2Jb 4:22הֲנִסָּ֬ה דָבָ֣ר אֵלֶ֣יךָ תִּלְאֶ֑ה וַעְצֹ֥ר בְּ֝מִלִּ֗ין מִ֣י יוּכָֽל׃Jb 4:2
“If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved?
But who can withhold himself from speaking?
Jb 4:2Jb 4:2μὴ πολλάκις σοι λελάληται ἐν κόπῳ ἰσχὺν δὲ ῥημάτων σου τίς ὑποίσειJb 4:2
Hast thou been often spoken to in distress? but who shall endure the force of thy words?
Jb 4:2
“If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved?
But who can withhold himself from speaking?
3Jb 4:33הִ֭נֵּה יִסַּ֣רְתָּ רַבִּ֑ים וְיָדַ֖יִם רָפ֣וֹת תְּחַזֵּֽק׃Jb 4:3
Behold, you have instructed many,
you have strengthened the weak hands.
Jb 4:3Jb 4:3εἰ γὰρ σὺ ἐνουθέτησας πολλοὺς καὶ χεῖρας ἀσθενοῦς παρεκάλεσαςJb 4:3
For whereas thou hast instructed many, and hast strengthened the hands of the weak one,
Jb 4:3
Behold, you have instructed many,
you have strengthened the weak hands.
4Jb 4:44כּ֭וֹשֵׁל יְקִימ֣וּן מִלֶּ֑יךָ וּבִרְכַּ֖יִם כֹּרְע֣וֹת תְּאַמֵּֽץ׃Jb 4:4
Your words have supported him who was falling,
You have made firm the feeble knees.
Jb 4:4Jb 4:4ἀσθενοῦντάς τε ἐξανέστησας ῥήμασιν γόνασίν τε ἀδυνατοῦσιν θάρσος περιέθηκαςJb 4:4
and hast supported the failing with words, and hast imparted courage to feeble knees.
Jb 4:4
Your words have supported him who was falling,
You have made firm the feeble knees.
5Jb 4:55כִּ֤י עַתָּ֨ה ׀ תָּב֣וֹא אֵלֶ֣יךָ וַתֵּ֑לֶא תִּגַּ֥ע עָ֝דֶ֗יךָ וַתִּבָּהֵֽל׃Jb 4:5
But now it is come to you, and you faint.
It touches you, and you are troubled.
Jb 4:5Jb 4:5νῦν δὲ ἥκει ἐπὶ σὲ πόνος καὶ ἥψατό σου σὺ δὲ ἐσπούδασαςJb 4:5
Yet now that pain has come upon thee, and touched thee, thou art troubled.
Jb 4:5
But now it is come to you, and you faint.
It touches you, and you are troubled.
6Jb 4:66הֲלֹ֣א יִ֭רְאָתְךָ כִּסְלָתֶ֑ךָ תִּ֝קְוָתְךָ֗ וְתֹ֣ם דְּרָכֶֽיךָ׃Jb 4:6
Isn’t your piety your confidence?
Isn’t the integrity of your ways your hope?
Jb 4:6Jb 4:6πότερον οὐχ ὁ φόβος σού ἐστιν ἐν ἀφροσύνῃ καὶ ἡ ἐλπίς σου καὶ ἡ ἀκακία τῆς ὁδοῦ σουJb 4:6
Is not thy fear founded in folly, thy hope also, and the mischief of thy way?

Isn’t your piety your confidence?
Isn’t the integrity of your ways your hope?
7Jb 4:77זְכָר־נָ֗א מִ֤י ה֣וּא נָקִ֣י אָבָ֑ד וְ֝אֵיפֹ֗ה יְשָׁרִ֥ים נִכְחָֽדוּ׃Jb 4:7
“Remember, now, whoever perished, being innocent?
Or where were the upright cut off?
Jb 4:7Jb 4:7μνήσθητι οὖν τίς καθαρὸς ὢν ἀπώλετο ἢ πότε ἀληθινοὶ ὁλόρριζοι ἀπώλοντοJb 4:7
Remember then who has perished, being pure? or when were the true-hearted utterly destroyed?

“Remember, now, whoever perished, being innocent?
Or where were the upright cut off?
8Jb 4:88כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר רָ֭אִיתִי חֹ֣רְשֵׁי אָ֑וֶן וְזֹרְעֵ֖י עָמָ֣ל יִקְצְרֻֽהוּ׃Jb 4:8
According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity,
and sow trouble,
reap the same.
Jb 4:8Jb 4:8καθ’ ὃν τρόπον εἶδον τοὺς ἀροτριῶντας τὰ ἄτοπα οἱ δὲ σπείροντες αὐτὰ ὀδύνας θεριοῦσιν ἑαυτοῖςJb 4:8
Accordingly as I have seen men ploughing barren places, and they that sow them will reap sorrows for themselves.
Jb 4:8
According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity,
and sow trouble,

9Jb 4:99מִנִּשְׁמַ֣ת אֱל֣וֹהַ יֹאבֵ֑דוּ וּמֵר֖וּחַ אַפּ֣וֹ יִכְלֽוּ׃Jb 4:9
By the breath of God they perish.
By the blast of his anger are they consumed.
Jb 4:9Jb 4:9ἀπὸ προστάγματος κυρίου ἀπολοῦνται ἀπὸ δὲ πνεύματος ὀργῆς αὐτοῦ ἀφανισθήσονταιJb 4:9
They shall perish by the command of the Lord, and shall be utterly consumed by the breath of his wrath.
Jb 4:9
By the breath of God they perish.
By the blast of his anger are they consumed.
10Jb 4:1010שַׁאֲגַ֣ת אַ֭רְיֵה וְק֣וֹל שָׁ֑חַל וְשִׁנֵּ֖י כְפִירִ֣ים נִתָּֽעוּ׃Jb 4:10
The roaring of the lion,
and the voice of the fierce lion,
the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
Jb 4:10Jb 4:10σθένος λέοντος φωνὴ δὲ λεαίνης γαυρίαμα δὲ δρακόντων ἐσβέσθηJb 4:10
The strength of the lion, and the voice of the lioness, and the exulting cry of serpents are quenched.
Jb 4:10
The roaring of the lion,
and the voice of the fierce lion,
the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
11Jb 4:1111לַ֭יִשׁ אֹבֵ֣ד מִבְּלִי־טָ֑רֶף וּבְנֵ֥י לָ֝בִ֗יא יִתְפָּרָֽדוּ׃Jb 4:11
The old lion perishes for lack of prey.
The cubs of the lioness are scattered abroad.
Jb 4:11Jb 4:11μυρμηκολέων ὤλετο παρὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν βοράν σκύμνοι δὲ λεόντων ἔλιπον ἀλλήλουςJb 4:11
The old lion has perished for want of food, and the lions' whelps have forsaken one another.
Jb 4:11
The old lion perishes for lack of prey.
The cubs of the lioness are scattered abroad.
12Jb 4:1212וְ֭אֵלַי דָּבָ֣ר יְגֻנָּ֑ב וַתִּקַּ֥ח אָ֝זְנִ֗י שֵׁ֣מֶץ מֶֽנְהֽוּ׃Jb 4:12
“Now a thing was secretly brought to me.
My ear received a whisper of it.
Jb 4:12Jb 4:12εἰ δέ τι ῥῆμα ἀληθινὸν ἐγεγόνει ἐν λόγοις σου οὐθὲν ἄν σοι τούτων κακὸν ἀπήντησεν πότερον οὐ δέξεταί μου τὸ οὖς ἐξαίσια παρ’ αὐτοῦJb 4:12
But if there had been any truth in thy words, none of these evils would have befallen thee. Shall not mine ear receive excellent revelations from him?

13Jb 4:1313בִּ֭שְׂעִפִּים מֵחֶזְיֹנ֣וֹת לָ֑יְלָה בִּנְפֹ֥ל תַּ֝רְדֵּמָ֗ה עַל־אֲנָשִֽׁים׃Jb 4:13
In thoughts from the visions of the night,
when deep sleep falls on men,
Jb 4:13Jb 4:13φόβοι δὲ καὶ ἠχὼ νυκτερινή ἐπιπίπτων φόβος ἐπ’ ἀνθρώπουςJb 4:13
But as when terror falls upon men, with dread and a sound in the night,

In thoughts from the visions of the night,

14Jb 4:1414פַּ֣חַד קְ֭רָאַנִי וּרְעָדָ֑ה וְרֹ֖ב עַצְמוֹתַ֣י הִפְחִֽיד׃Jb 4:14
fear came on me, and trembling,
which made all my bones shake.
Jb 4:14Jb 4:14φρίκη δέ μοι συνήντησεν καὶ τρόμος καὶ μεγάλως μου τὰ ὀστᾶ συνέσεισενJb 4:14
horror and trembling seized me, and caused all my bones greatly to shake.
Jb 4:14
fear came on me, and trembling,
which made all my bones shake.
15Jb 4:1515וְ֭רוּחַ עַל־פָּנַ֣י יַחֲלֹ֑ף תְּ֝סַמֵּ֗ר שַֽׂעֲרַ֥ת בְּשָׂרִֽי׃Jb 4:15
Then a spirit passed before my face.
The hair of my flesh stood up.
Jb 4:15Jb 4:15καὶ πνεῦμα ἐπὶ πρόσωπόν μου ἐπῆλθεν ἔφριξαν δέ μου τρίχες καὶ σάρκεςJb 4:15
And a spirit came before my face; and my hair and flesh quivered.
Jb 4:15
Then a spirit passed before my face.
The hair of my flesh stood up.
16Jb 4:1616יַעֲמֹ֤ד ׀ וְֽלֹא־אַכִּ֬יר מַרְאֵ֗הוּ תְּ֭מוּנָה לְנֶ֣גֶד עֵינָ֑י דְּמָמָ֖ה וָק֣וֹל אֶשְׁמָֽע׃Jb 4:16
It stood still, but I couldn’t discern its appearance.
A form was before my eyes.
Silence, then I heard a voice, saying,
Jb 4:16Jb 4:16ἀνέστην καὶ οὐκ ἐπέγνων εἶδον καὶ οὐκ ἦν μορφὴ πρὸ ὀφθαλμῶν μου ἀλλ’ ἢ αὔραν καὶ φωνὴν ἤκουονJb 4:16
I arose and perceived it not: I looked, and there, was no form before my eyes: but I only heard a breath and a voice, saying,

It stood still, but I couldn’t discern its appearance.
A form was before my eyes.
Silence, then I heard a voice, saying,
17Jb 4:1717הַֽ֭אֱנוֹשׁ מֵאֱל֣וֹהַ יִצְדָּ֑ק אִ֥ם מֵ֝עֹשֵׂ֗הוּ יִטְהַר־גָּֽבֶר׃Jb 4:17
‘Shall mortal man be more just than God?
Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?
Jb 4:17Jb 4:17τί γάρ μὴ καθαρὸς ἔσται βροτὸς ἐναντίον κυρίου ἢ ἀπὸ τῶν ἔργων αὐτοῦ ἄμεμπτος ἀνήρJb 4:17
What, shall a mortal be pure before the Lord? or a man be blameless in regard to his works?
Jb 4:17
‘Shall mortal man be more just than God?
Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?
18Jb 4:1818הֵ֣ן בַּ֭עֲבָדָיו לֹ֣א יַאֲמִ֑ין וּ֝בְמַלְאָכָ֗יו יָשִׂ֥ים תָּהֳלָֽה׃Jb 4:18
Behold, he puts no trust in his servants.
He charges his angels with error.
Jb 4:18Jb 4:18εἰ κατὰ παίδων αὐτοῦ οὐ πιστεύει κατὰ δὲ ἀγγέλων αὐτοῦ σκολιόν τι ἐπενόησενJb 4:18
Whereas he trust not in his servants, and perceives perverseness in his angels.
Jb 4:18
Behold, he puts no trust in his servants.
He charges his angels with error.
19Jb 4:1919אַ֤ף ׀ שֹׁכְנֵ֬י בָֽתֵּי־חֹ֗מֶר אֲשֶׁר־בֶּעָפָ֥ר יְסוֹדָ֑ם יְ֝דַכְּא֗וּם לִפְנֵי־עָֽשׁ׃Jb 4:19
How much more, those who dwell in houses of clay,
whose foundation is in the dust,
who are crushed before the moth!
Jb 4:19Jb 4:19τοὺς δὲ κατοικοῦντας οἰκίας πηλίνας ἐξ ὧν καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐκ τοῦ αὐτοῦ πηλοῦ ἐσμεν ἔπαισεν αὐτοὺς σητὸς τρόπονJb 4:19
But as for them that dwell in houses of clay, of whom we also are formed of the same clay, he smites them like a moth.
Jb 4:19
How much more, those who dwell in houses of clay,
whose foundation is in the dust,
who are crushed before the moth!
20Jb 4:2020מִבֹּ֣קֶר לָעֶ֣רֶב יֻכַּ֑תּוּ מִבְּלִ֥י מֵ֝שִׂ֗ים לָנֶ֥צַח יֹאבֵֽדוּ׃Jb 4:20
Between morning and evening they are destroyed.
They perish forever without any regarding it.
Jb 4:20Jb 4:20καὶ ἀπὸ πρωίθεν ἕως ἑσπέρας οὐκέτι εἰσίν παρὰ τὸ μὴ δύνασθαι αὐτοὺς ἑαυτοῖς βοηθῆσαι ἀπώλοντοJb 4:20
And from the morning to evening they no longer exist: they have perished, because they cannot help themselves.
Jb 4:20
Between morning and evening they are destroyed.
They perish forever without any regarding it.
21Jb 4:2121הֲלֹא־נִסַּ֣ע יִתְרָ֣ם בָּ֑ם יָ֝מ֗וּתוּ וְלֹ֣א בְחָכְמָֽה׃Jb 4:21
Isn’t their tent cord plucked up within them?
They die, and that without wisdom.’
Jb 4:21Jb 4:21ἐνεφύσησεν γὰρ αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐξηράνθησαν ἀπώλοντο παρὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν αὐτοὺς σοφίανJb 4:21
For he blows upon them, and they are withered: they have perished for lack of wisdom.
Jb 4:21

They die, and that without wisdom.’
