¶Then Job answered,

Then Job answered and said,

¶Then Job answered,
2Jb 23:22גַּם־הַ֭יּוֹם מְרִ֣י שִׂחִ֑י יָ֝דִ֗י כָּבְדָ֥ה עַל־אַנְחָתִֽי׃Jb 23:2
“Even today my complaint is rebellious.
His hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.
Jb 23:2Jb 23:2καὶ δὴ οἶδα ὅτι ἐκ χειρός μου ἡ ἔλεγξίς ἐστιν καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ βαρεῖα γέγονεν ἐπ’ ἐμῷ στεναγμῷJb 23:2
Yea, I know that pleading is out of my reach; and his hand has been made heavy upon my groaning.
Jb 23:2
“Even today my complaint is rebellious.
His hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.
3Jb 23:33מִֽי־יִתֵּ֣ן יָ֭דַעְתִּי וְאֶמְצָאֵ֑הוּ אָ֝ב֗וֹא עַד־תְּכוּנָתֽוֹ׃Jb 23:3
Oh that I knew where I might find him!
That I might come even to his seat!
Jb 23:3Jb 23:3τίς δ’ ἄρα γνοίη ὅτι εὕροιμι αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλθοιμι εἰς τέλοςJb 23:3
Who would then know that I might find him, and come to an end of the matter?
Jb 23:3
Oh that I knew where I might find him!
That I might come even to his seat!
4Jb 23:44אֶעֶרְכָ֣ה לְפָנָ֣יו מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּ֝פִ֗י אֲמַלֵּ֥א תוֹכָחֽוֹת׃Jb 23:4
I would set my cause in order before him,
and fill my mouth with arguments.
Jb 23:4Jb 23:4εἴποιμι δὲ ἐμαυτοῦ κρίμα τὸ δὲ στόμα μου ἐμπλήσαιμι ἐλέγχωνJb 23:4
And I would plead my own cause, and he would fill my mouth with arguments.
Jb 23:4
I would set my cause in order before him,
and fill my mouth with arguments.
5Jb 23:55אֵ֭דְעָה מִלִּ֣ים יַעֲנֵ֑נִי וְ֝אָבִ֗ינָה מַה־יֹּ֥אמַר לִֽי׃Jb 23:5
I would know the words which he would answer me,
and understand what he would tell me.
Jb 23:5Jb 23:5γνῴην δὲ ῥήματα ἅ μοι ἐρεῖ αἰσθοίμην δὲ τίνα μοι ἀπαγγελεῖJb 23:5
And I would know the remedies which he would speak to me, and I would perceive what he would tell me.
Jb 23:5
I would know the words which he would answer me,
and understand what he would tell me.
6Jb 23:66הַבְּרָב־כֹּ֭חַ יָרִ֣יב עִמָּדִ֑י לֹ֥א אַךְ־ה֝֗וּא יָשִׂ֥ם בִּֽי׃Jb 23:6
Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power?
No, but he would listen to me.
Jb 23:6Jb 23:6καὶ εἰ ἐν πολλῇ ἰσχύι ἐπελεύσεταί μοι εἶτα ἐν ἀπειλῇ μοι οὐ χρήσεταιJb 23:6
Though he should come on me in his great strength, then he would not threaten me;

Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power?
No, but he would listen to me.
7Jb 23:77שָׁ֗ם יָ֭שָׁר נוֹכָ֣ח עִמּ֑וֹ וַאֲפַלְּטָ֥ה לָ֝נֶ֗צַח מִשֹּׁפְטִֽי׃Jb 23:7
There the upright might reason with him,
so I should be delivered forever from my judge.
Jb 23:7Jb 23:7ἀλήθεια γὰρ καὶ ἔλεγχος παρ’ αὐτοῦ ἐξαγάγοι δὲ εἰς τέλος τὸ κρίμα μουJb 23:7
for truth and reproof are from him; and he would bring forth my judgment to an end.
Jb 23:7
There the upright might reason with him,
so I should be delivered forever from my judge.
8Jb 23:88הֵ֤ן קֶ֣דֶם אֶהֱלֹ֣ךְ וְאֵינֶ֑נּוּ וְ֝אָח֗וֹר וְֽלֹא־אָבִ֥ין לֽוֹ׃Jb 23:8
“If I go east, he is not there;
if west, I can’t find him;
Jb 23:8Jb 23:8εἰς γὰρ πρῶτα πορεύσομαι καὶ οὐκέτι εἰμί τὰ δὲ ἐπ’ ἐσχάτοις τί οἶδαJb 23:8
For if I shall go first, and exist no longer, still what do I know concerning the latter end?
Jb 23:8
“If I go east, he is not there;
if west, I can’t find him;
9Jb 23:99שְׂמֹ֣אול בַּעֲשֹׂת֣וֹ וְלֹא־אָ֑חַז יַעְטֹ֥ף יָ֝מִ֗ין וְלֹ֣א אֶרְאֶֽה׃Jb 23:9
He works to the north, but I can’t see him.
He turns south, but I can’t catch a glimpse of him.
Jb 23:9Jb 23:9ἀριστερὰ ποιήσαντος αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐ κατέσχον περιβαλεῖ δεξιά καὶ οὐκ ὄψομαιJb 23:9
When he wrought on the left hand, then I observed it not: his right hand shall encompass me but I shall not see it.

He works to the north, but I can’t see him.
He turns south, but I can’t catch a glimpse of him.
10Jb 23:1010כִּֽי־יָ֭דַע דֶּ֣רֶךְ עִמָּדִ֑י בְּ֝חָנַ֗נִי כַּזָּהָ֥ב אֵצֵֽא׃Jb 23:10
But he knows the way that I take.
When he has tried me, I shall come forth like gold.
Jb 23:10Jb 23:10οἶδεν γὰρ ἤδη ὁδόν μου διέκρινεν δέ με ὥσπερ τὸ χρυσίονJb 23:10
For he knows already my way; and he has tried me as gold.

But he knows the way that I take.
When he has tried me, I shall come forth like gold.
11Jb 23:1111בַּ֭אֲשֻׁרוֹ אָחֲזָ֣ה רַגְלִ֑י דַּרְכּ֖וֹ שָׁמַ֣רְתִּי וְלֹא־אָֽט׃Jb 23:11
My foot has held fast to his steps.
I have kept his way, and not turned aside.
Jb 23:11Jb 23:11ἐξελεύσομαι δὲ ἐν ἐντάλμασιν αὐτοῦ ὁδοὺς γὰρ αὐτοῦ ἐφύλαξα καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐκκλίνωJb 23:11
And I will go forth according to his commandments, for I have kept his ways; and I shall not turn aside from his commandments,

My foot has held fast to his steps.
I have kept his way, and not turned aside.
12Jb 23:1212מִצְוַ֣ת שְׂ֭פָתָיו וְלֹ֣א אָמִ֑ישׁ מֵ֝חֻקִּ֗י צָפַ֥נְתִּי אִמְרֵי־פִֽיו׃Jb 23:12
I haven’t gone back from the commandment of his lips.
I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
Jb 23:12Jb 23:12ἀπὸ ἐνταλμάτων αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐ μὴ παρέλθω ἐν δὲ κόλπῳ μου ἔκρυψα ῥήματα αὐτοῦJb 23:12
neither shall I transgress; but I have hid his words in my bosom.
Jb 23:12
I haven’t gone back from the commandment of his lips.

13Jb 23:1313וְה֣וּא בְ֭אֶחָד וּמִ֣י יְשִׁיבֶ֑נּוּ וְנַפְשׁ֖וֹ אִוְּתָ֣ה וַיָּֽעַשׂ׃Jb 23:13
But he stands alone, and who can oppose him?
What his soul desires, even that he does.
Jb 23:13Jb 23:13εἰ δὲ καὶ αὐτὸς ἔκρινεν οὕτως τίς ἐστιν ὁ ἀντειπὼν αὐτῷ ὃ γὰρ αὐτὸς ἠθέλησεν καὶ ἐποίησενJb 23:13
And if too he has thus judged, who is he that has contradicted, for he has both willed a thing and done it.
Jb 23:13
But he stands alone, and who can oppose him?

14Jb 23:1414כִּ֭י יַשְׁלִ֣ים חֻקִּ֑י וְכָהֵ֖נָּה רַבּ֣וֹת עִמּֽוֹ׃Jb 23:14
For he performs that which is appointed for me.

15Jb 23:1515עַל־כֵּ֭ן מִפָּנָ֣יו אֶבָּהֵ֑ל אֶ֝תְבּוֹנֵ֗ן וְאֶפְחַ֥ד מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃Jb 23:15
Therefore I am terrified at his presence.
When I consider, I am afraid of him.
Jb 23:15Jb 23:15διὰ τοῦτο ἐπ’ αὐτῷ ἐσπούδακα νουθετούμενος δὲ ἐφρόντισα αὐτοῦJb 23:15
Therefore am I troubled at him; and when I was reproved, I thought of him. Therefore let me take good heed before him: I will consider, and be afraid of him.
Jb 23:15
Therefore I am terrified at his presence.
When I consider, I am afraid of him.
16Jb 23:1616וְ֭אֵל הֵרַ֣ךְ לִבִּ֑י וְ֝שַׁדַּ֗י הִבְהִילָֽנִי׃Jb 23:16
For God has made my heart faint.
The Almighty has terrified me.
Jb 23:16Jb 23:16κύριος δὲ ἐμαλάκυνεν τὴν καρδίαν μου ὁ δὲ παντοκράτωρ ἐσπούδασέν μεJb 23:16
But the Lord has softened my heart, and the Almighty has troubled me.
Jb 23:16
For God has made my heart faint.
The Almighty has terrified me.
17Jb 23:1717כִּֽי־לֹ֣א נִ֭צְמַתִּי מִפְּנֵי־חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וּ֝מִפָּנַ֗י כִּסָּה־אֹֽפֶל׃Jb 23:17
Because I was not cut off before the darkness,
neither did he cover the thick darkness from my face.
Jb 23:17Jb 23:17οὐ γὰρ ᾔδειν ὅτι ἐπελεύσεταί μοι σκότος πρὸ προσώπου δέ μου ἐκάλυψεν γνόφοςJb 23:17
For I knew not that darkness would come upon me, and thick darkness has covered me before my face.
Jb 23:17
Because I was not cut off before the darkness,
neither did he cover the thick darkness from my face.
