Ps 88:1
A song of a Psalm for the sons of Core for the end, upon Maeleth for responsive strains, of instruction for Aeman the Israelite. O Lord God of my salvation, I have cried by day and in the night before thee.

Ps 88:1Ps 88:1שִׁ֥יר מִזְמ֗וֹר לִבְנֵ֫י קֹ֥רַח לַמְנַצֵּ֣חַ עַל־מָחֲלַ֣ת לְעַנּ֑וֹת מַ֝שְׂכִּ֗יל לְהֵימָ֥ן הָאֶזְרָחִֽי׃Ps 88:0

2Ps 88:12κύριε ὁ θεὸς τῆς σωτηρίας μου ἡμέρας ἐκέκραξα καὶ ἐν νυκτὶ ἐναντίον σου2
Ps 88:1
Yahweh, the God of my salvation,
I have cried day and night before you.
Ps 88:2Ps 88:2יְ֭הוָה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יְשׁוּעָתִ֑י יוֹם־צָעַ֖קְתִּי בַלַּ֣יְלָה נֶגְדֶּֽךָ׃Ps 88:1
Yahweh, the God of my salvation,
I have cried day and night before you.
3Ps 88:23εἰσελθάτω ἐνώπιόν σου ἡ προσευχή μου κλῖνον τὸ οὖς σου εἰς τὴν δέησίν μου κύριεPs 88:2
Let my prayer come in before thee; incline thine ear to my supplication, O Lord.
Ps 88:2
Let my prayer enter into your presence.
Turn your ear to my cry.
Ps 88:3Ps 88:3תָּב֣וֹא לְ֭פָנֶיךָ תְּפִלָּתִ֑י הַטֵּֽה־אָ֝זְנְךָ֗ לְרִנָּתִֽי׃Ps 88:2
Let my prayer enter into your presence.
Turn your ear to my cry.
4Ps 88:34ὅτι ἐπλήσθη κακῶν ἡ ψυχή μου καὶ ἡ ζωή μου τῷ ᾅδῃ ἤγγισενPs 88:3
For my soul is filled with troubles, and my life has drawn nigh to Hades.

For my soul is full of troubles.
My life draws near to Sheol.
Ps 88:4Ps 88:4כִּֽי־שָֽׂבְעָ֣ה בְרָע֣וֹת נַפְשִׁ֑י וְחַיַּ֗י לִשְׁא֥וֹל הִגִּֽיעוּ׃Ps 88:3
For my soul is full of troubles.
My life draws near to Sheol.
5Ps 88:45προσελογίσθην μετὰ τῶν καταβαινόντων εἰς λάκκον ἐγενήθην ὡς ἄνθρωπος ἀβοήθητος ἐν νεκροῖς ἐλεύθεροςPs 88:4
I have been reckoned with them that go down to the pit; I became as a man without help;
Ps 88:4
I am counted among those who go down into the pit.
I am like a man who has no help,
Ps 88:5Ps 88:5נֶ֭חְשַׁבְתִּי עִם־י֣וֹרְדֵי ב֑וֹר הָ֝יִ֗יתִי כְּגֶ֣בֶר אֵֽין־אֱיָֽל׃Ps 88:4
I am counted among those who go down into the pit.
I am like a man who has no help,
6Ps 88:56ὡσεὶ τραυματίαι ἐρριμμένοι καθεύδοντες ἐν τάφῳ ὧν οὐκ ἐμνήσθης ἔτι καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐκ τῆς χειρός σου ἀπώσθησανPs 88:5
free among the dead, as the slain ones cast out, who sleep in the tomb; whom thou rememberest no more; and they are rejected from thy hand.
Ps 88:5
set apart among the dead,
like the slain who lie in the grave,
whom you remember no more.
They are cut off from your hand.
Ps 88:6Ps 88:6בַּמֵּתִ֗ים חָ֫פְשִׁ֥י כְּמ֤וֹ חֲלָלִ֨ים ׀ שֹׁ֥כְבֵי קֶ֗בֶר אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹ֣א זְכַרְתָּ֣ם ע֑וֹד וְ֝הֵ֗מָּה מִיָּדְךָ֥ נִגְזָֽרוּ׃Ps 88:5
set apart among the dead,
like the slain who lie in the grave,
whom you remember no more.
They are cut off from your hand.
7Ps 88:67ἔθεντό με ἐν λάκκῳ κατωτάτῳ ἐν σκοτεινοῖς καὶ ἐν σκιᾷ θανάτουPs 88:6
They laid me in the lowest pit, in dark places, and in the shadow of death.
Ps 88:6
You have laid me in the lowest pit,
in the darkest depths.
Ps 88:7Ps 88:7שַׁ֭תַּנִי בְּב֣וֹר תַּחְתִּיּ֑וֹת בְּ֝מַחֲשַׁכִּ֗ים בִּמְצֹלֽוֹת׃Ps 88:6
You have laid me in the lowest pit,
in the darkest depths.
8Ps 88:78ἐπ’ ἐμὲ ἐπεστηρίχθη ὁ θυμός σου καὶ πάντας τοὺς μετεωρισμούς σου ἐπ’ ἐμὲ ἐπήγαγες διάψαλμαPs 88:7
Thy wrath has pressed heavily upon me, and thou hast brought upon me all thy billows. Pause.
Ps 88:7
Your wrath lies heavily on me.
You have afflicted me with all your waves.
Selah.
Ps 88:8Ps 88:8עָ֭לַי סָמְכָ֣ה חֲמָתֶ֑ךָ וְכָל־מִ֝שְׁבָּרֶ֗יךָ עִנִּ֥יתָ סֶּֽלָה׃Ps 88:7
Your wrath lies heavily on me.
You have afflicted me with all your waves.
Selah.
9Ps 88:89ἐμάκρυνας τοὺς γνωστούς μου ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ ἔθεντό με βδέλυγμα ἑαυτοῖς παρεδόθην καὶ οὐκ ἐξεπορευόμηνPs 88:8
Thou hast removed my acquaintance far from me; they have made me an abomination to themselves; I have been delivered up, and have not gone forth.
Ps 88:8
You have taken my friends from me.
You have made me an abomination to them.
I am confined, and I can’t escape.
Ps 88:9Ps 88:9הִרְחַ֥קְתָּ מְיֻדָּעַ֗י מִ֫מֶּ֥נִּי שַׁתַּ֣נִי תוֹעֵב֣וֹת לָ֑מוֹ כָּ֝לֻ֗א וְלֹ֣א אֵצֵֽא׃Ps 88:8
You have taken my friends from me.
You have made me an abomination to them.
I am confined, and I can’t escape.
10Ps 88:910οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου ἠσθένησαν ἀπὸ πτωχείας ἐκέκραξα πρὸς σέ κύριε ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν διεπέτασα πρὸς σὲ τὰς χεῖράς μουPs 88:9
Mine eyes are dimmed from poverty; but I cried to thee, O Lord, all the day; I spread forth my hands to thee.
Ps 88:9
My eyes are dim from grief.
I have called on you daily, Yahweh.
I have spread out my hands to you.
Ps 88:10Ps 88:10עֵינִ֥י דָאֲבָ֗ה מִנִּ֫י עֹ֥נִי קְרָאתִ֣יךָ יְהוָ֣ה בְּכָל־י֑וֹם שִׁטַּ֖חְתִּי אֵלֶ֣יךָ כַפָּֽי׃Ps 88:9
My eyes are dim from grief.
I have called on you daily, Yahweh.
I have spread out my hands to you.
11Ps 88:1011μὴ τοῖς νεκροῖς ποιήσεις θαυμάσια ἢ ἰατροὶ ἀναστήσουσιν καὶ ἐξομολογήσονταί σοιPs 88:10
Wilt thou work wonders for the dead? or shall physicians raise them up, that they shall praise thee?
Ps 88:10
Do you show wonders to the dead?
Do the dead rise up and praise you?
Selah.
Ps 88:11Ps 88:11הֲלַמֵּתִ֥ים תַּעֲשֶׂה־פֶּ֑לֶא אִם־רְ֝פָאִ֗ים יָק֤וּמוּ ׀ יוֹד֬וּךָ סֶּֽלָה׃Ps 88:10
Do you show wonders to the dead?
Do the dead rise up and praise you?
Selah.
12Ps 88:1112μὴ διηγήσεταί τις ἐν τάφῳ τὸ ἔλεός σου καὶ τὴν ἀλήθειάν σου ἐν τῇ ἀπωλείᾳPs 88:11
Shall any one declare thy mercy in the tomb? and thy truth in destruction?
Ps 88:11
Is your loving kindness declared in the grave?
Or your faithfulness in Destruction?
Ps 88:12Ps 88:12הַיְסֻפַּ֣ר בַּקֶּ֣בֶר חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ אֱ֝מֽוּנָתְךָ֗ בָּאֲבַדּֽוֹן׃Ps 88:11
Is your loving kindness declared in the grave?
Or your faithfulness in Destruction?
13Ps 88:1213μὴ γνωσθήσεται ἐν τῷ σκότει τὰ θαυμάσιά σου καὶ ἡ δικαιοσύνη σου ἐν γῇ ἐπιλελησμένῃPs 88:12
Shall thy wonders be known in darkness? and thy righteousness in a forgotten land?
Ps 88:12
Are your wonders made known in the dark?
Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
Ps 88:13Ps 88:13הֲיִוָּדַ֣ע בַּחֹ֣שֶׁךְ פִּלְאֶ֑ךָ וְ֝צִדְקָתְךָ֗ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ נְשִׁיָּֽה׃Ps 88:12
Are your wonders made known in the dark?
Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
14Ps 88:1314κἀγὼ πρὸς σέ κύριε ἐκέκραξα καὶ τὸ πρωὶ ἡ προσευχή μου προφθάσει σεPs 88:13
But I cried to thee, O Lord; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.
Ps 88:13
But to you, Yahweh, I have cried.
In the morning, my prayer comes before you.
Ps 88:14Ps 88:14וַאֲנִ֤י ׀ אֵלֶ֣יךָ יְהוָ֣ה שִׁוַּ֑עְתִּי וּ֝בַבֹּ֗קֶר תְּֽפִלָּתִ֥י תְקַדְּמֶֽךָּ׃Ps 88:13
But to you, Yahweh, I have cried.
In the morning, my prayer comes before you.
15Ps 88:1415ἵνα τί κύριε ἀπωθεῖς τὴν ψυχήν μου ἀποστρέφεις τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἀπ’ ἐμοῦPs 88:14
Wherefore, O Lord, dost thou reject my prayer, and turn thy face away from me?
Ps 88:14
Yahweh, why do you reject my soul?
Why do you hide your face from me?
Ps 88:15Ps 88:15לָמָ֣ה יְ֭הוָה תִּזְנַ֣ח נַפְשִׁ֑י תַּסְתִּ֖יר פָּנֶ֣יךָ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃Ps 88:14
Yahweh, why do you reject my soul?
Why do you hide your face from me?
16Ps 88:1516πτωχός εἰμι ἐγὼ καὶ ἐν κόποις ἐκ νεότητός μου ὑψωθεὶς δὲ ἐταπεινώθην καὶ ἐξηπορήθηνPs 88:15
I am poor and in troubles from my youth; and having been exalted, I was brought low and into despair.
Ps 88:15
I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up.
While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted.
Ps 88:16Ps 88:16עָ֘נִ֤י אֲנִ֣י וְגֹוֵ֣עַ מִנֹּ֑עַר נָשָׂ֖אתִי אֵמֶ֣יךָ אָפֽוּנָה׃Ps 88:15
I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up.
While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted.
17Ps 88:1617ἐπ’ ἐμὲ διῆλθον αἱ ὀργαί σου καὶ οἱ φοβερισμοί σου ἐξετάραξάν μεPs 88:16
Thy wrath has passed over me; and thy terrors have greatly disquieted me.
Ps 88:16
Your fierce wrath has gone over me.
Your terrors have cut me off.
Ps 88:17Ps 88:17עָ֭לַי עָבְר֣וּ חֲרוֹנֶ֑יךָ בִּ֝עוּתֶ֗יךָ צִמְּתוּתֻֽנִי׃Ps 88:16
Your fierce wrath has gone over me.
Your terrors have cut me off.
18Ps 88:1718ἐκύκλωσάν με ὡς ὕδωρ ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν περιέσχον με ἅμαPs 88:17
They compassed me like water; all the day they beset me together.
Ps 88:17
They came around me like water all day long.
They completely engulfed me.
Ps 88:18Ps 88:18סַבּ֣וּנִי כַ֭מַּיִם כָּל־הַיּ֑וֹם הִקִּ֖יפוּ עָלַ֣י יָֽחַד׃Ps 88:17

19Ps 88:1819ἐμάκρυνας ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ φίλον καὶ πλησίον καὶ τοὺς γνωστούς μου ἀπὸ ταλαιπωρίαςPs 88:18
Thou hast put far from me every friend, and mine acquaintances because of my wretchedness.
Ps 88:18
You have put lover and friend far from me,
and my friends into darkness.
Ps 88:19Ps 88:19הִרְחַ֣קְתָּ מִ֭מֶּנִּי אֹהֵ֣ב וָרֵ֑עַ מְֽיֻדָּעַ֥י מַחְשָֽׁךְ׃Ps 88:18
You have put lover and friend far from me,
and my friends into darkness.
