a Gk. λύω, to loosen or unbind. Cf. καταλύω, to tear down, in Mt.24:2, 26:61; Mk. 13:2, 14:58; Lk. 21:6.
b Λυσατε is a 2nd person PLURAL Imperative!! Jesus is essentially commanding that the Pharisees will be tearing down this ναον (temple) and that HE will be the one who is going to rebuild it. It is a fascinating prophesy once you realize this is a COMMAND to the pharisees to destroy His BODY (Jn2:21) and the first person claim that He will rebuild it in 3 days. It is also fascinating thatthe Pharisees do not actually respond to His use of tense that predicts that THEY are the ones who will tear it down. NOTE also that all the false witnesses against Jesus claim that they heard Jesus use the first person verb voice "I will tear down the temple..." or "I am capable of tearing down the temple..." That is NOT what Jesus said... Jesus used the 2nd person plural imperatve: YOU TEAR down the temple".... this HUGE difference of 2ndperson plural imperative is not visible in the English.
