^a Gr. ἐξίστημι. Lit. the crowds were outside themselves (ecstatic). In the parallel account in Mk 3:21—which lacks this specific exorcism—ἐξίστημι is used to describe not the crowd, but Jesus as being deranged/out of his mind.
