a Mt. seems to indicate that Joseph and Mary moved to Nazareth only after their return from Egypt, whereas Lk. states they came from there (see Lk. 1:26, 2:4) However, Luke does not mention Egypt, and Matthew does not describe how they came to be in Bethlehem, but because Luke does mention Joseph and Mary were traveling when Jesus was born in Bethlehem, we know that this mess with Herod just delayed the little family from returning home. There was a great deal of travel in the first few weeks of this child's life. Because the subject of verse 23 is NOT Joseph (because the "he" who came to dwell is the same "He" who shall be called a Nazarene), we see Jesus as the one who came to dwell among the 3 arriving in Nazareth. So, though Mary and Jospeh had already been dwelling there prior to Jesus birth, the verse is appropriately making the point that this child finally comes dwell in Nazareth. ...because, from the time of his birth until then, Jesus had not yet come to dwell (home) anywhere...

a Mt. seems to indicate that Joseph and Mary moved to Nazareth only after their return from Egypt, whereas Lk. states they came from there (see Lk. 1:26, 2:4) However, Luke does not mention Egypt, and Matthew does not describe how they came to be in Bethlehem, but because Luke does mention Joseph and Mary were traveling when Jesus was born in Bethlehem, we know that this mess with Herod just delayed the little family from returning so there was a great deal of travel in the first few weeks of this child's life and since the subject of verse 23 is NOT Joseph (because the "he" who came to dwell is the same "He" who shall be called a Nazarene, we know it is Jesus being distinguished among those arriving in Nazareth, because Mary and Jospeh had already been dwelling there prior to leaving for the decree of Augustus' taxation, it is Jesus who is appropriately referred to as coming to dwell in Nazareth. ... from the time of his birth until then, Jesus had not yet come to dwell (home) anywhere...since Mary and Joseph were travelling and fleeing since the day Jesus was born.
