theyactually appears to be a forward referent to the scribes in 3:22.
to amaze (or be amazed),but here being equated with
demon-possessedin 3:22. Variously translated
out of his mind(NAB, NET, NIV, NJB, NRSV, REB),
beside himself(KJV),
insane(WEB),
lost his senses(NAS), and
out of his mind (beside Himself, deranged)(AMP). (Note, however, the variant usage of ἐξίστημι in the parallel account in Mt 12:23.)
For not even his own brothers believed in him(NET). But here (in Mk 3:21) they are probably only racing to protect him from those calling him mad, not necessarily believing it themselves.
And the man Moses was very meek [πραῢς] beyond all the men that were upon the earth(Brenton); and Jesus, Mt. 11:29:
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle [πραΰς] and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls(ESV).
οἱ δὲ πραεῖς κληρονομήσουσιν γῆν...[But the meek shall inherit the earth... (Brenton)].
