And Job answered and said,

¶Then Job answered,
2Jb 12:22אָ֭מְנָם כִּ֣י אַתֶּם־עָ֑ם וְ֝עִמָּכֶ֗ם תָּמ֥וּת חָכְמָֽה׃Jb 12:2
“No doubt, but you are the people,
and wisdom shall die with you.
Jb 12:2Jb 12:2εἶτα ὑμεῖς ἐστε ἄνθρωποι ἦ μεθ’ ὑμῶν τελευτήσει σοφίαJb 12:2
So then ye alone are men, and wisdom shall die with you?
Jb 12:2
“No doubt, but you are the people,
and wisdom shall die with you.
3Jb 12:33גַּם־לִ֤י לֵבָ֨ב ׀ כְּֽמוֹכֶ֗ם לֹא־נֹפֵ֣ל אָנֹכִ֣י מִכֶּ֑ם וְאֶת־מִי־אֵ֥ין כְּמוֹ־אֵֽלֶּה׃Jb 12:3
But I have understanding as well as you;
I am not inferior to you.
Yes, who doesn’t know such things as these?
Jb 12:3Jb 12:3κἀμοὶ μὲν καρδία καθ’ ὑμᾶς ἐστινJb 12:3
But I also have a heart as well as you.

4Jb 12:44שְׂחֹ֤ק לְרֵעֵ֨הוּ ׀ אֶֽהְיֶ֗ה קֹרֵ֣א לֶ֭אֱלוֹהַּ וַֽיַּעֲנֵ֑הוּ שְׂ֝ח֗וֹק צַדִּ֥יק תָּמִֽים׃Jb 12:4
I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor,
I, who called on God, and he answered.
The just, the blameless man is a joke.
Jb 12:4Jb 12:4δίκαιος γὰρ ἀνὴρ καὶ ἄμεμπτος ἐγενήθη εἰς χλεύασμαJb 12:4
For a righteous and blameless man has become a subject for mockery.
Jb 12:4
I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor,
I, who called on God, and he answered.
The just, the blameless man is a joke.
5Jb 12:55לַפִּ֣יד בּ֭וּז לְעַשְׁתּ֣וּת שַׁאֲנָ֑ן נָ֝כ֗וֹן לְמ֣וֹעֲדֵי רָֽגֶל׃Jb 12:5
In the thought of him who is at ease there is contempt for misfortune.
It is ready for them whose foot slips.
Jb 12:5Jb 12:5εἰς χρόνον γὰρ τακτὸν ἡτοίμαστο πεσεῖν ὑπὸ ἄλλους οἴκους τε αὐτοῦ ἐκπορθεῖσθαι ὑπὸ ἀνόμωνJb 12:5
For it had been ordained that he should fall under others at the appointed time, and that his houses should be spoiled by transgressors: let not however any one trust that, being evil, he shall be held guiltless,

6Jb 12:66יִשְׁלָ֤יוּ אֹֽהָלִ֨ים ׀ לְשֹׁ֥דְדִ֗ים וּֽ֭בַטֻּחוֹת לְמַרְגִּ֣יזֵי אֵ֑ל לַאֲשֶׁ֤ר הֵבִ֖יא אֱל֣וֹהַּ בְּיָדֽוֹ׃Jb 12:6
The tents of robbers prosper.
Those who provoke God are secure,
who carry their God in their hands.
Jb 12:6Jb 12:6οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ μηδεὶς πεποιθέτω πονηρὸς ὢν ἀθῷος ἔσεσθαι ὅσοι παροργίζουσιν τὸν κύριον ὡς οὐχὶ καὶ ἔτασις αὐτῶν ἔσταιJb 12:6
even as many as provoke the Lord, as if there were indeed to be no inquisition made of them.

7Jb 12:77וְֽאוּלָ֗ם שְׁאַל־נָ֣א בְהֵמ֣וֹת וְתֹרֶ֑ךָּ וְע֥וֹף הַ֝שָּׁמַ֗יִם וְיַגֶּד־לָֽךְ׃Jb 12:7
“But ask the animals, now, and they shall teach you;
the birds of the sky, and they shall tell you.
Jb 12:7Jb 12:7ἀλλὰ δὴ ἐπερώτησον τετράποδα ἐάν σοι εἴπωσιν πετεινὰ δὲ οὐρανοῦ ἐάν σοι ἀπαγγείλωσινJb 12:7
But ask now the beasts, if they may speak to thee; and the birds of the air, if they may declare to thee.

“But ask the animals, now, and they shall teach you;
the birds of the sky, and they shall tell you.
8Jb 12:88א֤וֹ שִׂ֣יחַ לָאָ֣רֶץ וְתֹרֶ֑ךָּ וִֽיסַפְּר֥וּ לְ֝ךָ֗ דְּגֵ֣י הַיָּֽם׃Jb 12:8
Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you.
The fish of the sea shall declare to you.
Jb 12:8Jb 12:8ἐκδιήγησαι δὲ γῇ ἐάν σοι φράσῃ καὶ ἐξηγήσονταί σοι οἱ ἰχθύες τῆς θαλάσσηςJb 12:8
Tell the earth, if it may speak to thee: and the fishes of the sea shall explain to thee.
Jb 12:8
Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you.
The fish of the sea shall declare to you.
9Jb 12:99מִ֭י לֹא־יָדַ֣ע בְּכָל־אֵ֑לֶּה כִּ֥י יַד־יְ֝הוָה עָ֣שְׂתָה זֹּֽאת׃Jb 12:9
Who doesn’t know that in all these,
the hand of Yahweh has done this,
Jb 12:9Jb 12:9τίς οὐκ ἔγνω ἐν πᾶσι τούτοις ὅτι χεὶρ κυρίου ἐποίησεν ταῦταJb 12:9
Who then has not known in all these things, that the hand of the Lord has made them?

Who doesn’t know that in all these,
the hand of Yahweh has done this,
10Jb 12:1010אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּ֭יָדוֹ נֶ֣פֶשׁ כָּל־חָ֑י וְ֝ר֗וּחַ כָּל־בְּשַׂר־אִֽישׁ׃Jb 12:10
in whose hand is the life of every living thing,
and the breath of all mankind?
Jb 12:10Jb 12:10εἰ μὴ ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ ψυχὴ πάντων τῶν ζώντων καὶ πνεῦμα παντὸς ἀνθρώπουJb 12:10
Whereas the life of all living things is in his hand, and the breath of every man.

in whose hand is the life of every living thing,
and the breath of all mankind?
11Jb 12:1111הֲלֹא־אֹ֭זֶן מִלִּ֣ין תִּבְחָ֑ן וְ֝חֵ֗ךְ אֹ֣כֶל יִטְעַם־לֽוֹ׃Jb 12:11
Doesn’t the ear try words,
even as the palate tastes its food?
Jb 12:11Jb 12:11οὖς μὲν γὰρ ῥήματα διακρίνει λάρυγξ δὲ σῖτα γεύεταιJb 12:11
For the ear tries words, and the palate tastes meats.
Jb 12:11
Doesn’t the ear try words,
even as the palate tastes its food?
12Jb 12:1212בִּֽישִׁישִׁ֥ים חָכְמָ֑ה וְאֹ֖רֶךְ יָמִ֣ים תְּבוּנָֽה׃Jb 12:12
With aged men is wisdom,
in length of days understanding.
Jb 12:12Jb 12:12ἐν πολλῷ χρόνῳ σοφία ἐν δὲ πολλῷ βίῳ ἐπιστήμηJb 12:12
In length of time is wisdom, and in long life knowledge.

13Jb 12:1313עִ֭מּוֹ חָכְמָ֣ה וּגְבוּרָ֑ה ל֝֗וֹ עֵצָ֥ה וּתְבוּנָֽה׃Jb 12:13
“With God is wisdom and might.
He has counsel and understanding.
Jb 12:13Jb 12:13παρ’ αὐτῷ σοφία καὶ δύναμις αὐτῷ βουλὴ καὶ σύνεσιςJb 12:13
With him are wisdom and power, with him counsel and understanding.

“With God is wisdom and might.
He has counsel and understanding.
14Jb 12:1414הֵ֣ן יַ֭הֲרוֹס וְלֹ֣א יִבָּנֶ֑ה יִסְגֹּ֥ר עַל־אִ֝֗ישׁ וְלֹ֣א יִפָּתֵֽחַ׃Jb 12:14
Behold, he breaks down, and it can’t be built again.
He imprisons a man, and there can be no release.
Jb 12:14Jb 12:14ἐὰν καταβάλῃ τίς οἰκοδομήσει ἐὰν κλείσῃ κατὰ ἀνθρώπων τίς ἀνοίξειJb 12:14
If he should cast down, who will build up? if he should shut up against man, who shall open?

Behold, he breaks down, and it can’t be built again.

15Jb 12:1515הֵ֤ן יַעְצֹ֣ר בַּמַּ֣יִם וְיִבָ֑שׁוּ וִֽ֝ישַׁלְּחֵ֗ם וְיַ֖הַפְכוּ אָֽרֶץ׃Jb 12:15
Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up.
Again, he sends them out, and they overturn the earth.
Jb 12:15Jb 12:15ἐὰν κωλύσῃ τὸ ὥδωρ ξηρανεῖ τὴν γῆν ἐὰν δὲ ἐπαφῇ ἀπώλεσεν αὐτὴν καταστρέψαςJb 12:15
If he should withhold the water, he will dry the earth: and if he should let it loose, he overthrows and destroys it.

Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up.
Again, he sends them out, and they overturn the earth.
16Jb 12:1616עִ֭מּוֹ עֹ֣ז וְתֽוּשִׁיָּ֑ה ל֝֗וֹ שֹׁגֵ֥ג וּמַשְׁגֶּֽה׃Jb 12:16
With him is strength and wisdom.
The deceived and the deceiver are his.
Jb 12:16Jb 12:16παρ’ αὐτῷ κράτος καὶ ἰσχύς αὐτῷ ἐπιστήμη καὶ σύνεσιςJb 12:16
With him are strength and power: he has knowledge and understanding.
Jb 12:16
With him is strength and wisdom.
The deceived and the deceiver are his.
17Jb 12:1717מוֹלִ֣יךְ יוֹעֲצִ֣ים שׁוֹלָ֑ל וְֽשֹׁפְטִ֥ים יְהוֹלֵֽל׃Jb 12:17
He leads counselors away stripped.
He makes judges fools.
Jb 12:17Jb 12:17διάγων βουλευτὰς αἰχμαλώτους κριτὰς δὲ γῆς ἐξέστησενJb 12:17
He leads counsellors away captive, and maddens the judges of the earth.

18Jb 12:1818מוּסַ֣ר מְלָכִ֣ים פִּתֵּ֑חַ וַיֶּאְסֹ֥ר אֵ֝ז֗וֹר בְּמָתְנֵיהֶֽם׃Jb 12:18
He loosens the bond of kings.
He binds their waist with a belt.
Jb 12:18Jb 12:18καθιζάνων βασιλεῖς ἐπὶ θρόνους καὶ περιέδησεν ζώνῃ ὀσφύας αὐτῶνJb 12:18
He seats kings upon thrones, and girds their loins with a girdle.

He loosens the bond of kings.
He binds their waist with a belt.
19Jb 12:1919מוֹלִ֣יךְ כֹּהֲנִ֣ים שׁוֹלָ֑ל וְאֵֽתָנִ֣ים יְסַלֵּֽף׃Jb 12:19
He leads priests away stripped,
and overthrows the mighty.
Jb 12:19Jb 12:19ἐξαποστέλλων ἱερεῖς αἰχμαλώτους δυνάστας δὲ γῆς κατέστρεψενJb 12:19
He sends away priests into captivity, and overthrows the mighty ones of the earth.

He leads priests away stripped,
and overthrows the mighty.
20Jb 12:2020מֵסִ֣יר שָׂ֭פָה לְנֶאֱמָנִ֑ים וְטַ֖עַם זְקֵנִ֣ים יִקָּֽח׃Jb 12:20
He removes the speech of those who are trusted,
and takes away the understanding of the elders.
Jb 12:20Jb 12:20διαλλάσσων χείλη πιστῶν σύνεσιν δὲ πρεσβυτέρων ἔγνωJb 12:20
He changes the lips of the trusty, and he knows the understanding of the elders.

He removes the speech of those who are trusted,
and takes away the understanding of the elders.
21Jb 12:2121שׁוֹפֵ֣ךְ בּ֭וּז עַל־נְדִיבִ֑ים וּמְזִ֖יחַ אֲפִיקִ֣ים רִפָּֽה׃Jb 12:21
He pours contempt on princes,
and loosens the belt of the strong.
Jb 12:21Jb 12:21ἐκχέων ἀτιμίαν ἐπ’ ἄρχοντας ταπεινοὺς δὲ ἰάσατοJb 12:21
He pours dishonour upon princes, and heals the lowly.
Jb 12:21
He pours contempt on princes,
and loosens the belt of the strong.
22Jb 12:2222מְגַלֶּ֣ה עֲ֭מֻקוֹת מִנִּי־חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וַיֹּצֵ֖א לָא֣וֹר צַלְמָֽוֶת׃Jb 12:22
He uncovers deep things out of darkness,
and brings out to light the shadow of death.
Jb 12:22Jb 12:22ἀνακαλύπτων βαθέα ἐκ σκότους ἐξήγαγεν δὲ εἰς φῶς σκιὰν θανάτουJb 12:22
Revealing deep things out of darkness: and he has brought into light the shadow of death.

He uncovers deep things out of darkness,
and brings out to light the shadow of death.
23Jb 12:2323מַשְׂגִּ֣יא לַ֭גּוֹיִם וַֽיְאַבְּדֵ֑ם שֹׁטֵ֥חַ לַ֝גּוֹיִ֗ם וַיַּנְחֵֽם׃Jb 12:23
He increases the nations, and he destroys them.
He enlarges the nations, and he leads them captive.
Jb 12:23Jb 12:23πλανῶν ἔθνη καὶ ἀπολλύων αὐτά καταστρωννύων ἔθνη καὶ καθοδηγῶν αὐτάJb 12:23
Causing the nations to wander, and destroying them: overthrowing the nations, and leading them away.

24Jb 12:2424מֵסִ֗יר לֵ֭ב רָאשֵׁ֣י עַם־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַ֝יַּתְעֵ֗ם בְּתֹ֣הוּ לֹא־דָֽרֶךְ׃Jb 12:24
He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth,
and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.
Jb 12:24Jb 12:24διαλλάσσων καρδίας ἀρχόντων γῆς ἐπλάνησεν δὲ αὐτοὺς ὁδῷ ᾗ οὐκ ᾔδεισανJb 12:24
Perplexing the minds of the princes of the earth: and he causes them to wander in a way, they have not known, saying,

Let them grope in darkness, and let there be no light, and let them wander as a drunken man.
Jb 12:25
They grope in the dark without light.
