2Jb 15:22הֶֽחָכָ֗ם יַעֲנֶ֥ה דַֽעַת־ר֑וּחַ וִֽימַלֵּ֖א קָדִ֣ים בִּטְנֽוֹ׃Jb 15:2
“Should a wise man answer with vain knowledge,
and fill himself with the east wind?
Jb 15:2Jb 15:2πότερον σοφὸς ἀπόκρισιν δώσει συνέσεως πνεύματος καὶ ἐνέπλησεν πόνον γαστρὸςJb 15:2
Will a wise man give for answer a mere breath of wisdom? and does he fill up the pain of his belly,

“Should a wise man answer with vain knowledge,
and fill himself with the east wind?
3Jb 15:33הוֹכֵ֣חַ בְּ֭דָבָר לֹ֣א יִסְכּ֑וֹן וּ֝מִלִּ֗ים לֹא־יוֹעִ֥יל בָּֽם׃Jb 15:3
Should he reason with unprofitable talk,
or with speeches with which he can do no good?
Jb 15:3Jb 15:3ἐλέγχων ἐν ῥήμασιν οἷς οὐ δεῖ ἐν λόγοις οἷς οὐδὲν ὄφελοςJb 15:3
reasoning with improper sayings, and with words wherein is no profit?

Should he reason with unprofitable talk,
or with speeches with which he can do no good?
4Jb 15:44אַף־אַ֭תָּה תָּפֵ֣ר יִרְאָ֑ה וְתִגְרַ֥ע שִׂ֝יחָ֗ה לִפְנֵי־אֵֽל׃Jb 15:4
Yes, you do away with fear,
and hinder devotion before God.
Jb 15:4Jb 15:4οὐ καὶ σὺ ἀπεποιήσω φόβον συνετελέσω δὲ ῥήματα τοιαῦτα ἔναντι τοῦ κυρίουJb 15:4
Hast not thou moreover cast off fear, and accomplished such words before the Lord?
Jb 15:4
Yes, you do away with fear,
and hinder devotion before God.
5Jb 15:55כִּ֤י יְאַלֵּ֣ף עֲוֹנְךָ֣ פִ֑יךָ וְ֝תִבְחַ֗ר לְשׁ֣וֹן עֲרוּמִֽים׃Jb 15:5
For your iniquity teaches your mouth,
and you choose the language of the crafty.

Thou art guilty by the words of thy mouth, neither hast thou discerned the words of the mighty.

For your iniquity teaches your mouth,
and you choose the language of the crafty.
6Jb 15:66יַרְשִֽׁיעֲךָ֣ פִ֣יךָ וְלֹא־אָ֑נִי וּ֝שְׂפָתֶ֗יךָ יַעֲנוּ־בָֽךְ׃Jb 15:6
Your own mouth condemns you, and not I.
Yes, your own lips testify against you.
Jb 15:6Jb 15:6ἐλέγξαι σε τὸ σὸν στόμα καὶ μὴ ἐγώ τὰ δὲ χείλη σου καταμαρτυρήσουσίν σουJb 15:6
Let thine own mouth, and not me, reprove thee: and thy lips shall testify against thee.

Your own mouth condemns you, and not I.
Yes, your own lips testify against you.
7Jb 15:77הֲרִאישׁ֣וֹן אָ֭דָם תִּוָּלֵ֑ד וְלִפְנֵ֖י גְבָע֣וֹת חוֹלָֽלְתָּ׃Jb 15:7
“Are you the first man who was born?
Or were you brought forth before the hills?
Jb 15:7Jb 15:7τί γάρ μὴ πρῶτος ἀνθρώπων ἐγενήθης ἢ πρὸ θινῶν ἐπάγηςJb 15:7
What! art thou the first man that was born? or wert thou established before the hills?

“Are you the first man who was born?
Or were you brought forth before the hills?
8Jb 15:88הַבְס֣וֹד אֱל֣וֹהַ תִּשְׁמָ֑ע וְתִגְרַ֖ע אֵלֶ֣יךָ חָכְמָֽה׃Jb 15:8
Have you heard the secret counsel of God?
Do you limit wisdom to yourself?
Jb 15:8Jb 15:8ἦ σύνταγμα κυρίου ἀκήκοας εἰς δὲ σὲ ἀφίκετο σοφίαJb 15:8
Or hast thou heard the ordinance of the Lord? or has God used thee as his counsellor? and has wisdom come only to thee?

Have you heard the secret counsel of God?
Do you limit wisdom to yourself?
9Jb 15:99מַה־יָּ֭דַעְתָּ וְלֹ֣א נֵדָ֑ע תָּ֝בִ֗ין וְֽלֹא־עִמָּ֥נוּ הֽוּא׃Jb 15:9
What do you know, that we don’t know?
What do you understand, which is not in us?
Jb 15:9Jb 15:9τί γὰρ οἶδας ὃ οὐκ οἴδαμεν ἢ τί συνίεις ὃ οὐχὶ καὶ ἡμεῖςJb 15:9
For what knowest thou, that, we know not? or what understandest thou, which we do not also?

What do you know, that we don’t know?
What do you understand, which is not in us?
10Jb 15:1010גַּם־שָׂ֣ב גַּם־יָשִׁ֣ישׁ בָּ֑נוּ כַּבִּ֖יר מֵאָבִ֣יךָ יָמִֽים׃Jb 15:10
With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men,
much elder than your father.
Jb 15:10Jb 15:10καί γε πρεσβύτης καί γε παλαιὸς ἐν ἡμῖν βαρύτερος τοῦ πατρός σου ἡμέραιςJb 15:10
Truly among us are both the old and very aged man, more advanced in days than thy father.

With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men,
much elder than your father.
11Jb 15:1111הַמְעַ֣ט מִ֭מְּךָ תַּנְחֻמ֣וֹת אֵ֑ל וְ֝דָבָ֗ר לָאַ֥ט עִמָּֽךְ׃Jb 15:11
Are the consolations of God too small for you,
even the word that is gentle toward you?
Jb 15:11Jb 15:11ὀλίγα ὧν ἡμάρτηκας μεμαστίγωσαι μεγάλως ὑπερβαλλόντως λελάληκαςJb 15:11
Thou hast been scourged for but few of thy sins: thou hast spoken haughtily and extravagantly.

Are the consolations of God too small for you,
even the word that is gentle toward you?
12Jb 15:1212מַה־יִּקָּחֲךָ֥ לִבֶּ֑ךָ וּֽמַה־יִּרְזְמ֥וּן עֵינֶֽיךָ׃Jb 15:12
Why does your heart carry you away?
Why do your eyes flash,
Jb 15:12Jb 15:12τί ἐτόλμησεν ἡ καρδία σου ἢ τί ἐπήνεγκαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σουJb 15:12
What has thine heart dared? or what have thine eyes aimed at,

Why does your heart carry you away?
Why do your eyes flash,
13Jb 15:1313כִּֽי־תָשִׁ֣יב אֶל־אֵ֣ל רוּחֶ֑ךָ וְהֹצֵ֖אתָ מִפִּ֣יךָ מִלִּֽין׃Jb 15:13
That you turn your spirit against God,
and let such words go out of your mouth?
Jb 15:13Jb 15:13ὅτι θυμὸν ἔρρηξας ἔναντι κυρίου ἐξήγαγες δὲ ἐκ στόματος ῥήματα τοιαῦταJb 15:13
that thou hast vented thy rage before the Lord, and delivered such words from thy mouth?
Jb 15:13
That you turn your spirit against God,
and let such words go out of your mouth?
14Jb 15:1414מָֽה־אֱנ֥וֹשׁ כִּֽי־יִזְכֶּ֑ה וְכִֽי־יִ֝צְדַּ֗ק יְל֣וּד אִשָּֽׁה׃Jb 15:14
What is man, that he should be clean?
What is he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
Jb 15:14Jb 15:14τίς γὰρ ὢν βροτός ὅτι ἔσται ἄμεμπτος ἢ ὡς ἐσόμενος δίκαιος γεννητὸς γυναικόςJb 15:14
For who, being a mortal, is such that he shall be blameless? or, who that is born of a woman, that he should be just?

What is man, that he should be clean?
What is he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
15Jb 15:1515הֵ֣ן ‏{ בקדשו בִּ֭קְדֹשָׁיו }‏ לֹ֣א יַאֲמִ֑ין וְ֝שָׁמַ֗יִם לֹא־זַכּ֥וּ בְעֵינָֽיו׃

Jb 15:15
Behold, he puts no trust in his holy ones.
Yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight;
Jb 15:15Jb 15:15εἰ κατὰ ἁγίων οὐ πιστεύει οὐρανὸς δὲ οὐ καθαρὸς ἐναντίον αὐτοῦJb 15:15
Forasmuch as he trusts not his saints; and the heaven is not pure before him.

Behold, he puts no trust in his holy ones.
Yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight;
16Jb 15:1616אַ֭ף כִּֽי־נִתְעָ֥ב וְֽנֶאֱלָ֑ח אִישׁ־שֹׁתֶ֖ה כַמַּ֣יִם עַוְלָֽה׃Jb 15:16
how much less one who is abominable and corrupt,
a man who drinks iniquity like water!
Jb 15:16Jb 15:16ἔα δὲ ἐβδελυγμένος καὶ ἀκάθαρτος ἀνὴρ πίνων ἀδικίας ἴσα ποτῷJb 15:16
Alas then, abominable and unclean is man, drinking unrighteousness as a draught.

how much less one who is abominable and corrupt,
a man who drinks iniquity like water!
17Jb 15:1717אֲחַוְךָ֥ שְֽׁמַֽע־לִ֑י וְזֶֽה־חָ֝זִ֗יתִי וַאֲסַפֵּֽרָה׃Jb 15:17
“I will show you, listen to me;
that which I have seen I will declare:
Jb 15:17Jb 15:17ἀναγγελῶ δέ σοι ἄκουέ μου ἃ δὴ ἑώρακα ἀναγγελῶ σοιJb 15:17
But I will tell thee, hearken to me; I will tell thee now what I have seen;
Jb 15:17
“I will show you, listen to me;
that which I have seen I will declare:
18Jb 15:1818אֲשֶׁר־חֲכָמִ֥ים יַגִּ֑ידוּ וְלֹ֥א כִֽ֝חֲד֗וּ מֵאֲבוֹתָֽם׃Jb 15:18
(Which wise men have told by their fathers,
and have not hidden it;
Jb 15:18Jb 15:18ἃ σοφοὶ ἐροῦσιν καὶ οὐκ ἔκρυψαν πατέρας αὐτῶνJb 15:18
things wise men say, and their fathers have not hidden.
Jb 15:18
(Which wise men have told by their fathers,
and have not hidden it;
19Jb 15:1919לָהֶ֣ם לְ֭בַדָּם נִתְּנָ֣ה הָאָ֑רֶץ וְלֹא־עָ֖בַר זָ֣ר בְּתוֹכָֽם׃Jb 15:19
to whom alone the land was given,
and no stranger passed among them):
Jb 15:19Jb 15:19αὐτοῖς μόνοις ἐδόθη ἡ γῆ καὶ οὐκ ἐπῆλθεν ἀλλογενὴς ἐπ’ αὐτούςJb 15:19
To them alone the earth was given, and no stranger came upon them.
Jb 15:19
to whom alone the land was given,
and no stranger passed among them):
20Jb 15:2020כָּל־יְמֵ֣י רָ֭שָׁע ה֣וּא מִתְחוֹלֵ֑ל וּמִסְפַּ֥ר שָׁ֝נִ֗ים נִצְפְּנ֥וּ לֶעָרִֽיץ׃Jb 15:20
the wicked man writhes in pain all his days,
even the number of years that are laid up for the oppressor.
Jb 15:20Jb 15:20πᾶς ὁ βίος ἀσεβοῦς ἐν φροντίδι ἔτη δὲ ἀριθμητὰ δεδομένα δυνάστῃJb 15:20
All the life of the ungodly is spent in care, and the years granted to the oppressor are numbered.

the wicked man writhes in pain all his days,
even the number of years that are laid up for the oppressor.
21Jb 15:2121קוֹל־פְּחָדִ֥ים בְּאָזְנָ֑יו בַּ֝שָּׁל֗וֹם שׁוֹדֵ֥ד יְבוֹאֶֽנּוּ׃Jb 15:21
A sound of terrors is in his ears.
In prosperity the destroyer shall come on him.
Jb 15:21Jb 15:21ὁ δὲ φόβος αὐτοῦ ἐν ὠσὶν αὐτοῦ ὅταν δοκῇ ἤδη εἰρηνεύειν ἥξει αὐτοῦ ἡ καταστροφήJb 15:21
And his terror is in his ears: just when he seems to be at peace, his overthrow will come.

A sound of terrors is in his ears.
In prosperity the destroyer shall come on him.
22Jb 15:2222לֹא־יַאֲמִ֣ין שׁ֭וּב מִנִּי־חֹ֑שֶׁךְ ‏{ וצפו וְצָפ֖וּי }‏ ה֣וּא אֱלֵי־חָֽרֶב׃

Jb 15:22
He doesn’t believe that he shall return out of darkness.
He is waited for by the sword.
Jb 15:22Jb 15:22μὴ πιστευέτω ἀποστραφῆναι ἀπὸ σκότους ἐντέταλται γὰρ ἤδη εἰς χεῖρας σιδήρουJb 15:22
Let him not trust that he shall return from darkness, for he has been already made over to the power of the sword.
Jb 15:22
He doesn’t believe that he shall return out of darkness.
He is waited for by the sword.
23Jb 15:2323נֹ֘דֵ֤ד ה֣וּא לַלֶּ֣חֶם אַיֵּ֑ה יָדַ֓ע ׀ כִּֽי־נָכ֖וֹן בְּיָד֣וֹ יֽוֹם־חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃Jb 15:23
He wanders abroad for bread, saying, ‘Where is it?’
He knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
Jb 15:23Jb 15:23κατατέτακται δὲ εἰς σῖτα γυψίν οἶδεν δὲ ἐν ἑαυτῷ ὅτι μένει εἰς πτῶμα ἡμέρα δὲ αὐτὸν σκοτεινὴ στροβήσειJb 15:23
And he has been appointed to be food for vultures; and he knows within himself that he is doomed to be a carcass: and a dark day shall carry him away as with a whirlwind.

24Jb 15:2424יְֽ֭בַעֲתֻהוּ צַ֣ר וּמְצוּקָ֑ה תִּ֝תְקְפֵ֗הוּ כְּמֶ֤לֶךְ ׀ עָתִ֬יד לַכִּידֽוֹר׃Jb 15:24
Distress and anguish make him afraid.
They prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
Jb 15:24Jb 15:24ἀνάγκη δὲ καὶ θλῖψις αὐτὸν καθέξει ὥσπερ στρατηγὸς πρωτοστάτης πίπτωνJb 15:24
Distress also and anguish shall come upon him: he shall fall as a captain in the first rank.

Distress and anguish make him afraid.
They prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
25Jb 15:2525כִּֽי־נָטָ֣ה אֶל־אֵ֣ל יָד֑וֹ וְאֶל־שַׁ֝דַּ֗י יִתְגַּבָּֽר׃Jb 15:25
Because he has stretched out his hand against God,
and behaves himself proudly against the Almighty;
Jb 15:25Jb 15:25ὅτι ἦρκεν χεῖρας ἐναντίον τοῦ κυρίου ἔναντι δὲ κυρίου παντοκράτορος ἐτραχηλίασενJb 15:25
For he has lifted his hands against the Lord, and he has hardened his neck against the Almighty Lord.
Jb 15:25
Because he has stretched out his hand against God,
and behaves himself proudly against the Almighty;
26Jb 15:2626יָר֣וּץ אֵלָ֣יו בְּצַוָּ֑אר בַּ֝עֲבִ֗י גַּבֵּ֥י מָֽגִנָּֽיו׃Jb 15:26
he runs at him with a stiff neck,
with the thick shields of his bucklers;
Jb 15:26Jb 15:26ἔδραμεν δὲ ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ ὕβρει ἐν πάχει νώτου ἀσπίδος αὐτοῦJb 15:26
And he has run against him with insolence, on the thickness of the back of his shield.

he runs at him with a stiff neck,
with the thick shields of his bucklers;
27Jb 15:2727כִּֽי־כִסָּ֣ה פָנָ֣יו בְּחֶלְבּ֑וֹ וַיַּ֖עַשׂ פִּימָ֣ה עֲלֵי־כָֽסֶל׃Jb 15:27
because he has covered his face with his fatness,
and gathered fat on his thighs.
Jb 15:27Jb 15:27ὅτι ἐκάλυψεν τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐν στέατι αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐποίησεν περιστόμιον ἐπὶ τῶν μηρίωνJb 15:27
For he has covered his face with his fat, and made layers of fat upon his thighs.

because he has covered his face with his fatness,
and gathered fat on his thighs.
28Jb 15:2828וַיִּשְׁכּ֤וֹן ׀ עָ֘רִ֤ים נִכְחָד֗וֹת בָּ֭תִּים לֹא־יֵ֣שְׁבוּ לָ֑מוֹ אֲשֶׁ֖ר הִתְעַתְּד֣וּ לְגַלִּֽים׃Jb 15:28
He has lived in desolate cities,
in houses which no one inhabited,
which were ready to become heaps.
Jb 15:28Jb 15:28αὐλισθείη δὲ πόλεις ἐρήμους εἰσέλθοι δὲ εἰς οἴκους ἀοικήτους ἃ δὲ ἐκεῖνοι ἡτοίμασαν ἄλλοι ἀποίσονταιJb 15:28
And let him lodge in desolate cities, and enter into houses without inhabitant: and what they have prepared, others shall carry away.
Jb 15:28
He has lived in desolate cities,
in houses which no one inhabited,
which were ready to become heaps.
29Jb 15:2929לֹֽא־יֶ֭עְשַׁר וְלֹא־יָק֣וּם חֵיל֑וֹ וְלֹֽא־יִטֶּ֖ה לָאָ֣רֶץ מִנְלָֽם׃Jb 15:29
He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue,
neither shall their possessions be extended on the earth.
Jb 15:29Jb 15:29οὔτε μὴ πλουτισθῇ οὔτε μὴ μείνῃ αὐτοῦ τὰ ὑπάρχοντα οὐ μὴ βάλῃ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν σκιὰνJb 15:29
Neither shall he at all grow rich, nor shall his substance remain: he shall not cast a shadow upon the earth.

He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue,
neither shall their possessions be extended on the earth.
30Jb 15:3030לֹֽא־יָס֨וּר ׀ מִנִּי־חֹ֗שֶׁךְ יֹֽ֭נַקְתּוֹ תְּיַבֵּ֣שׁ שַׁלְהָ֑בֶת וְ֝יָס֗וּר בְּר֣וּחַ פִּֽיו׃Jb 15:30
He shall not depart out of darkness.
The flame shall dry up his branches.
By the breath of God’s mouth shall he go away.
Jb 15:30Jb 15:30οὐδὲ μὴ ἐκφύγῃ τὸ σκότος τὸν βλαστὸν αὐτοῦ μαράναι ἄνεμος ἐκπέσοι δὲ αὐτοῦ τὸ ἄνθοςJb 15:30
Neither shall he in any wise escape the darkness: let the wind blast his blossom, and let his flower fall off.
Jb 15:30
He shall not depart out of darkness.
The flame shall dry up his branches.
By the breath of God’s mouth shall he go away.
31Jb 15:3131אַל־יַאֲמֵ֣ן ‏{ בשו בַּשָּׁ֣יו }‏ נִתְעָ֑ה כִּי־שָׁ֝֗וְא תִּהְיֶ֥ה תְמוּרָתֽוֹ׃

Jb 15:31
Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself;
for emptiness shall be his reward.
Jb 15:31Jb 15:31μὴ πιστευέτω ὅτι ὑπομενεῖ κενὰ γὰρ ἀποβήσεται αὐτῷJb 15:31
Let him not think that he shall endure; for his end shall be vanity.
Jb 15:31
Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself;
for emptiness shall be his reward.
32Jb 15:3232בְּֽלֹא־י֭וֹמוֹ תִּמָּלֵ֑א וְ֝כִפָּת֗וֹ לֹ֣א רַעֲנָֽנָה׃Jb 15:32
It shall be accomplished before his time.
His branch shall not be green.
Jb 15:32Jb 15:32ἡ τομὴ αὐτοῦ πρὸ ὥρας φθαρήσεται καὶ ὁ ῥάδαμνος αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ πυκάσῃJb 15:32
His harvest shall perish before the time, and his branch shall not flourish.
Jb 15:32
It shall be accomplished before his time.
His branch shall not be green.
33Jb 15:3333יַחְמֹ֣ס כַּגֶּ֣פֶן בִּסְר֑וֹ וְיַשְׁלֵ֥ךְ כַּ֝זַּ֗יִת נִצָּתֽוֹ׃Jb 15:33
He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine,
and shall cast off his flower as the olive tree.
Jb 15:33Jb 15:33τρυγηθείη δὲ ὥσπερ ὄμφαξ πρὸ ὥρας ἐκπέσοι δὲ ὡς ἄνθος ἐλαίαςJb 15:33
And let him be gathered as the unripe grape before the time, and let him fall as the blossom of the olive.
Jb 15:33
He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine,
and shall cast off his flower as the olive tree.
34Jb 15:3434כִּֽי־עֲדַ֣ת חָנֵ֣ף גַּלְמ֑וּד וְ֝אֵ֗שׁ אָכְלָ֥ה אָֽהֳלֵי־שֹֽׁחַד׃Jb 15:34
For the company of the godless shall be barren,
and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.
Jb 15:34Jb 15:34μαρτύριον γὰρ ἀσεβοῦς θάνατος πῦρ δὲ καύσει οἴκους δωροδεκτῶνJb 15:34
For death is the witness of an ungodly man, and fire shall burn the houses of them that receive gifts.
Jb 15:34
For the company of the godless shall be barren,
and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.
35Jb 15:3535הָרֹ֣ה עָ֭מָל וְיָ֣לֹד אָ֑וֶן וּ֝בִטְנָ֗ם תָּכִ֥ין מִרְמָֽה׃ ס Jb 15:35
They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.
Their heart prepares deceit.”
Jb 15:35Jb 15:35ἐν γαστρὶ δὲ λήμψεται ὀδύνας ἀποβήσεται δὲ αὐτῷ κενά ἡ δὲ κοιλία αὐτοῦ ὑποίσει δόλονJb 15:35
