¶It happened after this, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them some of the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

And after this came the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them some of the Minaeans, against Josaphat to battle.

¶It happened after this, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them some of the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
22Chr 20:22וַיָּבֹ֗אוּ וַיַּגִּ֤ידוּ לִֽיהוֹשָׁפָט֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר בָּ֣א עָלֶ֜יךָ הָמ֥וֹן רָ֛ב מֵעֵ֥בֶר לַיָּ֖ם מֵאֲרָ֑ם וְהִנָּם֙ בְּחַֽצְצ֣וֹן תָּמָ֔ר הִ֖יא עֵ֥ין גֶּֽדִי׃2Chr 20:2
Then some came who told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea from Syria. Behold, they are in Hazazon Tamar” (that is, En Gedi).
2Chr 20:22Chr 20:2καὶ ἦλθον καὶ ὑπέδειξαν τῷ Ιωσαφατ λέγοντες ἥκει ἐπὶ σὲ πλῆθος πολὺ ἐκ πέραν τῆς θαλάσσης ἀπὸ Συρίας καὶ ἰδού εἰσιν ἐν Ασασανθαμαρ αὕτη ἐστὶν Ενγαδδι2Chr 20:2
And they came and told Josaphat, saying, There is come against thee a great multitude from Syria, from beyond the sea; and, behold, they are in Asasan Thamar, this is Engadi.

32Chr 20:33וַיִּרָ֕א וַיִּתֵּ֧ן יְהוֹשָׁפָ֛ט אֶת־פָּנָ֖יו לִדְר֣וֹשׁ לַיהוָ֑ה וַיִּקְרָא־צ֖וֹם עַל־כָּל־יְהוּדָֽה׃2Chr 20:3
Jehoshaphat was alarmed, and set himself to seek to Yahweh. He proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
2Chr 20:32Chr 20:3καὶ ἐφοβήθη καὶ ἔδωκεν Ιωσαφατ τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐκζητῆσαι τὸν κύριον καὶ ἐκήρυξεν νηστείαν ἐν παντὶ Ιουδα2Chr 20:3
And Josaphat was alarmed, and set his face to seek the Lord earnestly, and he proclaimed a fast in all Juda.

42Chr 20:44וַיִּקָּבְצ֣וּ יְהוּדָ֔ה לְבַקֵּ֖שׁ מֵֽיְהוָ֑ה גַּ֚ם מִכָּל־עָרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה בָּ֖אוּ לְבַקֵּ֥שׁ אֶת־יְהוָֽה׃2Chr 20:4
Judah gathered themselves together, to seek help from Yahweh. They came out of all the cities of Judah to seek Yahweh.
2Chr 20:42Chr 20:4καὶ συνήχθη Ιουδας ἐκζητῆσαι τὸν κύριον καὶ ἀπὸ πασῶν τῶν πόλεων Ιουδα ἦλθον ζητῆσαι τὸν κύριον2Chr 20:4
And Juda gathered themselves together to seek after the Lord: even from all the cities of Juda they came to seek the Lord.

52Chr 20:55וַיַּעֲמֹ֣ד יְהוֹשָׁפָ֗ט בִּקְהַ֧ל יְהוּדָ֛ה וִירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם בְּבֵ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה לִפְנֵ֖י הֶחָצֵ֥ר הַחֲדָשָֽׁה׃2Chr 20:5
Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Yahweh, before the new court;

And Josaphat stood up in the assembly of Juda in Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, in front of the new court.

62Chr 20:66וַיֹּאמַ֗ר יְהוָ֞ה אֱלֹהֵ֤י אֲבֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙ הֲלֹ֨א אַתָּֽה־ה֤וּא אֱלֹהִים֙ בַּשָּׁמַ֔יִם וְאַתָּ֣ה מוֹשֵׁ֔ל בְּכֹ֖ל מַמְלְכ֣וֹת הַגּוֹיִ֑ם וּבְיָדְךָ֙ כֹּ֣חַ וּגְבוּרָ֔ה וְאֵ֥ין עִמְּךָ֖ לְהִתְיַצֵּֽב׃2Chr 20:6
and he said, “Yahweh, the God of our fathers, aren’t you God in heaven? Aren’t you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you.
2Chr 20:62Chr 20:6καὶ εἶπεν κύριε ὁ θεὸς τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν οὐχὶ σὺ εἶ θεὸς ἐν οὐρανῷ καὶ σὺ κυριεύεις πασῶν τῶν βασιλειῶν τῶν ἐθνῶν καὶ ἐν τῇ χειρί σου ἰσχὺς δυναστείας καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν πρὸς σὲ ἀντιστῆναι2Chr 20:6
And he said, O Lord God of my fathers, art not thou God in heaven above, and art not thou Lord of all the kingdoms of the nations? and is there not in thy hand the might of dominion, and there is no one who can resist thee?

and he said, “Yahweh, the God of our fathers, aren’t you God in heaven? Aren’t you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you.
72Chr 20:77הֲלֹ֣א ׀ אַתָּ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ הוֹרַ֙שְׁתָּ֙ אֶת־יֹשְׁבֵי֙ הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את מִלִּפְנֵ֖י עַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽתִּתְּנָ֗הּ לְזֶ֛רַע אַבְרָהָ֥ם אֹֽהַבְךָ֖ לְעוֹלָֽם׃2Chr 20:7
Didn’t you, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it to the seed of Abraham your friend forever?
2Chr 20:72Chr 20:7οὐχὶ σὺ εἶ ὁ κύριος ὁ ἐξολεθρεύσας τοὺς κατοικοῦντας τὴν γῆν ταύτην ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ λαοῦ σου Ισραηλ καὶ ἔδωκας αὐτὴν σπέρματι Αβρααμ τῷ ἠγαπημένῳ σου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα2Chr 20:7
Art not thou the Lord that didst destroy the inhabitants of this land before the face of thy people Israel, and didst give it to thy beloved seed of Abraham for ever?

Didn’t you, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it to the seed of Abraham your friend forever?
82Chr 20:88וַיֵּשְׁב֖וּ־בָ֑הּ וַיִּבְנ֨וּ לְךָ֧ ׀ בָּ֛הּ מִקְדָּ֖שׁ לְשִׁמְךָ֥ לֵאמֹֽר׃2Chr 20:8
They lived in it, and have built you a sanctuary in it for your name, saying,
2Chr 20:82Chr 20:8καὶ κατῴκησαν ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν ἐν αὐτῇ ἁγίασμα τῷ ὀνόματί σου λέγοντες2Chr 20:8
And they dwelt in it, and built in it a sanctuary to thy name, saying,

92Chr 20:99אִם־תָּב֨וֹא עָלֵ֜ינוּ רָעָ֗ה חֶרֶב֮ שְׁפוֹט֮ וְדֶ֣בֶר וְרָעָב֒ נַֽעַמְדָ֞ה לִפְנֵ֨י הַבַּ֤יִת הַזֶּה֙ וּלְפָנֶ֔יךָ כִּ֥י שִׁמְךָ֖ בַּבַּ֣יִת הַזֶּ֑ה וְנִזְעַ֥ק אֵלֶ֛יךָ מִצָּרָתֵ֖נוּ וְתִשְׁמַ֥ע וְתוֹשִֽׁיעַ׃2Chr 20:9
‘If evil comes on us—the sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this house, and before you, (for your name is in this house), and cry to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’
2Chr 20:92Chr 20:9ἐὰν ἐπέλθῃ ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς κακά ῥομφαία κρίσις θάνατος λιμός στησόμεθα ἐναντίον τοῦ οἴκου τούτου καὶ ἐναντίον σου ὅτι τὸ ὄνομά σου ἐπὶ τῷ οἴκῳ τούτῳ καὶ βοησόμεθα πρὸς σὲ ἀπὸ τῆς θλίψεως καὶ ἀκούσῃ καὶ σώσεις2Chr 20:9
If there should come upon us evils, sword, judgment, pestilence, famine, we will stand before this house, and before thee, (for thy name is upon this house,)and we will cry to thee because of the affliction, and thou shalt hear, and deliver.

102Chr 20:1010וְעַתָּ֡ה הִנֵּה֩ בְנֵֽי־עַמּ֨וֹן וּמוֹאָ֜ב וְהַר־שֵׂעִ֗יר אֲ֠שֶׁר לֹֽא־נָתַ֤תָּה לְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לָב֣וֹא בָהֶ֔ם בְּבֹאָ֖ם מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם כִּ֛י סָ֥רוּ מֵעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם וְלֹ֥א הִשְׁמִידֽוּם׃2Chr 20:10
Now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned aside from them, and didn’t destroy them;

And now, behold, the children of Ammon, and Moab, and mount Seir, with regard to whom thou didst not permit Israel to pass through their border, when they had come out of the land of Egypt, (for they turned away from them, and did not destroy them;)—

112Chr 20:1111וְהִ֨נֵּה־הֵ֔ם גֹּמְלִ֖ים עָלֵ֑ינוּ לָבוֹא֙ לְגָ֣רְשֵׁ֔נוּ מִיְּרֻשָּׁתְךָ֖ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֽוֹרַשְׁתָּֽנוּ׃2Chr 20:11
behold, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit.

yet now, behold, they make attempts against us, to come forth to cast us out from our inheritance which thou gavest us.

122Chr 20:1212אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ הֲלֹ֣א תִשְׁפָּט־בָּ֔ם כִּ֣י אֵ֥ין בָּ֙נוּ֙ כֹּ֔חַ לִ֠פְנֵי הֶהָמ֥וֹן הָרָ֛ב הַזֶּ֖ה הַבָּ֣א עָלֵ֑ינוּ וַאֲנַ֗חְנוּ לֹ֤א נֵדַע֙ מַֽה־נַּעֲשֶׂ֔ה כִּ֥י עָלֶ֖יךָ עֵינֵֽינוּ׃2Chr 20:12
Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
2Chr 20:122Chr 20:12κύριε ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν οὐ κρινεῖς ἐν αὐτοῖς ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἡμῖν ἰσχὺς τοῦ ἀντιστῆναι πρὸς τὸ πλῆθος τὸ πολὺ τοῦτο τὸ ἐλθὸν ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς καὶ οὐκ οἴδαμεν τί ποιήσωμεν αὐτοῖς ἀλλ’ ἢ ἐπὶ σοὶ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ ἡμῶν2Chr 20:12
O Lord our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no strength to resist this great multitude that is come against us; and we know not what we shall do to them: but our eyes are toward thee.

Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
132Chr 20:1313וְכָ֨ל־יְהוּדָ֔ה עֹמְדִ֖ים לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה גַּם־טַפָּ֖ם נְשֵׁיהֶ֥ם וּבְנֵיהֶֽם׃ פ 2Chr 20:13
¶All Judah stood before Yahweh, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

Then the Spirit of Yahweh came on Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly;
2Chr 20:142Chr 20:14καὶ τῷ Οζιηλ τῷ τοῦ Ζαχαριου τῶν υἱῶν Βαναιου τῶν υἱῶν Ελεηλ τοῦ Μανθανιου τοῦ Λευίτου ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Ασαφ ἐγένετο ἐπ’ αὐτὸν πνεῦμα κυρίου ἐν τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ2Chr 20:14
And Oziel the son of Zacharias, of the children of Banaias, of the sons of Eleiel, the sons of Matthanias the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, —upon him came the Spirit of the Lord in the assembly:

152Chr 20:1515וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הַקְשִׁ֤יבוּ כָל־יְהוּדָה֙ וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם וְהַמֶּ֖לֶךְ יְהוֹשָׁפָ֑ט כֹּֽה־אָמַ֨ר יְהוָ֜ה לָכֶ֗ם אַ֠תֶּם אַל־תִּֽירְא֤וּ וְאַל־תֵּחַ֙תּוּ֙ מִפְּנֵ֨י הֶהָמ֤וֹן הָרָב֙ הַזֶּ֔ה כִּ֣י לֹ֥א לָכֶ֛ם הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה כִּ֥י לֵאלֹהִֽים׃2Chr 20:15
and he said, “Listen, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you king Jehoshaphat. Thus says Yahweh to you, ‘Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
2Chr 20:152Chr 20:15καὶ εἶπεν ἀκούσατε πᾶς Ιουδα καὶ οἱ κατοικοῦντες Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Ιωσαφατ τάδε λέγει κύριος ὑμῖν αὐτοῖς μὴ φοβεῖσθε μηδὲ πτοηθῆτε ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ ὄχλου τοῦ πολλοῦ τούτου ὅτι οὐχ ὑμῖν ἐστιν ἡ παράταξις ἀλλ’ ἢ τῷ θεῷ2Chr 20:15
and he said, Hear ye, all Juda, and the dwellers in Jerusalem, and king Josaphat: Thus saith the Lord to you, even you, Fear not, neither be alarmed, before all this great multitude; for the battle is not years, but God's.

and he said, “Listen, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you king Jehoshaphat. Thus says Yahweh to you, ‘Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
162Chr 20:1616מָחָר֙ רְד֣וּ עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם הִנָּ֥ם עֹלִ֖ים בְּמַעֲלֵ֣ה הַצִּ֑יץ וּמְצָאתֶ֤ם אֹתָם֙ בְּס֣וֹף הַנַּ֔חַל פְּנֵ֖י מִדְבַּ֥ר יְרוּאֵֽל׃2Chr 20:16
Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz. You shall find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
2Chr 20:162Chr 20:16αὔριον κατάβητε ἐπ’ αὐτούς ἰδοὺ ἀναβαίνουσιν κατὰ τὴν ἀνάβασιν Ασας καὶ εὑρήσετε αὐτοὺς ἐπ’ ἄκρου ποταμοῦ τῆς ἐρήμου Ιεριηλ2Chr 20:16
To-morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the ascent of Assis, and ye shall find them at the extremity of the river of the wilderness of Jeriel.

Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz. You shall find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
172Chr 20:1717לֹ֥א לָכֶ֖ם לְהִלָּחֵ֣ם בָּזֹ֑את הִתְיַצְּב֣וּ עִמְד֡וּ וּרְא֣וּ אֶת־יְשׁוּעַת֩ יְהוָ֨ה עִמָּכֶ֜ם יְהוּדָ֣ה וִֽירוּשָׁלִַ֗ם אַל־תִּֽירְאוּ֙ וְאַל־תֵּחַ֔תּוּ מָחָר֙ צְא֣וּ לִפְנֵיהֶ֔ם וַיהוָ֖ה עִמָּכֶֽם׃2Chr 20:17
You will not need to fight this battle. Set yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Go out against them tomorrow, for Yahweh is with you.’”
2Chr 20:172Chr 20:17οὐχ ὑμῖν ἐστιν πολεμῆσαι ταῦτα σύνετε καὶ ἴδετε τὴν σωτηρίαν κυρίου μεθ’ ὑμῶν Ιουδα καὶ Ιερουσαλημ μὴ φοβεῖσθε μηδὲ πτοηθῆτε αὔριον ἐξελθεῖν εἰς ἀπάντησιν αὐτοῖς καὶ κύριος μεθ’ ὑμῶν2Chr 20:17
It is not for you to fight: understand these things, and see the deliverance of the Lord with you, Juda and Jerusalem: fear not, neither be afraid to go forth to-morrow to meet them; and the Lord shall be with you.

You will not need to fight this battle. Set yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Go out against them tomorrow, for Yahweh is with you.’”
182Chr 20:1818וַיִּקֹּ֧ד יְהוֹשָׁפָ֛ט אַפַּ֖יִם אָ֑רְצָה וְכָל־יְהוּדָ֞ה וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם נָֽפְלוּ֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה לְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֹ֖ת לַיהוָֽה׃2Chr 20:18
¶Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before Yahweh, worshipping Yahweh.
2Chr 20:182Chr 20:18καὶ κύψας Ιωσαφατ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ πᾶς Ιουδα καὶ οἱ κατοικοῦντες Ιερουσαλημ ἔπεσαν ἔναντι κυρίου προσκυνῆσαι κυρίῳ2Chr 20:18
And Josaphat bowed with his face to the ground with all Juda and the dwellers in Jerusalem, and they fell before the Lord to worship the Lord.

¶Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before Yahweh, worshipping Yahweh.

And when they began the praise and thanksgiving, the Lord caused the children of Ammon to fight against Moab, and the inhabitants of mount Seir that came out against Juda; and they were routed.

And Juda came to the watch-tower of the wilderness, and looked, and saw the multitude, and, behold, they were all fallen dead upon the earth, not one escaped.

When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches and dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in taking the spoil, it was so much.

And Josaphat and his people went out to spoil them, and they found much cattle, and furniture, and spoils, and precious things: and they spoiled them, and they were three days gathering the spoil, for it was abundant.

And it came to pass on the fourth day they were gathered to the Valley of Blessing; for there they blessed the Lord: therefore they called the name of the place the Valley of Blessing, until this day.

Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for Yahweh had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

And all the men of Juda returned to Jerusalem, and Josaphat led them with great joy; for the Lord gave them joy over their enemies.

They came to Jerusalem with stringed instruments and harps and trumpets to the house of Yahweh.

And they entered into Jerusalem with lutes and harps and trumpets, going into the house of the lord.

The fear of God was on all the kingdoms of the countries, when they heard that Yahweh fought against the enemies of Israel.

And there was a terror of the Lord upon all the kingdoms of the land, when they heard that the Lord fought against the enemies of Israel.

So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet; for his God gave him rest all around.

And he walked in the ways of his father Asa, and turned not aside from doing that which was right in the sight of the Lord.

However the high places were not taken away; neither as yet had the people set their hearts to the God of their fathers.

372Chr 20:3737וַיִּתְנַבֵּ֞א אֱלִיעֶ֤זֶר בֶּן־דֹּדָוָ֙הוּ֙ מִמָּ֣רֵשָׁ֔ה עַל־יְהוֹשָׁפָ֖ט לֵאמֹ֑ר כְּהִֽתְחַבֶּרְךָ֣ עִם־אֲחַזְיָ֗הוּ פָּרַ֤ץ יְהוָה֙ אֶֽת־מַעֲשֶׂ֔יךָ וַיִּשָּׁבְר֣וּ אֳנִיּ֔וֹת וְלֹ֥א עָצְר֖וּ לָלֶ֥כֶת אֶל־תַּרְשִֽׁישׁ׃2Chr 20:37
Then Eliezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have joined yourself with Ahaziah, Yahweh has destroyed your works.” The ships were broken, so that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
