα μακροθυμήσω ἀπόστα ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ κενὸς γάρ μου ὁ βίοςJb 7:16
For I shall not live for ever, that I should patiently endure: depart from me, for my life is vain.
Jb 7:16
I loathe my life.
I don’t want to live forever.
Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.
17Jb 7:1717מָֽה־אֱ֭נוֹשׁ כִּ֣י תְגַדְּלֶ֑נּוּ וְכִי־תָשִׁ֖ית אֵלָ֣יו לִבֶּֽךָ׃Jb 7:17
What is man, that you should magnify him,
that you should set your mind on him,
Jb 7:17Jb 7:17τί γάρ ἐστιν ἄνθρωπος ὅτι ἐμεγάλυνας αὐτὸν ἢ ὅτι προσέχεις τὸν νοῦν εἰς αὐτὸνJb 7:17
For what is man, that thou hast magnified him? or that thou givest heed to him?
Jb 7:17
What is man, that you should magnify him,
that you should set your mind on him,
18Jb 7:1818וַתִּפְקְדֶ֥נּוּ לִבְקָרִ֑ים לִ֝רְגָעִ֗ים תִּבְחָנֶֽנּוּ׃Jb 7:18
that you should visit him every morning,
and test him every moment?
Jb 7:18Jb 7:18ἢ ἐπισκοπὴν αὐτοῦ ποιήσῃ ἕως τὸ πρωὶ καὶ εἰς ἀνάπαυσιν αὐτὸν κρινεῖςJb 7:18
Wilt thou visit him till the morning, and judge him till the time of rest?
Jb 7:18
that you should visit him every morning,
and test him every moment?
19Jb 7:1919כַּ֭מָּה לֹא־תִשְׁעֶ֣ה מִמֶּ֑נִּי לֹֽא־תַ֝רְפֵּ֗נִי עַד־בִּלְעִ֥י רֻקִּֽי׃Jb 7:19
How long will you not look away from me,
nor leave me alone until I swallow down my spittle?
Jb 7:19Jb 7:19ἕως τίνος οὐκ ἐᾷς με οὐδὲ προΐῃ με ἕως ἂν καταπίω τὸν πτύελόν μου ἐν ὀδύνῃJb 7:19
How long dost thou not let me alone, nor let me go, until I shall swallow down my spittle?
Jb 7:19
How long will you not look away from me,
nor leave me alone until I swallow down my spittle?
20Jb 7:2020חָטָ֡אתִי מָ֤ה אֶפְעַ֨ל ׀ לָךְ֮ נֹצֵ֪ר הָאָ֫דָ֥ם לָ֤מָה שַׂמְתַּ֣נִי לְמִפְגָּ֣ע לָ֑ךְ וָאֶהְיֶ֖ה עָלַ֣י לְמַשָּֽׂא׃Jb 7:20
If I have sinned, what do I do to you, you watcher of men?
Why have you set me as a mark for you,
so that I am a burden to myself?
Jb 7:20Jb 7:20εἰ ἐγὼ ἥμαρτον τί δύναμαί σοι πρᾶξαι ὁ ἐπιστάμενος τὸν νοῦν τῶν ἀνθρώπων διὰ τί ἔθου με κατεντευκτήν σου εἰμὶ δὲ ἐπὶ σοὶ φορτίονJb 7:20
If I have sinned, what shall I be able to do, O thou that understandest the mind of men? why hast thou made me as thine accuser, and why am I a burden to thee?
Jb 7:20
If I have sinned, what do I do to you, you watcher of men?
Why have you set me as a mark for you,
so that I am a burden to myself?
21Jb 7:2121וּמֶ֤ה ׀ לֹא־תִשָּׂ֣א פִשְׁעִי֮ וְתַעֲבִ֪יר אֶת־עֲוֹ֫נִ֥י כִּֽי־עַ֭תָּה לֶעָפָ֣ר אֶשְׁכָּ֑ב וְשִׁ֖חֲרְתַּ֣נִי וְאֵינֶֽנִּי׃ פ Jb 7:21
Why do you not pardon my disobedience, and take away my iniquity?
For now shall I lie down in the dust.
You will seek me diligently, but I shall not be.”
Jb 7:21Jb 7:21καὶ διὰ τί οὐκ ἐποιήσω τῆς ἀνομίας μου λήθην καὶ καθαρισμὸν τῆς ἁμαρτίας μου νυνὶ δὲ εἰς γῆν ἀπελεύσομαι ὀρθρίζων δὲ οὐκέτι εἰμίJb 7:21
Why hast thou not forgotten my iniquity, and purged my sin? but now I shall depart to the earth; and in the morning I am no more.
Jb 7:21
