a Gk. ἑβδομηκοντάκις ἑπτά. The Hebrew reads seventy-seven times. However, ἑβδομηκοντάκις ἑπτά is lit. seventy-times seven (see μυριάκις μύριοι, 10,000 x 10,000, Smyth 347 N., and δίς πέντε, twice five, Smyth 354 d. N.). Seventy-seven times, which is arguably the intended meaning, would properly be either ἑβδομηκοντάκις ἑπτάκις (see εἰκοσάκις ἅπαξ, twenty-one times, Smyth 347) or ἑπτακαιεβδομηκοντάκις.
b See Mt. 18:22.
