You see to it See to it yourself.”[c]
———
a Gk. ἀθῷος, undeserving of penalty. Not necessarily not guilty, but clear of responsibility and absolved of the consequences. (Also in 27:4.)
b In the CT, Pilate says simply: I am innocent of this blood [or, of the blood of this one?]. In the MT, Pilate adds of this δίκαιος one (distinct from ἀθῷος, innocent, his description of himself), parroting his wife's words in 27:19. Perhaps, Pilate is—in his own way—heeding his wife's warning here rather than ignoring it?
c Lit. You will see. Same expression used by the chief priests and elders to Judas in 27:4.
Lk 23:24Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done.
