He will certainly (γε) rise and give out of duty...if not also (καὶ) because he is a friend....
shamelessness,though its intent in this passage is not clear nor is it clear whose shamelessness it is. If taken to mean
lacking shame, it presumably suggests audacity on the part of the friend knocking; but here it is being posited instead to mean
lacking cause for shameon the part of the friend inside the house who will not dishonor himself by ignoring his friend in need.
give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.
give good things to those who ask him.
the crowds were outside themselves (ecstatic).In the parallel account in Mk 3:21—which lacks this specific exorcism—ἐξίστημι is used to describe not the crowd, but Jesus as being
deranged/out of his mind.In Lk 11:14, this verb, referring to the crowd again, is changed to θαυμάζω,
