1Thes 1:10
and to wait for his Son from heaven,[a] whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath[b] to come.
———
a Paul preached the imminent return of Jesus [citation needed]; so not only where his followers concerned with pleasing God (4:1), but also were waiting for this future event. This raises a question, which Paul addresses in 4:13-18, regarding those who do not live to see this event, but for whom this is a central part of what they are living their lives in expectation of. (See also the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints in 3:13.)
b See note 5:9.
