2Am 8:22וַיֹּ֗אמֶר מָֽה־אַתָּ֤ה רֹאֶה֙ עָמ֔וֹס וָאֹמַ֖ר כְּל֣וּב קָ֑יִץ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י בָּ֤א הַקֵּץ֙ אֶל־עַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לֹא־אוֹסִ֥יף ע֖וֹד עֲב֥וֹר לֽוֹ׃Am 8:2
¶He said, “Amos, what do you see?”
¶I said, “A basket of summer fruit.”
¶Then Yahweh said to me,
“The end has come on my people Israel.
I will not again pass by them any more.
Am 8:2Am 8:2καὶ εἶπεν τί σὺ βλέπεις Αμως καὶ εἶπα ἄγγος ἰξευτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρός με ἥκει τὸ πέρας ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν μου Ισραηλ οὐκέτι μὴ προσθῶ τοῦ παρελθεῖν αὐτόνAm 8:2
And he said, What seest thou, Amos? And I said, A fowler's basket. And the Lord said to me, The end is come upon my people Israel; I will not pass by them any more.

¶He said, “Amos, what do you see?”
¶I said, “A basket of summer fruit.”

“The end has come on my people Israel.

3Am 8:33וְהֵילִ֜ילוּ שִׁיר֤וֹת הֵיכָל֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה רַ֣ב הַפֶּ֔גֶר בְּכָל־מָק֖וֹם הִשְׁלִ֥יךְ הָֽס׃ פ Am 8:3
The songs of the temple will be wailings in that day,” says the Lord Yahweh.
“The dead bodies will be many. In every place they will throw them out with silence.
Am 8:3Am 8:3καὶ ὀλολύξει τὰ φατνώματα τοῦ ναοῦ ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ λέγει κύριος πολὺς ὁ πεπτωκὼς ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ ἐπιρρίψω σιωπήνAm 8:3
And the ceilings of the temple shall howl in that day, saith the Lord God: there shall be many a fallen one in every place; I will bring silence upon them.
Am 8:3

Am 8:4
Hear this, you who desire to swallow up the needy,
and cause the poor of the land to fail,
Am 8:4Am 8:4ἀκούσατε δὴ ταῦτα οἱ ἐκτρίβοντες εἰς τὸ πρωὶ πένητα καὶ καταδυναστεύοντες πτωχοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς γῆςAm 8:4
Hear now this, ye that oppress the poor in the morning, and drive the needy ones by tyranny from the earth,
Am 8:4
Hear this, you who desire to swallow up the needy,
and cause the poor of the land to fail,
5Am 8:55לֵאמֹ֗ר מָתַ֞י יַעֲבֹ֤ר הַחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ וְנַשְׁבִּ֣ירָה שֶּׁ֔בֶר וְהַשַּׁבָּ֖ת וְנִפְתְּחָה־בָּ֑ר לְהַקְטִ֤ין אֵיפָה֙ וּלְהַגְדִּ֣יל שֶׁ֔קֶל וּלְעַוֵּ֖ת מֹאזְנֵ֥י מִרְמָֽה׃Am 8:5
Saying, ‘When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain?
And the Sabbath, that we may market wheat,
making the ephah small, and the shekel large,
and dealing falsely with balances of deceit;
Am 8:5Am 8:5οἱ λέγοντες πότε διελεύσεται ὁ μὴν καὶ ἐμπολήσομεν καὶ τὰ σάββατα καὶ ἀνοίξομεν θησαυροὺς τοῦ ποιῆσαι μικρὸν μέτρον καὶ τοῦ μεγαλῦναι στάθμια καὶ ποιῆσαι ζυγὸν ἄδικονAm 8:5
saying, When will the month pass away, and we shall sell, and the sabbath, and we shall open the treasure, to make the measure small, and to enlarge the weight, and make the balance unfair?

Saying, ‘When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain?

6Am 8:66לִקְנ֤וֹת בַּכֶּ֙סֶף֙ דַּלִּ֔ים וְאֶבְי֖וֹן בַּעֲב֣וּר נַעֲלָ֑יִם וּמַפַּ֥ל בַּ֖ר נַשְׁבִּֽיר׃Am 8:6
that we may buy the poor for silver,
and the needy for a pair of shoes,
and sell the sweepings with the wheat?’”
Am 8:6Am 8:6τοῦ κτᾶσθαι ἐν ἀργυρίῳ πτωχοὺς καὶ ταπεινὸν ἀντὶ ὑποδημάτων καὶ ἀπὸ παντὸς γενήματος ἐμπορευσόμεθαAm 8:6
That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for shoes; and we will trade in every kind of fruit.
Am 8:6
that we may buy the poor for silver,

7Am 8:77נִשְׁבַּ֥ע יְהוָ֖ה בִּגְא֣וֹן יַעֲקֹ֑ב אִם־אֶשְׁכַּ֥ח לָנֶ֖צַח כָּל־מַעֲשֵׂיהֶֽם׃Am 8:7
Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob,
“Surely I will never forget any of their works.
Am 8:7Am 8:7ὀμνύει κύριος καθ’ ὑπερηφανίας Ιακωβ εἰ ἐπιλησθήσεται εἰς νεῖκος πάντα τὰ ἔργα ὑμῶνAm 8:7
The Lord swears against the pride of Jacob, None of your works shall ever be forgotten.
Am 8:7
Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob,
“Surely I will never forget any of their works.
8Am 8:88הַ֤עַל זֹאת֙ לֹֽא־תִרְגַּ֣ז הָאָ֔רֶץ וְאָבַ֖ל כָּל־יוֹשֵׁ֣ב בָּ֑הּ וְעָלְתָ֤ה כָאֹר֙ כֻּלָּ֔הּ וְנִגְרְשָׁ֥ה ‏{ ונשקה וְנִשְׁקְעָ֖ה }‏ כִּיא֥וֹר מִצְרָֽיִם׃ ס

Am 8:8
Won’t the land tremble for this,
and everyone mourn who dwells in it?
Yes, it will rise up wholly like the River;
and it will be stirred up and sink again, like the River of Egypt.
Am 8:8Am 8:8καὶ ἐπὶ τούτοις οὐ ταραχθήσεται ἡ γῆ καὶ πενθήσει πᾶς ὁ κατοικῶν ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ ἀναβήσεται ὡς ποταμὸς συντέλεια καὶ καταβήσεται ὡς ποταμὸς ΑἰγύπτουAm 8:8
And shall not the land be troubled for these things, and shall not every one who dwells in it mourn? whereas destruction shall come up as a river, and shall descend as the river of Egypt.
Am 8:8
Won’t the land tremble for this,
and everyone mourn grieve who dwells in it?
Yes, it will rise up wholly like the River;
and it will be stirred up and sink again, like the River of Egypt.

And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that the sun shall go down at noon, and the light shall be darkened on the earth by day:

It will happen in that day,” says the Lord Yahweh,
“that I will cause the sun to go down at noon,
and I will darken the earth in the clear day.
10Am 8:1010וְהָפַכְתִּ֨י חַגֵּיכֶ֜ם לְאֵ֗בֶל וְכָל־שִֽׁירֵיכֶם֙ לְקִינָ֔ה וְהַעֲלֵיתִ֤י עַל־כָּל־מָתְנַ֙יִם֙ שָׂ֔ק וְעַל־כָּל־רֹ֖אשׁ קָרְחָ֑ה וְשַׂמְתִּ֙יהָ֙ כְּאֵ֣בֶל יָחִ֔יד וְאַחֲרִיתָ֖הּ כְּי֥וֹם מָֽר׃Am 8:10
I will turn your feasts into mourning,
and all your songs into lamentation;
and I will make you wear sackcloth on all your bodies,
and baldness on every head.
I will make it like the mourning for an only son,
and its end like a bitter day.
Am 8:10Am 8:10καὶ μεταστρέψω τὰς ἑορτὰς ὑμῶν εἰς πένθος καὶ πάσας τὰς ᾠδὰς ὑμῶν εἰς θρῆνον καὶ ἀναβιβῶ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν ὀσφὺν σάκκον καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν κεφαλὴν φαλάκρωμα καὶ θήσομαι αὐτὸν ὡς πένθος ἀγαπητοῦ καὶ τοὺς μετ’ αὐτοῦ ὡς ἡμέραν ὀδύνηςAm 8:10

Behold, the days come,” says the Lord Yahweh,
“that I will send a famine in the land,
not a famine of bread,
nor a thirst for water,
but of hearing the words of Yahweh.
Am 8:11Am 8:11ἰδοὺ ἡμέραι ἔρχονται λέγει κύριος καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ λιμὸν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν οὐ λιμὸν ἄρτου οὐδὲ δίψαν ὕδατος ἀλλὰ λιμὸν τοῦ ἀκοῦσαι λόγον κυρίουAm 8:11
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will send forth a famine on the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the word of the Lord.

12Am 8:1212וְנָעוּ֙ מִיָּ֣ם עַד־יָ֔ם וּמִצָּפ֖וֹן וְעַד־מִזְרָ֑ח יְשֽׁוֹטְט֛וּ לְבַקֵּ֥שׁ אֶת־דְּבַר־יְהוָ֖ה וְלֹ֥א יִמְצָֽאוּ׃Am 8:12
They will wander from sea to sea,
and from the north even to the east;
they will run back and forth to seek the word of Yahweh,
and will not find it.
Am 8:12Am 8:12καὶ σαλευθήσονται ὕδατα ἕως θαλάσσης καὶ ἀπὸ βορρᾶ ἕως ἀνατολῶν περιδραμοῦνται ζητοῦντες τὸν λόγον κυρίου καὶ οὐ μὴ εὕρωσινAm 8:12
And the waters shall be troubled from sea to sea, and from the north to the east shall men run hither and thither, seeking the word of the Lord, and they shall not find it.

In that day the beautiful virgins
and the young men will faint for thirst.

14Am 8:1414הַנִּשְׁבָּעִים֙ בְּאַשְׁמַ֣ת שֹֽׁמְר֔וֹן וְאָמְר֗וּ חֵ֤י אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ דָּ֔ן וְחֵ֖י דֶּ֣רֶךְ בְּאֵֽר־שָׁ֑בַע וְנָפְל֖וּ וְלֹא־יָק֥וּמוּ עֽוֹד׃ ס Am 8:14
Those who swear by the sin of Samaria,
and say, ‘As your god, Dan, lives;’
and, ‘As the way of Beersheba lives;’
they will fall, and never rise up again.”

they who swear by the propitiation of Samaria, and who say, Thy god, O Dan, lives; and, Thy god, O Bersabee, lives; and they shall fall, and shall no more rise again.
