¶Moreover Elihu answered,
2Jb 34:22שִׁמְע֣וּ חֲכָמִ֣ים מִלָּ֑י וְ֝יֹדְעִ֗ים הַאֲזִ֥ינוּ לִֽי׃Jb 34:2
“Hear my words, you wise men.
Give ear to me, you who have knowledge.
Jb 34:2Jb 34:2ἀκούσατέ μου σοφοί ἐπιστάμενοι ἐνωτίζεσθε τὸ καλόνJb 34:2
Hear me, ye wise men; hearken, ye that have knowledge.

“Hear my words, you wise men.
Give ear to me, you who have knowledge.
3Jb 34:33כִּי־אֹ֭זֶן מִלִּ֣ין תִּבְחָ֑ן וְ֝חֵ֗ךְ יִטְעַ֥ם לֶאֱכֹֽל׃Jb 34:3
For the ear tries words,
as the palate tastes food.
Jb 34:3Jb 34:3ὅτι οὖς λόγους δοκιμάζει καὶ λάρυγξ γεύεται βρῶσινJb 34:3

4Jb 34:44מִשְׁפָּ֥ט נִבְחֲרָה־לָּ֑נוּ נֵדְעָ֖ה בֵינֵ֣ינוּ מַה־טּֽוֹב׃Jb 34:4
Let us choose for us that which is right.
Let us know among ourselves what is good.
Jb 34:4Jb 34:4κρίσιν ἑλώμεθα ἑαυτοῖς γνῶμεν ἀνὰ μέσον ἑαυτῶν ὅ τι καλόνJb 34:4
Let us choose judgment to ourselves: let us know amount ourselves what is right.

Let us choose for us that which is right.
Let us know among ourselves what is good.
5Jb 34:55כִּֽי־אָ֭מַר אִיּ֣וֹב צָדַ֑קְתִּי וְ֝אֵ֗ל הֵסִ֥יר מִשְׁפָּטִֽי׃Jb 34:5
For Job has said, ‘I am righteous,
God has taken away my right:
Jb 34:5Jb 34:5ὅτι εἴρηκεν Ιωβ δίκαιός εἰμι ὁ κύριος ἀπήλλαξέν μου τὸ κρίμαJb 34:5
For Job has said, I am righteous: the Lord has removed my judgment.

For Job has said, ‘I am righteous,
God has taken away my right:
6Jb 34:66עַל־מִשְׁפָּטִ֥י אֲכַזֵּ֑ב אָנ֖וּשׁ חִצִּ֣י בְלִי־פָֽשַׁע׃Jb 34:6
Notwithstanding my right I am considered a liar.
My wound is incurable, though I am without disobedience.’
Jb 34:6Jb 34:6ἐψεύσατο δὲ τῷ κρίματί μου βίαιον τὸ βέλος μου ἄνευ ἀδικίαςJb 34:6
And he has erred in my judgment: my wound is severe without unrighteousness of mine.

Notwithstanding my right I am considered a liar.

7Jb 34:77מִי־גֶ֥בֶר כְּאִיּ֑וֹב יִֽשְׁתֶּה־לַּ֥עַג כַּמָּֽיִם׃Jb 34:7
What man is like Job,
who drinks scorn like water,

8Jb 34:88וְאָרַ֣ח לְ֭חֶבְרָה עִם־פֹּ֣עֲלֵי אָ֑וֶן וְ֝לָלֶ֗כֶת עִם־אַנְשֵׁי־רֶֽשַׁע׃Jb 34:8
Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity,
and walks with wicked men?
Jb 34:8Jb 34:8οὐχ ἁμαρτὼν οὐδὲ ἀσεβήσας ἢ ὁδοῦ κοινωνήσας μετὰ ποιούντων τὰ ἄνομα τοῦ πορευθῆναι μετὰ ἀσεβῶνJb 34:8
saying, I have not sinned, nor committed ungodliness, nor had fellowship with workers of iniquity, to go with the ungodly.

Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity,
and walks with wicked men?
9Jb 34:99כִּֽי־אָ֭מַר לֹ֣א יִסְכָּן־גָּ֑בֶר בִּ֝רְצֹת֗וֹ עִם־אֱלֹהִֽים׃Jb 34:9
For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing
that he should delight himself with God.’
Jb 34:9Jb 34:9μὴ γὰρ εἴπῃς ὅτι οὐκ ἔσται ἐπισκοπὴ ἀνδρός καὶ ἐπισκοπὴ αὐτῷ παρὰ κυρίουJb 34:9
For thou shouldest not say, There shall be no visitation of a man, whereas there is a visitation on him from the Lord.

For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing

10Jb 34:1010לָכֵ֤ן ׀ אַ֥נֲשֵׁ֥י לֵבָ֗ב שִׁמְע֫וּ לִ֥י חָלִ֖לָה לָאֵ֥ל מֵרֶ֗שַׁע וְשַׁדַּ֥י מֵעָֽוֶל׃Jb 34:10
“Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding:
far be it from God, that he should do wickedness,
from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
Jb 34:10Jb 34:10διό συνετοὶ καρδίας ἀκούσατέ μου μή μοι εἴη ἔναντι κυρίου ἀσεβῆσαι καὶ ἔναντι παντοκράτορος ταράξαι τὸ δίκαιονJb 34:10
Wherefore hear me, ye that are wise in heart: far be it from me to sin before the Lord, and to pervert righteousness before the almighty.

“Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding:
far be it from God, that he should do wickedness,
from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
11Jb 34:1111כִּ֤י פֹ֣עַל אָ֭דָם יְשַׁלֶּם־ל֑וֹ וּֽכְאֹ֥רַח אִ֝֗ישׁ יַמְצִאֶֽנּוּ׃Jb 34:11
For the work of a man he will render to him,
and cause every man to find according to his ways.
Jb 34:11Jb 34:11ἀλλὰ ἀποδιδοῖ ἀνθρώπῳ καθὰ ποιεῖ ἕκαστος αὐτῶν καὶ ἐν τρίβῳ ἀνδρὸς εὑρήσει αὐτόνJb 34:11
Yea, he renders to a man accordingly as each of them does, and in a man's path he will find him.

For the work of a man he will render to him,
and cause every man to find according to his ways.
12Jb 34:1212אַף־אָמְנָ֗ם אֵ֥ל לֹֽא־יַרְשִׁ֑יעַ וְ֝שַׁדַּ֗י לֹֽא־יְעַוֵּ֥ת מִשְׁפָּֽט׃Jb 34:12
Yes surely, God will not do wickedly,
neither will the Almighty pervert justice.
Jb 34:12Jb 34:12οἴῃ δὲ τὸν κύριον ἄτοπα ποιήσειν ἢ ὁ παντοκράτωρ ταράξει κρίσινJb 34:12
And thinkest thou that the Lord will do wrong, or will the Almighty who made the earth wrest judgment?
Jb 34:12
Yes surely, God will not do wickedly,
neither will the Almighty pervert justice.
13Jb 34:1313מִֽי־פָקַ֣ד עָלָ֣יו אָ֑רְצָה וּמִ֥י שָׂ֝֗ם תֵּבֵ֥ל כֻּלָּֽהּ׃Jb 34:13
Who put him in charge of the earth?
or who has appointed him over the whole world?
Jb 34:13Jb 34:13ὃς ἐποίησεν τὴν γῆν τίς δέ ἐστιν ὁ ποιῶν τὴν ὑπ’ οὐρανὸν καὶ τὰ ἐνόντα πάνταJb 34:13
And who is he that made the whole world under heaven, and all things therein?
Jb 34:13
Who put him in charge of the earth?
or who has appointed him over the whole world?
14Jb 34:1414אִם־יָשִׂ֣ים אֵלָ֣יו לִבּ֑וֹ רוּח֥וֹ וְ֝נִשְׁמָת֗וֹ אֵלָ֥יו יֶאֱסֹֽף׃Jb 34:14
If he set his heart on himself,
If he gathered to himself his spirit and his breath,
Jb 34:14Jb 34:14εἰ γὰρ βούλοιτο συνέχειν καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα παρ’ αὐτῷ κατασχεῖνJb 34:14
For if he would confine, and restrain his spirit with himself;
Jb 34:14
If he set his heart on himself,
If he gathered to himself his spirit and his breath,
15Jb 34:1515יִגְוַ֣ע כָּל־בָּשָׂ֣ר יָ֑חַד וְ֝אָדָ֗ם עַל־עָפָ֥ר יָשֽׁוּב׃Jb 34:15
all flesh would perish together,
and man would turn again to dust.
Jb 34:15Jb 34:15τελευτήσει πᾶσα σὰρξ ὁμοθυμαδόν πᾶς δὲ βροτὸς εἰς γῆν ἀπελεύσεται ὅθεν καὶ ἐπλάσθηJb 34:15
all flesh would die together, and every mortal would return to the earth, whence also he was formed.
Jb 34:15
all flesh would perish together,
and man would turn again to dust.
16Jb 34:1616וְאִם־בִּ֥ינָה שִׁמְעָה־זֹּ֑את הַ֝אֲזִ֗ינָה לְק֣וֹל מִלָּֽי׃Jb 34:16
“If now you have understanding, hear this.
Listen to the voice of my words.
Jb 34:16Jb 34:16εἰ δὲ μὴ νουθετῇ ἄκουε ταῦτα ἐνωτίζου φωνὴν ῥημάτωνJb 34:16
Take heed lest he rebuke thee: hear this, hearken to the voice of words.

“If now you have understanding, hear this.
Listen to the voice of my words.
17Jb 34:1717הַאַ֬ף שׂוֹנֵ֣א מִשְׁפָּ֣ט יַחֲב֑וֹשׁ וְאִם־צַדִּ֖יק כַּבִּ֣יר תַּרְשִֽׁיעַ׃Jb 34:17
Shall even one who hates justice govern?
Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty?—
Jb 34:17Jb 34:17ἰδὲ σὺ τὸν μισοῦντα ἄνομα καὶ τὸν ὀλλύντα τοὺς πονηροὺς ὄντα αἰώνιον δίκαιονJb 34:17
Behold then the one that hates iniquities, and that destroys the wicked, who is for ever just.

Shall even one who hates justice govern?
Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty?—
18Jb 34:1818הַאֲמֹ֣ר לְמֶ֣לֶךְ בְּלִיָּ֑עַל רָ֝שָׁ֗ע אֶל־נְדִיבִֽים׃Jb 34:18
Who says to a king, ‘Vile!’
or to nobles, ‘Wicked!’?
Jb 34:18Jb 34:18ἀσεβὴς ὁ λέγων βασιλεῖ παρανομεῖς ἀσεβέστατε τοῖς ἄρχουσινJb 34:18
He is ungodly that says to a king, Thou art a transgressor, that says to princes, O most ungodly one.

Who says to a king, ‘Vile!’
or to nobles, ‘Wicked!’?
19Jb 34:1919אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־נָשָׂ֨א ׀ פְּנֵ֥י שָׂרִ֗ים וְלֹ֣א נִכַּר־שׁ֭וֹעַ לִפְנֵי־דָ֑ל כִּֽי־מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה יָדָ֣יו כֻּלָּֽם׃Jb 34:19
Who doesn’t respect the persons of princes,
nor respects the rich more than the poor;
for they all are the work of his hands.
Jb 34:19Jb 34:19ὃς οὐκ ἐπῃσχύνθη πρόσωπον ἐντίμου οὐδὲ οἶδεν τιμὴν θέσθαι ἁδροῖς θαυμασθῆναι πρόσωπα αὐτῶνJb 34:19
Such a one as would not reverence the face of an honourable man, neither knows how to give honour to the great, so as that their persons should be respected.
Jb 34:19
Who doesn’t respect the persons of princes,

20Jb 34:2020רֶ֤גַע ׀ יָמֻתוּ֮ וַחֲצ֪וֹת לָ֥יְלָה יְגֹעֲשׁ֣וּ עָ֣ם וְיַעֲבֹ֑רוּ וְיָסִ֥ירוּ אַ֝בִּ֗יר לֹ֣א בְיָֽד׃Jb 34:20
In a moment they die, even at midnight.
The people are shaken and pass away.
The mighty are taken away without a hand.
Jb 34:20Jb 34:20κενὰ δὲ αὐτοῖς ἀποβήσεται τὸ κεκραγέναι καὶ δεῖσθαι ἀνδρός ἐχρήσαντο γὰρ παρανόμως ἐκκλινομένων ἀδυνάτωνJb 34:20
But it shall turn out vanity to them, to cry and beseech a man; for they dealt unlawfully, the poor being turned aside from their right.

21Jb 34:2121כִּי־עֵ֭ינָיו עַל־דַּרְכֵי־אִ֑ישׁ וְֽכָל־צְעָדָ֥יו יִרְאֶֽה׃Jb 34:21

He sees all his goings.
Jb 34:21Jb 34:21αὐτὸς γὰρ ὁρατής ἐστιν ἔργων ἀνθρώπων λέληθεν δὲ αὐτὸν οὐδὲν ὧν πράσσουσινJb 34:21
For he surveys the works of men, and nothing of what they do has escaped him.

“For his eyes are on the ways of a man.
He sees all his goings.
22Jb 34:2222אֵֽין־חֹ֭שֶׁךְ וְאֵ֣ין צַלְמָ֑וֶת לְהִסָּ֥תֶר שָׁ֝֗ם פֹּ֣עֲלֵי אָֽוֶן׃Jb 34:22
There is no darkness, nor thick gloom,
where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
Jb 34:22Jb 34:22οὐδὲ ἔσται τόπος τοῦ κρυβῆναι τοὺς ποιοῦντας τὰ ἄνομαJb 34:22
Neither shall there be a place for the workers of iniquity to hide themselves.

There is no darkness, nor thick gloom,
where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
23Jb 34:2323כִּ֤י לֹ֣א עַל־אִ֭ישׁ יָשִׂ֣ים ע֑וֹד לַהֲלֹ֥ךְ אֶל־אֵ֝֗ל בַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃Jb 34:23
For he doesn’t need to consider a man further,
that he should go before God in judgment.
Jb 34:23Jb 34:23ὅτι οὐκ ἐπ’ ἄνδρα θήσει ἔτι ὁ γὰρ κύριος πάντας ἐφορᾷJb 34:23
For he will not lay upon a man more than right.

For he doesn’t need to consider a man further,
that he should go before God in judgment.
24Jb 34:2424יָרֹ֣עַ כַּבִּירִ֣ים לֹא־חֵ֑קֶר וַיַּעֲמֵ֖ד אֲחֵרִ֣ים תַּחְתָּֽם׃Jb 34:24
He breaks in pieces mighty men in ways past finding out,
and sets others in their place.
Jb 34:24Jb 34:24ὁ καταλαμβάνων ἀνεξιχνίαστα ἔνδοξά τε καὶ ἐξαίσια ὧν οὐκ ἔστιν ἀριθμόςJb 34:24
For the Lord looks down upon all men, who comprehends unsearchable things, glorious also and excellent things without number.

He breaks in pieces mighty men in ways past finding out,
and sets others in their place.
25Jb 34:2525לָכֵ֗ן יַ֭כִּיר מַעְבָּֽדֵיהֶ֑ם וְהָ֥פַךְ לַ֝֗יְלָה וְיִדַּכָּֽאוּ׃Jb 34:25
Therefore he takes knowledge of their works.
He overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
Jb 34:25Jb 34:25ὁ γνωρίζων αὐτῶν τὰ ἔργα καὶ στρέψει νύκτα καὶ ταπεινωθήσονταιJb 34:25
Who discovers their works, and will bring night about upon them, and they shall be brought low.

Therefore he takes knowledge of their works.
He overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
26Jb 34:2626תַּֽחַת־רְשָׁעִ֥ים סְפָקָ֗ם בִּמְק֥וֹם רֹאִֽים׃Jb 34:26
He strikes them as wicked men
in the open sight of others;
Jb 34:26Jb 34:26ἔσβεσεν δὲ ἀσεβεῖς ὁρατοὶ δὲ ἐναντίον αὐτοῦJb 34:26
And he quite destroys the ungodly, for they are seen before him.

27Jb 34:2727אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־כֵּ֭ן סָ֣רוּ מֵֽאַחֲרָ֑יו וְכָל־דְּ֝רָכָ֗יו לֹ֣א הִשְׂכִּֽילוּ׃Jb 34:27
because they turned aside from following him,
and wouldn’t pay attention to any of his ways,
Jb 34:27Jb 34:27ὅτι ἐξέκλιναν ἐκ νόμου θεοῦ δικαιώματα δὲ αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐπέγνωσανJb 34:27
Because they turned aside from the law of God, and did not regard his ordinances,
Jb 34:27
because they turned aside from following him,
and wouldn’t pay attention to any of his ways,
28Jb 34:2828לְהָבִ֣יא עָ֭לָיו צַֽעֲקַת־דָּ֑ל וְצַעֲקַ֖ת עֲנִיִּ֣ים יִשְׁמָֽע׃Jb 34:28
so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him.
He heard the cry of the afflicted.
Jb 34:28Jb 34:28τοῦ ἐπαγαγεῖν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν κραυγὴν πένητος καὶ κραυγὴν πτωχῶν εἰσακούσεταιJb 34:28
so as to bring before him the cry of the needy; for he will hear the cry of the poor.

so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him.
He heard the cry of the afflicted.
29Jb 34:2929וְה֤וּא יַשְׁקִ֨ט ׀ וּמִ֥י יַרְשִׁ֗עַ וְיַסְתֵּ֣ר פָּ֭נִים וּמִ֣י יְשׁוּרֶ֑נּוּ וְעַל־גּ֖וֹי וְעַל־אָדָ֣ם יָֽחַד׃Jb 34:29
When he gives quietness, who then can condemn?
When he hides his face, who then can see him?
Alike whether to a nation, or to a man,
Jb 34:29Jb 34:29καὶ αὐτὸς ἡσυχίαν παρέξει καὶ τίς καταδικάσεται καὶ κρύψει πρόσωπον καὶ τίς ὄψεται αὐτόν καὶ κατὰ ἔθνους καὶ κατὰ ἀνθρώπου ὁμοῦJb 34:29
And he will give quiet, and who will condemn? and he will hide his face, and who shall see him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man also:

When he gives quietness, who then can condemn?
When he hides his face, who then can see him?
Alike whether to a nation, or to a man,
30Jb 34:3030מִ֭מְּלֹךְ אָדָ֥ם חָנֵ֗ף מִמֹּ֥קְשֵׁי עָֽם׃Jb 34:30
that the godless man may not reign,
that there be no one to ensnare the people.
Jb 34:30Jb 34:30βασιλεύων ἄνθρωπον ὑποκριτὴν ἀπὸ δυσκολίας λαοῦJb 34:30
causing a hypocrite to be king, because of the waywardness of the people.
Jb 34:30
that the godless man may not reign,
that there be no one to ensnare the people.while the reigning one is a hypocrite man from the peevishnessª of the people

“For has any said to God,
‘I am guilty, but I will not offend any more.
Jb 34:31Jb 34:31ὅτι πρὸς τὸν ἰσχυρὸν ὁ λέγων εἴληφα οὐκ ἐνεχυράσωJb 34:31
For there is one that says to the Mighty One, I have received blessings; I will not take a pledge:
Jb 34:31
“For has any said to God,
‘I am guilty, but I will not offend any more.
32Jb 34:3232בִּלְעֲדֵ֣י אֶ֭חֱזֶה אַתָּ֣ה הֹרֵ֑נִי אִֽם־עָ֥וֶל פָּ֝עַ֗לְתִּי לֹ֣א אֹסִֽיף׃Jb 34:32
Teach me that which I don’t see.
If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more’?
Jb 34:32Jb 34:32ἄνευ ἐμαυτοῦ ὄψομαι σὺ δεῖξόν μοι εἰ ἀδικίαν ἠργασάμην οὐ μὴ προσθήσωJb 34:32
I will see apart from myself: do thou shew me if I have done unrighteousness; I will not do so any more.

Teach me that which I don’t see.
If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more’?
33Jb 34:3333הַֽמֵעִמְּךָ֬ יְשַׁלְמֶ֨נָּה כִּֽי־מָאַ֗סְתָּ כִּי־אַתָּ֣ה תִבְחַ֣ר וְלֹא־אָ֑נִי וּֽמַה־יָדַ֥עְתָּ דַבֵּֽר׃Jb 34:33
Shall his recompense be as you desire, that you refuse it?
For you must choose, and not I.
Therefore speak what you know.
Jb 34:33Jb 34:33μὴ παρὰ σοῦ ἀποτείσει αὐτήν ὅτι ἀπώσῃ ὅτι σὺ ἐκλέξῃ καὶ οὐκ ἐγώ καὶ τί ἔγνως λάλησονJb 34:33
Will he take vengeance for it on thee, whereas thou wilt put it far from thee? for thou shalt choose, and not I; and what thou knowest, speak thou.

Men of understanding will tell me,
yes, every wise man who hears me:

Because the wise in heart shall say this, and a wise man listens to my word.

Men of understanding will tell me,
yes, every wise man who hears me:
35Jb 34:3535אִ֭יּוֹב לֹא־בְדַ֣עַת יְדַבֵּ֑ר וּ֝דְבָרָ֗יו לֹ֣א בְהַשְׂכֵּֽיל׃Jb 34:35
‘Job speaks without knowledge.

But Job has not spoken with understanding, his words are not uttered with knowledge.
Jb 34:35
‘Job speaks without knowledge.
His words are without wisdom.’
36Jb 34:3636אָבִ֗י יִבָּחֵ֣ן אִיּ֣וֹב עַד־נֶ֑צַח עַל־תְּ֝שֻׁבֹ֗ת בְּאַנְשֵׁי־אָֽוֶן׃Jb 34:36
I wish that Job were tried to the end,
because of his answering like wicked men.

Howbeit do thou learn, Job: no longer make answer as the foolish:

I wish that Job were tried to the end,
because of his answering like wicked men.
37Jb 34:3737כִּ֥י יֹ֘סִ֤יף עַֽל־חַטָּאת֣וֹ פֶ֭שַׁע בֵּינֵ֣ינוּ יִסְפּ֑וֹק וְיֶ֖רֶב אֲמָרָ֣יו לָאֵֽל׃ ס Jb 34:37
For he adds rebellion to his sin.
He claps his hands among us,
and multiplies his words against God.”
Jb 34:37Jb 34:37ἵνα μὴ προσθῶμεν ἐφ’ ἁμαρτίαις ἡμῶν ἀνομία δὲ ἐφ’ ἡμῖν λογισθήσεται πολλὰ λαλούντων ῥήματα ἐναντίον τοῦ κυρίουJb 34:37
that we add not to our sins: for iniquity will be reckoned against us, if we speak many words before the Lord.
