And after this went in Moses and Aaron to Pharao, and they said to him, These things says the Lord God of Israel, Send my people away, that they may keep a feast to me in the wilderness.
Ex 5:1¶Afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said to Pharaoh, “This is
what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Let my people go, that they may
hold a feast to me in the wilderness.’”and after
these, entered Moses and Aaron toward Pharaoh and said to him "Thus said
The Lord God of Israel, 'send forth my people in order that they should
celebrate a holiday to me in the desert'"
And Pharao said, Who is he that I should hearken to his voice, so that I should send away the children of Israel? I do not know the Lord, and I will not let Israel go.
Ex 5:2¶Pharaoh said, “Who is Yahweh, that I should listen to his voice to
let Israel go? I don’t know Yahweh, and moreover I will not let Israel go.”and
Pharaoh said "Who is he? From where will I hear his voice so as to send
forth the sons of Israel? I don't know The Lord and I am not sending forth
And they say to him, The God of the Hebrews has called us to him: we will go therefore a three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God, lest at any time death or slaughter happen to us.
Ex 5:3¶They said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us.
Please let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to
Yahweh, our God, lest he fall on us with pestilence, or with the sword.”has
summoned us consequenty we will travel the way for three days into the
desert so that we should sacrifice to our God, lest death or murder should
And Pharao said, Behold now, the people is very numerous; let us not then give them rest from their work.
Ex 5:5Pharaoh said, “Behold, the people of the land are now many, and you
make them rest from their burdens.”and Pharaoh said
"Behold now, the people are very numerous, therefore we won't stop them
from their works"
Ye shall no longer give straw to the people for brick-making as yesterday and the third day; but let them go themselves, and collect straw for themselves.
Ex 5:7“You shall no longer give the people straw to make brick, as before.
Let them go and gather straw for themselves."Chaff will no
longer be added to be given to the people in brick-making as yesterday and
the third day, let them journey and gather chaff for themselves
And thou shalt impose on them daily the rate of brick-making which they perform: thou shalt not abate anything, for they are idle; therefore have they cried, saying, Let us arise and do sacrifice to our God.
Ex 5:8The number of the bricks, which they made before, you require from
them. You shall not diminish anything of it, for they are idle; therefore
they cry, saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’ ¶and
from the number of bricks they are to each individually produce you will
not take away even one, for they are leisuring and that's why they have
cried out saying 'we should journey and sacrifice to our GOD'
Let the works of these men be made grievous, and let them care for these things, and not care for vain words.
Ex 5:9Let heavier work be laid on the men, that they may labor therein; and
don’t let them pay any attention to lying words.”Weigh
down the men's works of these and let them worry about this and not worry
about empty wordsª"
And the taskmasters and the accountants hastened them, and they spoke to the people, saying, thus says Pharao, I will give you straw no longer.
Ex 5:10¶The taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they
spoke to the people, saying, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I will not give
you straw.So the taskmasters and the scribes pressed them
telling the people, while saying "Thus says Pharaoh, 'I am no longer
giving you chaff
Go ye, yourselves, get for yourselves straw whencesoever ye can find it, for nothing is diminished from your rate.
Ex 5:11Go yourselves, get straw where you can find it, for nothing of your
work shall be diminished.’” You are to travel to
wherever you can gather chaff for yourselves for nothing shall be taken
away from your quota"
and the taskmasters hastened them, saying, Fulfil your regular daily tasks, even as when straw was given you.
Ex 5:13The taskmasters were urgent saying, “Fulfill your work quota daily,
as when there was straw!”So the taskmasters urged them
saying "Finish the work today according to your quota when chaff was given
The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, “Why haven’t you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?”
And the accountants of the race of the children of Israel, who were set over them by the masters of Pharao, were scourged, and questioned, men saying, Why have ye not fulfilled your rates of brick-work as yesterday and the third day, to-day also?
Ex 5:14The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters
had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, “Why haven’t you fulfilled
your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?”and
the scribes appointed over the the race of the sons of Israel were
scourged by their masters of the Pharaoh saying "why have you not
completed your quota of bricks like yesterday and the third day and today?"
Now then go and work, for straw shall not be given to you, yet ye shall return the rate of bricks.
Ex 5:18Go therefore now, and work, for no straw shall be given to you, yet
you shall deliver the same number of bricks!”Now
therefore go travel and strive for the chaff not be given to you. Produce
your quota of bricks!"
and they said to them, “May Yahweh look at you, and judge, because you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.”
And they said to them, The Lord look upon you and judge you, for ye have made our savour abominable before Pharao, and before his servants, to put a sword into his hands to slay us.
Ex 5:21and they said to them, “May Yahweh look at you, and judge, because
you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in
the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.”and
they said to them "may God behold and judge that you abhorred the odor of
us in front of Pharaoh and in front of his attendants, to give him a
sword into his hands to kill us!"
And Moses turned to the Lord, and said, I pray, Lord, why hast thou afflicted this people? and wherefore hast thou sent me?
Ex 5:22¶Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Lord, why have you brought
trouble on this people? Why is it that you have sent me?So
Moses turned around toward The Lord and said "Lord, why have you afflicted
this people and for what did you send me?
For from the time that I went to Pharao to speak in thy name, he has afflicted this people, and thou hast not delivered thy people.
Ex 5:23For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought
trouble on this people; neither have you delivered your people at all.”and
since I traveled to Pharaoh to speak by your name, he has badly affected
this people and you have not delivered your people!"
