RP: Γυναικὶ δὲ διδάσκειν ⬪ NA/UBS: Διδάσκειν δὲ γυναικὶ
1Tm 2:12
But I don’t permit am not giving a woman permission[a] to teach, nor to exercise authority harangue[b] over a man, but to be in quietness restraining her tongue.[c]
———
a This is not an imperative (do not let a woman teach) as is 2:11 (let a woman learn), and so it is probably not an absolute prohibition against teaching. Rather, he may just be concerned with how he thinks women would teach, and that they first learn the rules of teaching, of how to teach and how not to teach, in the manner of men.
b Gk. αὐθεντέω, to domineer or boss around.
c Gk. εἶναι ἐν ἡσυχίᾳ, to be in quiet.
d αύθεντέω<-- this is the ONLY instance of this word in the entire corpus of the LXX/NT Scripture, thus it is na "hapax legomenon"... it does not mean it should be dismissed, however, because the rest of the infinitves in this verse indicate quite clearly that a woman is NOT supposed to teach a man but sit quietly and there are numerous examples of the male headship over women.
