¶Yahweh appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.

2Gn 18:22וַיִּשָּׂ֤א עֵינָיו֙ וַיַּ֔רְא וְהִנֵּה֙ שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה אֲנָשִׁ֔ים נִצָּבִ֖ים עָלָ֑יו וַיַּ֗רְא וַיָּ֤רָץ לִקְרָאתָם֙ מִפֶּ֣תַח הָאֹ֔הֶל וַיִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ אָֽרְצָה׃Gn 18:2
He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood opposite him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth,

And he lifted up his eyes and beheld, and lo! three men stood before him; and having seen them he ran to meet them from the door of his tent, and did obeisance to the ground.

3Gn 18:33וַיֹּאמַ֑ר אֲדֹנָ֗י אִם־נָ֨א מָצָ֤אתִי חֵן֙ בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ אַל־נָ֥א תַעֲבֹ֖ר מֵעַ֥ל עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃Gn 18:3
and said, “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don’t go away from your servant.
Gn 18:3Gn 18:3καὶ εἶπεν κύριε εἰ ἄρα εὗρον χάριν ἐναντίον σου μὴ παρέλθῃς τὸν παῖδά σουGn 18:3
And he said, Lord, if indeed I have found grace in thy sight, pass not by thy servant.

and said, “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don’t go away from your servant.
4Gn 18:44יֻקַּֽח־נָ֣א מְעַט־מַ֔יִם וְרַחֲצ֖וּ רַגְלֵיכֶ֑ם וְהִֽשָּׁעֲנ֖וּ תַּ֥חַת הָעֵֽץ׃Gn 18:4
Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
Gn 18:4Gn 18:4λημφθήτω δὴ ὕδωρ καὶ νιψάτωσαν τοὺς πόδας ὑμῶν καὶ καταψύξατε ὑπὸ τὸ δένδρονGn 18:4
Let water now be brought, and let them wash your feet, and do ye refresh yourselves under the tree.

Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
5Gn 18:55וְאֶקְחָ֨ה פַת־לֶ֜חֶם וְסַעֲד֤וּ לִבְּכֶם֙ אַחַ֣ר תַּעֲבֹ֔רוּ כִּֽי־עַל־כֵּ֥ן עֲבַרְתֶּ֖ם עַֽל־עַבְדְּכֶ֑ם וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ כֵּ֥ן תַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּֽרְתָּ׃Gn 18:5
I will get a morsel of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant.”
¶They said, “Very well, do as you have said.”

And I will bring bread, and ye shall eat, and after this ye shall depart on your journey, on account of which refreshment ye have turned aside to your servant. And he said, So do, as thou hast said.

6Gn 18:66וַיְמַהֵ֧ר אַבְרָהָ֛ם הָאֹ֖הֱלָה אֶל־שָׂרָ֑ה וַיֹּ֗אמֶר מַהֲרִ֞י שְׁלֹ֤שׁ סְאִים֙ קֶ֣מַח סֹ֔לֶת ל֖וּשִׁי וַעֲשִׂ֥י עֻגֽוֹת׃Gn 18:6
¶Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Quickly prepare three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes.”

And Abraam hasted to the tent to Sarrha, and said to her, Hasten, and knead three measures of fine flour, and make cakes.

7Gn 18:77וְאֶל־הַבָּקָ֖ר רָ֣ץ אַבְרָהָ֑ם וַיִּקַּ֨ח בֶּן־בָּקָ֜ר רַ֤ךְ וָטוֹב֙ וַיִּתֵּ֣ן אֶל־הַנַּ֔עַר וַיְמַהֵ֖ר לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת אֹתֽוֹ׃Gn 18:7
Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it.

And Abraam ran to the kine, and took a young calf, tender and good, and gave it to his servant, and he hasted to dress it.

8Gn 18:88וַיִּקַּ֨ח חֶמְאָ֜ה וְחָלָ֗ב וּבֶן־הַבָּקָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה וַיִּתֵּ֖ן לִפְנֵיהֶ֑ם וְהֽוּא־עֹמֵ֧ד עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם תַּ֥חַת הָעֵ֖ץ וַיֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃Gn 18:8
He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.

¶They asked him, “Where is Sarah, your wife?”
¶He said, “See, in the tent.”

And he said to him, Where is Sarrha thy wife? And he answered and said, Behold! in the tent.

¶They asked him, “Where is Sarah, your wife?”
¶He said, “See, in the tent.”
10Gn 18:1010וַיֹּ֗אמֶר שׁ֣וֹב אָשׁ֤וּב אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ כָּעֵ֣ת חַיָּ֔ה וְהִנֵּה־בֵ֖ן לְשָׂרָ֣ה אִשְׁתֶּ֑ךָ וְשָׂרָ֥ה שֹׁמַ֛עַת פֶּ֥תַח הָאֹ֖הֶל וְה֥וּא אַחֲרָֽיו׃Gn 18:10
¶He said, “I will certainly return to you when the season comes round. Behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.”
¶Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.
Gn 18:10Gn 18:10εἶπεν δέ ἐπαναστρέφων ἥξω πρὸς σὲ κατὰ τὸν καιρὸν τοῦτον εἰς ὥρας καὶ ἕξει υἱὸν Σαρρα ἡ γυνή σου Σαρρα δὲ ἤκουσεν πρὸς τῇ θύρᾳ τῆς σκηνῆς οὖσα ὄπισθεν αὐτοῦGn 18:10
And he said, I will return and come to thee according to this period seasonably, and Sarrha thy wife shall have a son; and Sarrha heard at the door of the tent, being behind him.

¶He said, “I will certainly return to you when the season comes round. Behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.”
¶Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.
11Gn 18:1111וְאַבְרָהָ֤ם וְשָׂרָה֙ זְקֵנִ֔ים בָּאִ֖ים בַּיָּמִ֑ים חָדַל֙ לִהְי֣וֹת לְשָׂרָ֔ה אֹ֖רַח כַּנָּשִֽׁים׃Gn 18:11
Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.
Gn 18:11Gn 18:11Αβρααμ δὲ καὶ Σαρρα πρεσβύτεροι προβεβηκότες ἡμερῶν ἐξέλιπεν δὲ Σαρρα γίνεσθαι τὰ γυναικεῖαGn 18:11
And Abraam and Sarrha were old, advanced in days, and the custom of women ceased with Sarrha.

Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.
12Gn 18:1212וַתִּצְחַ֥ק שָׂרָ֖ה בְּקִרְבָּ֣הּ לֵאמֹ֑ר אַחֲרֵ֤י בְלֹתִי֙ הָֽיְתָה־לִּ֣י עֶדְנָ֔ה וַֽאדֹנִ֖י זָקֵֽן׃Gn 18:12
Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”
Gn 18:12Gn 18:12ἐγέλασεν δὲ Σαρρα ἐν ἑαυτῇ λέγουσα οὔπω μέν μοι γέγονεν ἕως τοῦ νῦν ὁ δὲ κύριός μου πρεσβύτεροςGn 18:12
And Sarrha laughed in herself, saying, The thing has not as yet happened to me, even until now, and my lord is old.

Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”
13Gn 18:1313וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־אַבְרָהָ֑ם לָ֣מָּה זֶּה֩ צָחֲקָ֨ה שָׂרָ֜ה לֵאמֹ֗ר הַאַ֥ף אֻמְנָ֛ם אֵלֵ֖ד וַאֲנִ֥י זָקַֽנְתִּי׃Gn 18:13
¶Yahweh said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?’
Gn 18:13Gn 18:13καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Αβρααμ τί ὅτι ἐγέλασεν Σαρρα ἐν ἑαυτῇ λέγουσα ἆρά γε ἀληθῶς τέξομαι ἐγὼ δὲ γεγήρακαGn 18:13
And the Lord said to Abraam, Why is it that Sarrha has laughed in herself, saying, Shall I then indeed bear? but I am grown old.

¶Yahweh said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?’
14Gn 18:1414הֲיִפָּלֵ֥א מֵיְהוָ֖ה דָּבָ֑ר לַמּוֹעֵ֞ד אָשׁ֥וּב אֵלֶ֛יךָ כָּעֵ֥ת חַיָּ֖ה וּלְשָׂרָ֥ה בֵֽן׃Gn 18:14
Is anything too hard for Yahweh? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes round, and Sarah will have a son.”
Gn 18:14Gn 18:14μὴ ἀδυνατεῖ παρὰ τῷ θεῷ ῥῆμα εἰς τὸν καιρὸν τοῦτον ἀναστρέψω πρὸς σὲ εἰς ὥρας καὶ ἔσται τῇ Σαρρα υἱόςGn 18:14
Shall anything be impossible with the Lord? At this time I will return to thee seasonably, and Sarrha shall have a son.

15Gn 18:1515וַתְּכַחֵ֨שׁ שָׂרָ֧ה ׀ לֵאמֹ֛ר לֹ֥א צָחַ֖קְתִּי כִּ֣י ׀ יָרֵ֑אָה וַיֹּ֥אמֶר ׀ לֹ֖א כִּ֥י צָחָֽקְתְּ׃Gn 18:15
¶Then Sarah denied, saying, “I didn’t laugh,” for she was afraid.
¶He said, “No, but you did laugh.”
Gn 18:15Gn 18:15ἠρνήσατο δὲ Σαρρα λέγουσα οὐκ ἐγέλασα ἐφοβήθη γάρ καὶ εἶπεν οὐχί ἀλλὰ ἐγέλασαςGn 18:15
But Sarrha denied, saying, I did not laugh, for she was afraid. And he said to her, Nay, but thou didst laugh.

¶Then Sarah denied, saying, “I didn’t laugh,” for she was afraid.
¶He said, “No, but you did laugh.”
16Gn 18:1616וַיָּקֻ֤מוּ מִשָּׁם֙ הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים וַיַּשְׁקִ֖פוּ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י סְדֹ֑ם וְאַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם הֹלֵ֥ךְ עִמָּ֖ם לְשַׁלְּחָֽם׃Gn 18:16
¶The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.
Gn 18:16Gn 18:16ἐξαναστάντες δὲ ἐκεῖθεν οἱ ἄνδρες κατέβλεψαν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον Σοδομων καὶ Γομορρας Αβρααμ δὲ συνεπορεύετο μετ’ αὐτῶν συμπροπέμπων αὐτούςGn 18:16
And the men having risen up from thence looked towards Sodom and Gomorrha. And Abraam went with them, attending them on their journey.

17Gn 18:1717וַֽיהֹוָ֖ה אָמָ֑ר הַֽמְכַסֶּ֤ה אֲנִי֙ מֵֽאַבְרָהָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֖ר אֲנִ֥י עֹשֶֽׂה׃Gn 18:17
Yahweh said, “Will I hide from Abraham what I do,
Gn 18:17Gn 18:17ὁ δὲ κύριος εἶπεν μὴ κρύψω ἐγὼ ἀπὸ Αβρααμ τοῦ παιδός μου ἃ ἐγὼ ποιῶGn 18:17
And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraam my servant what things I intend to do?
Gn 18:17
Yahweh said, “Will I hide from Abraham what I do,
18Gn 18:1818וְאַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם הָי֧וֹ יִֽהְיֶ֛ה לְג֥וֹי גָּד֖וֹל וְעָצ֑וּם וְנִ֨בְרְכוּ ב֔וֹ כֹּ֖ל גּוֹיֵ֥י הָאָֽרֶץ׃Gn 18:18
since Abraham has surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him?
Gn 18:18Gn 18:18Αβρααμ δὲ γινόμενος ἔσται εἰς ἔθνος μέγα καὶ πολύ καὶ ἐνευλογηθήσονται ἐν αὐτῷ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη τῆς γῆςGn 18:18
But Abraam shall become a great and populous nation, and in him shall all the nations of the earth be blest.
Gn 18:18
since Abraham has surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him?
19Gn 18:1919כִּ֣י יְדַעְתִּ֗יו לְמַעַן֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יְצַוֶּ֜ה אֶת־בָּנָ֤יו וְאֶת־בֵּיתוֹ֙ אַחֲרָ֔יו וְשָֽׁמְרוּ֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יְהוָ֔ה לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת צְדָקָ֖ה וּמִשְׁפָּ֑ט לְמַ֗עַן הָבִ֤יא יְהוָה֙ עַל־אַבְרָהָ֔ם אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֖ר עָלָֽיו׃Gn 18:19
For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”
Gn 18:19Gn 18:19ᾔδειν γὰρ ὅτι συντάξει τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ μετ’ αὐτόν καὶ φυλάξουσιν τὰς ὁδοὺς κυρίου ποιεῖν δικαιοσύνην καὶ κρίσιν ὅπως ἂν ἐπαγάγῃ κύριος ἐπὶ Αβρααμ πάντα ὅσα ἐλάλησεν πρὸς αὐτόνGn 18:19
For I know that he will order his sons, and his house after him, and they will keep the ways of the Lord, to do justice and judgment, that the Lord may bring upon Abraam all things whatsoever he has spoken to him.

For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”
20Gn 18:2020וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֔ה זַעֲקַ֛ת סְדֹ֥ם וַעֲמֹרָ֖ה כִּי־רָ֑בָּה וְחַ֨טָּאתָ֔ם כִּ֥י כָבְדָ֖ה מְאֹֽד׃Gn 18:20
Yahweh said, “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous,
Gn 18:20Gn 18:20εἶπεν δὲ κύριος κραυγὴ Σοδομων καὶ Γομορρας πεπλήθυνται καὶ αἱ ἁμαρτίαι αὐτῶν μεγάλαι σφόδραGn 18:20
And the Lord said, The cry of Sodom and Gomorrha has been increased towards me, and their sins are very great.
Gn 18:20Yahweh said, “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous,but The Lord said "the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah has increased and their sins are exceedingly great

21Gn 18:2121אֵֽרֲדָה־נָּ֣א וְאֶרְאֶ֔ה הַכְּצַעֲקָתָ֛הּ הַבָּ֥אָה אֵלַ֖י עָשׂ֣וּ ׀ כָּלָ֑ה וְאִם־לֹ֖א אֵדָֽעָה׃Gn 18:21
I will go down now, and see whether their deeds are as bad as the reports which have come to me. If not, I will know.”
Gn 18:21Gn 18:21καταβὰς οὖν ὄψομαι εἰ κατὰ τὴν κραυγὴν αὐτῶν τὴν ἐρχομένην πρός με συντελοῦνται εἰ δὲ μή ἵνα γνῶGn 18:21
I will therefore go down and see, if they completely correspond with the cry which comes to me, and if not, that I may know.

I will go down now, and see whether their deeds are as bad as the reports which have come to me. If not, I will know.”
22Gn 18:2222וַיִּפְנ֤וּ מִשָּׁם֙ הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ סְדֹ֑מָה וְאַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם עוֹדֶ֥נּוּ עֹמֵ֖ד לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃Gn 18:22
¶The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before Yahweh.
Gn 18:22Gn 18:22καὶ ἀποστρέψαντες ἐκεῖθεν οἱ ἄνδρες ἦλθον εἰς Σοδομα Αβρααμ δὲ ἦν ἑστηκὼς ἐναντίον κυρίουGn 18:22
And the men having departed thence, came to Sodom; and Abraam was still standing before the Lord.

Abraham drew near, and said, “Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?
Gn 18:23Gn 18:23καὶ ἐγγίσας Αβρααμ εἶπεν μὴ συναπολέσῃς δίκαιον μετὰ ἀσεβοῦς καὶ ἔσται ὁ δίκαιος ὡς ὁ ἀσεβήςGn 18:23
And Abraam drew nigh and said, Wouldest thou destroy the righteous with the wicked, and shall the righteous be as the wicked?
Gn 18:23Abraham drew near, andupon approaching said, “Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?You won't destroy the righteous with the ungodly so it would be for the righteous as the ungodly;

24Gn 18:2424אוּלַ֥י יֵ֛שׁ חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים צַדִּיקִ֖ם בְּת֣וֹךְ הָעִ֑יר הַאַ֤ף תִּסְפֶּה֙ וְלֹא־תִשָּׂ֣א לַמָּק֔וֹם לְמַ֛עַן חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים הַצַּדִּיקִ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּקִרְבָּֽהּ׃Gn 18:24
What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it?
Gn 18:24Gn 18:24ἐὰν ὦσιν πεντήκοντα δίκαιοι ἐν τῇ πόλει ἀπολεῖς αὐτούς οὐκ ἀνήσεις πάντα τὸν τόπον ἕνεκεν τῶν πεντήκοντα δικαίων ἐὰν ὦσιν ἐν αὐτῇGn 18:24
Should there be fifty righteous in the city, wilt thou destroy them? wilt thou not spare the whole place for the sake of the fifty righteous, if they be in it?
Gn 18:24What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it?so what if there were fifty righteous in the city, would you destroy them? Would you not spare all of the place for the cause of the fifty righteous that might be in her?

25Gn 18:2525חָלִ֨לָה לְּךָ֜ מֵעֲשֹׂ֣ת ׀ כַּדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֗ה לְהָמִ֤ית צַדִּיק֙ עִם־רָשָׁ֔ע וְהָיָ֥ה כַצַּדִּ֖יק כָּרָשָׁ֑ע חָלִ֣לָה לָּ֔ךְ הֲשֹׁפֵט֙ כָּל־הָאָ֔רֶץ לֹ֥א יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה מִשְׁפָּֽט׃Gn 18:25
Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the earth do right?”
Gn 18:25Gn 18:25μηδαμῶς σὺ ποιήσεις ὡς τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο τοῦ ἀποκτεῖναι δίκαιον μετὰ ἀσεβοῦς καὶ ἔσται ὁ δίκαιος ὡς ὁ ἀσεβής μηδαμῶς ὁ κρίνων πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν οὐ ποιήσεις κρίσινGn 18:25
By no means shalt thou do as this thing is so as to destroy the righteous with the wicked, so the righteous shall be as the wicked: by no means. Thou that judgest the whole earth, shalt thou not do right?
Gn 18:25Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the earth do right?”You certainly would never make a declaration like that to condemn the righteous with the ungodly, so that it would be for the righteous as the ungodly. Certainly the Judge of all the earth would not make such a judgment."

And the Lord said, If there should be in Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole city, and the whole place for their sakes.
Gn 18:26¶Yahweh said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake.”The Lord said "If I should find fifty righteoues in the city. I will forgive all the place for them."

But if the fifty righteous should be diminished to forty-five, wilt thou destroy the whole city because of the five wanting? And he said, I will not destroy it, if I should find there forty-five.
Gn 18:28What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?”¶He said, “I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there.”but what if there should be five fewer than fifty righteous? Would you destroy all the city for the reason of the five"
¶and He said "I definitely would NOT destroy if I should find forty-five there."

And he continued to speak to him still, and said, But if there should be found there forty? And he said, I will not destroy it for the forty's sake.
Gn 18:29He spoke to him yet again, and said, “What if there are forty found there?”¶He said, “I will not do it for the forty’s sake.”and still he continued to speak toward Him and said "but what if there should only be found there forty?
¶ and HE said "I will definitely NOT destroy for the cause of the forty."

And he said, Will there be anything against me, Lord, if I shall speak? but if there be found there thirty? And he said, I will not destroy it for the thirty's sake.
Gn 18:30¶He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?”¶He said, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.”"oh Lord I am nobody that I should speak but what if there should only be found thirty?"
¶and HE said "I will definitely not destroy even if I should find thirty there".

And he said, Since I am able to speak to the Lord, what if there should be found there twenty? And he said, I will not destroy it, if I should find there twenty.
Gn 18:31¶He said, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?”¶He said, “I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.”and he said "well, since I get to speak to The Lord... what if there should be found twenty there?"

¶Yahweh went his way, as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

And the Lord departed, when he left off speaking to Abraam, and Abraam returned to his place.
Gn 18:33¶Yahweh went his way, as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.So The Lord departed as He ceased speaking to Abraham and Abraham turned away into his place.
