“But now those who are younger than I have me in derision,
whose fathers I would have disdained to put with my sheep dogs.
Jb 30:1Jb 30:1νυνὶ δὲ κατεγέλασάν μου ἐλάχιστοι νῦν νουθετοῦσίν με ἐν μέρει ὧν ἐξουδένουν πατέρας αὐτῶν οὓς οὐχ ἡγησάμην εἶναι ἀξίους κυνῶν τῶν ἐμῶν νομάδωνJb 30:1
But now the youngest have laughed me to scorn, now they reprove me in their turn, whose fathers I set at nought; whom I did not deem worthy to be with my shepherd dogs.

“But now those who are younger than I have me in derision,

2Jb 30:22גַּם־כֹּ֣חַ יְ֭דֵיהֶם לָ֣מָּה לִּ֑י עָ֝לֵ֗ימוֹ אָ֣בַד כָּֽלַח׃Jb 30:2
Of what use is the strength of their hands to me,
men in whom ripe age has perished?
Jb 30:2Jb 30:2καί γε ἰσχὺς χειρῶν αὐτῶν ἵνα τί μοι ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς ἀπώλετο συντέλειαJb 30:2
Yea, why had I the strength of their hands? for them the full term of life was lost.
Jb 30:2
Of what use is the strength of their hands to me,
men in whom ripe age has perished?
3Jb 30:33בְּחֶ֥סֶר וּבְכָפָ֗ן גַּ֫לְמ֥וּד הַֽעֹרְקִ֥ים צִיָּ֑ה אֶ֝֗מֶשׁ שׁוֹאָ֥ה וּמְשֹׁאָֽה׃Jb 30:3
They are gaunt from lack and famine.
They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of waste and desolation.
Jb 30:3Jb 30:3ἐν ἐνδείᾳ καὶ λιμῷ ἄγονος οἱ φεύγοντες ἄνυδρον ἐχθὲς συνοχὴν καὶ ταλαιπωρίανJb 30:3
One is childless in want and famine, such as they that fled but lately the distress and misery of drought.

They are gaunt from lack and famine.

4Jb 30:44הַקֹּטְפִ֣ים מַלּ֣וּחַ עֲלֵי־שִׂ֑יחַ וְשֹׁ֖רֶשׁ רְתָמִ֣ים לַחְמָֽם׃Jb 30:4
They pluck salt herbs by the bushes.
The roots of the broom are their food.
Jb 30:4Jb 30:4οἱ περικλῶντες ἅλιμα ἐπὶ ἠχοῦντι οἵτινες ἅλιμα ἦν αὐτῶν τὰ σῖτα ἄτιμοι δὲ καὶ πεφαυλισμένοι ἐνδεεῖς παντὸς ἀγαθοῦ οἳ καὶ ῥίζας ξύλων ἐμασῶντο ὑπὸ λιμοῦ μεγάλουJb 30:4
Who compass the salt places on the sounding shore, who had salt herbs for their food, and were dishonorable and of no repute, in want of every good thing; who also ate roots of trees by reason of great hunger.

5Jb 30:55מִן־גֵּ֥ו יְגֹרָ֑שׁוּ יָרִ֥יעוּ עָ֝לֵ֗ימוֹ כַּגַּנָּֽב׃Jb 30:5
They are driven out from the midst of men.
They cry after them as after a thief;
Jb 30:5Jb 30:5ἐπανέστησάν μοι κλέπταιJb 30:5
Thieves have risen up against me,

6Jb 30:66בַּעֲר֣וּץ נְחָלִ֣ים לִשְׁכֹּ֑ן חֹרֵ֖י עָפָ֣ר וְכֵפִֽים׃Jb 30:6
So that they dwell in frightful valleys,
and in holes of the earth and of the rocks.
Jb 30:6Jb 30:6ὧν οἱ οἶκοι αὐτῶν ἦσαν τρῶγλαι πετρῶνJb 30:6
whose houses were the caves of the rocks, who lived under the wild shrubs.

So that they dwell in frightful valleys,
and in holes of the earth and of the rocks.
7Jb 30:77בֵּין־שִׂיחִ֥ים יִנְהָ֑קוּ תַּ֖חַת חָר֣וּל יְסֻפָּֽחוּ׃Jb 30:7
Among the bushes they bray;
and under the nettles they are gathered together.
Jb 30:7Jb 30:7ἀνὰ μέσον εὐήχων βοήσονται οἳ ὑπὸ φρύγανα ἄγρια διῃτῶντοJb 30:7
They will cry out among the rustling bushes.
Jb 30:7
Among the bushes they bray;
and under the nettles they are gathered together.
8Jb 30:88בְּֽנֵי־נָ֭בָל גַּם־בְּנֵ֣י בְלִי־שֵׁ֑ם נִ֝כְּא֗וּ מִן־הָאָֽרֶץ׃Jb 30:8
They are children of fools, yes, children of base men.
They were flogged out of the land.
Jb 30:8Jb 30:8ἀφρόνων υἱοὶ καὶ ἀτίμων ὄνομα καὶ κλέος ἐσβεσμένον ἀπὸ γῆςJb 30:8
They are sons of fools and vile men, whose name and glory are quenched from off the earth.
Jb 30:8
They are children of fools, yes, children of base men.
They were flogged out of the land.
9Jb 30:99וְ֭עַתָּה נְגִינָתָ֣ם הָיִ֑יתִי וָאֱהִ֖י לָהֶ֣ם לְמִלָּֽה׃Jb 30:9
“Now I have become their song.
Yes, I am a byword to them.
Jb 30:9Jb 30:9νυνὶ δὲ κιθάρα ἐγώ εἰμι αὐτῶν καὶ ἐμὲ θρύλημα ἔχουσινJb 30:9
But now I am their music, and they have me for a by-word.
Jb 30:9
“Now I have become their song.
Yes, I am a byword to them.
10Jb 30:1010תִּֽ֭עֲבוּנִי רָ֣חֲקוּ מֶ֑נִּי וּ֝מִפָּנַ֗י לֹא־חָ֥שְׂכוּ רֹֽק׃Jb 30:10
They abhor me, they stand aloof from me,
and don’t hesitate to spit in my face.
Jb 30:10Jb 30:10ἐβδελύξαντο δέ με ἀποστάντες μακράν ἀπὸ δὲ προσώπου μου οὐκ ἐφείσαντο πτύελονJb 30:10
And they stood aloof and abhorred me, and spared not to spit in my face.
Jb 30:10
They abhor me, they stand aloof from me,
and don’t hesitate to spit in my face.
11Jb 30:1111כִּֽי־‏{ יתרו יִתְרִ֣י }‏ פִ֭תַּח וַיְעַנֵּ֑נִי וְ֝רֶ֗סֶן מִפָּנַ֥י שִׁלֵּֽחוּ׃

Jb 30:11
For he has untied his cord, and afflicted me;
and they have thrown off restraint before me.
Jb 30:11Jb 30:11ἀνοίξας γὰρ φαρέτραν αὐτοῦ ἐκάκωσέν με καὶ χαλινὸν τοῦ προσώπου μου ἐξαπέστειλανJb 30:11
For he has opened his quiver and afflicted me: they also have cast off the restraint of my presence.
Jb 30:11
For he has untied his cord, and afflicted me;
and they have thrown off restraint before me.
12Jb 30:1212עַל־יָמִין֮ פִּרְחַ֪ח יָ֫ק֥וּמוּ רַגְלַ֥י שִׁלֵּ֑חוּ וַיָּסֹ֥לּוּ עָ֝לַ֗י אָרְח֥וֹת אֵידָֽם׃Jb 30:12
On my right hand rise the rabble.
They thrust aside my feet,
They cast up against me their ways of destruction.
Jb 30:12Jb 30:12ἐπὶ δεξιῶν βλαστοῦ ἐπανέστησαν πόδα αὐτῶν ἐξέτειναν καὶ ὡδοποίησαν ἐπ’ ἐμὲ τρίβους ἀπωλείας αὐτῶνJb 30:12
They have risen up against me on the right hand of their offspring; they have stretched out their foot, and directed against me the ways of their destruction.
Jb 30:12
On my right hand rise the rabble.
They thrust aside my feet,
They cast up against me their ways of destruction.
13Jb 30:1313נָתְס֗וּ נְֽתִיבָ֫תִ֥י לְהַוָּתִֽי יֹעִ֑ילוּ לֹ֖א עֹזֵ֣ר לָֽמוֹ׃Jb 30:13
They mar my path,
They set forward my calamity,
without anyone’s help.
Jb 30:13Jb 30:13ἐξετρίβησαν τρίβοι μου ἐξέδυσεν γάρ μου τὴν στολήνJb 30:13
My paths are ruined; for they have stripped off my raiment: he has shot at me with his weapons.

They mar my path,
They set forward my calamity,
without anyone’s help.
14Jb 30:1414כְּפֶ֣רֶץ רָחָ֣ב יֶאֱתָ֑יוּ תַּ֥חַת שֹׁ֝אָ֗ה הִתְגַּלְגָּֽלוּ׃Jb 30:14
As through a wide breach they come,
in the midst of the ruin they roll themselves in.
Jb 30:14Jb 30:14βέλεσιν αὐτοῦ κατηκόντισέν με κέχρηταί μοι ὡς βούλεται ἐν ὀδύναις πέφυρμαιJb 30:14
And he has pleaded against me as he will: I am overwhelmed with pains.

As through a wide breach they come,
in the midst of the ruin they roll themselves in.
15Jb 30:1515הָהְפַּ֥ךְ עָלַ֗י בַּלָּ֫ה֥וֹת תִּרְדֹּ֣ף כָּ֭רוּחַ נְדִבָתִ֑י וּ֝כְעָ֗ב עָבְרָ֥ה יְשֻׁעָתִֽי׃Jb 30:15
Terrors have turned on me.
They chase my honor as the wind.
My welfare has passed away as a cloud.
Jb 30:15Jb 30:15ἐπιστρέφονται δέ μου αἱ ὀδύναι ᾤχετό μου ἡ ἐλπὶς ὥσπερ πνεῦμα καὶ ὥσπερ νέφος ἡ σωτηρία μουJb 30:15
My pains return upon me; my hope is gone like the wind, and my safety as a cloud.
Jb 30:15
Terrors have turned on me.
They chase my honor as the wind.

16Jb 30:1616וְעַתָּ֗ה עָ֭לַי תִּשְׁתַּפֵּ֣ךְ נַפְשִׁ֑י יֹ֖אחֲז֣וּנִי יְמֵי־עֹֽנִי׃Jb 30:16
“Now my soul is poured out within me.
Days of affliction have taken hold on me.
Jb 30:16Jb 30:16καὶ νῦν ἐπ’ ἐμὲ ἐκχυθήσεται ἡ ψυχή μου ἔχουσιν δέ με ἡμέραι ὀδυνῶνJb 30:16
Even now my life shall be poured forth upon me; and days of anguish seize me.
Jb 30:16
“Now my soul is poured out within me.
Days of affliction have taken hold on me.
17Jb 30:1717לַ֗יְלָה עֲ֭צָמַי נִקַּ֣ר מֵעָלָ֑י וְ֝עֹרְקַ֗י לֹ֣א יִשְׁכָּבֽוּן׃Jb 30:17
In the night season my bones are pierced in me,
and the pains that gnaw me take no rest.
Jb 30:17Jb 30:17νυκτὶ δέ μου τὰ ὀστᾶ συγκέκαυται τὰ δὲ νεῦρά μου διαλέλυταιJb 30:17
And by night my bones are confounded; and my sinews are relaxed.
Jb 30:17
In the night season my bones are pierced in me,
and the pains that gnaw me take no rest.
18Jb 30:1818בְּרָב־כֹּ֭חַ יִתְחַפֵּ֣שׂ לְבוּשִׁ֑י כְּפִ֖י כֻתָּנְתִּ֣י יַֽאַזְרֵֽנִי׃Jb 30:18
By great force is my garment disfigured.
It binds me about as the collar of my coat.
Jb 30:18Jb 30:18ἐν πολλῇ ἰσχύι ἐπελάβετό μου τῆς στολῆς ὥσπερ τὸ περιστόμιον τοῦ χιτῶνός μου περιέσχεν μεJb 30:18
With great force my disease has taken hold of my garment: it has compassed me as the collar of my coat.
Jb 30:18
By great force is my garment disfigured.
It binds me about as the collar of my coat.
19Jb 30:1919הֹרָ֥נִי לַחֹ֑מֶר וָ֝אֶתְמַשֵּׁ֗ל כֶּעָפָ֥ר וָאֵֽפֶר׃Jb 30:19
He has cast me into the mire.
I have become like dust and ashes.
Jb 30:19Jb 30:19ἥγησαι δέ με ἴσα πηλῷ ἐν γῇ καὶ σποδῷ μου ἡ μερίςJb 30:19
And thou hast counted me as clay; my portion in dust and ashes.
Jb 30:19
He has cast me into the mire.
I have become like dust and ashes.
20Jb 30:2020אֲשַׁוַּ֣ע אֵ֭לֶיךָ וְלֹ֣א תַעֲנֵ֑נִי עָ֝מַ֗דְתִּי וַתִּתְבֹּ֥נֶן בִּֽי׃Jb 30:20
I cry to you, and you do not answer me.
I stand up, and you gaze at me.
Jb 30:20Jb 30:20κέκραγα δὲ πρὸς σὲ καὶ οὐκ εἰσακούεις μου ἔστησαν καὶ κατενόησάν μεJb 30:20
And I have cried to thee, but thou hearest me not: but they stood still, and observed me.
Jb 30:20
I cry to you, and you do not answer me.
I stand up, and you gaze at me.
21Jb 30:2121תֵּהָפֵ֣ךְ לְאַכְזָ֣ר לִ֑י בְּעֹ֖צֶם יָדְךָ֣ תִשְׂטְמֵֽנִי׃Jb 30:21
You have turned to be cruel to me.
With the might of your hand you persecute me.
Jb 30:21Jb 30:21ἐπέβης δέ μοι ἀνελεημόνως χειρὶ κραταιᾷ με ἐμαστίγωσαςJb 30:21
They attacked me also without mercy: thou hast scourged me with a strong hand.
Jb 30:21
You have turned to be cruel to me.
With the might of your hand you persecute me.
22Jb 30:2222תִּשָּׂאֵ֣נִי אֶל־ר֭וּחַ תַּרְכִּיבֵ֑נִי וּ֝תְמֹגְגֵ֗נִי ‏{ תשוה תּוּשִׁיָּֽה׃ }‏

Jb 30:22
You lift me up to the wind, and drive me with it.
You dissolve me in the storm.

And thou hast put me to grief, and hast cast me away from safety.

23Jb 30:2323כִּֽי־יָ֭דַעְתִּי מָ֣וֶת תְּשִׁיבֵ֑נִי וּבֵ֖ית מוֹעֵ֣ד לְכָל־חָֽי׃Jb 30:23
For I know that you will bring me to death,
To the house appointed for all living.
Jb 30:23Jb 30:23οἶδα γὰρ ὅτι θάνατός με ἐκτρίψει οἰκία γὰρ παντὶ θνητῷ γῆJb 30:23
For I know that death will destroy me: for the earth is the house appointed for every mortal.
Jb 30:23
For I know that you will bring me to death,
To the house appointed for all living.
24Jb 30:2424אַ֣ךְ לֹא־בְ֭עִי יִשְׁלַח־יָ֑ד אִם־בְּ֝פִיד֗וֹ לָהֶ֥ן שֽׁוּעַ׃Jb 30:24
“However doesn’t one stretch out a hand in his fall?
Or in his calamity therefore cry for help?
Jb 30:24Jb 30:24εἰ γὰρ ὄφελον δυναίμην ἐμαυτὸν χειρώσασθαι ἢ δεηθείς γε ἑτέρου καὶ ποιήσει μοι τοῦτοJb 30:24
Oh then that I might lay hands upon myself, or at least ask another, and he should do this for me.

Wasn’t my soul grieved for the needy?

Yet I wept over every helpless man; I groaned when I saw a man in distress.

When I looked for good, then evil came;
When I waited for light, there came darkness.
Jb 30:26Jb 30:26ἐγὼ δὲ ἐπέχων ἀγαθοῖς ἰδοὺ συνήντησάν μοι μᾶλλον ἡμέραι κακῶνJb 30:26
But I, when I waited for good things, behold, days of evils came the more upon me.

When I looked for good, then evil came;
When I waited for light, there came darkness.
27Jb 30:2727מֵעַ֖י רֻתְּח֥וּ וְלֹא־דָ֗מּוּ קִדְּמֻ֥נִי יְמֵי־עֹֽנִי׃Jb 30:27
My heart is troubled, and doesn’t rest.
Days of affliction have come on me.
Jb 30:27Jb 30:27ἡ κοιλία μου ἐξέζεσεν καὶ οὐ σιωπήσεται προέφθασάν με ἡμέραι πτωχείαςJb 30:27
My belly boiled, and would not cease: the days of poverty prevented me.

My heart is troubled, and doesn’t rest.
Days of affliction have come on me.
28Jb 30:2828קֹדֵ֣ר הִ֭לַּכְתִּי בְּלֹ֣א חַמָּ֑ה קַ֖מְתִּי בַקָּהָ֣ל אֲשַׁוֵּֽעַ׃Jb 30:28
I go mourning without the sun.
I stand up in the assembly, and cry for help.
Jb 30:28Jb 30:28στένων πεπόρευμαι ἄνευ φιμοῦ ἕστηκα δὲ ἐν ἐκκλησίᾳ κεκραγώςJb 30:28
I went mourning without restraint: and I have stood and cried out in the assembly.

I go mourning without the sun.
I stand up in the assembly, and cry for help.
29Jb 30:2929אָ֭ח הָיִ֣יתִי לְתַנִּ֑ים וְ֝רֵ֗עַ לִבְנ֥וֹת יַעֲנָֽה׃Jb 30:29
I am a brother to jackals,
and a companion to ostriches.
Jb 30:29Jb 30:29ἀδελφὸς γέγονα σειρήνων ἑταῖρος δὲ στρουθῶνJb 30:29
I am become a brother of monsters, and a companion of ostriches.

I am a brother to jackals,

30Jb 30:3030ע֭וֹרִי שָׁחַ֣ר מֵעָלָ֑י וְעַצְמִי־חָ֝֗רָה מִנִּי־חֹֽרֶב׃Jb 30:30
My skin grows black and peels from me.
My bones are burned with heat.
Jb 30:30Jb 30:30τὸ δὲ δέρμα μου ἐσκότωται μεγάλως τὰ δὲ ὀστᾶ μου ἀπὸ καύματοςJb 30:30
And my skin has been greatly blackened, and my bones are burned with heat.
Jb 30:30
My skin grows black and peels from me.
My bones are burned with heat.
31Jb 30:3131וַיְהִ֣י לְ֭אֵבֶל כִּנֹּרִ֑י וְ֝עֻגָבִ֗י לְק֣וֹל בֹּכִֽים׃Jb 30:31
Therefore my harp has turned to mourning,
and my pipe into the voice of those who weep.
Jb 30:31Jb 30:31ἀπέβη δὲ εἰς πάθος μου ἡ κιθάρα ὁ δὲ ψαλμός μου εἰς κλαυθμὸν ἐμοίJb 30:31
My harp also has been turned into mourning, and my song into my weeping.
Jb 30:31
Therefore my harp has turned to mourning,
and my pipe into the voice of those who weep.
