μοιχοὶ καὶ μοιχαλίδες, adulterers and adulteresses. NA/UBS reads only
μοιχαλίδες, adulteresses. That is, disloyal or two-timing (to God).
δοκεῖτε ὅτι κενῶς,lit.

Or do you think that the Scripture says emptily (in vain)....
The spirit which took up residence in us.NA/UBS reads κατῴκισεν (κατοικίζω):
The spirit which he domiciled in us.

No OT verse is worded exactly this way. This is either a statement about the general teaching of scripture or a quotation from an ancient translation of the Hebrew text that no longer exists today.
Μείζονα δὲ δίδωσιν χάριν, lit.,
but greater he/she/it gives grace.Is μείζονα an adj. modifying
grace, or an improper adv. (neu. acc.) modifying
gives? Usually this verse is translated:
but he gives greater grace (or more grace).But what then is
greater grace?
Κύριος ὑπερηφάνοις ἀντιτάσσεται, ταπεινοῖς δὲ δίδωσι χάριν.(See also 1 Peter 5:5.)
two-souled(or
two-psyched), suggesting (see 4:4-5) dual and competing loyalties or self-interests.
Purity of heart,therefore, is singleness of allegiance.

Be careful not to say,(NET). If indeed James is addressed to those who are in despair over losing everything (see notes, 1:10), this would seem to be an admonishment to trust God to restore them, and καυχᾶσθε ἐν ταῖς ἀλαζονείαις ὑμῶν seems to take on an opposite sense—not of gloating in positive fictions about oneself, but of wallowing in negative fictions.My own ability and skill have gotten me this wealth.You must remember the Lord your God, for he is the one who gives ability to get wealth....
