¶The burden of the wilderness of the sea. As whirlwinds in the South sweep through, it comes from the wilderness, from an awesome land.
Is 21:1Is 21:1τὸ ὅραμα τῆς ἐρήμου ὡς καταιγὶς δι’ ἐρήμου διέλθοι ἐξ ἐρήμου ἐρχομένη ἐκ γῆς φοβερὸνIs 21:1
THE VISION OF THE DESERT. As though a whirlwind should pass through the desert, coming from a desert, even from such a land,
Is 21:1
¶The burden of the wilderness of the sea. As whirlwinds in the South sweep through, it comes from the wilderness, from an awesome land.
2Is 21:22חָז֥וּת קָשָׁ֖ה הֻגַּד־לִ֑י הַבּוֹגֵ֤ד ׀ בּוֹגֵד֙ וְהַשּׁוֹדֵ֣ד ׀ שׁוֹדֵ֔ד עֲלִ֤י עֵילָם֙ צוּרִ֣י מָדַ֔י כָּל־אַנְחָתָ֖ה הִשְׁבַּֽתִּי׃Is 21:2
A grievous vision is declared to me. The treacherous man deals treacherously, and the destroyer destroys. Go up, Elam; attack! I have stopped all of Media’s sighing.
Is 21:2Is 21:2τὸ ὅραμα καὶ σκληρὸν ἀνηγγέλη μοι ὁ ἀθετῶν ἀθετεῖ ὁ ἀνομῶν ἀνομεῖ ἐπ’ ἐμοὶ οἱ Αιλαμῖται καὶ οἱ πρέσβεις τῶν Περσῶν ἐπ’ ἐμὲ ἔρχονται νῦν στενάξω καὶ παρακαλέσω ἐμαυτόνIs 21:2
so a fearful and a grievous vision was declared to me: he that is treacherous deals treacherously, the transgressor transgresses. The Elamites are upon me, and the ambassadors of the Persians come against me: now will I groan and comfort myself.

A grievous vision is declared to me. The treacherous man deals treacherously, and the destroyer destroys. Go up, Elam; attack! I have stopped all of Media’s sighing.
3Is 21:33עַל־כֵּ֗ן מָלְא֤וּ מָתְנַי֙ חַלְחָלָ֔ה צִירִ֣ים אֲחָז֔וּנִי כְּצִירֵ֖י יֽוֹלֵדָ֑ה נַעֲוֵ֣יתִי מִשְּׁמֹ֔עַ נִבְהַ֖לְתִּי מֵרְאֽוֹת׃Is 21:3
Therefore my thighs are filled with anguish. Pains have taken hold on me, like the pains of a woman in labor. I am in so much pain that I can’t hear. I so am dismayed that I can’t see.
Is 21:3Is 21:3διὰ τοῦτο ἐνεπλήσθη ἡ ὀσφύς μου ἐκλύσεως καὶ ὠδῖνες ἔλαβόν με ὡς τὴν τίκτουσαν ἠδίκησα τὸ μὴ ἀκοῦσαι ἐσπούδασα τὸ μὴ βλέπεινIs 21:3
Therefore are my loins filled with feebleness, and pangs have seized me as a travailing woman: I dealt wrongfully that I might not hear; I hasted that I might not see.

4Is 21:44תָּעָ֣ה לְבָבִ֔י פַּלָּצ֖וּת בִּֽעֲתָ֑תְנִי אֵ֚ת נֶ֣שֶׁף חִשְׁקִ֔י שָׂ֥ם לִ֖י לַחֲרָדָֽה׃Is 21:4
My heart flutters. Horror has frightened me. The twilight that I desired has been turned into trembling for me.
Is 21:4Is 21:4ἡ καρδία μου πλανᾶται καὶ ἡ ἀνομία με βαπτίζει ἡ ψυχή μου ἐφέστηκεν εἰς φόβονIs 21:4
My heart wanders, and transgression overwhelms me; my soul is occupied with fear.

My heart flutters. Horror has frightened me. The twilight that I desired has been turned into trembling for me.
5Is 21:55עָרֹ֧ךְ הַשֻּׁלְחָ֛ן צָפֹ֥ה הַצָּפִ֖ית אָכ֣וֹל שָׁתֹ֑ה ק֥וּמוּ הַשָּׂרִ֖ים מִשְׁח֥וּ מָגֵֽן׃ פ Is 21:5
They prepare the table. They set the watch. They eat. They drink. Rise up, you princes, oil the shield!
Is 21:5Is 21:5ἑτοίμασον τὴν τράπεζαν πίετε φάγετε ἀναστάντες οἱ ἄρχοντες ἑτοιμάσατε θυρεούςIs 21:5
Prepare the table, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and prepare your shields.
Is 21:5
They prepare the table. They set the watch. They eat. They drink. Rise up, you princes, oil the shield!
6Is 21:66כִּ֣י כֹ֥ה אָמַ֛ר אֵלַ֖י אֲדֹנָ֑י לֵ֚ךְ הַעֲמֵ֣ד הַֽמְצַפֶּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִרְאֶ֖ה יַגִּֽיד׃Is 21:6
For the Lord said to me, “Go, set a watchman. Let him declare what he sees.
Is 21:6Is 21:6ὅτι οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος πρός με βαδίσας σεαυτῷ στῆσον σκοπὸν καὶ ὃ ἂν ἴδῃς ἀνάγγειλονIs 21:6
For thus said the Lord to me, Go and station a watchman for thyself, and declare whatever thou shalt see.
Is 21:6
For the Lord said to me, “Go, set a watchman. Let him declare what he sees.
7Is 21:77וְרָ֣אָה רֶ֗כֶב צֶ֚מֶד פָּֽרָשִׁ֔ים רֶ֥כֶב חֲמ֖וֹר רֶ֣כֶב גָּמָ֑ל וְהִקְשִׁ֥יב קֶ֖שֶׁב רַב־קָֽשֶׁב׃Is 21:7
When he sees a troop, horsemen in pairs, a troop of donkeys, a troop of camels, he shall listen diligently with great attentiveness.”
Is 21:7Is 21:7καὶ εἶδον ἀναβάτας ἱππεῖς δύο ἀναβάτην ὄνου καὶ ἀναβάτην καμήλου ἀκρόασαι ἀκρόασιν πολλὴνIs 21:7
And I saw two mounted horsemen, and a rider on an ass, and a rider on a camel.
Is 21:7
When he sees a troop, horsemen in pairs, a troop of donkeys, a troop of camels, he shall listen diligently with great attentiveness.”
8Is 21:88וַיִּקְרָ֖א אַרְיֵ֑ה עַל־מִצְפֶּ֣ה ׀ אֲדֹנָ֗י אָנֹכִ֞י עֹמֵ֤ד תָּמִיד֙ יוֹמָ֔ם וְעַל־מִ֨שְׁמַרְתִּ֔י אָנֹכִ֥י נִצָּ֖ב כָּל־הַלֵּילֽוֹת׃Is 21:8
He cried like a lion: “Lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and every night I stay at my post.
Is 21:8Is 21:8καὶ κάλεσον Ουριαν εἰς τὴν σκοπιὰν κυρίου καὶ εἶπεν ἔστην διὰ παντὸς ἡμέρας καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς παρεμβολῆς ἔστην ὅλην τὴν νύκταIs 21:8
Hearken with great attention, and call thou Urias to the watch-tower: the Lord has spoken. I stood continually during the day, and I stood in the camp all night:
Is 21:8
He cried like a lion: “Lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and every night I stay at my post.
9Is 21:99וְהִנֵּה־זֶ֥ה בָא֙ רֶ֣כֶב אִ֔ישׁ צֶ֖מֶד פָּֽרָשִׁ֑ים וַיַּ֣עַן וַיֹּ֗אמֶר נָפְלָ֤ה נָֽפְלָה֙ בָּבֶ֔ל וְכָל־פְּסִילֵ֥י אֱלֹהֶ֖יהָ שִׁבַּ֥ר לָאָֽרֶץ׃Is 21:9
Behold, here comes a troop of men, horsemen in pairs.” He answered, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the engraved images of her gods are broken to the ground.
Is 21:9Is 21:9καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς ἔρχεται ἀναβάτης συνωρίδος καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν πέπτωκεν Βαβυλών καὶ πάντα τὰ ἀγάλματα αὐτῆς καὶ τὰ χειροποίητα αὐτῆς συνετρίβησαν εἰς τὴν γῆνIs 21:9
and, behold, he comes riding in a chariot and pair: and he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all her images and her idols have been crushed to the ground.
Is 21:9
Behold, here comes a troop of men, horsemen in pairs.” He answered, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the engraved images of her gods are broken to the ground.
10Is 21:1010מְדֻשָׁתִ֖י וּבֶן־גָּרְנִ֑י אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁמַ֗עְתִּי מֵאֵ֨ת יְהוָ֧ה צְבָא֛וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הִגַּ֥דְתִּי לָכֶֽם׃ ס Is 21:10
You are my threshing, and the grain of my floor!” That which I have heard from Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, I have declared to you.
Is 21:10Is 21:10ἀκούσατε οἱ καταλελειμμένοι καὶ οἱ ὀδυνώμενοι ἀκούσατε ἃ ἤκουσα παρὰ κυρίου σαβαωθ ὁ θεὸς τοῦ Ισραηλ ἀνήγγειλεν ἡμῖνIs 21:10
Hear, ye that are left, and ye that are in pain, hear what things I have heard of the Lord of hosts which the God of Israel has declared to us. THE VISION OF IDUMEA.
Is 21:10
You are my threshing, and the grain of my floor!” That which I have heard from Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, I have declared to you.
11Is 21:1111מַשָּׂ֖א דּוּמָ֑ה אֵלַי֙ קֹרֵ֣א מִשֵּׂעִ֔יר שֹׁמֵר֙ מַה־מִלַּ֔יְלָה שֹׁמֵ֖ר מַה־מִלֵּֽיל׃Is 21:11
¶The burden of Dumah. One calls to me out of Seir, “Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?”
Is 21:11Is 21:11τὸ ὅραμα τῆς Ιδουμαίας πρὸς ἐμὲ καλεῖ παρὰ τοῦ Σηιρ φυλάσσετε ἐπάλξειςIs 21:11
Call to me out of Seir; guard ye the bulwarks.
Is 21:11
¶The burden of Dumah. One calls to me out of Seir, “Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?”
12Is 21:1212אָמַ֣ר שֹׁמֵ֔ר אָתָ֥ה בֹ֖קֶר וְגַם־לָ֑יְלָה אִם־תִּבְעָי֥וּן בְּעָ֖יוּ שֻׁ֥בוּ אֵתָֽיוּ׃ ס Is 21:12
The watchman said, “The morning comes, and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire. Come back again.”
Is 21:12Is 21:12φυλάσσω τὸ πρωὶ καὶ τὴν νύκτα ἐὰν ζητῇς ζήτει καὶ παρ’ ἐμοὶ οἴκειIs 21:12
I watch in the morning and the night: if thou wouldest enquire, enquire, and dwell by me.
Is 21:12
The watchman said, “The morning comes, and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire. Come back again.”
13Is 21:1313מַשָּׂ֖א בַּעְרָ֑ב בַּיַּ֤עַר בַּעְרַב֙ תָּלִ֔ינוּ אֹֽרְח֖וֹת דְּדָנִֽים׃Is 21:13
¶The burden on Arabia. In the forest in Arabia you will lodge, you caravans of Dedanites.
Is 21:13Is 21:13ἐν τῷ δρυμῷ ἑσπέρας κοιμηθήσῃ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ΔαιδανIs 21:13
Thou mayest lodge in the forest in the evening, or in the way of Daedan.
Is 21:13
¶The burden on Arabia. In the forest in Arabia you will lodge, you caravans of Dedanites.
14Is 21:1414לִקְרַ֥את צָמֵ֖א הֵתָ֣יוּ מָ֑יִם יֹשְׁבֵי֙ אֶ֣רֶץ תֵּימָ֔א בְּלַחְמ֖וֹ קִדְּמ֥וּ נֹדֵֽד׃Is 21:14
They brought water to him who was thirsty. The inhabitants of the land of Tema met the fugitives with their bread.
Is 21:14Is 21:14εἰς συνάντησιν διψῶντι ὕδωρ φέρετε οἱ ἐνοικοῦντες ἐν χώρᾳ Θαιμαν ἄρτοις συναντᾶτε τοῖς φεύγουσινIs 21:14
Ye that dwell in the country of Thaeman, bring water to meet him that is thirsty;
Is 21:14
They brought water to him who was thirsty. The inhabitants of the land of Tema met the fugitives with their bread.
15Is 21:1515כִּֽי־מִפְּנֵ֥י חֲרָב֖וֹת נָדָ֑דוּ מִפְּנֵ֣י ׀ חֶ֣רֶב נְטוּשָׁ֗ה וּמִפְּנֵי֙ קֶ֣שֶׁת דְּרוּכָ֔ה וּמִפְּנֵ֖י כֹּ֥בֶד מִלְחָמָֽה׃ ס Is 21:15
For they fled away from the swords, from the drawn sword, from the bent bow, and from the heat of battle.
Is 21:15Is 21:15διὰ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν φευγόντων καὶ διὰ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν πλανωμένων καὶ διὰ τὸ πλῆθος τῆς μαχαίρας καὶ διὰ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν τοξευμάτων τῶν διατεταμένων καὶ διὰ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν πεπτωκότων ἐν τῷ πολέμῳIs 21:15
meet the fugitives with bread, because of the multitude of the slain, and because of the multitude of them that lose their way, and because of the multitude of swords, and because of the multitude of bent bows, and because of the multitude of them that have fallen in war.
Is 21:15
For they fled away from the swords, from the drawn sword, from the bent bow, and from the heat of battle.
16Is 21:1616כִּי־כֹ֛ה אָמַ֥ר אֲדֹנָ֖י אֵלָ֑י בְּע֤וֹד שָׁנָה֙ כִּשְׁנֵ֣י שָׂכִ֔יר וְכָלָ֖ה כָּל־כְּב֥וֹד קֵדָֽר׃Is 21:16
For the Lord said to me, “Within a year, as a worker bound by contract would count it, all the glory of Kedar will fail,
Is 21:16Is 21:16ὅτι οὕτως εἶπέν μοι κύριος ἔτι ἐνιαυτὸς ὡς ἐνιαυτὸς μισθωτοῦ ἐκλείψει ἡ δόξα τῶν υἱῶν ΚηδαρIs 21:16
For thus said the Lord to me, Yet a year, as the year of an hireling, and the glory of the sons of Kedar shall fail:
Is 21:16
For the Lord said to me, “Within a year, as a worker bound by contract would count it, all the glory of Kedar will fail,
17Is 21:1717וּשְׁאָ֧ר מִסְפַּר־קֶ֛שֶׁת גִּבּוֹרֵ֥י בְנֵֽי־קֵדָ֖ר יִמְעָ֑טוּ כִּ֛י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל דִּבֵּֽר׃ ס Is 21:17
and the residue of the number of the archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, will be few; for Yahweh, the God of Israel, has spoken it.”
Is 21:17Is 21:17καὶ τὸ κατάλοιπον τῶν τοξευμάτων τῶν ἰσχυρῶν υἱῶν Κηδαρ ἔσται ὀλίγον διότι κύριος ἐλάλησεν ὁ θεὸς ΙσραηλIs 21:17
and the remnant of the strong bows of the sons of Kedar shall be small: for the Lord God of Israel has spoken it.
