“Do you know the time when the mountain goats give birth?
Do you watch when the doe bears fawns?
Jb 39:1Jb 39:1εἰ ἔγνως καιρὸν τοκετοῦ τραγελάφων πέτρας ἐφύλαξας δὲ ὠδῖνας ἐλάφωνJb 39:1
Say if thou knowest the time of the bringing forth of the wild goats of the rock, and if thou hast marked the calving of the hinds:

“Do you know the time when the mountain goats give birth?
Do you watch when the doe bears fawns?
2Jb 39:22תִּסְפֹּ֣ר יְרָחִ֣ים תְּמַלֶּ֑אנָה וְ֝יָדַ֗עְתָּ עֵ֣ת לִדְתָּֽנָה׃Jb 39:2
Can you number the months that they fulfill?
Or do you know the time when they give birth?
Jb 39:2Jb 39:2ἠρίθμησας δὲ αὐτῶν μῆνας πλήρεις τοκετοῦ ὠδῖνας δὲ αὐτῶν ἔλυσαςJb 39:2
and if thou has hast numbered the full months of their being with young, and if thou hast relieved their pangs:

Can you number the months that they fulfill?
Or do you know the time when they give birth?
3Jb 39:33תִּ֭כְרַעְנָה יַלְדֵיהֶ֣ן תְּפַלַּ֑חְנָה חֶבְלֵיהֶ֥ם תְּשַׁלַּֽחְנָה׃Jb 39:3
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young,
they end their labor pains.
Jb 39:3Jb 39:3ἐξέθρεψας δὲ αὐτῶν τὰ παιδία ἔξω φόβου ὠδῖνας αὐτῶν ἐξαποστελεῖςJb 39:3
and hast reared their young without fear; and wilt thou loosen their pangs?
Jb 39:3
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young,
they end their labor pains.
4Jb 39:44יַחְלְמ֣וּ בְ֭נֵיהֶם יִרְבּ֣וּ בַבָּ֑ר יָ֝צְא֗וּ וְלֹא־שָׁ֥בוּ לָֽמוֹ׃Jb 39:4
Their young ones become strong.
They grow up in the open field.
They go forth, and don’t return again.
Jb 39:4Jb 39:4ἀπορρήξουσιν τὰ τέκνα αὐτῶν πληθυνθήσονται ἐν γενήματι ἐξελεύσονται καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀνακάμψουσιν αὐτοῖςJb 39:4
Their young will break forth; they will be multiplied with offspring: their young will go forth, and will not return to them.
Jb 39:4
Their young ones become strong.
They grow up in the open field.
They go forth, and don’t return again.
5Jb 39:55מִֽי־שִׁלַּ֣ח פֶּ֣רֶא חָפְשִׁ֑י וּמֹסְר֥וֹת עָ֝ר֗וֹד מִ֣י פִתֵּֽחַ׃Jb 39:5
“Who has set the wild donkey free?
Or who has loosened the bonds of the swift donkey,
Jb 39:5Jb 39:5τίς δέ ἐστιν ὁ ἀφεὶς ὄνον ἄγριον ἐλεύθερον δεσμοὺς δὲ αὐτοῦ τίς ἔλυσενJb 39:5
And who is he that sent forth the wild ass free? and who loosed his bands?
Jb 39:5
“Who has set the wild donkey free?
Or who has loosened the bonds of the swift donkey,
6Jb 39:66אֲשֶׁר־שַׂ֣מְתִּי עֲרָבָ֣ה בֵית֑וֹ וּֽמִשְׁכְּנוֹתָ֥יו מְלֵֽחָה׃Jb 39:6
Whose home I have made the wilderness,
and the salt land his dwelling place?
Jb 39:6Jb 39:6ἐθέμην δὲ τὴν δίαιταν αὐτοῦ ἔρημον καὶ τὰ σκηνώματα αὐτοῦ ἁλμυρίδαJb 39:6
whereas I made his habitation the wilderness, and the salt land his coverts.
Jb 39:6
Whose home I have made the wilderness,
and the salt land his dwelling place?
7Jb 39:77יִ֭שְׂחַק לַהֲמ֣וֹן קִרְיָ֑ה תְּשֻׁא֥וֹת נ֝וֹגֵ֗שׂ לֹ֣א יִשְׁמָֽע׃Jb 39:7
He scorns the tumult of the city,
neither does he hear the shouting of the driver.
Jb 39:7Jb 39:7καταγελῶν πολυοχλίας πόλεως μέμψιν δὲ φορολόγου οὐκ ἀκούωνJb 39:7
He laughs to scorn the multitude of the city, and hears not the chiding of the tax-gatherer.
Jb 39:7
He scorns the tumult of the city,
neither does he hear the shouting of the driver.
8Jb 39:88יְת֣וּר הָרִ֣ים מִרְעֵ֑הוּ וְאַחַ֖ר כָּל־יָר֣וֹק יִדְרֽוֹשׁ׃Jb 39:8
The range of the mountains is his pasture,
He searches after every green thing.
Jb 39:8Jb 39:8κατασκέψεται ὄρη νομὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ ὀπίσω παντὸς χλωροῦ ζητεῖJb 39:8
He will survey the mountains as his pasture, and he seeks after every green thing.
Jb 39:8
The range of the mountains is his pasture,
He searches after every green thing.
9Jb 39:99הֲיֹ֣אבֶה רֵּ֣ים עָבְדֶ֑ךָ אִם־יָ֝לִ֗ין עַל־אֲבוּסֶֽךָ׃Jb 39:9
“Will the wild ox be content to serve you?
Or will he stay by your feeding trough?
Jb 39:9Jb 39:9βουλήσεται δέ σοι μονόκερως δουλεῦσαι ἢ κοιμηθῆναι ἐπὶ φάτνης σουJb 39:9
And will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or to lie down at thy manger?
Jb 39:9
“Will the wild ox be content to serve you?
Or will he stay by your feeding trough?
10Jb 39:1010הֲ‍ֽתִקְשָׁר־רֵ֭ים בְּתֶ֣לֶם עֲבֹת֑וֹ אִם־יְשַׂדֵּ֖ד עֲמָקִ֣ים אַחֲרֶֽיךָ׃Jb 39:10
Can you hold the wild ox in the furrow with his harness?
Or will he till the valleys after you?
Jb 39:10Jb 39:10δήσεις δὲ ἐν ἱμᾶσι ζυγὸν αὐτοῦ ἢ ἑλκύσει σου αὔλακας ἐν πεδίῳJb 39:10
And wilt thou bind his yoke with thongs, or will he plough furrows for thee in the plain?
Jb 39:10
Can you hold the wild ox in the furrow with his harness?

11Jb 39:1111הֲֽתִבְטַח־בּ֭וֹ כִּי־רַ֣ב כֹּח֑וֹ וְתַעֲזֹ֖ב אֵלָ֣יו יְגִיעֶֽךָ׃Jb 39:11
Will you trust him, because his strength is great?
Or will you leave to him your labor?
Jb 39:11Jb 39:11πέποιθας δὲ ἐπ’ αὐτῷ ὅτι πολλὴ ἡ ἰσχὺς αὐτοῦ ἐπαφήσεις δὲ αὐτῷ τὰ ἔργα σουJb 39:11
And dost thou trust him, because his strength is great? and wilt thou commit thy works to him?
Jb 39:11
Will you trust him, because his strength is great?
Or will you leave to him your labor?
12Jb 39:1212הֲתַאֲמִ֣ין בּ֭וֹ כִּי־‏{ ישוב יָשִׁ֣יב }‏ זַרְעֶ֑ךָ וְֽגָרְנְךָ֥ יֶאֱסֹֽף׃

Jb 39:12
Will you confide in him, that he will bring home your seed,
and gather the grain of your threshing floor?
Jb 39:12Jb 39:12πιστεύσεις δὲ ὅτι ἀποδώσει σοι τὸν σπόρον εἰσοίσει δέ σου τὸν ἅλωναJb 39:12
And wilt thou believe that he will return to thee thy seed, and bring it in to thy threshing-floor?
Jb 39:12
Will you confide in him, that he will bring home your seed,
and gather the grain of your threshing floor?
13Jb 39:1313כְּנַף־רְנָנִ֥ים נֶעֱלָ֑סָה אִם־אֶ֝בְרָ֗ה חֲסִידָ֥ה וְנֹצָֽה׃Jb 39:13
“The wings of the ostrich wave proudly;
but are they the feathers and plumage of love?
Jb 39:13Jb 39:13πτέρυξ τερπομένων νεελασα ἐὰν συλλάβῃ ασιδα καὶ νεσσαJb 39:13
The peacock has a beautiful wing: if the stork and the ostrich conceive, it is worthy of notice,

“The wings of the ostrich wave proudly;
but are they the feathers and plumage of love?
14Jb 39:1414כִּֽי־תַעֲזֹ֣ב לָאָ֣רֶץ בֵּצֶ֑יהָ וְֽעַל־עָפָ֥ר תְּחַמֵּֽם׃Jb 39:14
For she leaves her eggs on the earth,
warms them in the dust,
Jb 39:14Jb 39:14ὅτι ἀφήσει εἰς γῆν τὰ ᾠὰ αὐτῆς καὶ ἐπὶ χοῦν θάλψειJb 39:14
for the ostrich will leave her eggs in the ground, and warm them on the dust,
Jb 39:14
For she leaves her eggs on the earth,
warms them in the dust,
15Jb 39:1515וַ֭תִּשְׁכַּח כִּי־רֶ֣גֶל תְּזוּרֶ֑הָ וְחַיַּ֖ת הַשָּׂדֶ֣ה תְּדוּשֶֽׁהָ׃Jb 39:15
and forgets that the foot may crush them,
or that the wild animal may trample them.
Jb 39:15Jb 39:15καὶ ἐπελάθετο ὅτι ποὺς σκορπιεῖ καὶ θηρία ἀγροῦ καταπατήσειJb 39:15
and has forgotten that the foot will scatter them, and the wild beasts of the field trample them.
Jb 39:15
and forgets that the foot may crush them,
or that the wild animal may trample them.
16Jb 39:1616הִקְשִׁ֣יחַ בָּנֶ֣יהָ לְּלֹא־לָ֑הּ לְרִ֖יק יְגִיעָ֣הּ בְּלִי־פָֽחַד׃Jb 39:16
She deals harshly with her young ones, as if they were not hers.
Though her labor is in vain, she is without fear,
Jb 39:16Jb 39:16ἀπεσκλήρυνεν τὰ τέκνα αὐτῆς ὥστε μὴ ἑαυτῇ εἰς κενὸν ἐκοπίασεν ἄνευ φόβουJb 39:16
She has hardened herself against her young ones, as though she bereaved not herself: she labours in vain without fear.
Jb 39:16
She deals harshly with her young ones, as if they were not hers.
Though her labor is in vain, she is without fear,
17Jb 39:1717כִּֽי־הִשָּׁ֣הּ אֱל֣וֹהַּ חָכְמָ֑ה וְלֹא־חָ֥לַק לָ֝֗הּ בַּבִּינָֽה׃Jb 39:17
because God has deprived her of wisdom,
neither has he imparted to her understanding.
Jb 39:17Jb 39:17ὅτι κατεσιώπησεν αὐτῇ ὁ θεὸς σοφίαν καὶ οὐκ ἐμέρισεν αὐτῇ ἐν τῇ συνέσειJb 39:17
For God has withholden wisdom from her, and not given her a portion in understanding.
Jb 39:17
because God has deprived her of wisdom,
neither has he imparted to her understanding.
18Jb 39:1818כָּ֭עֵת בַּמָּר֣וֹם תַּמְרִ֑יא תִּֽשְׂחַ֥ק לַ֝סּ֗וּס וּלְרֹֽכְבֽוֹ׃Jb 39:18
When she lifts up herself on high,
she scorns the horse and his rider.
Jb 39:18Jb 39:18κατὰ καιρὸν ἐν ὕψει ὑψώσει καταγελάσεται ἵππου καὶ τοῦ ἐπιβάτου αὐτοῦJb 39:18
In her season she will lift herself on high; she will scorn the horse and his rider.
Jb 39:18
When she lifts up herself on high,
she scorns the horse and his rider.
19Jb 39:1919הֲתִתֵּ֣ן לַסּ֣וּס גְּבוּרָ֑ה הֲתַלְבִּ֖ישׁ צַוָּאר֣וֹ רַעְמָֽה׃Jb 39:19
“Have you given the horse might?
Have you clothed his neck with a quivering mane?
Jb 39:19Jb 39:19ἦ σὺ περιέθηκας ἵππῳ δύναμιν ἐνέδυσας δὲ τραχήλῳ αὐτοῦ φόβονJb 39:19
Hast thou invested the horse with strength, and clothed his neck with terror?
Jb 39:19
“Have you given the horse might?
Have you clothed his neck with a quivering mane?
20Jb 39:2020הְֽ֭תַרְעִישֶׁנּוּ כָּאַרְבֶּ֑ה ה֖וֹד נַחְר֣וֹ אֵימָֽה׃Jb 39:20
Have you made him to leap as a locust?
The glory of his snorting is awesome.
Jb 39:20Jb 39:20περιέθηκας δὲ αὐτῷ πανοπλίαν δόξαν δὲ στηθέων αὐτοῦ τόλμῃJb 39:20
And hast thou clad him in perfect armour, and made his breast glorious with courage?
Jb 39:20
Have you made him to leap as a locust?
The glory of his snorting is awesome.
21Jb 39:2121יַחְפְּר֣וּ בָ֭עֵמֶק וְיָשִׂ֣ישׂ בְּכֹ֑חַ יֵ֝צֵ֗א לִקְרַאת־נָֽשֶׁק׃Jb 39:21
He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength.
He goes out to meet the armed men.
Jb 39:21Jb 39:21ἀνορύσσων ἐν πεδίῳ γαυριᾷ ἐκπορεύεται δὲ εἰς πεδίον ἐν ἰσχύιJb 39:21
He paws exulting in the plain, and goes forth in strength into the plain.
Jb 39:21
He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength.
He goes out to meet the armed men.
22Jb 39:2222יִשְׂחַ֣ק לְ֭פַחַד וְלֹ֣א יֵחָ֑ת וְלֹֽא־יָ֝שׁ֗וּב מִפְּנֵי־חָֽרֶב׃Jb 39:22
He mocks at fear, and is not dismayed,
neither does he turn back from the sword.
Jb 39:22Jb 39:22συναντῶν βέλει καταγελᾷ καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀποστραφῇ ἀπὸ σιδήρουJb 39:22
He laughs to scorn a king as he meets him, and will by no means turn back from the sword.
Jb 39:22
He mocks at fear, and is not dismayed,
neither does he turn back from the sword.
23Jb 39:2323עָ֭לָיו תִּרְנֶ֣ה אַשְׁפָּ֑ה לַ֖הַב חֲנִ֣ית וְכִידֽוֹן׃Jb 39:23
The quiver rattles against him,
the flashing spear and the javelin.
Jb 39:23Jb 39:23ἐπ’ αὐτῷ γαυριᾷ τόξον καὶ μάχαιραJb 39:23
The bow and sword resound against him; and his rage will swallow up the ground:

24Jb 39:2424בְּרַ֣עַשׁ וְ֭רֹגֶז יְגַמֶּא־אָ֑רֶץ וְלֹֽא־יַ֝אֲמִ֗ין כִּי־ק֥וֹל שׁוֹפָֽר׃Jb 39:24
He eats up the ground with fierceness and rage,
neither does he stand still at the sound of the trumpet.
Jb 39:24Jb 39:24καὶ ὀργῇ ἀφανιεῖ τὴν γῆν καὶ οὐ μὴ πιστεύσῃ ἕως ἂν σημάνῃ σάλπιγξJb 39:24
and he will not believe until the trumpet sounds.

25Jb 39:2525בְּדֵ֤י שֹׁפָ֨ר ׀ יֹ֘אמַ֤ר הֶאָ֗ח וּֽ֭מֵרָחוֹק יָרִ֣יחַ מִלְחָמָ֑ה רַ֥עַם שָׂ֝רִים וּתְרוּעָֽה׃Jb 39:25
As often as the trumpet sounds he snorts, ‘Aha!’
He smells the battle afar off,
the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
Jb 39:25Jb 39:25σάλπιγγος δὲ σημαινούσης λέγει εὖγε πόρρωθεν δὲ ὀσφραίνεται πολέμου σὺν ἅλματι καὶ κραυγῇJb 39:25
And when the trumpet sounds, he says, Aha! and afar off he smells the war with prancing and neighing.

As often as the trumpet sounds he snorts, ‘Aha!’
He smells the battle afar off,

26Jb 39:2626הֲ‍ֽ֭מִבִּינָ֣תְךָ יַֽאֲבֶר־נֵ֑ץ יִפְרֹ֖שׂ ‏{ כנפו כְּנָפָ֣יו }‏ לְתֵימָֽן׃

“Is it by your wisdom that the hawk soars,
and stretches her wings toward the south?
Jb 39:26Jb 39:26ἐκ δὲ τῆς σῆς ἐπιστήμης ἕστηκεν ἱέραξ ἀναπετάσας τὰς πτέρυγας ἀκίνητος καθορῶν τὰ πρὸς νότονJb 39:26
And does the hawk remain steady by thy wisdom, having spread out her wings unmoved, looking toward the region of the south?
Jb 39:26
“Is it by your wisdom that the hawk soars,
and stretches her wings toward the south?
27Jb 39:2727אִם־עַל־פִּ֭יךָ יַגְבִּ֣יהַּ נָ֑שֶׁר וְ֝כִ֗י יָרִ֥ים קִנּֽוֹ׃Jb 39:27
Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up,
and makes his nest on high?
Jb 39:27Jb 39:27ἐπὶ δὲ σῷ προστάγματι ὑψοῦται ἀετός γὺψ δὲ ἐπὶ νοσσιᾶς αὐτοῦ καθεσθεὶς αὐλίζεταιJb 39:27
And does the eagle rise at thy command, and the vulture remain sitting over his nest,

Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up,
and makes his nest on high?
28Jb 39:2828סֶ֣לַע יִ֭שְׁכֹּן וְיִתְלֹנָ֑ן עַֽל־שֶׁן־סֶ֝֗לַע וּמְצוּדָֽה׃Jb 39:28
On the cliff he dwells, and makes his home,
on the point of the cliff, and the stronghold.
Jb 39:28Jb 39:28ἐπ’ ἐξοχῇ πέτρας καὶ ἀποκρύφῳJb 39:28
on a crag of a rock, and in a secret place?
Jb 39:28
On the cliff he dwells, and makes his home,
on the point of the cliff, and the stronghold.
29Jb 39:2929מִשָּׁ֥ם חָֽפַר־אֹ֑כֶל לְ֝מֵרָח֗וֹק עֵינָ֥יו יַבִּֽיטוּ׃Jb 39:29
From there he spies out the prey.
His eyes see it afar off.
Jb 39:29Jb 39:29ἐκεῖσε ὢν ζητεῖ τὰ σῖτα πόρρωθεν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ σκοπεύουσινJb 39:29
Thence he seeks food, his eyes observe from far.
Jb 39:29
From there he spies out the prey.
His eyes see it afar off.
30Jb 39:3030‏{ ואפרחו וְאֶפְרֹחָ֥יו }‏ יְעַלְעוּ־דָ֑ם וּבַאֲשֶׁ֥ר חֲ֝לָלִ֗ים שָׁ֣ם הֽוּא׃ פ

Jb 39:30
His young ones also suck up blood.
Where the slain are, there he is.”
Jb 39:30Jb 39:30νεοσσοὶ δὲ αὐτοῦ φύρονται ἐν αἵματι οὗ δ’ ἂν ὦσι τεθνεῶτες παραχρῆμα εὑρίσκονταιJb 39:30
And his young ones roll themselves in blood, and wherever the carcasses may be, immediately they are found.
Jb 39:30
His young ones also suck up blood.
Where the slain are, there he is.”
