And the remnant of Israel shall fear the name of the Lord, and shall do no iniquity, neither shall they speak vanity; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth [καὶ οὐ μὴ εὑρεθῇ ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτῶν γλῶσσα δολία]: for they shall feed, and lie down, and there shall be none to terrify them(Brenton).
21:8 Then the guard cries out: /(NET).On the watchtower, O sovereign master, / I stand all day long; / at my post / I am stationed every night. / 21:9 Look what’s coming! / A charioteer, / a team of horses./ When questioned, he replies, /Babylon has fallen, fallen! / All the idols of her gods lie shattered on the ground!
Babylonia had been a gold cup in the Lord’s hand. / She had made the whole world drunk. / The nations had drunk from the wine of her wrath. / So they have all gone mad(NET).
Wake up! Wake up! / Get up, O Jerusalem! / You drank from the cup the Lord passed to you, / which was full of his anger! / You drained dry / the goblet full of intoxicating wine(NET) and Jer. 25:15-16:
25:15 So the Lord, the God of Israel, spoke to me in a vision.(NET).Take this cup from my hand. It is filled with the wine of my wrath. Take it and make the nations to whom I send you drink it. 25:16 When they have drunk it, they will stagger to and fro and act insane. For I will send wars sweeping through them
For there is a cup in the hand of the Lord, full of unmingled wine [οἴνου ἀκράτου πλῆρες κεράσματος]; and he has turned it from side to side, but its dregs have not been wholly poured out; all the sinners of the earth shall drink them(Brenton).
He shall rain upon sinners snares, fire, and brimstone [ἐπιβρέξει ἐπὶ ἁμαρτωλοὺς παγίδας πῦρ καὶ θεῖον], and a stormy blast shall be the portion of their cup(Brenton) and Gn. 19:24:
Then the Lord rained down sulfur and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah. It was sent down from the sky by the Lord(NET).
34:9 Edom’s streams will be turned into pitch / and her soil into brimstone; / her land will become burning pitch. / 34:10 Night and day it will burn; / its smoke will ascend continually. / Generation after generation it will be a wasteland / and no one will ever pass through it again(NET).
Rush forth with the sickle, for the harvest is ripe! / Come, stomp the grapes, for the winepress is full! / The vats overflow. / Indeed, their evil is great!(NET).
63:1 Who is this who comes from Edom, / dressed in bright red, coming from Bozrah? / Who is this one wearing royal attire, / who marches confidently because of his great strength? / “It is I, the one who announces vindication, / and who is able to deliver!” / 63:2 Why are your clothes red? / Why do you look like someone who has stomped on grapes in a vat? / 63:3 “I have stomped grapes in the winepress all by myself; / no one from the nations joined me. / I stomped on them in my anger; / I trampled them down in my rage. / Their juice splashed on my garments, / and stained all my clothes(NET).
