a Gk. ἑβδομηκοντάκις ἑπτά. This is an allusion to Gn. 4:24, which reads seventy-seven times in the Hebrew, but ἑβδομηκοντάκις ἑπτά in the LXX, which is lit. seventy-times seven (see μυριάκις μύριοι, 10,000 x 10,000, Smyth 347 N., and δίς πέντε, twice five, Smyth 354 d. N.). Seventy-seven times, which is arguably the intended meaning in the LXX, would properly be either ἑβδομηκοντάκις ἑπτάκις (see εἰκοσάκις ἅπαξ, twenty-one times, Smyth 347) or ἑπτακαιεβδομηκοντάκις.
Lk 17:4If he sins against you seven times in the day, and seven times returns, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.”
