Ps 79:1
A Psalm for Asaph. O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; they have polluted thy holy temple; they have made Jerusalem a storehouse of fruits.

God, the nations have come into your inheritance.
They have defiled your holy temple.
They have laid Jerusalem in heaps.
Ps 79:1Ps 79:1מִזְמ֗וֹר לְאָ֫סָ֥ף אֱ‍ֽלֹהִ֡ים בָּ֤אוּ גוֹיִ֨ם ׀ בְּֽנַחֲלָתֶ֗ךָ טִ֭מְּאוּ אֶת־הֵיכַ֣ל קָדְשֶׁ֑ךָ שָׂ֖מוּ אֶת־יְרוּשָׁלִַ֣ם לְעִיִּֽים׃Ps 79:0-1

God, the nations have come into your inheritance.
They have defiled your holy temple.
They have laid Jerusalem in heaps.
2Ps 79:22ἔθεντο τὰ θνησιμαῖα τῶν δούλων σου βρώματα τοῖς πετεινοῖς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ τὰς σάρκας τῶν ὁσίων σου τοῖς θηρίοις τῆς γῆςPs 79:2
They have given the dead bodies of thy servants to be food for the birds of the sky, the flesh of thy holy ones for the wild beasts of the earth.

They have given the dead bodies of your servants to be food for the birds of the sky,
the flesh of your saints to the animals of the earth.
Ps 79:2Ps 79:2נָֽתְנ֡וּ אֶת־נִבְלַ֬ת עֲבָדֶ֗יךָ מַ֭אֲכָל לְע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם בְּשַׂ֥ר חֲ֝סִידֶ֗יךָ לְחַיְתוֹ־אָֽרֶץ׃Ps 79:2
They have given the dead bodies of your servants to be food for the birds of the sky,
the flesh of your saints to the animals of the earth.
3Ps 79:33ἐξέχεαν τὸ αἷμα αὐτῶν ὡς ὕδωρ κύκλῳ Ιερουσαλημ καὶ οὐκ ἦν ὁ θάπτωνPs 79:3
They have shed their blood as water, round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.

Their blood they have shed like water around Jerusalem.
There was no one to bury them.
4Ps 79:44ἐγενήθημεν ὄνειδος τοῖς γείτοσιν ἡμῶν μυκτηρισμὸς καὶ χλευασμὸς τοῖς κύκλῳ ἡμῶνPs 79:4
We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.

a scoffing and derision to those who are around us.
Ps 79:4Ps 79:4הָיִ֣ינוּ חֶ֭רְפָּה לִשְׁכֵנֵ֑ינוּ לַ֥עַג וָ֝קֶ֗לֶס לִסְבִיבוֹתֵֽינוּ׃Ps 79:4
We have become a reproach to our neighbors,
a scoffing and derision to those who are around us.
5Ps 79:55ἕως πότε κύριε ὀργισθήσῃ εἰς τέλος ἐκκαυθήσεται ὡς πῦρ ὁ ζῆλός σουPs 79:5
How long, O Lord? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?

How long, Yahweh?
Will you be angry forever?
Will your jealousy burn like fire?
Ps 79:5Ps 79:5עַד־מָ֣ה יְ֭הוָה תֶּאֱנַ֣ף לָנֶ֑צַח תִּבְעַ֥ר כְּמוֹ־אֵ֝֗שׁ קִנְאָתֶֽךָ׃Ps 79:5
How long, Yahweh?
Will you be angry forever?
Will your jealousy burn like fire?
6Ps 79:66ἔκχεον τὴν ὀργήν σου ἐπὶ ἔθνη τὰ μὴ γινώσκοντά σε καὶ ἐπὶ βασιλείας αἳ τὸ ὄνομά σου οὐκ ἐπεκαλέσαντοPs 79:6
Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms which have not called upon thy name.

Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you;
on the kingdoms that don’t call on your name;
Ps 79:6Ps 79:6שְׁפֹ֤ךְ חֲמָתְךָ֨ אֶֽל־הַגּוֹיִם֮ אֲשֶׁ֪ר לֹא־יְדָ֫ע֥וּךָ וְעַ֥ל מַמְלָכ֑וֹת אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּ֝שִׁמְךָ֗ לֹ֣א קָרָֽאוּ׃Ps 79:6
Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you;
on the kingdoms that don’t call on your name;
7Ps 79:77ὅτι κατέφαγον τὸν Ιακωβ καὶ τὸν τόπον αὐτοῦ ἠρήμωσανPs 79:7
For they have devoured Jacob, and laid his place waste.
Ps 79:7
For they have devoured Jacob,
and destroyed his homeland.
Ps 79:7Ps 79:7כִּ֭י אָכַ֣ל אֶֽת־יַעֲקֹ֑ב וְֽאֶת־נָוֵ֥הוּ הֵשַֽׁמּוּ׃Ps 79:7
For they have devoured Jacob,
and destroyed his homeland.
8Ps 79:88μὴ μνησθῇς ἡμῶν ἀνομιῶν ἀρχαίων ταχὺ προκαταλαβέτωσαν ἡμᾶς οἱ οἰκτιρμοί σου ὅτι ἐπτωχεύσαμεν σφόδραPs 79:8
Remember not our old transgressions; let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us; for we are greatly impoverished.
Ps 79:8
Don’t hold the iniquities of our forefathers against us.
Let your tender mercies speedily meet us,
for we are in desperate need.

9Ps 79:99βοήθησον ἡμῖν ὁ θεὸς ὁ σωτὴρ ἡμῶν ἕνεκα τῆς δόξης τοῦ ὀνόματός σου κύριε ῥῦσαι ἡμᾶς καὶ ἱλάσθητι ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις ἡμῶν ἕνεκα τοῦ ὀνόματός σουPs 79:9
Help us, O God our Saviour; for the glory of thy name, O Lord, deliver us; and be merciful to our sins, for thy name's sake.

Help us, God of our salvation, for the glory of your name.
Deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name’s sake.
Ps 79:9Ps 79:9עָזְרֵ֤נוּ ׀ אֱלֹ֘הֵ֤י יִשְׁעֵ֗נוּ עַל־דְּבַ֥ר כְּבֽוֹד־שְׁמֶ֑ךָ וְהַצִּילֵ֥נוּ וְכַפֵּ֥ר עַל־חַ֝טֹּאתֵ֗ינוּ לְמַ֣עַן שְׁמֶֽךָ׃Ps 79:9
Help us, God of our salvation, for the glory of your name.
Deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name’s sake.
10Ps 79:1010μήποτε εἴπωσιν τὰ ἔθνη ποῦ ἐστιν ὁ θεὸς αὐτῶν καὶ γνωσθήτω ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ἐνώπιον τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν ἡμῶν ἡ ἐκδίκησις τοῦ αἵματος τῶν δούλων σου τοῦ ἐκκεχυμένουPs 79:10
Lets haply they should say among the heathen, Where is their God? and let the avenging of thy servant's blood that has been shed be known among the heathen before our eyes.

Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”
Let it be known among the nations, before our eyes,
that vengeance for your servants’ blood is being poured out.
Ps 79:10Ps 79:10לָ֤מָּה ׀ יֹאמְר֣וּ הַגּוֹיִם֮ אַיֵּ֪ה אֱ‍ֽלֹהֵ֫יהֶ֥ם יִוָּדַ֣ע ‏{ בגיים בַּגּוֹיִ֣ם }‏ לְעֵינֵ֑ינוּ נִ֝קְמַ֗ת דַּֽם־עֲבָדֶ֥יךָ הַשָּׁפֽוּךְ׃

Ps 79:10
Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”
Let it be known among the nations, before our eyes,
that vengeance for your servants’ blood is being poured out.
11Ps 79:1111εἰσελθάτω ἐνώπιόν σου ὁ στεναγμὸς τῶν πεπεδημένων κατὰ τὴν μεγαλωσύνην τοῦ βραχίονός σου περιποίησαι τοὺς υἱοὺς τῶν τεθανατωμένωνPs 79:11
Let the groaning of the prisoners come in before thee; according to the greatness of thine arm preserve the sons of the slain ones.
Ps 79:11
Let the sighing of the prisoner come before you.
According to the greatness of your power, preserve those who are sentenced to death.
Ps 79:11Ps 79:11תָּ֤ב֣וֹא לְפָנֶיךָ֮ אֶנְקַ֪ת אָ֫סִ֥יר כְּגֹ֥דֶל זְרוֹעֲךָ֑ ה֝וֹתֵ֗ר בְּנֵ֣י תְמוּתָֽה׃Ps 79:11
Let the sighing of the prisoner come before you.
According to the greatness of your power, preserve those who are sentenced to death.
12Ps 79:1212ἀπόδος τοῖς γείτοσιν ἡμῶν ἑπταπλασίονα εἰς τὸν κόλπον αὐτῶν τὸν ὀνειδισμὸν αὐτῶν ὃν ὠνείδισάν σε κύριεPs 79:12
Repay to our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, with which they have reproached thee, O Lord.

Pay back to our neighbors seven times into their bosom
their reproach with which they have reproached you, Lord.
Ps 79:12Ps 79:12וְהָ֘שֵׁ֤ב לִשְׁכֵנֵ֣ינוּ שִׁ֭בְעָתַיִם אֶל־חֵיקָ֑ם חֶרְפָּ֘תָ֤ם אֲשֶׁ֖ר חֵרְפ֣וּךָ אֲדֹנָֽי׃Ps 79:12
Pay back to our neighbors seven times into their bosom
their reproach with which they have reproached you, Lord.
13Ps 79:1313ἡμεῖς δὲ λαός σου καὶ πρόβατα τῆς νομῆς σου ἀνθομολογησόμεθά σοι εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα εἰς γενεὰν καὶ γενεὰν ἐξαγγελοῦμεν τὴν αἴνεσίν σουPs 79:13
For we are thy people and the sheep of thy pasture; we will give thee thanks for ever; we will declare thy praise throughout all generations.
Ps 79:13
So we, your people and sheep of your pasture,
will give you thanks forever.
We will praise you forever, to all generations.

So we, your people and sheep of your pasture,
will give you thanks forever.
We will praise you forever, to all generations.
